Acts 17:16-17 Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry. Therefore disputed he in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met him.
Bruh Paul was truly something else yes Friends. After they ran him out of Thessalonica, he went to Berea, a small town nearby. But when the Thessalonian Jews heard that he was having success there too, they conspired to also have him run out of Berea. That’s when he ended up in Athens, waiting for Silas and Timothy. But yuh think he could sit still and shut up, especially after just being run out of two towns? Not on yuh life! Once he saw the rampant idolatry in the city, ‘…his spirit was stirred in him.’ This led him to earnestly converse with the Jews and devout Gentiles he met in the market place. At that time Athens had waned in political and economic importance, but was still an intellectual centre, where the main preoccupation was to sit around and discuss philosophy and new ideas. So it was an ideal place for Bruh Paul to expound. I wish we could all have his faith, strong conviction and zeal for Christ. Can you imagine how hard it must have been for him to convince people of his good intentions, after being one of the chief persecutors of early Christians, but now telling them that Christ was the only way to salvation? Hn! Bruh Paul sure had many manly parts. (smile) And Friends, that’s what many of us lack. We’re uncomfortable, or afraid to say we’re Christians, or talk to people about Christ, cause they’ll find us strange and won’t like us and we won’t fit in. But in reality, what we’re doing is making man’s opinion more important than our calling to spread God’s word. People, that doesn’t sit well with the Father. Remember, He said that if you’re ashamed of, or deny Him, He’ll do the same to you. Yuh see Friends, other people’s opinion didn’t bother Bruh Paul, even when he was beaten or imprisoned. He was secure in his knowledge and faith in Christ. Everybody can’t be a gung-ho proselytizer (soul saver) like Bruh Paul, but I’m sure we can all increase our zeal and spread the faith with a bit more gusto, than we’re currently doing. And I don’t mean badgering or brow beating. The enemy is winning right now people. They’re up-beat and enthusiastic about their ungodliness, spreading it like wildfire. Friends, it’s our responsibility to counter that spread; stop it and turn it around with our good news of Jesus and the wonderful things He’s done for us. Remember, we need to have everyone on earth hear the word and accept it, before Jesus comes again, so that all can be saved, and none thrust out into eternal darkness. You know that’s the sincere wish of Jesus: He doesn’t want even one, single, solitary soul to be lost. So let’s work together fervently nuh, towards granting Him that wish. In light of all He’s done for us, it’s a relatively small request to honour. Much LOVE!…true believers…always have Jesus…on the tip of their tongues…
