Today’s Scrip-Bit 17 November 2008 Jeremiah 13:16‏

Jeremiah 13:16    Give glory to the Lord your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness.

Oh Friends, continuing from yesterday: It’s never a good idea to ignore or forget who brought us to the dance, once we get there and begin to mingle and enjoy ourselves. The Israelites did that and received a dire warning from the Lord. I believe we’re currently doing the same thing, and if we look around us, we’ll find numerous warnings too; from natural to man made disasters. Right now a serious brush fire is burning near one of the wealthiest and most sinful cities; Los Angeles. Shouldn’t we be careful and consider it a warning? I hate to sound like a broken record, but from the time our forefathers fell from grace, man has walked a rough and rugged road, mostly because of his own folly, his mistaken belief in his superiority, both of mind and body. It’s true God made him to lord it over the earth and its other creatures, but not to be omnipotent. That’s reserved for Him. Man has conveniently forgotten that he’s someone else’s creation, and therefore accountable to whomever created him. That seems to be our biggest problem, especially as we create things ourselves and become more productive. We begin to believe that it’s all our own brilliance and ingenuity, forgetting to reckon into the mix, the hand of our Creator. Armed with that mind set, we then start drifting away from said Creator. It’s like we created ourselves, we’re immortal, and regardless of how often we’re proven wrong, we refuse to accept the inevitability that sooner or later, we’ll return to the dust from whence we came. Oh people, let’s remember that no man’s an island; he can’t do it all himself, he needs the help of others. Neither can mankind control himself, or the universe he did not create. That’s God’s job. And if we want to see good days, then we must pledge allegiance, show respect and bring honour to our benefactor. Just like we punish or withhold good things from our children for disobedience, its’ the same way the Lord rains on our parade when we misbehave. Only problem is, His punishment is much harsher, and can even be lethal. Jeremiah advises us to ‘Give glory to the Lord your God, before he cause darkness, before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains,’ Yes Friends, when we incur the Lord’s wrath it can turn out like this; ‘…and if one look unto the land, behold darkness and sorrow, and the light is darkened in the heavens thereof.’ (Is.5:30) ‘And they shall look unto the earth; and behold trouble and darkness, dimness of anguish; and they shall be driven to darkness.’  (Is.7:22) Amos puts it a tad nicer. ‘And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord God, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day.’ (Amos 8:9) People, we must give thanks and praise to our most merciful and forgiving God, cause if we don’t, and are caught stumbling on the mountains in darkness, ‘while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness.’ Now that’s a distinct, but not very nice possibility! Isaiah acknowledged it; ‘…we wait for light, but behold obscurity; for brightness, but we walk in darkness.’ (Is.59:9) And Bruh David declared: ‘Though thou hast sore broken us in the place of dragons, and covered us with the shadow of death. If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god. Shall God not search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.’ (Ps.44:19-21) Oh friends, we can run, but we can’t hide. Consider Jonah’s attempt nuh. The Lord knows whatever we think and/or do cause He made us. And what’s essential to remember, is that He created us for His sole satisfaction, not for anyone else’s. He breathe life into our dust moulded bodies to serve, worship and glorify Him, and Him alone. People it’s so simple, it’s laughable. Moving up one step higher; it’s like the earthly authority we pay allegiance to. If we disobey the laws, commit crimes, we’re punished. And yes, we rush to obey the puny laws of men, afraid of fines and jail terms, but the great Creator of all, because we can’t see or feel Him, we tend to ignore His universal dictates. Oh Friends, that’s so unwise, for men and their laws pass away and change constantly, but that of our Lord God never does; it’s the same yesterday, today and forever. Let’s wise up and realize that if we continually disobey His rules, then severe justice will be meted out to us; punishment harsher than man can ever inflict. Of that we can be sure. Much LOVE!…a fool says in his heart…there’s no God…that’s exactly why he’s a fool…
