Luke 9:62 And Jesus said unto him, No man having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for for the kingdom of God.
So true my Friends. Looking back is fraught with pitfalls. If you keep looking back while moving forward, at some point you’ll harm yourself, by walking into a wall, or into a busy intersection; or if driving, into the back of another car or a pedestrian. Whatever it is though, you’ll eventually meet with misfortune, if you pay too much attention to what’s behind you. On one of Jesus’ outings, several people claimed they wanted to follow him, but all had something to do first. One had to bury his father. ‘Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.’ Vs.60. Another wanted to go and say goodbye to his family first. That’s when Jesus quoted Today’s Bit. And He’s right, because in the physical act of ploughing, straight furrows are essential, and looking back causes you to plough crooked, zig zag furrows. The same principle applies to our lives people. We need to look forward; to the future, to good, productive and prosperous times, to salvation and eternity with Christ. Constantly dwelling on our past, only dredges up regrets and other negative emotions that distract us from our main purpose; to live a life obedient and pleasing to God. As Jesus said, ‘go thou and preach the kingdom of God.’ It’s obvious we’ve got to take stock of our lives every so often, and learn from our mistakes, but we shouldn’t dwell in the past. It’s gone already, there’s nothing we can do about it, so just learn from it and move on. The past is like the rear-view mirrors in our cars. You’ll notice they’re all small, while the windshield is much larger. That’s because we need to see much more of where we’re going, than where we’ve come from. Occasional glances are good enough for that. The Bible has several examples of those who looked back and met a sad end. Lot’s wife, for instance, when they were running from the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. They were specifically instructed not to look back, but she disobeyed, and turned into a pillar of salt. Then there were the men of Ai, who, after Joshua set their city on fire, pursued the Israelites heading for the dessert, but stopped to look back at their burning city, and were possibly captivated by the flames, for fire is a very bewitching, entrancing entity, and by the time they caught themselves, they were being ambushed on both sides by the Israelites. Just shows people, that we need to keep our hands on the wheel, and our eyes focused on the road ahead, cause that’s where our journey lies. As Bruh Paul said, ‘Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith…’ Heb.12:2. So Friends, let’s leave the past in the past nuh, where it belongs, and move forward and upward, to better and brighter accomplishments. In the name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen! As always, Much LOVE!…facing tomorrow is challenging enough…why dwell on the negatives of yesterday eh…
