Deuteronomy 32:4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgement: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.
And all God’s people said, WOW! Yes Friends, that’s the gospel truth! Those are some of the attributes of the mighty, merciful, magnificent and forgiving God we serve, worship and adore. Give Him thanks people for His everlasting LOVE and goodness to us! There’s no law which says He has to. His heart just overflows with a LOVE so intense, so powerful, He can’t help Himself. We are the work of His hands, and who doesn’t LOVE what they create eh, even though it may be imperfect? Yes Friends, the Spirit just catapulted the ole fella up on a high of reverence and adoration. (smile) I wasn’t familiar with Today’s Bit and it just got me going. It’s part of a song Moses wrote for the Israelites when they came up out of Egypt: ‘And it shall come to pass when many evils and troubles are befallen them, that this song shall testify against them as a witness; for it shall not be forgotten out of the mouths of their seed.’ (Deut.31:21) Moses knew their propensity for backsliding. ‘For I know thy rebellion, and thy stiff neck: behold, while I am yet alive with you this day, ye have been rebellious against the Lord; and how much more after my death?’ (Deut.31:27) It would have broken his heart to see how many times they rebelled. Anyway, he gave them a song that would always remind them of their great God and His unbelievable kindness to them and their forefathers. Moses certainly waxed poetic and strong that day: ‘Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass: Because I will publish the name of the Lord: ascribe ye greatness unto our God.’ (Deut.32:1-3) Sing Hallelujah people! Yuh got to excuse the ole fella yes, cause some of the poetic language in the Good Book does really excite him, make him hunger for, wish and dream of being able to write like that. But I’m obedient, I’ll willingly play whatever role God assigns me. Moses apparently couldn’t talk well because of a speech impediment, but there’s certainly no hesitation in his writing. The overall picture is that of a faithful God, tested by a faithless, disobedient people. And what’s the first bit of greatness Moses ascribes to our God? ‘He is the ROCK!’ Oh yes people, our God is the ROCK! And Moses didn’t lead the stubborn, rebellious Israelites for all those years without learning something. He places The ROCK first for special emphasis. To emphasize the stability, reliability, strong foundation, the unmoving, immovable nature of our God; His permanence; Alpha and Omega; the First, as well as the Last. That people is how we’ve got to view the Lord our God. Unlike Jeshurun, who waxed fat on the Lord’s goodness, ‘then he forsook God which made him, and lightly esteemed the ROCK of his salvation.’ (vs.15) and went on to worship strange gods and commit other abominations. What a crying shame people! What an ingrate! I like how Moses puts it: ‘and lightly esteemed the ROCK of his salvation.’ It reminds me of Bruh David’s style. He also held forth on our God’s greatness. ‘I will LOVE thee, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my ROCK, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation and my high tower.’ (Ps.18:1-2) Glory Hallelujah! Oh Friends, how can we ever doubt the veracity of those two strong men of God eh, when they praise, exalt and sing of the power and majesty of the Most High God Jehovah? It’s not like they were perfect or talking from hearsay. They were unworthy sinners, just like us, did worse than some of us, but who, unlike the majority of their fellow citizens, placed their absolute faith and trust in the God of their fathers. And He, being the amazing, faithful and trustworthy Deity that He is, rewarded them handsomely for their trust and painstaking efforts on His behalf. Oh Friends, there’s so much to say in praise of our wonderful God, and we’ve only covered the first aspect of Moses’ tribute, ‘THE ROCK.’ I wouldn’t dare to judge which attribute is the most important, but ‘THE ROCK’ is definitely a solid place to start. That idea of strength, steadfastness, immovability, sure lends comfort to an unsteady, wavering, uncertain soul. Let’s lean on Him Friends, with all our being. That’s His avowed objective; His heart’s greatest desire. Nothing makes our God happier than His children sincerely waiting, looking to and depending on Him. Much LOVE!…lean on me…when you’re not strong…and I’ll give you strength…to carry on…lean on me…O lean on me… To be continued.
