1 Corinthians 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Now Friends, that’s one awesome truth believers must embrace! As the hymn says, ‘The church is one foundation, in Jesus Christ alone.’ We cannot be serious believers until we acknowledge and accept that Jesus is the foundation, the bed-rock on which His church is founded, and we are the body, built on that foundation. And it’s a solid one Friends! No doubt about that. Remember when Jesus spoke about the two houses, one built on sand, the other on solid ground? Well only the one built on the solid foundation braved the storms and the ravages of time. (Luke 6:48-49) It’s the same with us people; only when our lives are solidly grounded, constructed on a firm base, can we be successful. And I’m here to remind us Friends, that the best, the most solid, stable foundation available to build our lives on, in this turbulent world, is Jesus Christ; that beautiful Being who LOVED us so many, that He humbly died on our behalf. When Peter acknowledged Christ’s sovereignty without a moment’s hesitation, ‘Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.’ (Mat.16:16) Christ immediately rewarded him: ‘And I say unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock, I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.’ (Mat.16:18) This was Jesus’ way of saying that for His church to survive after His departure, it’s foundation members must truly believe that He was the Son of God. Peter obviously believed it, and so did the rest of His disciples. Implied, is that for it to grow large and strong, and really withstand the test of time, all future members must also believe that Jesus was the Son of God, even though they weren’t eye witnesses. That’s why our faith is so important people; to believe what a small group of poor, uneducated people said they witnessed over two thousand years ago. Bruh Paul solidifies it in his letter to the Ephesians. ‘Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God. And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone. In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto a holy temple in the Lord.’ (Eph.2:19-21) Now Friends, the church’s foundation is still solid, because it still rests on Jesus, the problem is whether the building around it is fitly framed and growing together? I have my doubts. The church has lasted for over two thousand years, through much persecution and hard times, but I get the distinct impression that today’s version is uncomfortably swaying in the evil winds of our time. Oh people, how I’d love to be wrong, but in the first place there are too many divisions and internal wrangling. That alone makes it so much easier for the enemy to prevail. Unfortunately, I also get the feeling that the believer’s faith today is not as strong as it used to be. The leadership doesn’t seem as strong, sincere and competent either. Too many people are turning away from God, and not enough to Him. Too many societies are putting up restrictions and removing privileges, and we seem incapable of stopping the trend. Meanwhile the enemy is unified, has a larger war chest, a bigger and better organization, and is always on the offensive. Overall Friends, Christianity just doesn’t seem to be as important as when I was growing up. Then it was a challenge to be a Christian, people took it more seriously. Today there seems to be a more ho-hum attitude, with which we obviously can’t defeat a superior armed and funded enemy. However, if we, the foot soldiers got our act together, especially with Jesus as commander, anything’s possible. Until we get together in unity, and fight as one body, we don’t stand a chance. Oh Friends, Christ’s church seems so fractured, I’m afraid the enemy will prevail at the gates. Many of us are out there trying our best, but judging from the sorry state of our world, it’s obviously not enough. Too many of us are still sitting on the sidelines, not even cheering for their team. How can we win without enthusiastic support eh? To prevent the enemy from prevailing, we need to go out and talk enthusiastically to others about the Word, then live our lives by it. Show Christianity in real action. Friends, that’s the best way to conquer the powerful enemy; from the grass roots up, starting with the children, cause they are tomorrow, they are the future, and if they don’t have Jesus in them, then they can’t put Him in the world. It surely wouldn’t look good for our generation to be blamed for allowing the church’s superstructure to become brittle and flimsy. So Friends, I implore us to get serious, to put on our righteous armour, and get out on the battlefield of life and fight the fight of our lives! Fight for ourselves, our children and Jesus! We can’t disappoint Him. He’s depending on us to keep His church, strong and well fitted together, so that it can last till He returns. Much LOVE!…stand up…stand up…for Jesus…the trumpet call obey…
