Today’s Scrip-Bit 17 February 2009 Psalm 48:14‏

Psalm 48:14    For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death.

Oh Friends what an awesome statement of faith and assurance! It brooks no doubt whatsoever. ‘For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death;’ is a simple statement of fact. No ifs, ands, buts or maybes, just a sure sign of conviction from deep within our hearts. Isaiah testifies to that: ‘And the Lord shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.’ (Is.58:11) And all God’s people sang: ‘Hallelujah! Amen!’ Yes my Friends, that’s the kind of faith and trust we have in our God. But what gives us that faith and trust, what makes us utter such a provocative and electrifying statement? Because of all the promises He’s made and kept. For all the good things He’s done for us in the past, is presently doing and will continue to do till time immemorial. Because of His excellent track record in guiding the affairs of men. The Insurance companies claim you’re in safe hands with them. The Banks claim their vaults are stronger and safer than Fort Knox. But unfortunately they’ve just proven that their claims to trust and safety are totally untrue because most of them over-reached, over extended themselves and are now paying the acid price for trusting in the wisdom of men. But my people, Our God, the great God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob can never be over-reached or over extended, for he is Alpha and Omega; the First and the Last; the Beginning and the End; He’s the Creator, the Planner and the Guide; from Him all things flow. He’s constantly showing us signs and wonders, individually as well as globally. For example, that fireball that blasted through the Texas sky a couple days ago. That was certainly our God’s doing. Why? Who knows? Maybe just to keep us on our toes. But if you don’t believe what you hear and what you think you see, then read His chronicled Word; the Good Book, the Bible, the best selling, longest lasting and most controversial book ever written. There must be something sacrosanct, a holy aura, about a book that’s been burnt and torn asunder innumerable times, translated and retranslated, with several versions still alive and kicking, also been printed in numerous languages, plus been blamed for a combination of wars, famines, prosperity and good times. One tome could not be so hated, loathed, disliked and detested on one hand, while on the other it’s treasured, LOVED, revered, honoured and considered to be the holy dictates of the Most High God Jehovah himself. There must be something inherently powerful in it to stir such intense passions and kindle such mighty movements on either side of the spectrum. Friends, please remember that our God is the Supreme Being, the Ruling Deity of the universe; therefore His intelligence and His machinations are way superior to ours, so we can’t possibly always comprehend what He’s up to. In relation to Him, we’re like the ant is to us; small, but certainly not insignificant. We’re His most magnificent and treasured creation, that’s why He cares so deeply for us and puts up with so much of our sinful nonsense, just like we have a higher threshold of forgiveness to our offspring than unrelated people. It’s all because of that great word, describing the greatest emotion; LOVE. That’s the nature of our God. And how does the dictionary describe that monumental emotion; LOVE? ‘The feeling which animates a person who is genuinely fond of someone or something; a mother’s LOVE for her child, affection, attachment, devotion, fondness: In other words, a strong bond of good feeling. And my brethren, that’s exactly what our God, Creator and Saviour bears towards us. Now, in return for that considerable amount of care and concern, we ought to reciprocate that feeling through our adoration for His Magnificence and Majesty; worship for His Holiness; loyalty and allegiance for His Faithfulness, with a deep yearning to hear His Word and a passion, enthusiasm, fervour and zeal to spread it and walk obedient to it. That’s why Bruh Paul so ardently declared; ‘And now abideth, faith, hope and LOVE, these three; but the greatest of these is LOVE.’ (1 Cor.13:13) Oh my friends, people, brethren, fellow believers, and all you unbelievers too, LOVE is truly the greatest. The songwriter knew it when he penned the words, ‘LOVE makes the world go round.’ That’s the gospel truth! And people, no discussion of the greatest emotion is ever complete without the mention of the most famous, most superlative, most supreme LOVE story ever enacted, even surpassing all the others put together. This one is simply the greatest! That of our God sending His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ to earth to die for our sins. That’s how much our God LOVES us! That’s why we can say with great faith and assurance; ‘For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death.’ Oh my people, I hope that this Bit touches everybody in some way that brings them closer to our God, as it did me, for I had no idea what I was going to write when I chose the scripture, but I just followed His guidance and wrote it straight from the heart. Now I finally understand when it’s claimed that the scriptures are inspired writings. For them we should always be thankful, and reciprocate that concern by living our lives in obedience to them. Much LOVE!…there’s only ONE GOD…but He’s more than enough…to fulfill and satisfy all our needs and desires…
