Today’s Scrip-Bit 11 September 2007 Deuteronomy 15: 10‏

Deuteronomy 15: 10.    Thou shalt surely give him, and thine heart shall not be grieved when thou givest him: because that for this thing the Lord thy God shall bless thee in all thy works, and in all that thou puttest thine hand unto.

In the Israel of old debts were apparently forgiven after seven years, but  Moses is telling his people here that if the poor debtors cried out for help just before the end of the seven years, they must not use that as an excuse for refusing help. And furthermore, whatever help they gave should be done with a willing heart, not offered grudgingly, not just because it was the custom. He also gave them good reason for doing so; because it pleased the Lord, who would subsequently bless and prosper them in all their undertakings. The same thing applies to us today; whatever help we give should be with a willing heart, pleasing to the Lord. And Friends, there are a lot of needy folks in this prosperous world of ours. Let’s try and help as much as we can from a genuine sense of pleasure. The Lord will look kindly on us for it.  Much LOVE…Plenty Helping & Giving!

Today’s Scrip-Bit 10 September 2007 Isaiah 33:22‏

Isaiah 33:22:       For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our king: he will save us.

Our God is an all purpose, powerful Being: First He created us, from the dirt He spoke into existence. Then He gave us laws to live by; TheTen Commandments, broken down into two major components;  LOVE  Me, LOVE one another. As a logical consequence of that, He oversees our behaviour and administers whatever justice He deems necessary; a justice though that’s always filled with mercy and compassion, because that’s His nature. He’s also our earthly ruler and King, looking after our worldly affairs, guiding and directing our footsteps along the paths we choose to tread. In human terms, I guess we can view him as a Benevolent Dictator; Benevolent being the important aspect of the title. We all know He has the power to do whatever He wants, but most of the time He chooses not to interfere in our lives, gives us the freedom to make our own choices. And when we ignore His guidance and make mistakes, He’s only too willing to shower us with LOVE and mercy, if we sincerely admit our faults. Above all else though, He’s our Saviour! He loved us so much that He sent His one and only son, J.C. to die on the cross to redeem our sinful souls. Who else would create us, give us freedom of choice, then, after we’ve turned against Him, still provide a way out for us? Only Our God; Jehovah! Mighty and Magnificent in every aspect, and most worthy of our thanks and praise. Friends, please, let’s give Him, His Due. Much LOVE

Today’s Scrip-Bit 9 September 2007 Psalm 55: 22‏

Psalm 55: 22.     Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

Truer words were never spoken! And I’m talking from experience. Not that I’m righteous, though I try to live right, but over the years, the Good Lord has certainly come through for me. In spite of many unwise decisions, when I should have been down for the count, through some fortunate, last minute, circumstances I’ve always bounced back. I was brought up in the church, but strayed during my early manhood, kept my heart decent though. Looking back now, I can definitely see His hand, His lovingkindness at work in my life. Many times I’ve been at my wit’s end, unable to solve my problems, and would end up with nervous stomach problems. And although He always bailed me out eventually, I wasn’t bright enough to figure it out. It’s only in the last fifteen years, since I started going back to church and raised my level of spirituality, that I realized there was no need to fret and worry, just do my part, then leave the rest to Him. He’ll work it out in His own time and fashion. Now there’s no more nervous stomach. I’ve finally learned to turn the problems over to Him and wait, sometimes impatiently, but wait nonetheless. The problem is that we don’t listen to Him. What can be more straightforward than bring your problems to me and I will help you. But to our simple minds that value complicated things, that seems too easy. But it is true my Friends. Whatever problems beset us, we can take them to our wonderful, magnanimous Creator and He will help us. Turn to Him today.  Much LOVE!

Today’s Scrip-Bit 8 September 2007 Ecclesiastes 5: 4-5‏

Ecclesiastes 5:4-5    When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it, for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed. Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.

It makes sense: Why make a promise and not keep it, especially to God, when we know he does not condone that type of behaviour?  I guess though, when we need something badly, we make all sorts of promises without thinking of the consequences, until it comes time to pay up, then we try to wiggle out. But God has no time for people who lack integrity, whose heart isn’t attuned to Him. It’s certainly better not to make promises, than make them and fail to keep them. And although the Bit talks about vows with God, it also pertains to dealings with each other. In days past, a vow, promise, contract, whatever, was usually sealed with a simple handshake, and you would try your very best not to break it, because your integrity and level of trust would suffer. Today however, things like trust and integrity seem irrelevant. People make and break promises without considering the effects on themselves or others. Very few people will now accept a handshake as a binding agreement, although the lengthy contracts drawn up by lawyers now, are still broken with impunity, creating more work and wealth for lawyers in the courts. Friends, that is not how J.C wants us to live. His philosophy is one of trust, integrity, and caring. Remember, He is faithful that promised, and that’s the way He wants us to live. So let’s see if we can’t get back to when a promise was a promise nuh, and our word was as good as gold. Much LOVE…with Lots of Integrity.

Today’s Scrip-Bit 7 September 2007 Luke 10: 36-37.‏

Luke 10: 36-37.   Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among thieves? And he said, He that shewed mercy on him.
Then Jesus said unto him, Go and do thou likewise. We’ve all heard the Good Samaritan Parable, where both a priest and a Levite, two supposedly Godly men, passed by a beaten man, while a Samaritan, held in lowly esteem by society, stopped and helped him. Well I just want to share some ‘Samaritanship’ I encountered on my trip. Labour Day Monday evening, after all the jamming on the Eastern Parkway finish, mih Aunty Anne and mihself walking back, dead tired, from the Museum to our car on Saratoga, that’s almost the entire Parkway. Halfway up, we decided to rest a spell, and I asked a brother, cleaning up his food stall, if he had anything cold to drink. Just some iced tea. How much? Nothing, going to throw it out anyway. After two large glasses each, of surprisingly good iced tea, we continued our trek, both commenting that we could not have made it without the energy it provided. Then, the first day I got lost in Philly, I was aimlessly driving around a parking lot in a small mall, looking for somebody to ask directions of, when suddenly I saw this brother in a small, red Toyota about to drive away. I blew my horn and stopped him. After a moment’s thought, he told me to follow him, he knew where it was, his mother used to be there, and he led me right to the door of the nursing home, then drove away with only a wave. Now, the next evening I was downtown Philly, in the rush hour, trying to find my way back again, when at a red light, this nice looking thirty somethingish sister pulled up beside me in a convertible. I obviously asked for assistance, and she pulled over to the side, then she too told me to follow her. At one point she stopped a taxi in the middle of the road, with angry horns honking all around her, and asked the driver for directions, then took me to a street that ran all the way up to the nursing home. But the most powerful encouragement was in Atlantic City at the cyber cafe.  After writing the day’s Bit, I called the owner over, a middle aged Jewish businessman, and asked him to read it. He generously obliged. Halfway through, a smile lit up his face, then at the end, he said, send me that. Here’s my e-mail address and gave me his business card. I was surprised, but pleased. It gave me some motivation to keep on keeping on. Hn! As I keep on saying, the Good Lord does move in mysterious ways. Thank you Lance, and all the other people, whose names I don’t know, but who helped me when I needed it. So Friends, let’s all go and do likewise nuh. Please, because we don’t know whose life we’ll impact  with some little kindness, through Our God’s machinations. LOVE!  It’s a bit long today, but when it proclaims God’s goodness, nothing is ever too long.

Today’s Scrip-Bit 6 September 2007 Psalm 75:1‏

Psalm 75:1    Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks: for that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare.

A multitude of thanks and praise to Our Heavenly Father for bringing the Duchess and I safely back home from our short sojourn in the U.S.of A. Sorry people, that’s why this was late, but it’s still Thursday, so better late then never. I had no access to a computer today, but figured I’d be home earlier than 8 p.m. I had one inquiry about a different format yesterday, that’s possibly because I was using a computer in a Cyber Cafe in Atlantic City. Can’tafford to miss any days. However, although the trip was rough in some respects the Lord was real magnanimous to me; that’s the only word to describe it. Both in my reactions to certain travails along the way, and the manner in which He dealt with them. Example: I spent the last two days in Philadelphia visiting my father-in -law, and both days I left the Nursing Home where he’s at, to go and do some stuff for myself, and both days I got lost at the same place and drove around Philly like a lost sheep. But I was cool, I laughed it off, and both times a Good Samaritan came out of nowhere to help me. In fact, I got lost so many times on this trip, in Philly, Atlantic City, New Jersey, it possibly adds up to more than all the other times combined. But The Most High always got me out of them after a suitable time of pennance. It’s so good to be home though, cause there’s no place like home.  Praise and Thank Him for His Lovingkindness!  Much LOVE!

Today’s Scrip-Bit 5 September 2007 1 Chronicles 22: 13.

1 Chronicles 22: 13.    Then shalt thou prosper, if thou takest heed to fulfil the statutes and judgements which the Lord charged Moses with, concerning Israel: be strong and of good courage, dread not nor be dismayed.

It’s so simple. The Most High spelt it out in no uncertain terms: Don’t be afraid, if you follow My rules and have a little courage, you’ll prosper. And it’s only two easy rules; LOVE your GOD, and LOVE your neighbour the way you want him to LOVE you. That covers the entire ten commandments. Why then do we find it so difficult to follow eh? Possibly because we tend to value things according to their level of difficulty: the more difficult the more valuable. The negativity in our lives today is unbelievable, and most of it could be solved by following the second rule; treat your neighbour the way you want him to treat you. Why do we find it easier to hate than to LOVE, when so many good things flow from LOVE, and only negativity and destruction from hate? Friends, we’ve got to change that, starting on a personal level. When we harbour negative things like anger, greed and jealousy, it only festers in our soul, and like acid in a plastic bottle, eats away the container. Let’s stop doing that and be of good courage, stand strong, LOVE our GOD, and our neighbour as ourselves. There is nothing that puts a smile on HIS face as when HIS children LOVE HIM and each other. So please, please, let’s make HIM smile a real big smile today. Oodles and oodles of LOVE!

Today’s Scrip-Bit 4 September 2007 I Thessalonians 3: 12.

1 Thessalonians 3: 12.    And the Lord make you to increase and abound in LOVE, one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you.

Well, finally, Labour Day weekend is over. That means the summer holiday season is also done. It’s back to school and work for many people, and as such, it’s also a good time to review our relationships: how we treat friends and family, co-workers, people in authority over us, as well as strangers. If you are a follower of J.C. then what Paul is telling the Thessalonians should not sound strange to you, it should already be working steadfastly in you, but since we are an imperfect being, we need to be reminded and our spirit renewed every so often. God is LOVE, and believers are supposed to show an abundance of that trait. Not the meaningless word that we carelessly bandy about every day, but a sincere showing of kindness, respect, patience, forgiveness and helpfulness. The attitude where we uplift each other, so that non-believers, as well as fellow believers, can see that we are truly about God’s business and become filled with the desire to share our joyous message and lifestyle. So Friends, let’s concentrate on LOVE today, and as Paul wished, may the Lord make you to increase and abound in it…towards everybody. Plenty, Plenty, Plenty LOVE.

Today’s Scrip-Bit 3 September 2007 Psalm 68:4, Ecclesiastes 3:13

Psalm 68:4.   Sing unto God, sing praises to his name: extol him that rideth upon the heavens by his name JAH, and rejoice before him.  Ecclesiastes 3:13.   And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.

It’s a double whammy this Labour Day weekend. It’s only fitting to give thanks and praise to Our God, for all the good things He’s done for us. Remember the days when the ordinary worker was so underpaid and overworked (we still are) but by uniting, raised our standard of living, Sadly though, we are regressing in the ever onward, misguided rush for ‘cheapness’. Confucius say,"good thing no cheap, and cheap thing no good." Let’s not take advantage of the ordinary working man, on whose straining back, like the worker bees and ants, that our prosperity is earned. Let’s try and share it equitably. A fair wage for a fair day’s work, must be our motto, not a subsistence wage for an excessive amount of toil, while the upper echelons get an exorbitant portion of the rewards. Remember, capital, without labour is useless and vice-versa. It’s all part of the eternal circle. Friends, our standards are falling, in everything. Let’s try and raise them nuh. Employers, please pay a fair wage. Workers, please give a fair effort. The lowest common denominator is seldom the best, and the difference between a so called first and third world country is simply a matter of standards; you lower them, you become third world; you raise them, you become first. Then it’s a matter of consistently keeping them high. Let’s all try and do that please. Much LOVE…Much Diligent Working…and Equitable Rewards for Our Labour.

Today’s Scrip-Bit 2 September 2007 Matthew 17: 20

Matthew 17: 20.   And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible to you.

That’s J.C’s answer to his disciples regarding their inability to heal a mentally ill child. FAITH! It is the cornerstone of Life! Just to live from one day to the next can be very challenging, and we need a strong encourager to keep us keeping on. Recently, we heard about the two Chinese coal miners, the Meng brothers  trapped underground in a collapsed illegal mine, with no food or water, but who, having been given up for dead, emerged from it alive, almost six days later. They had high hopes of being rescued until the digging stopped. But they didn’t, they persevered; for two days, by the light of a cell phone, until the battery died, then in the dark, eating coal and drinking their own urine, clawing ever upwards, one at a time, in a narrow tunnel, with only a pick and their hands, through nearly 20 metres of coal and rock. I don’t know what gave them the fortitude, possibly the thought of their families, since China is still a Communist country that frowns on Christian beliefs. But if that isn’t an awesome example of mountain-moving FAITH, both literally and figuratively, I don’t know what is. Friends, let’s not forget this most moving story, a probable miracle, and let’s use it as a powerful example whenever our Faith is challenged. Much LOVE…and…Plenty Plenty FAITH BUILDING
