Ephesians 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.
Oh Friends, our God is a most excellent God! Anybody says different, tell them deh lie. And why am I so enthused? Because today I discovered a long lost friend from Elementary schooldays, almost half a century ago. Wow! Yuh know we must be getting on in age when we start talking about fifty years ago. Brother, the time sure does fly. It seems like just the other day we were in third standard, getting licks with Mr. Alleyne’s fat leather strap for not pronouncing his name properly. Every time you didn’t pronounce the ‘th’ in Anthony, you got a taste. ‘Hn! But those were still good days. The odd flogging gave us a greater sense of discipline than the nonsense that happens nowadays. Apparently we’ve both been trying to find the other, without any luck. But recently he visited a mutual friend in Florida and they got to talking about sweet Tobago, and they asked if he knew me. ‘But of course!’ he beamed. ‘We went to school together.’ It certainly was good hearing his voice after so long. Oh did I hear you say that was the Most High’s doing? For sure people. He just has such impeccable timing. And then, instead of writing the Bit, didn’t have a clue about it, I sat here playing a game on the computer, not winning, but only saying one more, one more, cause I just had that winning feeling in my blood. And I won finally. So with all that enthusiasm I came to the Good Book and asked the Most High for some guidance. Within a few moments He planted the seed, perseverance, in my mind, for that’s exactly what I was doing with the computer game. From there it was easy to come up with Bruh Paul’s take on the subject. He’s just finished telling the Ephesians to put on their armour of righteousness, without which we can’t fight the enemy. ‘Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.’ (Eph.6:13) But the armour alone is not sufficient, we also need prayer. ‘Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit.’ Prayer is an indispensable weapon in Jesus’ fight. He said it too. ‘And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray and not faint.’ (Luke 18:1) We should always pray; ‘Pray without ceasing,’ (1 Thes,5:17) and not lose heart, even when times are difficult. Prayer itself will uplift and strengthen you in the darkest hour, allowing you to deal productively with any problems you’re facing. Yes people, whenever the enemy attacks, we should fight him dressed in God’s armour, with fervent words of prayer echoing forth from our hearts, and if necessary, through our mouths. And don’t forget that other indispensable aid, the Holy Spirit, which dwells within us. It’s imperative we get the Spirit involved, for it’s our lifeline to Jesus; the one that delivers, that imparts the message of guidance from the Saviour. And while praying, we must also be ‘watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.’ Yes Friends, we have to be very vigilant about our prayer life. It must be a constant in our lives, not only when times are rough, or we want something from God. Jesus warned His disciples about that vigilance when He caught them sleeping in the Garden of Gethsemane. ‘Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.’ (Mat.26:41) So we’ve got to be serious about out prayer life, cause it’s our line of communication with God. If we don’t talk to Him, then we lose out on all His goodness and mercy. At the same time people, Bruh Paul’s saying we should not only pray for ourselves, but also for all the saint’s; the leaders, the workers on the front line bearing the brunt of the battle. If we do nothing else, we must pray diligently for them. The prayer of the righteous carries much weight with God. Bruh Paul appears to have prayed for all those whom he wrote to, though space won’t allow me to quote them. Friends, he actively practiced what he preached, and so should we. Yuh know I feel we don’t, so let’s start changing that right now nuh, through prayer; praying diligently for ourselves, our friends and families, our leaders, our priests and elders, the poor, sick, hungry, suffering; you name it. There’s a whole lotta people who need our prayers. Let’s not disappoint them nuh. Much LOVE!…talking to God…is the most interesting conversation…we can ever have…
