Today’s Scrip-Bit 30 November 2007 Psalm 61:1-4‏

Psalm 61:1-4   Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever. I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah!
And all God’s people said, Wow! (smile). Just imagine nuh, one of the most powerful men that ever lived, placing such amazing trust in the Most High. Bruh David certainly knew where his help and strength came from, he knew where his bread was buttered. Without the Lord, he was nothing. He knew that when his enemies came against him, his only hope was in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. That’s why he could cry out to his God in prayer with such sincerity. He even shows the extent of his faith: wherever he is, even the ends of the earth, whenever his heart is overwhelmed, he’s going to cry out in prayer. Oh my dear Friends and family in Christ, that’s the attitude we need to have in these rough times. Cry out to our Heavenly Father wherever we are, whenever out hearts are heavy and anguished. That’s exactly what He wants us to do; come to Him in times of need, and, like Bruh David says, He will lead us to a rock that’s higher than us, a place of safety, where the troubles of the world won’t cause us worry and despair. He is a shelter and strong tower for us too, if we let Him. And where else is better to abide than in His tabernacle, or hide, but under the shelter of His all encompassing wings, experiencing  His tender care and loving kindness? Oh Friends, please, let’s Turn to Him; let’s Cry out to Him whenever the cares of this world threaten to get the better of us. Cause He, He only, is our Rock and Strong Tower!  Much LOVE!  ….always remember, when the cares of the world drag us down, the Most High will lift us up….if we ask Him to.

Today’s Scrip-Bit 29 November 2007 Deuteronomy 28:2

Deuteronomy 28:2    And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God.
Powerful, promising words given to the Israelites after the Lord brought them out of slavery in Egypt. He promised to bless them if they were obedient to Him. He even spelled it out: They’d be blessed in the city and in the field. Their children would be plentiful, so too would their animals, their crops would bear abundant harvests. When they came in or went out, they would be blessed. Their enemies would come in one way and flee seven ways before them. All that they touched would prosper in the land the Lord gave them. They would be His people, if they kept His commandments and walked in His ways. What an awesome promise from the one and only true God! And yuh know Friends, nothing has changed since way back then. That promise still holds true today, and will always be open to us. All we have to do is obey His commandments, rather His commandment: Just LOVE Him and His children! I don’t think it could be any simpler. Be obedient to me and I will prosper you. It’s not rocket science. He even said that the blessings might overtake them; it would be so plentiful. Sometimes though, it seems that we supposed believers have trouble believing. Else why would we claim to believe in Jesus Christ, His Father and the Holy Spirit, have so much faith in them, talk them up so much, then go and do the exact opposite of what they say eh? It must be some mental imbalance in our brain (smile) or that the call of the pretty, inanimate things of the world is more centred and powerful in us than The Word. Friends, we all claim that we want to be prosperous. Well here’s the prescription; Hearken unto the voice of your God! It’s the only way. It’s not always easy, but it’s guaranteed, it won’t be fleeting, but last a long long time. So let’s check ourselves nuh, and improve our obedience, so that he can look favourably on us and shower us with His many blessings. He’s just dying to do that. Much LOVE!…all it takes is the first step…

Today’s Scrip-Bit 28 November 2007 Jeremiah 31:8‏

Jeremiah 31:8    I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself thus: Thou hast chastised me, and I am chastised, as a bullock unaccustomed to the yoke: turn thou me, and I shall be turned.
Friends, that’s the attitude we need to have. When the Lord punishes us for being disobedient, we need to just suck it up and don’t complain, especially if we were well aware that our actions or whatever, were outside of God’s allowable limits. Instead, we should admit out wrong doing, and ask for forgiveness. Not only ask for it, but also receive it, because that’s a huge stumbling block in many believers lives. We ask for forgiveness and when God offers it, we refuse to accept it, either because it’s free, it seems too easy, or some such poor excuse. But Friends, that’s exactly how it is; free and with sincere repentance, fairly easy. And accepting it is very important, since it’s the only way we’ll be freed of the anxiety and worry in our souls. It’s like anything in life; you don’t receive it, until you accept it. A lot of us are miserable because we don’t know how to graciously accept stuff. It’s something we need to learn, not only in dealing with God, but in all walks of life. It’s like compliments. Too many people don’t know how, or feel uncomfortable receiving and accepting them. But it’s a natural part of life, oftimes very deserving, and we should learn to accept them gracefully, not in arrogance or embarrassment. Anyway, having accepted the Lord’s forgiveness, then my people, it’s time to ask Him to change us, to bring us more into line with His requirements. But we need to do this sincerely, with right and true intentions, because you know that regardless of what comes out of our mouths, the Most High looks at our hearts and judges us by its state. And as Jeremiah assures us in Today’s Bit, if we ask Him to help us change into a more acceptable person in His eyes, then He will do just that, because that’s His nature. He’s the Lord God Almighty! All powerful, ever faithful, steadfast and true, always anxious and concerned about His children and always willing to bless them and show them His mercy and ever-loving kindness. Much LOVE!…remember, there’s no limit to His forgiveness, once our hearts are right.

Today’s Scrip-Bit 27 November 2007 Philippians 4:7

Philippians 4:7    Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.
Oh Friends, that’s something we so badly need to learn in our current society, which  is based on more; always more: More work, more profit, more productivity, more sales, more partying, more speed, more worldly possessions and more of the whole host of new, but increasingly obsolete technological toys and gadgets. But there are two sides to every coin, and unfortunately, we also have the negative side of more: More job loss and unemployment, more working harder for less remuneration, more of the dumbing, service nature of jobs, with less benefits, more inflation, more substance abuse, more family strife and breakups, more delinquency, anger and violence amongst our youth, a lot of it based on poor role models, more greed, more financial instability, more fraud and scam artists…and the list goes on. Friends, there’s a frantic rat race for more of everything…everything except God. How sad eh. God seems to be the only thing that society is clamouring for less of. Surprising, but true…also stupid. Just goes to show that we never learn from our mistakes. Whenever the people forsake God, they suffer, that’s a known fact, but we still do it. Is it an inherent masochistic tendency? Who knows. But talking about ‘sufferation,’ we won’t even mention the many natural disasters happening all over the world, we’ll only talk about one man made debacle; the current housing crisis in the U.S that’s taking a terrible toll on the entire world. Common sense dictated that they not lend to sub standard applicants. However, the more concept; overwhelming greed and their perceived invincibility led them to do otherwise. Then to compound the situation, these same powers that be, began transferring jobs to cheap labour countries and cutting jobs at home, just the more profit motive again, badly cloaked in the current economic wonder drug…outsourcing. And when everything crash…deh holding deh head and bawl, bemoaning deh bad luck. But it wasn’t no bad luck nuh, just simple stupidity, outright greed and fraud. It doesn’t take a mad scientist to realize that if people finding it hard to pay exorbitant mortgages when they’re working, that they won’t be able to pay it if they’re unemployed. And it’s surprising how many wealthy, supposedly sensible institutions right around the world, got caught up in this nefarious, unsound scheme, a veritable house of cards. Just goes to show how far reaching are the slimy tentacles of greed. Friends, our Saviour, Jesus Christ, said long ago, that a house, for that matter anything not built on a solid foundation, must fall sooner or later. And the most solid foundation, the strongest rock in this universe is J.C. So let’s build our personal lives on Him nuh. As Paul says, let’s learn to be contented with what we have or where we are at any given time. Obviously we need to strive for higher goals, that’s part of our calling as believers, but let’s do it safely. Let’s ease up on the credit scene. Don’t try to keep up with anybody. Don’t be envious of anyone, because you don’t know how they got what they have. Let’s just buy what we can afford and trust our heavenly Father to give us the increase. If we’re obedient to His will, then it will happen, sometimes sooner and in more abundance than you expect. But always when you need it. I can tell you this from first hand experience. As always…Much LOVE!…and don’t try to keep with the Jones’…they’ll always be one step ahead of you (smile).

Today’s Scrip-Bit 26 November 2007 Philippians 4:13

Philippians 4:13.   I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me!
Now that’s for certain sure! O Friends, O Friends, is there a better way to start your day than proclaiming that essential fact; that mainstay of believers, that solid root that provides the unshakeable foundation of the Christian Faith? Certainly not! So let’s proclaim it again loudly nuh. ‘I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me!’ Beautiful Friends, Beautiful! Wow! Words like those speak volumes, and opens up our hearts, souls and minds. Makes us wholly receptive to the wonderful thoughts, ideas and emotions supplied by the Holy Spirit, that enable and strengthen us in our Christian walk. Hn, hn,hn! I had to chuckle, because it certainly seems to have gotten my adrenalin flowing, got the Sprit working. So it must be true eh! Yes People, J.C said that we’re nothing without Him. But with Him working in us, we can do wonders, perform miracles, like moving mountains. With just a little faith, as big as a mustard seed, and they seem to be pretty small, we can do anything. But Friends, the clincher here is that J.C, through the Holy Spirit, must be on the inside, must dwell within the inner depths of our soul. We cannot be as strong and productive as we need to be if He’s on the outside looking in. He needs to be One with us. We need to move in unison, in synch with Him; follow His lead. And we all know that once He’s leading us, we’ll never go wrong. That was Paul’s basic message to the people of Philippi: life may be rough, and Paul certainly knew about that, but with the One who died for our sins actively working in us, nothing’s impossible. That’s the same message I’m reiterating, sending out again today people. How do you think Bruh David slew Goliath, or Samson the thousand men? Not with a sling shot or a donkey’s jawbone. Those were only the physical tools. But it was the enabling power of the Mighty, Mighty Spirit of the Most High that brought them victory over seemingly stronger and more formidable foes. Deep, deep down, they believed…so they were victorious. Friends, the same holds true for us. Only believe, truly believe in the core of our beings…and we’ll eventually be victorious too. Much LOVE!…trust and obey, for there’s no better way, to be happy in Jesus, than to trust and obey.

Today’s Scrip-Bit 25 November 2007 Psalm 68:1-3‏

Psalm 68: 1-3.   Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered: let them also that hate him, flee before him. As smoke is driven away, so drive them away: as wax melteth before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God. But let the righteous be glad; let them rejoice before God: yea, let them exceedingly rejoice.
Be glad and exceedingly rejoice my righteous and believing Friends! More inspirational and encouraging words from Bruh David, that seemed somewhat familiar when I first read them. Later on, I realized that the idea is contained in a Peter Tosh song, though for the life of me I can’t remember the name. But I can clearly hear him saying ‘…as the wax melteth, so let them be melteth Jah Jah! Let them be scattered, battered, mattered…’ or sentiments to that effect. Yuh see, is not me alone who likes Bruh David’s lyrics (smile,) Anyway, it’s a fitting destruction for the enemy; those dark, dangerous, intimidating forces of evil, who try to undermine the power and good works of the Most High. Friends, we must always be on guard, extremely careful not to let them get a foothold in our lives, because, like a cancerous cell, they secretly invade our being, then immediately multiply like crazy, and in no time at all will be controlling our behaviour. Using us to do the devious, destructive work of the enemy and not the good, kind works of our Heavenly Father. Remember, it’s a war Friends, between the forces of good and evil. And the enemy plays real dirty; he has no scruples, will use anything or anyone to gain an advantage. So we must always be on a constant alert, a constant lookout for the searching, slimy tentacles of evil. However Friends, however, the good news is that we have the most amazing, most powerful powers riding shotgun for us, those being, The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit! What an awesome trio eh! So there is no need to fear, just have faith, stand strong and ask our outriders to scatter the enemy, drive them away like smoke before the wind, melt them like wax…then be grateful, give thanks and exceedingly rejoice. Much LOVE!…the powers of evil never rest, so be extra careful.

Today’s Scrip-Bit 24 November 2007 Psalm 67.‏

Psalm 67:  God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us. Selah. That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations. Let the people praise thee, O God, let all the people praise thee. O let the nations be glad and sing for joy: for thou shalt judge the people righteously, and govern the nations upon earth. Selah. Let the people praise thee, O god, let all the people praise thee. Then shall the earth yield her increase; and God, even our own God, shall bless us. God shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear him.
It’s one of those days when I just asked for guidance, opened the Good Book, saw Psalm 67 and decided to use it all. It’s a song of prayer and praise. Bruh David is in good form; strong voice. He’s asking the Most High to shower us with mercy and blessings, so that the whole earth would see and recognize His awesome power. But Friends, it’s a two way street: In return for those blessings, we should be glad, sing for joy and shower Him with praise, because He’s such a righteous judge and governor. And know too, that when we sing and praise Him, He blesses us, the earth multiplies her yield, we live in peace and harmony. It’s a never ending circle: We praise Him, He blesses us; He blesses us, we praise Him! The U.S recently celebrated their Thanksgiving. Hopefully an appropriate amount of thanks and praise was offered. Today, I’m saying a special ‘Thanks Lord!’ for achieving my three score years… hopefully at least another ten to go (smile). It’s been a long, arduous road, with many obstacles along the way, but overall, it’s certainly been adventurous and interesting. Could not have done it without His help though. He’s brought me through it all, safe and sound…well, disregarding the usual infirmities of aging. That’s why I’m saying another mighty big, ‘Thanks Lord!’ And as Bruh David shouts out in Today’s Bit, not once, but also twice: ‘Let the people praise thee, O God: let all the people praise thee!’  Friends, He’s been awfully good to us, so let’s give Him His rightful due nuh. Much LOVE! …and plenty, plenty thanks and praise!
