Daniel 9:8. O my God, incline thine ear, and hear; open thine eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city which is called by thy name: for we do not present our supplications before thee for our righteouesnesses, but for thy great mercies.
Oh Friends, in many parts of the world, but not in my area due to their southerly migration for the winter, the birds and insects are happily singing and chirping, welcoming the bright new day with song and praise to their Creator. So if these lesser creations can so gloriously honour their Maker, why can’t we humans, the cream of creation, do the same eh? And since today is Sunday, honoured by the majority as the Lord’s Day, it is only fitting that as many believers as possible should venture forth to the House of the Lord to offer thanks and praise as a sterling group, to show the ONE TRUE God that we are indeed appreciative and very grateful for His unwavering unconditional LOVE, constant blessings and tender mercies. It’s only right that we should do so. Now here’s another tidbit on hope by Dr. Schuller of the Hour of Power television show. He states: ‘Great people are ordinary people who just will not give up hope. And what is Hope? It is Holding On, Praying Expectantly.’ Please note that the bold type of the first letter of each word, spells HOPE! So Friends, in this crazy, wicked, ungodly, sinful world, let’s hold on and pray expectantly in hope nuh. It’s the only answer to our world’s overwhelming dilemma. As Daniel pleads so anxiously and eloquently in our Bit: ‘O my God, incline thine ear, and hear; open thine eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city which is called by thy name: for we do not present our supplications before thee for our righteousnesses, but for thy great mercies.’ So ought we to humbly invoke God’s compassion my people, not because of our righteousness, which is nowhere as good as it should be, but because of His ever-LOVING kindness and great mercy. And we won’t be the first people to do so. We have a good example in Hezekiah, king of Judah, who, on having received bombastic messages from the pagan king of Assyria, Sennacherib, that he was planning to invade Judah, first asks Isaiah to pray to the Lord for guidance. Isaiah tells him not to worry, the Lord will look after it. (Is.37:3-7) Hezekiah himself then goes into the Lord’s house and prays thus: ‘O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, that dwellest between the cherubim, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made heaven and earth. Incline thine ear, O Lord, and hear; open thine eyes, O Lord, and see: and hear all the words of Sennacherib, which hath sent to reproach the living God. Of a truth, Lord, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations, and their countries, And have cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them. Now therefore, O Lord our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the Lord, even thou only.’ (Is.37:16-20) Yes Friends, it was easy for Sennacherib to defeat those other nations because their gods were man made idols, but when he came up against the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, it was an entirely different story. This is the Lord’s answer through Isaiah: ‘Therefore thus saith the Lord concerning the king of Assyria. He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shields, nor cast a bank against it (build a siege mound). By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the Lord. For I will defend this city to save it for mine own sake, and for my servant David’s sake. Then the angel of the Lord went forth, and smote (killed) in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand: and when they (the people of Judah) arose early in the morning, behold, they (the Assyrians) were all dead corpses.’ (Is.37:33-36) Wow people! What a mighty God we worship! Yes Friends, sincere prayer is still capable of working miracles. The Lord did it for Judah, no reason why He shouldn’t do it for us now, for He does see our desolations, our pitiful nature, and the terrible state of his city Jerusalem. Like He said to Moses at the burning bush; ‘I have surely seen the afflictions of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows (pain).’ (Ex.3:7)Yes my brethren, all things are possible working in concert with our most LOVING, faithful and omnipotent God, but we first have to turn to Him in sincere prayer and live godly, faith-filled lives, otherwise all our pleas will fall on deaf ears in heaven. In closing, let me reiterate Friends, turning to Jehovah God and living the way He desires is not rocket science, but simple common sense. History is littered with many powerful nations who bit the dust when they refused to accept Him as the ONE and ONLY TRUE GOD. So why should our ungodly, sinful society fare any differently eh? Much LOVE!…hope, faith, prayer and righteousness…the catalysts for divine intervention…
