Proverbs 12:10. A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.
Well hello there my wonderful Friends in Christ Jesus! Hope you’re up and about in good health and strong faith. Here’s a piece of a favourite hymn that I read this morning and thought should get us started today. ‘Lord, great is thy faithfulness. Morning by morning new mercies I see. All that I needed thy hand hath provided. Great is thy faithfulness unto me,’ Wow! And since that’s gospel truth, all God’s people declared a loud and grateful: ‘Praise the Name of the Lord God Jehovah, for He is indeed faithful to the undeserving children of men!’ Now, without further ado, let’s turn to our Bit because we have plenty to say. (smile) ‘A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.’ We saw yesterday that it basically meant that righteous folk were kind to animals, while the wicked are unfailingly cruel to them. We also saw where the Lord himself instructed Moses to tell the Israelites not to kill any mama birds and young ones or eggs in the nests, but to let the mother go so that she could replenish the earth with her breed. (Deut.22:6-7) True wisdom my people, for that was an integral part of God’s plan for the earth to replenish and refurbish itself. Later on, Moses also commanded the people: ‘Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out the corn (threshes out the grain).’ (Deut.25:4) That obviously means all animals should be treated with a certain amount of kindness and mercy, especially if they are working to produce food and other stuff for us. The scholars rightly claim that Bruh Paul used that verse to demonstrate that a human labourer was also worth his labour. He says in 1 Cor.9: ‘For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen (Is it oxen God is concerned about)? Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and he that tresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope.’ (1 Cor.9:9-10) And a few verses later he continues his argument for proper rewards for one’s labour: ‘Even so hath the Lord ordained (commanded) that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.’ (1 Cor.9:14) He’s stating there that just like the priests in the Old Testament were remunerated for their priestly duties, likewise the New Testament preachers also have a right to be rewarded for their priestly efforts. And as it pertains to humans also being worthy of their work, that directive also came down from the Lord through Moses, long ago. Leviticus 19, re laws of holiness and justice, boldly proclaims: ‘Thou shalt not defraud thy neighbour, neither rob him: the wages of him that is hired shall not abide with thee all night until the morning.’ (Lev.19:13) Then in Deuteronomy 24, re oppression of servants, Moses reiterates that dictate: ‘Thou shalt not oppress a hired servant that is poor and needy, whether he be of thy brethren, or of thy strangers that are in thy land within thy gates: At his day (each day) thou shalt give him his hire (wages), neither shall the sun go down upon it; for he is poor, and setteth his heart upon it; lest he cry against thee unto the Lord, and it be sin unto thee.’ (Deut.24: 14-15) Jesus also raised the matter in Matthew 10, when he instructs his disciples to preach only to the lost sheep of Israel (only Jews). He tells them: ‘Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses (money-belts), Nor scrip (bag) for your journey, neither two coats (tunics), neither shoes (sandals), nor yet staves (staffs), for the workman is worthy of his meat.’ (Matt.10:9-10) He’s there agreeing with Bruh Paul that a preacher deserves to be well looked after, so they were to rely on the gifts and hospitality of those to whom they preached. Then in Luke 10, where Jesus sends out the seventy disciples to save souls from the plentiful harvest, He instructs them: ‘And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire (wages). Go not from house to house.’ (Luke 10:7) That means Jesus recognized the principle that honest work ought to be paid for honestly, either in cash or in kind. But unfortunately Friends, today that ethic has been thrown by the wayside, because employers now try their very best to pay their employees as little as possible, and many withhold employees wages much longer than necessary. Even the governments are encouraging that travesty by having laws that have no teeth, that grant no real justice to the hard done by employee, thus allowing the employer to take advantage of the poor workers. We see that here in Ontario a lot with seasonal farm workers who come from other countries to harvest crops, and with foreign nannies who have contracts with families. In sickness and accidents, the farm workers are often just sent back home with no real provision for their health, and if they complain too much about their lot, they are usually just fired. The nannies are usually made to work many more hours than stipulated in their contracts, without overtime pay, and sometimes in very poor living conditions. And don’t talk about the illegal immigrants, especially those who can’t speak much English. The employers take terrible advantage of them, and when they complain and ask for their hard earned wages, they are effectively blackmailed with threats to report them to the Immigration authorities. And taking your case to the courts or tribunals set up to handle these matters is usually too expensive in both time and money for the already disadvantaged worker. So many just shut up and bear their burdens quietly. And the sad part is that the ones who engage in these illicit, inhumane practices are usually the ones who can afford to pay a decent wage. No wonder why man’s inhumanity to man makes millions mourn! The governments know that these injustices are being perpetrated, but they don’t truly care, because many of the guilty are their friends, families and associates. But Friends, one thing is sure; the purveyors of wickedness will eventually get their comeuppance! If not in this life, then for certain in the next. God has promised it, and we know He’s faithful. And we’ll close with a verse from Bruh Paul to Timothy, where, as he’s wont to do, he puts Old and New Testament scripture together to make his point. ‘For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward (wages).’ (1 Tim.5:18) There he successfully quotes both Moses and Jesus. Please Friends, let’s not lose hope in this evil and ungodly world. Remember that we’re the light of the world and the salt of the earth, and if we persevere to the end, we’ll be well rewarded. Much LOVE!…cruelty to any of God’s creations…man or beast…will eventually bring forth justice…from our righteous God…

Oh Friends, oh Friends, please listen to me this morning. From now until forever, if you or any of your family members are leaving anywhere to go out on the roads, the killing fields we call highways, please hug and kiss each other and totally express your LOVE for each other, for in these crazy times you might not be able to do it again, except to a lifeless body in a funeral home. I’m saying this because I got a scare yesterday morning. About forty-five minutes after the Duchess left home to go to work, I got a call saying that she was in an accident. Luckily it was only a bumper bender and she wasn’t injured, but with these things you never know, for when metal, or rather fibreglass hits fibreglass, anything is possible. Apparently someone ran in to the back of the car behind her, and in the dark, rainy morning stop and go traffic, that one then ran into the back of her car. The saddest part of this whole story Friends is that my wife was going to work a little earlier than normal so she could relieve a co-worker to attend a funeral for one of her friends. Apparently this friend’s car conked out on her on the highway, everything was dead, not even the emergency flashers were working. It seems she called her husband who advised her to call 911, and he would come to get her. But lo and behold, by the time the poor man got there, a large garbage truck had already run over her little Volkswagen Passat and claimed her fairly young life. Ah Lord eh! It’s a sad fact that Ontario is a car producing province, which means we’re in the business of selling as many cars as possible, but that also means there are also way too many cars on our roads, with too many inexperienced, doh care drivers. Just to put that in perspective, the Duchess said that there were four other accidents in the same vicinity and time as hers, probably caused by motorists looking at another accident on the other side of the highway. Why do we do that eh? I see it all the time; the side of the road with the accident is moving faster than the other side, because all the people over there are slowing down to gawk and stare at the accident. That only causes more accidents! Ah mih people, I don’t know the answers to all the questions I’m posing here, but I do know that we do need some good answers, and we need them quickly too, otherwise our highways will get even worse than they are right now. Anyone on the highway these days is in serious danger; what with the speeding drivers changing lanes so unsafely and stupidly. Just last week I saw one cut across three lanes, from the fast lane to the slow, then cut back across to the fast, only to get a couple of car lengths ahead of his original position. And when yuh really need Babylon (the police) to be patrolling the highways and curb some of these excesses, they are never around. Then there are the tires that fall of the big trucks, jump over guard rails and into innocent persons windshields, or the fully loaded transport truck that falls over an overhead bypass and crushes another innocent victim on the road below. Or the drunk driver, going the wrong way and eventually crashing headlong into a van going the right way, killing most of the family members. And there are all sorts of other highway accident stories, many of which could have been prevented, but unfortunately were not, causing untold tragedy to many families. So my people, I implore us to truly get connected with the family members and friends we dearly LOVE, and share that LOVE and intimacy as often and as long as possible, because in this current rat race we so nicely term life, we never know if and when, we’ll ever see them alive again, when one or all of us go through the doors of our homes, work or playgrounds on to the death traps we call roads. And having gotten all of that off my chest, let’s look at our Bit: ‘A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.’ Basically what that means my brethren is that a righteous man is kind to animals, while a wicked man is cruel to the dumb animals in his charge. In fact, some people treat their animals better than they do their children or other family members. Now we should note that the edicts for treating animals kindly came down long ago from the Lord Himself, through Moses. Listen to him. ‘If a bird’s nest chance to be before thee in the way in any tree, or on the ground, whether they be young ones, or eggs, and the dam (mother) sitting upon the young, or upon eggs, thou shalt not take the dam with the young. But thou shalt in any wise let the dam go, and take the young with thee; that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest prolong thy days.’ (Deut.22:6-7) According to the scholars, the prohibition forbidding the taking of both mother and young, or eggs from the nest was designed to protect the food supply of the Israelites. Yuh see Friends, there was a lot of wise and brilliant planning that went into the design our world, it just didn’t explode with all it’s wonders from thin air, as some would have us believe. Anyway, since I understand that our attention spans are barely three minutes long now, and getting shorter, (smile) we’ll conclude here for today, since the rest of what I have to say on this topic will definitely run too long. So tomorrow, God willing, we’ll continue with it. Till then, please walk safely with the Lord, and remember to hug and kiss all those you LOVE and cherish, truly let them know the depths of your feelings for them. 3 John 4. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
And a blessed good morning to all you beautiful people out there in Scrip-Bit Land! It’s supposed to be cool and rainy in my neck of the woods today, (it’s already raining) but that’s of no importance. Why, you ask? Because just like neither sleet nor snow stops the mail delivery, so nothing stops the followers of Jesus on their earthly mission to spread the good news of the gospel to all and sundry. And what’s the good news? The peace, LOVE, mercy, forgiveness, compassion, truth, justice, wisdom, understanding, salvation and eternal life that’s found in Jesus and His humble but ever so powerful way! And all God’s people shouted a joyous: ‘Glory Hallelujah!’ But the truth of the matter my Friends is that it’s not always easy to follow in Jesus’ path, for Lucifer and his evil minions have made believers the number one target of their wicked and ungodly fiery darts. Today though, I have a few words to share from the Hour of Power Devotional by Robert H. Schuller which will help us in repelling Lucifer and his evil works. The words are: ‘If you will learn how to be disappointed without being discouraged, you need never be defeated.’ What an awesome truth Friends! And when I read them today, a flashlight just went off in my brain, and I knew I had to share them. It’s a simple but powerful strategy, for what’s the first thing or thought we embrace when we experience disappointment? It’s discouragement, oftimes laced with a strong desire to just give up, to let it all go to waste. But my people, that’s the wrong attitude to adopt, for disappointment doesn’t always mean failure or defeat, and if we truly learn to endure disappointment without it making us want to throw away all our hard work, then we’re winning. Believers need to have what the old people called ‘a thick skin.’ That means not letting unimportant things get us down or all worked up. I’m learning that with writing this Scrip-Bit, because not everybody agrees with or like what I write. And believe you me, supposed believers can be the nastiest critics when they’re ready. However, please remember that giving up on Jesus is NOT an option in a believer’s playbook! Those words don’t exist in Jesus’ vocabulary, which means we have to stand strong and steadfast regardless of what or who comes against us. That’s why John so happily declared in our Bit: ‘I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.’ He was exceedingly happy to hear that his buddy Gaius was standing strong and true in the faith. And he also expresses that joy in his second epistle, where he begins thus: ‘The elder unto the elect (chosen) lady and her children; whom I LOVE in the truth; and not I only, but also they that have known the truth. For the truth’s sake, which dwelleth (abides) in us, and shall be with us for ever.’ (2 John 1-2) Now the ‘elder’ there is John himself, and according to the scholars, the ‘elect (chosen) lady’ could either mean a personal friend and her family or a local church. Now, re the truth John speaks of, it will be helpful to have some explanation from the scholars. They declare that: ‘To LOVE in the truth means (1) truly, really to LOVE, and (2) to LOVE in a fashion consonant with the Christian meaning of that word. The truth which John and others have known is a combination of factual knowledge regarding the Word of God and personal knowledge of Jesus Christ.’ Also, ‘John LOVES his readers for the truth’s sake or “because of the truth,” which likely has reference to the personal presence of Christ (John 14:6) The cardinal fruit of the Spirit of Christ is LOVE (Gal..5:22)’ Then a couple verses later, John states: ‘I rejoiced greatly that I found (some) of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.’ (2 John 4) Listen to the scholars here again: ‘Walking is a Jewish idiom for “living.” John is saying that we should “live by the truth,” or in accordance with God’s revealed word and will.’ That’s gospel my brethren! How else can we live for God if we don’t live by His Word and His Will eh? It’s just like living in any group, be it two or more; certain rules and regulations must be laid down and followed, if there is to be harmony and not anarchy in the group. Likewise if there’s to be harmony amongst the followers of Jesus, then we all need to live in close agreement and joyful practice of His dictates. And not to be outdone, when Bruh Paul couldn’t go to visit the Thessalonians, he also told them of his happiness at their steadfastness in the faith. ‘For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming? For ye are our glory and joy.’ (1 Thess.2:19-20) Yes my brethren, all believers should be filled with unspeakable joy when they hear of others walking steadfastly in the LIGHT and LOVE of Jesus, for that’s what this life is all about. And what better way to end than with the words of Jesus. When Pilate asked Him if He was a king, Jesus answered: ‘Thou sayest (rightly) that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth, heareth my voice.’ (John 18:37) End of story Friends! So now, if we have indeed heard Jesus’ voice, then let’s go out and sincerely and energetically live that truth nuh! Much LOVE!…to truly LOVE Jesus…we must walk steadfastly in His way…just like He walked steadfastly in His Father’s…

3 John 4. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
Oh Friends, let’s rise and shine this glorious Monday morning like the brilliant sun that’s peeping over the horizon. That’s with a strong sense of purpose; a sense of purpose that dictates we’ll live as best we can for Christ today! Let’s quickly dispel the grumbling, grouchiness, dismay, anxiety and blues that come rolling around every Monday morning when we have to get up and face the boring, exasperating music of work again. Most of us have no choice but to labour for a living, so let’s ditch the negatives that rise up against us every Monday, and instead grab hold of the positives, like we’ll be able to pay the mortgage and car loans, plus clothe and feed our children, and hopefully pay the million and one other bills that need to be paid. So with all that in mind, let’s sing our Monday Morning Battle Hymn. And though some of you are just getting up, and your voices are still croaky with sleep, (smile) let’s give it our best shot. As one harmonious choir now: ‘Oh Lord God Almighty, Creator of the universe and all therein! We, your humble servants, praise your Holy Name and thank you that this Monday morning we have jobs to go to; jobs we don’t like, jobs that are unfair, difficult and even dangerous, but which serve a useful purpose here on earth; keeping lives and families together. We also thank you Father for the renewed vitality and enthusiasm you’ve wrought in our weary souls over the last two days. It’s that rejuvenation of Spirit which allows us now to sally forth with confidence into the evil, ungodly world that surrounds us, to begin a new week of work, constantly buffeted and bombarded by the enemy’s wicked taunts, wiles and lies. But heavenly Father, we’re not afraid, for we know we’re invincible, sure conquerors, once we’re wearing your powerful, protective spiritual armour. We surrender our all to you, and humbly ask that you let your incredible aura of LOVE, the Holy Spirit, lead and guide all your servants as we go out to meet the enemy in battle. Fill us with steadfast faith, so that we can make worthwhile inroads into the enemy’s ranks, and thereby further your glorious kingdom. We pray this in the Holy Name of your Son, and our Saviour, Jesus Christ. AMEN!’ Now that’s my people! The angels were jealous, and Jesus was real proud! So please keep the enthusiasm going, even when the adrenalin returns to normal. And our Bit blends in quite nicely with all that’s gone before: ‘I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.’ Here in his third epistle, John’s writing to a close friend, Gaius, whom he truly cherishes, and wishes to prosper both in physical and spiritual health. He continues by telling of his great joy on hearing the news of Gaius’ steadfastness – he both talked the talk and walked the walk. (3 John 1-3) And having that wonderful news sink into his soul, John declares the glorious words of our Bit, which are so heart-warming that we shall repeat them. ‘I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.’ John isn’t speaking of his own children, (don’t know if he had any) but generally of those whom he helped to come to Christ. To him, nothing could be more beautiful and fulfilling than to hear that they were still walking the straight and narrow path. And no doubt all of us will feel the same about any persons whom we helped in their walk with Christ. But Friends, now I want to go even one step further and solemnly declare that for a believer, there’s no joy comparable to that of hearing that our children, our own flesh and blood are walking steadfastly in and with Christ, the way we taught them! Wow! Nothing can be more rewarding than that my brethren! Yuh hear that mih children? (smile) There’s no greater joy you can bring to the ole fella’s heart than to know that you are walking and talking in true faith as your mother and I endeavoured to teach you, but which first began with your Grandmother Molly. It brings to mind, Bruh Paul’s reminder to Timothy. ‘When I call to remembrance the unfeigned (genuine) faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.’ (2 Tim.1:5) So please don’t make me a liar children. (smile) Oh Friends, I’m sure you all will agree that there’s no greater blessing a Christian parent can take to his or her grave, than that of knowing their offspring is walking faithfully in the light and truth of Jesus, for that means the gospel will continue to be carried to the whole world, as Jesus commanded, and that the hope for our world to improve will remain strong. Unfortunately though Friends, too many parents of this generation will return to the dust from whence they came without that satisfaction. That is because we have not done such a good job with our children in their early formative years, by teaching them the Word and how to resist temptation when it comes along. So now, too many of them are sadly caught up in the false, glitz, glitter and glamour of the world, on the road to a sad ending, writhing in its vice-like tentacles. That’s why our world is fast slipping into the mire of quicksand that the evil one has laid out for those who foolishly choose to accept his ungodly lifestyle, rather than Jesus’ repentance and salvation based way. But Friends, there’s still hope, because the breath of life still flows through our mortal bodies. But we have to act fast, like RIGHT NOW, working first on those close to us, then on others like our co-workers, to extricate them from the evil tentacles of Lucifer and bring them to the kind, ever-LOVING, peaceful rest, with salvation and everlasting life that’s found under the yoke of Jesus. More on this tomorrow, if life and limb allow. Till then, may the good Lord bless and keep us safely as we go out into this wicked world to work on His behalf. Much LOVE!…saving souls from eternal perdition…that’s why Jesus came to earth…the same is required of His followers…

Proverbs 14:34. Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.
Oh my fellow believers in Christ, may grace and peace from our heavenly Father flood our souls this bright and bountiful Sunday morning! And may He also guide and comfort us in all our doings this day. And for those of us who celebrate the Sabbath on Sunday, one of the best ways to get all that wholesome, comforting stuff from the Father is by going to church and fellowshipping with other believers; offering Him much thanks, praise and reverence. Remember there’s always strength in numbers, so the more people that get together to sincerely worship, the louder, and hopefully more receptive will be those activities in heaven. And speaking of acceptance in heaven, let’s hear what our Bit says about that. ‘Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach (shame and disgrace) to any people.’ And isn’t that the awesome truth my Friends! Sin, whether it is from an individual or a nation is unacceptable in the sight of our heavenly Father. However, true righteousness is always welcome in heaven. So Friends, shall we see how the nations of our world stack up against our Bit? I don’t have to tell you that we stack up very poorly. Because our societies are so sinful, evil and ungodly, we are a shame and disgrace to the Lord! His anger is bubbling and calamity is coming our way much more frequently than before. Remember when God was truly an integral part of our society? I guess only the old fogeys can remember that. But back then our nations were exalted. They were prosperous and had peace for lengthy periods of time. And my brethren, that wasn’t so long ago – a half century or so. Back then we were lenders and not borrowers; quite obviously the head and not the tail; sure conquerors too. We were also fairly righteous and succeeding as the psalmist so wisely and truthfully declares: ‘The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon (tall and proud).Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat (plump) and flourishing (green). To show that the Lord is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.’ (Ps.92:12-15) Yuh see Friends, even the old and righteous shall bear fruit in their latter years, because our God is just and faithful, and will not forsake the righteous. And that’s how we were growing my people, because as Psalm 33 proudly proclaims: ‘Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.’ (Ps.33:12) Yes Friends, at one time the nations of the Western Hemisphere were blessed because the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob was truly our God, and we were guided by the dictates of His Holy Word. But then, the same prosperity we received because of our righteousness, turned our heads and hearts away from the ONE TRUE GOD. Our worship and reverence towards Almighty God began to drop off, and we started worshipping the things we made with our own hands, blatantly flouting the Lord’s decrees, which led to officially removing Him from most public places. Then, in accordance with His Word, that peace and prosperity we had enjoyed, slowly began melting away, until we are no longer lenders, but have become the biggest borrowers; we’re slowly moving away from the head towards the tail; we’re no longer conquering heroes, but subservient in many respects, and held up to cheap ridicule in many places. Oh, how have the mighty fallen! But we have no one to blame but ourselves because we clearly had the Israelites as an example, who on several occasions, once they became prosperous, forgot about the God who enabled them to become prosperous and have peace, foolishly believing that it was the work of their own hands and minds. Several times they paid a steep price through invasion, bondage and wandering in the wilderness for forty years. But still they never learned, so stubborn and rebellious was their spirit. And our modern society is following pall mall in their foolish footsteps, without a thought for how it will all end. As Cousin Sol says earlier in Proverbs 11: ‘By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.’ (Prov.11:11) And believe me my brethren, there are many more wicked than upright in our society these days! Jeremiah says it in spades: ‘Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit. Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith the Lord. For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.’ (Jer.2:11-13) Yes Friends, we have exchanged the ONE TRUE GOD for man made idols, which in the long wrong profits us nothing but destruction, and have replaced the fresh, pure living waters of God, for the polluted, contaminated man made vessels that are broken and thus can’t hold water. How wise have we been eh? Oh my people, listen to these words of everlasting truth from Psalm 146, the blessedness of trusting God: ‘Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man (human beings), in whom there is no help (salvation). His breath goeth forth (his spirit departs), he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish. Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God: Which made heaven, and earth, and all that therein is: which keepeth truth for ever.’ (Ps.146:3-6) And if we do that consistently my people, then one day we’ll be able to sing these words from this hymn of praise in Isaiah. ‘In that day shall this song be sung in the land of Judah; We have a strong city; salvation will God appoint for walls and bulwarks. Open ye the gates, that the righteous nation which keepeth the truth shall enter.’ (Is.26:1-2) That’s how it will be in the New Jerusalem, with only spiritual and no physical boundaries. So Friends, let’s make a conscious, serious decision TODAY to turn our society around nuh. If we want our descendants to prosper and have peace, we have to do it NOW, not tomorrow or next week. The wicked is doing his thing, so should we believers with urgency and determination. And we’ll end with some choice words from Bruh Paul to the Philippians, as how we can bring this LOVE Revolution about in our time: ‘Do all things without murmurings (grumbling) and disputings. That ye may be blameless and harmless (innocent), the sons (children) of God, without rebuke (fault), in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation (generation), among whom ye shine as lights in the world.’ (Phil.2:14-15) That’s how we’ll get back in God’s good graces my brethren! Much LOVE!…let your light so shine before men…that they may see your good works…and glorify your Father which is in heaven… (Matt.5:16)

Psalm 90:12. So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
Oh Friends, the ole fella’s starting late this forecasted cool and cloudy Saturday morning, plus he’s tired, although I got lots of rest, and I don’t have a clue about what I’m going to write. (smile) How is that for a start eh? But our God is a good and merciful Deity and has promised not to give us tasks to perform in His Name without the necessary tools to perform them. And I’ve had personal experience in this area for the last how many years, therefore I’m not worried about my lack of info, late start or tiredness. Remember that Jesus also promised that the Holy Spirit will tell us what to say when the time is right, be it in persecution or writing on His behalf. (Matt.10:19-20) So right now I’m depending on those promises, (smile) because I know that our God is faithful and won’t let me down in my time of need. Oh Friends, when is the nonsense going to end eh? When full scale war breaks out? I’m talking about the latest acts of violence against American life and property in the Muslim countries because of a reputedly derogatory video against the prophet Mohammed. Now who in their right senses would produce such a video and upload it to You Tube knowing the reverence lavished on that spiritual leader by his followers, and the fanaticism with which his name is protected, especially at a very sensitive time like this? The fellow in the middle of the production apparently said he wanted to stir up the pot. Well he certainly has! And if the reports are true that he’s a Coptic Christian, can you imagine the problems it will cause those poor folks who are already so badly treated and persecuted in the Muslim countries. Ah Lord eh! Some of us definitely need our heads examined yes, for the last thing we need is a religious backlash and upheaval in these already turbulent times. No wonder in his only Psalm, and therefore the first in the Psalter, Moses pleaded with God in our Bit: ‘So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom (gain a heart of wisdom).’ That video certainly wasn’t an act of wisdom. However he knows that his days are truly numbered now, and has taken to hiding. But as the old people say, you can run, but you can’t hide, and one day they’ll catch up to him and he’ll pay the price for his folly. What makes matter all the worse is that it was done on the anniversary of the bombing of the World Trade Centre. Don’t you think that gave more ammunition to the already highly motivated fanatics to remember and celebrate with more murderous behaviour? Now why is it that we need to know the number of our days before we can seek wisdom eh? That should be a priority from the very start! But I guess mankind likes to push the envelope right to the limit, then try to smarten up just before we reach the end of our leashes. But that ought not to be so my people. I guess the Lord doesn’t let us know our life span, because too many of us would live evil, ungodly lives, then at the last minute repent and plead for mercy. In Psalm 39, A prayer for self-understanding, Bruh David asks the same basic question, but in a slightly different manner. ‘Lord, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am. Behold, thou hast made my days as a handbreadth; and mine age is nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity (vapour).’ (Ps.39:4-5) But Friends, we don’t need to know how frail we are, just to know that we are indeed frail ‘…like grass which groweth up. In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up; in the evening it is cut down, and withereth.’ (Ps.90:5-6) And like Moses lamented over his people Israel so long ago: ‘For they are a nation void of counsel, neither is there any understanding in them. O that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end.’ (Deut.32:28-29) Moses could be talking about our society today, for this current version is so mired in evil and ungodliness that they don’t know whether they are coming or going. Sadly, many of those involved in all the lustful, idol worship and worldly activities that are now so prevalent, don’t have a clue as to what they really are involved in, and what their end will be like if they keep on living that worldly life. That’s because they have no real knowledge of their Creator, or believe the evolution theory, and thus think that they can get away with murder. But Friends, we believers know how wrong they are, and it’s our job to try and wake them up to the reality of the situation. Remember Jesus said that there’d be great joy in heaven over one repentant sinner, more than over ninety nine righteous ones, who need no repentance. (Luke 15:7) And James tells us that for every sinner we bring to repentance, we shall save a soul from death and also hide plenty sins. (James 5:20) So my brethren, please let’s not worry about the number of our earthly days, but instead behave as though today is the last one, and go out into this evil, ungodly world and behave appropriately; that is winning souls for Jesus, with the wisdom we have already received through the power of His Holy Spirit. That’s truly wisdom at its highest! Much LOVE!…Christians ought to revere Jesus as highly as other faiths revere their leaders… P.S. Yuh see, Friends, the Lord was indeed faithful to me. The Bit’s not too late, and it does make some sense. (smile) Much LOVE!

Oh Friends, our wonderful God again blessed my area yesterday with a perfect summer’s day! Wow! All praise and thanks be to You O Lord! But I don’t think today is going to be so nice, because they’re calling for cooler temps and rain. But when has a little rain and some cool weather ever stopped God’s children from joyously shouting on a Friday: ‘TGIF! Thank God it’s Friday?’ Never! That’s because we’re so wrapped up in our Fridays; first because it’s the end of the work week and then it’s also the start of our labour free weekend. However Friends, before we allow our exuberance to aimlessly carry us away, let’s chant our Friday Chant, so that we can keep everything in its right perspective. So with the same enthusiasm that we just shouted, ‘TGIF!’ and ‘Thank God it’s Friday!’ let’s all chant as one. Blow the roof off heaven mih people! (smile) ‘Oh Lord, thanks for getting me safely through another week of work! It hasn’t been easy, but with your generous help, I made it through. Now, please help me to get sufficient fun, fellowship, rest and relaxation in these two short days off, so that I can be renewed and refreshed in soul, body and mind, to go back out and do it all over again next week, furthering your glorious kingdom with each step I take. I pray this in Jesus name. Amen.’ And now that we’ve curbed our aimless enthusiasm with ‘a modicum of circumspection,’ as Jeeves the butler in the P.G. Wodehouse books was wont to say, let’s turn to our Bit. ‘Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.’ Those are certainly words of invaluable truth my people, for that’s how our most just and righteous God has set up His everlasting kingdom. Evil has no place in it; especially for those who return evil for good. Being evil is bad enough, but returning a good favour with evil consequences, is the lowest of the low. Now yesterday we ended with Peter telling us that we should be joyful when we suffer for righteousness sake. (1 Pet.3:13-14) However Friends, we all know it’s rough to suffer injustice and don’t long for some kind of revenge. That’s just our natural human nature. But James tells us this: ‘Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried (has been proved), he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that LOVE him.’ (James 1:12) Accepting evil for good and not making any noise, comes with the territory my brethren. Jesus suffered immeasurable evil for our sakes, but He never complained. Granted we don’t have all the parts that Jesus had, but we can still stand strong in His Holy Name. For you see what’s the end of returning evil for good? Evil will remain forever in the house, the family of that person(s). Now is that a legacy we want to leave our descendants? Absolutely not! And it’s not only Jesus who endured evil for good, but many other faithful followers did too. Hear Jeremiah tell his story: ‘Give heed to me, O Lord, and hearken (listen) to the voice of them that contend with me. Shall evil be recompensed (repaid) for good? for they have digged a pit for my soul (life). Remember that I stood before thee to speak good for (concerning) them, and to turn away thy wrath from them.’ (Jer.18:19-20) Poor Jerry ended up in jail for warning his people about the coming calamity from God if they did not repent of their evil ways. Now listen to Bruh David, who knew a thing or two about suffering evil at the hands of those he treated well, like Saul and his own son Absalom. He declares thus in Psalm 35, a prayer for rescue from enemies: ‘Let their way be dark and slippery: and let the angel of the Lord persecute (pursue) them. For without cause have they hid (hidden) for me their net in a pit, which without cause they have digged for my soul (life) – shades of Jeremiah – …False (fierce) witnesses did rise up; they laid to my charge (asked me) things that I knew not. They rewarded me evil for good to the spoiling (sorrow) of my soul.’ (Ps.35:6-7,11-12) Oh Friends, I know that many of us are still suffering the heartfelt pangs of receiving evil in return for good. But as I tried to show, it’s a part of our heritage, our faith, to suffer, especially on Jesus’ behalf. And though it’s never easy, we have to try and rise above the situation of returning evil for good, and when it happens to us, we have to look at it as a test from God, who has promised to strengthen us in all our misfortunes and also reward us if we stand strong and steadfast in His Word and His Will. And we’ll end with some poignant words from Jesus on the subject. After he told the Jews: ‘I and my Father are one. Then the Jews took up stones to stone him. Jesus answered them. Many good works have I showed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?’ (John 10:30-32) And we think we have it hard! Oh my people, let’s ponder today on the trials and tribulations that Jesus unfairly bore on our behalf, so that we could be reconciled with the Father. Then let’s allow His Holy Spirit to rise up in us and strengthen us, as we make our own difficult pilgrimage through this earthly life. Much LOVE!…but I say unto you which hear…LOVE your enemies…do good to them which hate you…bless them that curse you…and pray for them which despitefully (spitefully) use you… (Luke 6:27-28)

Oh my wonderful Friends in Christ, yesterday turned out to be a beautiful summer’s day in my area, with a warm but not too hot sun, a cool, refreshing breeze and cloudless blue skies. Wow! A perfect summer’s day in any language! And today promises to be a day of the same high calibre. All praise and thanks be to our Most High God Jehovah! Some of you might not understand my enthusiasm for what you consider a normal, ordinary day. But up here in the northern climes we have to cherish and relish those days like gold, since the winter weather will be soon upon us, and the days will become so short and oftimes so dark that you can’t even see the sun, much less feel its warmth. And with the weather being so precarious and unstable these days, you can’t predict with any real surety, what it will be like from one day to the next. So those of you, who have constant sunshine and warmth all year round, please be very thankful for it eh! Don’t add yourselves to the already teeming ranks of those who disregard our Bit. ‘Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.’ I meant there, that God’s giving you good days, but you’re treating His blessings with callous indifference, simply taking it for granted. Ah mih people, evil has become so ingrained and prevalent in our society in the last thirty or so years that it’s mind-boggling. So much so that we take a lot of evil stuff for granted and just do them without thinking. Simply put, the moral fabric of the entire world has just plumb gone to hell in a bucket! When there’s no proper evaluation or even consensus over right and wrong, good and evil, what else can we really expect eh? Some of the things we do now without any pricks of conscience, thirty years ago we wouldn’t even have contemplated them, much less put them into action. Friendship, or what passes for friendship, is not as strong as it once was. We make all sorts of promises just because they are convenient, without ever intending to keep them. We boldly and blatantly curse our parents, leaving them to suffer avoidable pain and sorrow in their old age, being less warm and kind to them than in any other generation in history. We use today’s fast and busy society as an excuse to just dump our parents in an old people’s home and basically forget about them, visiting them once in a blue moon. As our Bit says: How can we not suffer the burning pangs of evil, when we repay kindness with wickedness? That’s our God’s universal and everlasting prescription for such unjust, unrighteous behaviour! In Psalm 109, A prayer for the punishment of the wicked, Bruh David says it thus: ‘For (in return for) my LOVE they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer. And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my LOVE.’ (Ps.109:4-5) Yes Friends, just look at all the fraudulent acts that have recently been unearthed, where thousands of people have lost their life savings and retirement money to evil schemers, many of whom were relatives and/or close friends. Consider the failure of the big banks, through greed and excessive remuneration to the top echelons. People put their money in the banks and these other schemes in good faith, and what do they get in return? NADA, NOTHING! The same goes for our greedy and untrustworthy politicians and civic officials. They can’t seem to do anything that’s right and good because they have little or no backbone and are thus been played like the proverbial puppet on a string by the evil ringmasters. But Friends, they will all get their comeuppance eventually, and I can assure you it won’t be good, because our God is keeping score and will repay them when the time’s right! Many have already succumbed to ill health, suicide and jail, their families humbled and shamed, while many are still living in dire fear of being caught. Evil has no place to run and hide Friends, please remember that. Whatever is done in darkness will eventually come to light and the perpetrators, or their families WILL pay. Many of us have suffered evil at the hands of those we trusted or treated with a good and righteous heart, only to be cast adrift later on with an unholy ‘see you later alligator’ attitude and wave off. I can tell from personal experience that those things do hurt very much my people, but sometimes we just have to grin and bear them. I like how Bruh David says it in Psalm 38; the prayer of a penitent heart: ‘But mine enemies are lively (vigorous), and they are strong: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied. They also that render evil for good are mine adversaries; because I follow the thing that good is (that is good).’ (Ps.38:19-20) Yes Friends, it hurts the most when we have gone out of our way to do the good and right thing, then get suckered for it. But as Peter so rightly advises: ‘And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good? But and if ye suffer for righteousness sake, happy (blessed) are ye: And be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled.’ (1 Pet.3:14-15) I know that’s hard to do Friends, but it’s the way Jesus wants His followers to be. Remember He suffered immeasurable unfairness and evil for our sakes, and never complained. We are called to do likewise, and with His help, through His Holy Spirit, we can indeed leave the evil hurts we suffer to God to rectify. That’s wisdom at its zenith. Much LOVE!…the pilgrim’s journey is long and arduous…but with Jesus stoking the fires of his heart…he is able to withstand…and eventually overcome…

2 Samuel 23:3. The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.
Oh Friends, another beautiful day is in the offing! Let’s give our most wonderful God some praise for that nuh. ‘Oh Lord, you are so generous and merciful to your often ungrateful earthly children. However, today, we give You much heartfelt thanks and praise for favouring us with the breath of life and allowing us to see, for at lest one more day, all the wonders of creation that You have designed and made for our enjoyment. We also offer thanks for the many other blessings that You have prepared to shower us with today. We LOVE You Lord, and ask that You help us to walk worthy of You down here on this wicked, ungodly earth, furthering your glorious kingdom as we go. All this we pray in the Holy Name of Your Son, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, who shed His precious blood at Calvary, so that we could once more be connected to You, and enjoy your everlasting mercies. Amen!’ Ah mih people, the ole fella got carried away there, because there’s so much to thank our ever-LOVING God for! I’m not sure though how many of us realize how truly lucky… no not lucky, but truly blessed we are to be living the comparatively good life that we currently enjoy. We’re living better than approximately 90 % of the world. But do we even know that? And if we do, do we give sufficient thanks for our blessed situations? Remember Bruh Paul’s wise and timely advice to the Ephesians: ‘Giving thanks ALWAYS for ALL things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.’ (Eph.5:20) I do believe though, that if more of us would give more thanks, more often, our world would improve quite a lot. So Friends, let’s try and improve our giving of thanks nuh, so that our world would become a much better place, and thus raise up brethren who can, and will comply with our Bit. ‘The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.’ Now yesterday we looked at some scripture that dealt with the meaning of the term ‘Rock’ in our faith, and saw that it was basically a description of a stable, unchanging, powerful Deity, who, amongst other things, offers His followers peace, rest, safety and eternal salvation. And we also noted that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob was the ONLY ONE in possession of such amazing attributes. Today, let’s look at the second part of our Bit; ‘He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.’ Hn! It will certainly be difficult to find that kind of ruler in this day and age yes Friends! But unfortunately it’s exactly the kind of leader’s we need to try and bring some semblance of balance and righteousness to our very unbalanced, very disturbed, troubled and ungodly world. And the sad part is that when such leaders rise up, the evil minions of Lucifer do their very best to beat and/or keep them down, while the righteous mostly sit around and wring their hands in anxiety, but don’t do too much to help. Ah mih breddren, be it known that a leader is only as good as the people he leads. That’s why the saying ‘people get the leaders they deserve’ is oh so true. Look at Moses; one of the greatest leaders of all time. He was doing his very best to lead some two million people through the wilderness, but do you think they would cooperate with him, even after seeing all the miracles their God had performed in their favour? No sir! They just kept on grumbling and complaining about every little inconvenience. Shades of us nowadays eh! The stress and strain of leading that rebellious and disobedient people were certainly taking a toll on Moses until his father-in law, Jethro, gave him some wise and wonderful advice. ‘Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou and this people that is with thee: for this thing is too heavy (much) for thee; thou art not able to perform it thyself alone. Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel (advice), and God shall be with thee: Be thou for the people to Godward, that thou mayest bring the causes unto God: And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws, and shalt show them the way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do. Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens: And let them judge the people at all seasons: and it shall be, that every great matter they shall bring unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge: so shall it be easier for thyself, and they shall bear the burden with thee.’ (Ex.18:18-22) Sure words of wisdom my brethren! However, in today’s society it sets up too many levels of authority, which only lead to unwieldy bureaucracy, and is a sure breeding ground for all kinds of corruption. But it’s still the best way for men to rule, for one man cannot do it all, and do it properly too, regardless of how just, righteous and reverential he is. I guess it will just have to continue like that until the righteous reign of the branch of Jesse is entrenched. Please read Isaiah 11: 1-5 for that, as we don’t have time nor space to include it. Yes Friends, when Jesus finally comes to reign over His followers in a world without sin and evil, then there’ll be need for only ONE Ruler! Please, let’s think on that today, and let it guide us as we go along our righteous way. Much LOVE!…when men rule over men…there will always be problems…because of our fallen nature…

Oh Friends, the ole fella’s shaking it a bit rough this morning. In fact he’s been shaking it rough all weekend. Hn! Ignorance really is a hell of a thing yes! Why do I say that? Because last week I saw that I was running out of my arthritic medication, but thinking that I had some in the bag I carry around, I didn’t contact my doctor for a refill. And as the Lord would have it, I ran out over the weekend. However, when I checked the bag, lo and behold, there were no arthritic pills. And though I took some other stuff, it just didn’t feel the same. Don’t know if I was suffering withdrawal symptoms or what, but my whole body just seemed more achy and out of sync than normal. And to make matters worse, my allergies are acting up this morning. Brother! The ole body is surely crying out for constant sunshine and warm seawater yes! (smile) Anyway, enough of my woes, they’re inconsequential to those of many others. Here’s a quote though, from American author Clarence Day (1874-1935) that we can all attest to. ‘The real world is not easy to live in. It is rough; it is slippery.’ And isn’t that the living truth Friends! In fact our world is getting rougher and more slippery everyday. That’s why we have to assume full responsibility for our health and strength with continuous positive action, and not wait until a crisis forces us to act. But as Christians, true followers of Jesus, we don’t have to get all flustered, anxious and worried over the world’s rough and slippery nature, for Jesus reassured us that He had already conquered the world, so we should be of good spirit, and do our best while abiding in Him. (John 16:33) Today is also the eleventh anniversary of the World Trade Centre bombing in New York City. You can imagine the emotions that will be fired up over that today. But you know what, our Bit today encapsulates what was wrong with that whole scenario. ‘The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.’ Obviously the rulers, or those who controlled the people who committed that heinous crime, weren’t just, or didn’t fear God. And sadly that’s a fact that’s happening all over the current world; rulers neither are afraid physically or emotionally of God, nor do they reverence Him. They just do as they please, or follow the evil, ungodly schemes laid down by their evil, ungodly masters. And it’s worthy to note that today we’re dealing with some of Bruh David’s last words. Before our Bit, he proudly proclaims: ‘The Spirit of the Lord spake by me, and his word was in my tongue… Bit… And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain.’ (2 Sam.23:2,4) As we said earlier, there are surely very few, if any rulers of that calibre existing today. Now here’s a brief explanation from the scholars. “David attests the divine inspiration of his psalm. Verses 2-7 contain a lovely testimony in song of David’s abiding trust in God and the unconditional covenant of God with the house of David.” Yes Friends, although Bruh David was far from perfect, he staunchly abided in the LOVE, power and trust of God, so that the Lord made an unconditional covenant with him. His name and his house would always be revered in the annals of Jewish history. It’s also interesting to see that the terminology used by Bruh David to describe his God was also used by a couple of other famous faithful followers in their songs of praise. In his song, Moses declares: ‘Because I will publish (proclaim) the name of the Lord: ascribe ye greatness unto our God. He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgement: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.’ (Deut.32:3-4) And all God’s people declared a loud and grateful; ‘Praise the Lord, for He is indeed our Rock and our salvation!’ And Samuel’s mother, Hannah, after she had cried out to the Lord and He had filled her barren womb with the prophet, she also joyfully declared: ‘There is none holy as the Lord: for there is none besides thee: neither is there any rock like our God.’ (1 Sam.2:2) Ah mih people, the word ‘Rock’ emphasizes the stability, permanence and unchanging nature of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, as a place of security, safety and rest, of hope and salvation! Where else can we find a God who truly possesses all those qualities eh? NOWHERE, my Friends, NOWHERE! And yuh know what? The Holy Spirit just advised me to stop here for today, because the rest of my message would be much too long for our busy, short attention spans. (smile) And since I try to be as obedient as possible, I’ll certainly bow to His greater wisdom. So Friends, please let’s ponder today’s message and allow it help us in our walk of faith through this rough and slippery world. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.
