Today’s Scrip-Bit 28 December 2007 Mark 2:17‏

Mark 2:17    When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Edifying words of Jesus my Friends! He had cause to enlighten the hypocrite elite of the Jewish society, the Scribes and Pharisees, when they questioned Him about eating and associating with sinners and publicans. On this particular occasion, at the house of one Levi, a tax collector. It’s obvious they did not understand J.C’s purpose down here. He was meant to be the propitiation for our sins; our Saviour from the wicked world, so who else was He supposed to hang out with eh? Definitely not the righteous, like they considered themselves. That group was already saved. It was the ones who weren’t saved that He came to claim as His own, so to do that He had to hang with the unrighteous, and unsaved. That’s the only way He could interact with them and teach them about His Father’s mercy and loving kindness and fulfil His destiny. And just take a look at the rough, uncouth group that Jesus put together to be His disciples nuh. That alone speaks volumes about His perspicacity: whom better to use as an example than one(s) from the same group we’re trying to proselytize? (smile) That’s one of the qualities I admire most about Jesus. He hung out with what was considered the wrong crowd; the prostitutes, the drunks, the low life; in fact the ordinary people, the salt of the earth. Two thousand years later, too many of us are still like the hypocrite Scribes and Pharisees; turn up our noses at the fallen and downtrodden, considering ourselves too nice, too prim and proper to even give them the time of day, much less eat or associate with them. But Friends, those are exactly the ones who need our help, those are the sick ones who need the healing of the Great Physician. It’s out there, in the rough parts of the world, that we’re expected to go and spread the Word. We’re not meant to just sit in our comfortable middle class surroundings and hypocritically pat ourselves on the back for the wonderful job we’ve done building our earthly wealth. That’s heifer dust people! What about the spiritual wealth? There are so many of our fellow children of God, out on the highways and byways, the alleys and shanties, who need spiritual heart transplants, who for one reason or another have fallen, or have never heard or understood the Word. They are the ones who need our helping hand. Remember, our calling is to walk in Jesus’ footsteps, and He went, walked to boot, all over His countryside, meeting, greeting and helping the poor and spiritually downtrodden. Friends, to be a sincere, successful follower of J.C, that’s what we got to do too.Much LOVE!…let’s…eschew the comfortable life…get up…go out…and spread the Word of LOVE…where it’s so badly needed…
