Today’s Scrip-Bit 26 July 2007 Deuteronomy 10: 17-19

Deuteronomy 10: 17-19.
For the Lord your God is God of gods, and the Lord of Lords; a great God, a mighty and terrible, which regardeth not persons; nor taketh reward. He doth execute the judgement of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment. Love ye therefore the stranger: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.

Although our God is so great and powerful, He does seem to have a soft spot for the disenfranchised, the underdog, in that He pays particular attention to those who are suffering; the fatherless, the widows, the strangers. Today’s Bit is just a gentle reminder to all of us that we have an obligation to help those more unfortunate than ourselves, and that we should not dismiss people out of hand just because they are strangers. I’ve learnt this lesson on a very personal level, because where ever I’ve been in my life, and I’ve been a stranger in many places in rough situations, somebody has always been kind and helpful to me. And I try to live that way, and preach it to my children. Hope they hear me. Hn! I just realized that almost everything the Bible teaches us is based on one philosophy, J.C’s 2nd commandment; Love your neighbour as yourself. If we only treated people the way we want them to treat us,Wow! this world would be such a beautiful place. And please remember to be careful when we’re dealing with strangers, for we might just be entertaining angels unawares. Somewhere in the Good Book it says so (smile). Plenty, plenty LOVE!
