Philippians 2:12-15 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Do all things without murmurings and disputings. That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world.
This is Paul reminding the Philippians how to live a life worthy of Jesus. Friends, the same prescription applies to us. Our world to day though is bigger and even more crooked and perverse that that of the Philippians two thousand years ago. It’s so bad that you have to make a conscious effort to stand strong, else you could exist in a state of constant fear. Paul praised the the people of Philippi for walking in obedience to God, not only when he was with them, but more so during his absence. But he could not hold their hands forever, so they had to learn to work out their own problems, based on the principles of Jesus that he’d thought them. Friends, that’s something we’ve all got to do too; both as individuals and together, as the body of Christ, the Church. But it’s not an easy thing. It takes a concerted effort of all involved, because as individuals, we all have different wants, needs and desires, plus the enemy is always throwing up roadblocks. You can count on that. However, as Bruh Paul confidently states; ‘For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do his good pleasure.’ Yes People! As believers, it’s God who’s working in us; who’s leading and guiding us through obedience to his sovereign will. And knowing that He won’t lead us astray, as Paul advises, we should ‘Do all things without murmurings and disputings.’ Oh People, that should be our mantra! Unfortunately, it’s the very source of our downfall. We all claim to believe in the Most High God, Jehovah, and all that He stands for, but sadly, when the time comes for us to take action, and show that faith as one strong body, hn, everything just seems to fall apart. There’s so much bad mouthing and complaining, it creates numerous divisions, with some breeches never healed. And that’s true of all our religious bodies today. The Church is so fragmented today, that some groups consist of only a handful of people. But Friends, that’s so counter productive. How can we appeal to the hearts of others when all they see is infighting amongst us eh? We can only move forward and do God’s work if we act as one. That’s why Bruh Paul advocated we put aside our petty, selfish pride and jealousies, the usual cause of the divisiveness, and work together. The operative word being ‘together.’ ‘That we may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke,’ and in the midst of this wicked world, we would shine brilliantly, as lights illuminating its darkness. That’s what Jesus asked us to do: Let our lights shine, so that unbelievers could see our good works and believe. That’s my sincere hope and prayer for us today Friends; that we let our lights shine…brightly. Much LOVE!…light is only produced …when negative and positive are joined together…
