Today’s Scrip-Bit 6 November 2008 Jeremiah 10:23‏

Jeremiah 10:23    O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.

Of a truth Friends, man does not direct his way or his steps! It is the Lord’s doing! Solomon said it best: ‘The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the Lord.’ (Prov.16:1) Yes Friends, the plans in a man’s heart might be his, but if he’s a believer in the Lord God Jehovah, then what issues from his mouth will be guided and directed by God, in terms of His will. Jesus, before He ascended, made the disciples aware of the persecution they would suffer in His name, but He also reassured them of His protection. ‘And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto the magistrates, and powers, take no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say. For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.’ (Luke 12:11-12) Oh what a wonderful Being, our Saviour, Jesus Christ! Friends, if we believe and trust Him, we don’t need to worry about what to say if we’re brought before authorities who question our testimony and our faith. We will be instructed by the Holy Spirit, our Help-meet, that dwells in us. Hear Matthew’s version. ‘For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.’ (Mat.10:20) Praise His Holy Name people! Our God’s prepared us for all eventualities. What ever predicament we find ourselves in, we know for a fact, we have a written guarantee that He’ll be there to guide and protect us. And Friends, this is something He promised long before Jesus even came to earth. When the Lord appointed Moses the leader and spokesperson for the Israelites, he hemmed and hawed; ‘O lord, I am not eloquent…but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue. And the Lord said unto him, Who hath made man’s mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the Lord? Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.’ (Ex.4:10-12) Yes people, at times our God places us in rather precarious situations, but He’s faithfully promised that whatever He brings us to, He will bring us through. But Moses was not convinced of God’s promise, and continued asking for help. The Lord finally lost His patience with him, and agreed to give him the eloquent Aaron, to help him. ‘And thou shalt speak unto him, and put words in his mouth: and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do. And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people: and he shall be, even shall he be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be to him instead of God.’ (Ex.4:15-16) Yuh see Friends, even though Moses tried to wiggle out of God’s assignment with the lack of eloquence excuse, the Lord was dead set on him being the leader, and gave him the eloquent Aaron for his mouthpiece, so he had no more excuses. I know that God’s directives always seem more difficult than we can handle, but if we really live by the faith and trust we claim to have in Him, then we know full well that we’ll overcome all obstacles with His help. I’m living proof of that. As I’ve said before, when He first broached this Scrip-Bit idea, hn,hn, I laughed, because I considered my scriptural knowledge inadequate. But the Lord persisted, and I finally gave in, and almost two years later, we’re still going strong. And Friends, I can say with strong conviction, that the Lord’s help and guidance have played a great part in it. I am more scripturally aware now, but I still rely on His guidance. Only tonight, I was considering a different verse as the Bit, but He guided me to this one instead. Yes people, it’s not man who directs his footsteps, but the Lord. And if ‘Man’s goings are of the Lord, how can a man then understand his own way?’ (Prov.20:24) Obviously we can’t Friends. But then, the Lord never promised we’d understand His actions or dictates. He clearly stated that His thoughts and actions are higher than ours. All He asks is, if we declare ourselves believers in Him and His Son, Jesus Christ, then we live by His promises, exercise that trust and faith which marks and identifies us as believers. For He’ll never lead us wrong. He’s faithfully promised that. Just trust Him, Friends, and He’ll prove it a million times over. Much LOVE!…trust and obey…there’s no better way…to be happy in Jesus…than to…trust and obey…
