Today’s Scrip-Bit 27 November 2007 Philippians 4:7

Philippians 4:7    Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

Oh Friends, that’s something we so badly need to learn in our current society, which  is based on more; always more: More work, more profit, more productivity, more sales, more partying, more speed, more worldly possessions and more of the whole host of new, but increasingly obsolete technological toys and gadgets. But there are two sides to every coin, and unfortunately, we also have the negative side of more: More job loss and unemployment, more working harder for less remuneration, more of the dumbing, service nature of jobs, with less benefits, more inflation, more substance abuse, more family strife and breakups, more delinquency, anger and violence amongst our youth, a lot of it based on poor role models, more greed, more financial instability, more fraud and scam artists…and the list goes on. Friends, there’s a frantic rat race for more of everything…everything except God. How sad eh. God seems to be the only thing that society is clamouring for less of. Surprising, but true…also stupid. Just goes to show that we never learn from our mistakes. Whenever the people forsake God, they suffer, that’s a known fact, but we still do it. Is it an inherent masochistic tendency? Who knows. But talking about ‘sufferation,’ we won’t even mention the many natural disasters happening all over the world, we’ll only talk about one man made debacle; the current housing crisis in the U.S that’s taking a terrible toll on the entire world. Common sense dictated that they not lend to sub standard applicants. However, the more concept; overwhelming greed and their perceived invincibility led them to do otherwise. Then to compound the situation, these same powers that be, began transferring jobs to cheap labour countries and cutting jobs at home, just the more profit motive again, badly cloaked in the current economic wonder drug…outsourcing. And when everything crash…deh holding deh head and bawl, bemoaning deh bad luck. But it wasn’t no bad luck nuh, just simple stupidity, outright greed and fraud. It doesn’t take a mad scientist to realize that if people finding it hard to pay exorbitant mortgages when they’re working, that they won’t be able to pay it if they’re unemployed. And it’s surprising how many wealthy, supposedly sensible institutions right around the world, got caught up in this nefarious, unsound scheme, a veritable house of cards. Just goes to show how far reaching are the slimy tentacles of greed. Friends, our Saviour, Jesus Christ, said long ago, that a house, for that matter anything not built on a solid foundation, must fall sooner or later. And the most solid foundation, the strongest rock in this universe is J.C. So let’s build our personal lives on Him nuh. As Paul says, let’s learn to be contented with what we have or where we are at any given time. Obviously we need to strive for higher goals, that’s part of our calling as believers, but let’s do it safely. Let’s ease up on the credit scene. Don’t try to keep up with anybody. Don’t be envious of anyone, because you don’t know how they got what they have. Let’s just buy what we can afford and trust our heavenly Father to give us the increase. If we’re obedient to His will, then it will happen, sometimes sooner and in more abundance than you expect. But always when you need it. I can tell you this from first hand experience. As always…Much LOVE!…and don’t try to keep with the Jones’…they’ll always be one step ahead of you (smile).
