Today’s Scrip-Bit 21 June 2008 Romans 10:15‏

Romans 10:15    …as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things.

Ah Friends, having decided to continue with Romans 10, I could not decide which verse to use as the Bit. But the sentiments, the logic, and the word play of Vs.15 eventually won me over. Now that’s the kind of stuff by Bruh Paul that excites me, even though it’s based on Isaiah 52:7: ‘How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!’ Yes people, it’s certainly wonderful to hear others spread peace and good tidings, and in this particular case, preach Jesus Christ, as Bruh Paul desires. But we’ve got to back up a bit to get the full story. Yesterday he talked about Jesus being the only key to salvation. Today he emphasizes that he’s preaching the word of faith; faith in Jesus Christ, and if we confess and truly believe in His death and resurrection, then we’ll be saved. ‘For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.’  (Vs.11) That’s based on Jeremiah 17:7: ‘Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.’ In fact, Romans 10 is a skilful melding and blending by Bruh Paul of Old Testament Scripture, to prove his point that Christ based faith is the only way to salvation. Then he advocates that there’s no difference between the Jew and Gentile, because the one true God accepts all who call upon Him. ‘For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.’ (Vs.13) Now that is based on Joel 2:32: ‘And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord, shall be delivered…’ And having said all of that, he then mulls; ‘How then shall they call on him, in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace and bring glad tidings of good things.’ (Vs.14-15) It just felt more appropriate to let Bruh Paul say it himself, he weaves it so skilfully. Then with his nimble brain, he complains in the next verse (16) ‘But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?’  That refers to Isaiah 53:1: ‘Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?’ Bruh Paul then concludes, ‘So then faith cometh by hearing; and hearing by the word of God.’ (Vs.17) He’s talking about the oral communication of the gospel. Not faith in what is heard, but faith that comes about by what is heard. Saving faith can only come about through the gospel. Salvation is of God, and can only be received through knowing and accepting the gospel of Christ. Friends, as believers, it’s our responsibility to live a life whereby we can be numbered amongst those who spread the message of peace and glad tidings of good things, especially, the gospel of Christ. Much LOVE!…sadly…those who don’t know the gospel…can’t be saved…
