Today’s Scrip-Bit 16 January 2008 Hebrews 13: 1-3‏

Hebrews 13: 1-3    Let brotherly love continue. Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourself also in the body.

Today’s Bit was easy, as it was one of those I had to choose from yesterday. It also continues in the same vein; talking about the traits we need to cultivate and practice. Bruh Paul is telling the Hebrews to let brotherly LOVE continue. That’s for sure, since it’s somewhat difficult, if not impossible to claim you LOVE Jesus, whom you’ve never seen, and not LOVE your brother whom you’ve seen. Also be careful when you’re entertaining strangers. Always give of your best, because it could be an angel, a good samaritan, or somebody who is supposed to play a helpful role in your life, and if you’re anything less than gracious, it could spoil everything the Most High had planned for you. Remember, the Lord plans lots of good stuff for us, but almost always, for it to kick in successfully, we have a part to play, and if we don’t, then we miss out on the good thing. So we’ve got to be very careful how we treat people we don’t know. Paul also encourages us to think about those who are in bonds, whether it be in jail, as hostages, or whatever situation that reduces their freedom. The same thing goes for those suffering other types of adversity; be it sickness, a natural or man made disaster. We need to put ourselves in their place, pray for them, then do whatever we can to help. It’s so easy in these turbulent and unsettled times to lose your freedom, your material possessions, your health and even your life. And if any mishap befalls us, we’ll surely be looking for help and sympathy too. Bruh Paul recognized the need for us to stick together, to help each other. That’s the only way any group can survive, much less prosper. It’s all about empathy, kindness, brotherly LOVE; walking in Christ’s footsteps. And although we can never fill His shoes, we must attempt to tread the path of goodness and mercy, righteousness and truth that He has trod. Friends, it’s the only way that we can truly become His followers. Remember, He was a DOER, much more than a talker. And this quote from the song ‘Behold’ by Culture, admirably reflects these sentiments. ‘This world is like a mirror. If you face it smiling, It will smile right back to you. So do unto others, as you would have them do.’ Much LOVE!…more Culture…the countenance of one man…brighteneth another…
