Exodus 20:17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbour’s.
Ah mih Friends, all yuh think it easy nuh? But it ain’t easy nuh. If unoo think I had a hard time deciding on a Bit yesterday for this envy, jealousy business, well today it even worse. Why? Because yesterday the ole fella didn’t remember about covet, and coveting and covetousness. And is a good thing too, since it just add a whole new dimension to the already overwhelming situation. Like the ole fella in his essence today. (smile) But, guided by the Sprit as usual, I finally decided to just go right back to the beginning; right back to them Ten Commandments the Lord gave His chosen people when He rescued them from slavery in Egypt. But yuh ever notice mih people, that out of those ten directives, only two positive; ‘Remember the Sabbath, and Honour thy father and mother.’ The other eight all begin with ‘thou shalt not.’ Now who knows why the Lord set them up that way eh? Possibly because in man’s early days ‘God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.’ (Gen.6:5-8) Can you imagine that though? From the beginning, mankind has been evil and revelled in wickedness. How ungrateful! It must surely have broken the Lord’s heart to destroy His wonderful creations. But luckily for us, Noah found grace in His sight and He didn’t wipe out everybody. He’s such a LOVING God and Father, that He decided to save a few and give us another chance. Fat lotta good that did Him, cause we ended up right back where we’d left off; evil and wicked as sin. But our God is so wonderful, He decided to try a different tack: Instead of destroying His handiwork again, He would choose a special group, give them some rules to live by, and use them as an example for how He desired us to live. So He chose the Israelites, gave them the Ten Commandments, and the rest is history; a history of idolatry, disobedience, evil; you name it. Whatever He told them not to do, that’s exactly what they did. And one of the worse things was the covetousness, because that leads us to commit all the other don’ts; stealing, adultery, lying and idolatry. For as James says; ‘Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, the spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?’ (James 4:5) That’s our natural spirit, not the Holy Spirit, and he’s referring to Gen.6:5 that we just read. Jesus didn’t mince words either when He said; ‘Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.’ (Luke 15:5) James also knew the reality: ‘For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.’ (James 3:16) Yes my people, where there’s envy, there’s always strife, which leads to confusion, and thereafter, destruction. And though we’ve been warned about the dangers of the green-eyed monster since day one, we’ve never obeyed that Tenth Commandment, but have instead built our society on the evil, foolish and porous foundation of envy, jealousy and covetousness. Now we’re paying the price. Our house of cards eventually tumble down, and the seeds of envy; the vines of strife, greed and confusion have grown so tall and thick, that they’re now strangling us. The constant clamour for more, for bigger, faster, now for now, has finally taken its toll. Envy and greed have been so ingrained in our society that too many of us were willing to do anything to satisfy those negative emotions. But my Friends, greed and envy are two things that are never ever satisfied. And we have the perfect example in the Bonus controversy that recently erupted. It’s so mind boggling that some of the same people who caused the disaster in the first place with their fraudulent dreams and schemes, are now being paid millions of dollars of taxpayer’s bailout money. It just shows the level of greed, selfishness and egotism that exists. They may be owed the money by legal contract, but they certainly don’t deserve it morally or ethically. And deh so boldface with it too! Instead of just letting it slide, with all the turmoil that’s happening, an’ so much poor people lose deh work, deh house, deh savings an’ otherwise, they still take it an open up a whole new can of worms. And then to try and justify the nonsense, they calling it, ‘Retention Bonus.’ Hn! What a joke! Why would I pay to keep them crooks who can’t even run a good scam eh? Steups! They should be fired and jailed! Throw away the blooming key too! Sorry Friends, but ah can’t handle greedy, boldface, stupid people. And sadly, none of these greedy fools who defrauded the world will ever even see one day of jail time. A few lowly fall guys might do a little a time yes, but that’s normal. But yuh know jail even too good for some of them. It should be like long time; bring them out in the square every Monday morning and put a good flogging on them. That’s the decent version. Ah vex, but ah have to smile, because since it suppose to be a godly forum, ah can’t say what ah really want to say. An’ all yuh doh tell me no chupidness bout violence doh work either nuh, because that is the only thing some of us understand. Anyway mih Friends, tomorrow is another day, and the Good Lord willing, we going to continue this. Till then; Much LOVE!…as 3 Canal say…stop minding other people business…an’ mine yuh own nuh…you’ll be better off…
