Hebrews 1:7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.
Friends, if we are His ministers, then that’s exactly how we ought to act; like Flames of Fire! Although this passage comes from Bruh Paul’s reasoning that Christ was higher than the angels, not today’s subject, it suited my purpose admirably, especially as he’s using Bruh David’s words. ‘Who maketh his angels spirits, his ministers a flaming fire.’ (Ps.104:4) I was reading a poem today from a book titled ‘Prayers for Paschal People.’ Those involved in the pilgrimage with Christ, the ongoing journey home, constantly experiencing dying and rebirth, danger, rough times, pain, passion, compassion; but taking it all in stride, with God’s ever present help, while helping and sharing with each other. Does that sound like your life people? I hope it does. Anyway, the author, James Bitney, describes how his three year old daughter gave him a lesson in the theology of creation: God mixes dust and mud and bones into a lump and wraps it all in skin. ‘Nextest God puts the lump in secret fire, and then we come alive!’ Wow! That vision surprised the author and got me to thinking that’s what many of us Christians need today; to be placed in God’s secret fire, so that we can come alive again, since we seem to have lost the fire, the zeal, the enthusiasm, the drive we had when we first embarked on our Christian journey. Yes Friends, the walk of faith is not for the faint of heart, and even the strongest and most enthusiastic gets tired, weary and frustrated at some time, with all the stuff that comes against you, especially if you’re on the front lines. Those fighting the hardest for Christ, usually get the most trials. So occasionally we all need to rest and recoup our strength, then zealously continue the fight, the journey filled with roadblocks, detours, pot holes and every conceivable distraction and deterrent the enemy can find to prevent us making it safely home. But people, remember, we are God’s ministers, assigned to convert unbelievers to His holy purpose of LOVE, and as such, He made us each a flame of fire, because fire warms, consumes and transforms. St.Therese of the Little Flower believed it was the fire of Christ’s LOVE, that enabled her to grow in virtue. That’s what we need to renew, to rekindle our flame Friends; a moment, or moments in the secret fire of Jesus’ LOVE. The enemy is getting real powerful since we Christians aren’t making sufficient inroads into his territory, not converting enough unbelievers from his dark, evil ways to Christ’s bright, promise filled future. We’ve become too selfish, complacent and comfortable. We’ve lost that fire, that wonder and awe of God, which initially made us hungry, anxious to get out into the sinful world and fight toe to toe with the enemy, confident we’d overcome, enfolded in God’s protective shield. If we don’t feel that way people, then something’s wrong. We’ve got to get back that fighting feeling today, yes Friends, today. Few of us can possess Bruh Paul’s tireless zeal, but that’s the sort of stirred up spirit we need, if we’re going to be successful in Christ’s work. Friends, let’s get that sputtering fire in our souls roaring again nuh, so we can be ministers of flaming fire again, avidly winning souls for Jesus. Much LOVE!…without fire…there’s no warmth…no joy…no comfort…no LOVE…
