Today’s Scrip-Bit 20 January 2009 Deuteronomy 34:9‏

Deuteronomy 34:9    And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom for Moses had laid his hands upon him: and the children of Israel hearkened unto him, and did as the Lord commanded Moses.

Oh my people, what a blessed day is this Tuesday January 20th, in the Year of Our Lord 2009! What an auspicious and momentous occasion in the annals of mankind, rivalled only by the passing of the leadership torch from Moses to Joshua! This day, like that one, will live on in history, because today, Barack Hussein Obama Jr. will be sworn in as the 44th President of the United States of America, the mightiest and most prosperous nation the Lord has ever showered His mercy upon. He will be the first one with a definite darkness to his complexion to ascend to that lofty position, although it’s been rumoured that a few in the past also had the blood of their African ancestors flowing through their veins, but not reflected in their outward appearance. Obama however has it both on the inside and outside. It irks me though, that all the emphasis is being placed on his African heritage. What about his Caucasian mother and grandparents, the ones who raised him during the most influential period of his life, and who planted the good seed that is now bearing such positive and abundant fruit? Please people, let’s not forget that, for there’s method to the Lord’s madness, else why would he bundle in the same human; African and Caucasian ancestors, humble origins with exalted educational opportunities, both Christian and Muslim sensibilities in a diverse melting pot called America in its most dire time of need? It is also of major significance that the entire world has seemingly rallied around him. Undoubtedly my Friends, he is the leader the Lord has chosen for our time, just like He chose Joshua when He took Moses to His bosom. Also like Joshua, the spirit of wisdom is upon Obama. ‘And the Lord said unto Moses, Take thee Joshua, the son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and lay thine hand upon him. And thou shalt put some of thine honour upon him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel may be obedient.’ (Num.27:18,20) That’s not all; listen to Isaiah’s declaration: ‘And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.’ (Isa.11:2) Obama does seem to reflect all those attributes. But so far we’ve only accomplished the easy part; electing Obama. The hard part is yet to come, in fact it will begin right after he’s sworn in. Then, my friends, brethren, people, whomever and wherever you are around the world, it will greatly behove us to fervently follow and obediently hearken to his leadership, as the Israelites did with Joshua, for the Lord has given us another chance. Yes people, in His ultimate wisdom, mercy and loving-kindness the Lord has made a way for us, just when it seemed like there was none. Today my Friends, we are encamped on the banks of the Jordan, gazing hopefully and wistfully across at the Promised Land, so it’s only fitting that we hear some of the last words of wisdom from Moses to the Israelites, who, unfortunately for him, because of his nation’s continual disobedience to God’s directives, never set foot on the other side of the Jordan. ‘And Moses came and spake all the words of this song in the ears of the people, he, and Hoshea (Joshua) the son of Nun.’ (Deut.32:44) Moses first praised the God of his fathers: ‘ascribe ye greatness unto our God. He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are of judgement: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.’ (Deut.32:3-4) Then he went on to tell them about their history with the Lord; His goodness and mercy, but too often their disobedience. Nevertheless, since the Lord had considered them His chosen people, he had looked after them as promised, and brought them safely thus far. At the end, Moses then warned them: ‘Set your hearts unto all the words which I testify among you this day, which ye shall command your children to observe to do, all the words of this law. For it is not a vain thing for you; because it is your life: and through this thing ye shall prolong your days in the land, whither ye go over Jordan to possess it.’ (Deut.32:46-47) Oh Friends, if those words ever needed to be repeated it’s today, because what’s happening is not futile, it can’t be, cause it’s our life, and we’ve mercifully been given a second chance. So let’s grab hold of it nuh, and observe, with great strength of purpose, and all diligence in our work, our obedience to the Lord’s will and fervent prayer and support of our new leadership. It’s the only way we will survive and again prosper, in the land once overflowing with milk and honey that the Most High God Jehovah has so graciously bestowed upon us. Much LOVE!…we shall overcome…we shall overcome…this day…
