Today’s Scrip-Bit 5 November 2008 Daniel 12:3‏

Daniel 12:3    And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.

Ah Friends, it’s finally over: Barack Obama was elected the 44th President of the United States of America! And by an overwhelming majority too! The wise in America at last stood up and said no more going down hill, it’s time to stop the life threatening bleeding and start the journey back to the top. And Friends, don’t be fooled or overwhelmed by all the celebrations, it will be a long, arduous journey back to the top of the heap. But as they showed today, when it really matters, they have the enviable ability to come together, to rise above selfish ethnicity, creed and race. They can change chameleon-like when the interest of their country is in jeopardy. And believe you me, the U.S is in serious trouble; economically, financially, spiritually, politically, socially, morally…all the ‘allys.’ I doubt they’ve sunk this low since the Great Depression. And strange enough, for the first time in it’s two hundred and odd years history, the country has turned to a Great Black Hope to lead it out of the abysmal morass that the White Hope has mired it in. Yes Friends, for the first time, someone of African heritage will lead the mighty U.S.of A! It is important and all that, but I personally dislike the term African American, or African any country. To me it rings of separatism; just another means of continuing the ‘ism and schism thing.’  But even more so in this case because Obama’s maternal family was white. Apparently that doesn’t count for anything, for it’s all about the first Black or African American President of the U.S. But there again, hype has always been America’s number one product, and if it makes them feel good or finally righteous as a nation, then so be it. But don’t think  that two hundred and odd years of racism and bigotry will just disappear because someone of African heritage was elected President. Friends, it will not. Many of the African Americans themselves either consider Obama too black, or not black enough. Depends on your skin colour and mental outlook. And even worse, in some pockets of the country the racists and bigots will be highly incensed; The audacity of a ‘n-word’ running the country! They will possibly upgrade their efforts to cause problems. But this is not the time for anybody, majority or minority, to indulge in any nonsense. As John McCain said in his graceful speech of defeat, the campaigns and elections are over, a new leader has been chosen, and it’s time for all Americans to put aside their prejudices, their differences, and work together for the good of the country. Obama, in his humble victory speech, emphasized the same thing, wrapping it around the phrase, ‘Yes you can!’ And they can, we can, everybody can, but Friends not without the help of the One, True God, Jehovah. Remember when Jesus told His disciples that it was easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter heaven and they were so amazed, wanting to know then who could be saved? ‘But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’ (Mat.19:26)  Let us not forget that Friends. Let’s hope that the new government of the U.S. realizes this too, and endeavours to rebuild the country on the Christian principles on which it was originally founded. Without the overwhelming presence of God, the country will continue to founder and falter. All the catch phrases like, ‘Yes you can,’ and all the calls for hope and change will be like empty sounding vessels unless the underlying presence of God is there. That’s why they were on the road to destruction in the first place; the increasing absence of God and the rise to prominence of the enemy. Anyway Friends, on this momentous occasion, let’s remember one thing, the desperate need for prayer; especially for Obama and his family, that the Lord will watch over them and keep them from harm. But above all Friends, that our ever loving and merciful God will instil the Wisdom of Solomon, the Strength of Samson and the Patience of Job in Obama himself, for he will certainly need all those attributes in enormous quantities, if he’s to be successful. Let’s also pray for the country and those that help him to govern it; that they will be wise and shine as the brightness of the heavens, and they’ll turn the whole nation to righteousness, and keep on shining as bright and plentiful as the stars for ever. Remember, as the U.S. goes, so do all of us. Much LOVE!…hope…faith…change…all start with…belief in God…
