Today’s Scrip-Bit 19 November 2009 Psalm 33:8‏

Psalm 33:8     Let all the earth fear the Lord: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.

Once more unto the breach, dear Friends in Christ, once more! Yes Friends, we’ve been given yet another glorious opportunity to make a difference in the world, on behalf of our Redeemer, Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. And we had better do so, otherwise our rewards in heaven will be very stingy. (smile) But seriously though mih people, Today’s Bit is one of the most important statements in the entire Bible. ‘Let all the earth fear the Lord: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.’ And so we should, because He’s one mighty and awesome God. Look at the heaps of praise, adoration, money and time we waste on the humans we call celebrities, many of whom don’t know the first thing about life. But our most magnificent God, we relegate to a non-entity status, lower than the same miserable celebs whom He both made and elevated. Now doesn’t that just disgust you Friends? It surely should, if we’re into honouring man before God. Anyway, let’s see if we can’t change that perspective. Psalm 33 is a song of praise to the Lord for His wonderful creation, and rightly points out why we should reverence and be in awe of Him. ‘By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth…For he spake and it was done; he commanded, and it stood still.’ (Ps.33: 6,9) Friends, just the fact that He created this beautiful planet, Mother Earth, and all that is within, around, over and under it, should be cause enough for our hearts, minds, bodies and souls to burst with reverential wonder and respect. But when you add His method of creation, which was simply to speak the world into existence. Oh mih people, it’s…! I tried to find words to convey a higher degree of reverence, awe and astonishment, but could  not find any to truly describe that amazing action. Now just try yuh best to imagine this scene nuh, although it’s really unimaginable with our limited mental scope. ‘In the beginning God created the heaven and earth.'(Gen.1:1) Wow! There was nothing, then suddenly the heaven and earth appeared. Mama Mia! That means He created something from nothing! ‘And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon (hovered over) the face of the waters.’ (Gen.1:2) Note what hovered over the waters Friends; the Spirit of God. That means from the very beginning, the Holy Spirit was involved in creating and running God’s dominion. Then what did our most omnipotent God do?  ‘And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.’ (Gen.1:3) What an awesome moment that must been eh mih Friends! A world suddenly transformed from total darkness to blazing light. We all have experienced the sudden shock to our systems when we enter a dark room and switch on a light. A momentary blindness descends upon us. Thankfully there was no one around to see and feel the blinding effects of the first light. No human can match those amazing feats my people, that’s why we should show a much deeper appreciation for the Lord’s powers. And it’s exactly why John lauded: ‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.’ (John 1:1-2) He’s referring to Christ there. We can therefore see that the Father had his plans all worked out from the get go. His Spirit was used to create the world and run it. Hence His famous pronouncement: ‘Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.’ (Zech.4:6) Then when things went awry, His Son Jesus, physically redeemed and saved it from hellfire and damnation. Now wouldn’t you consider that a most mighty and brilliant Deity? I sure would. But what really amazes me the most is the fact that our God just spoke whatever He wanted into existence. Can you imagine how neat that would be, if we could just talk whatever we wanted into existence? But sadly, I believe too many of us would just run amuck on creating the treasures of the world, like money and power, and there’d be even more confusion than now. But moving on, let’s note the one essential difference in God’s creation of man, versus everything else. He SPOKE all the other things into existence. But with man, whom He desired to be a reflection of Himself, He got down and dirty. He became a potter, so that he could feel, handle and mould His creation with the LOVING care it required and deserved. ‘And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.’ (Gen.2:7) Oh Friends, doesn’t that show the high regard in which God held our creation? It wasn’t impersonal, like a conveyor belt line, but a custom job. He personally formed us of the earth, in the shape He desired, then put His mouth to our nostrils and breathe life into us. Now isn’t that something to be very thankful for? I certainly think so. We treat our children’s birth with much regard, wanting only the best for them, and expect them to appreciate our efforts when they grow up. So does the Lord with us. And when our children don’t fulfill our purposes for them, we feel let down and disappointed. God feels the same way when we don’t perform up to scratch, and sometimes like we do with our children, punishes us to bring us back to the straight and narrow. Oh Friends, I have to chuckle cause it’s one of those times when the Spirit took hold of me and I had no choice but to follow where it lead. I do hope though, that in some form and fashion, I was able to bring into focus the true greatness of the God we worship, and how His heartstrings are negatively affected when we don’t follow His programme. I truly believe that if we accept the Creation Theory, then we should be bubbling over with joy and just dying to please such an awesome, wonderful Deity; who is so full of LOVE, kindness, mercy, forgiveness, justice, generosity and all the things we desire to live a good, full life. Oh Friends, in light of the foregoing, let’s show our thanks, gratitude, appreciation of His awesome majesty, power and goodness to the sons of men through our worship and praise. Let’s ‘Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise (shout of joy). For the word of the Lord is right; and all his works are done in truth.’ (Ps.33:3-4) Much LOVE!…Honour, Esteem, Respect, Adoration, Reverence, Veneration, Admiration, Wonder, Worship, Wonderment and LOVE…all these are due…to our God…
