Today’s Scrip-Bit 4 November 2008 Isaiah 48:17‏

Isaiah 48:17    Thus saith the Lord thy redeemer, the Holy one of Israel; I am the Lord thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way thou shouldest go.

Well Friends, the big day is finally here; Presidential Election Day in the U.S of A! Today, more than any other day, the eyes of the entire world are focused on the mightiest nation that’s ever existed. Recently though, their might and power have been severely curtailed, and they’re currently on a speedy downward spiral. It seems that’s the eventual fate of all great nations, organizations and people. They become so large and powerful, that their very size and power works against them, making them unwieldy to handle, plus they all seem to conveniently forget where they came from, and who or what brought them to the pinnacle of power. Ah Friends, the U.S.A was founded by the Puritans, a God fearing group fleeing religious persecution in England, who decided to set the course of their new nation by God’s will. And they were successful. So successful that it eclipsed all others from the beginning of time. But too much size and power really seems to overwhelm us and we end up losing our way. ‘Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.’ The U.S figured they were so big and powerful, they could beat the whole world singlehandedly, and without the Lord’s help too. They simply got too big for their breeches. They forgot that it was the Lord God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that had empowered and caused them to ascend to such lofty levels, and began believing their own press. They are now one of the most sinful and ungodly nations the world has ever seen. Sodom and Gomorrah are like prep-school compared to them. But they also boast one of the widest and varied religious communities in the world. What a contradiction! Mao should have lived in the U.S. before he wrote ‘On Contradiction.’ But Friends, ‘time longer than twine.’ Our God is very patient. He gives us lots of rope to either hang ourselves, or pull ourselves up out of the mire. Remember the Israelites who whined and complained while wandering in the desert for eighty unnecessary years, instead of simply doing what God said; go over the Jordan and possess the Promised Land. When they finally did, only two persons who came out of Egypt, Caleb and Joshua, lived to do so. Then, when life got rosy, they forgot the Lord, until he allowed serious problems to befall them. A parallel seems to exist here with the U.S. They were riding high on the coattails of the Lord, but then forsook Him. Like Icarus, in Greek Mythology, who tried to escape from prison on Crete by fashioning wings from feathers and wax and got so delusional when he soared on high, that he flew straight towards the sun, melting his wings and plummeting into the sea. The U.S has finally realized it’s mortality. Anyway, the U.S has two choices today: Elect John McCain, of the Republican Party, and continue down the same path of self-illusion and self destruction that George Bush has led them down for the past eight years. Or elect Barack Obama of the Democratic Party, whose campaign was based on the premise of Hope and Change. Whom shall prevail? Only the Lord knows. But know one thing, the nation is in turmoil, judging from the dirty campaigns. It’s still bigoted and racist, despite the friendly smiles and glad-handing, and whoever wins, won’t have an easy task of restoring it to some semblance of prosperity. Obama seems to be the one best suited to lead them back to the godly path. But the Republicans will not let that happen without a great fight, as the status quo greatly benefits them. If Obama does win though, Friends, please don’t expect things to change right away, or expect handouts. The nation did not become powerful on handouts, but on productive work by its citizens. Remember too, one man, or a small group, cannot bring about positive change unless the majority desires it and is willing to work for it. Think about Moses, and all the other leaders of the Israelites, who tried to get them to follow God, but their hearts were stubbornly bent on the enemy’s easy, frivolous living, not on God’s will. Oh Friends, let’s pray that the U.S. awakens from its godless reverie, realizes its mistakes and returns to following the One, True God, of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, who faithfully promised, ‘I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way in which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.’ (Ps.32:8) Otherwise, I shudder to think of the world’s plight; for as the U.S. goes, so does the rest of the world. Much LOVE!…people usually get the govt. they deserve…
