Today’s Scrip-Bit 7 September 2011 James 4:10‏

James 4:10.    Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

Ah Friends, it’s another day in the life, filled with new mercies and blessings from our wonderful God! Let us give thanks for the privilege of seeing it, and pray for all those who are experiencing difficulties, especially those people in Texas who are being besieged by out of control forest fires. Ah Lord eh! When it’s not one thing, it’s another. Some places are suffering the disastrous effects of flooding; too much water, while others bear the brunt of raging fire; with not enough water to quench it. However, as believers, we must remember that God is still in control, His plans for the universe He created still rule, and though we may not like them, possibly because they’re rough on us, we have to stand in faith and believe that He knows best. His thinking and ways are much higher than ours, so we won’t understand all that He does; we just have to trust, to accept that everything will finally work out for good, for all that LOVE Him, and are called to do His will. (Rom.8:28) Now here’s an interesting quote from my ‘I LOVE YOU’ Poster: ‘True wealth is what you are, not what you have.’ And that’s the living truth my people! The world judges our wealth by our worldly possessions, but the possession of things is not a true judge of wealth, for they can be easily lost, stolen, destroyed or plain rot away. But who you really are; your character, your integrity, your behaviour, your lifestyle, your godliness and righteousness, from those, can much truer reflections and assessments of our real wealth be made. That’s because those things don’t fade, or wither, or get destroyed, or die. And above all Friends, if we’re humble in the Lord, then we’re truly wealthy, for as our Bit so rightly says: ‘Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.’ There’s no denying that fact, my brethren! The Lord won’t raise us up unless we have a spirit that’s humble in His sight. A proud, arrogant, know it all spirit will never make it in the Lord’s kingdom. But unfortunately too many believers today are caught in that old trap of a prideful spirit and an independent, rebellious heart, where we preach God, but live like the world. But there is yet hope for those of us who think we’re above following God’s law. As Eliphaz told his friend Job, while accusing him of great sin: ‘When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up (exaltation); and he shall save the humble person. He shall deliver the island of the innocent (the one who is not innocent): and it is delivered by the pureness of thine hands.’ (Job 22:29-30) Yes my people, that’s the kind, considerate and caring God that we serve and worship. He is very interested in His fallen children, not wanting to lose any to Beelzebub. For as Jesus said: ‘They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.’ (Mark 2:17) And we’ll end with some very pertinent words from Peter: ‘Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.’ (1 Pet.5:6-7) Oh Friends, that’s an infallible truth! And it’s repeated over and over again throughout the Good Book and finally exemplified by Jesus dying to free us from sin.. But until we truly take it to heart and act like we believe it, our lives will always be turmoil filled. So let’s put our heads and hearts together and truly believe that our Creator and God LOVES us nuh. He’s shown it in so many ways, but we still allow ourselves to be fooled and spoiled by the evil lusts of our sinful flesh. We need to change that as soon as possible, if we are to truly benefit from His never-ending grace and mercy. Much LOVE!…if you believe God cares for you…then you need to humble yourself before Him…
