Today’s Scrip-Bit 21 October 2012 Psalm 73:27

Psalm 73:27.       For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.

Oh Friends, as the multicoloured leaves fall off the trees, leaving more and more of them naked every day, so are the days in my neighbourhood getting ‘chillier and chillier.’ Note I said chilly, not cold, because the real cold days are yet to come. But as autumn ‘nippily’ races towards its crescendo, you can surely sense the cold days of winter just hovering stealthily in the background. But what’s a body to do eh? That’s how God made this planet earth; some places have four seasons, some only two, wet and dry. But being the wise and kindly God that He is, He made us very adaptable, physically and emotionally able to withstand the rigours of any physical environment we end up dwelling in. Then in even greater affirmation of His wisdom and LOVE for us, He willingly sacrificed His Holy Son Jesus so that we could be cleansed of our abominable sins, and then sent His Holy Spirit to indwell us, so that we can live in spiritual peace. But talking about Jesus, why does the mere mention of His name cause such a stir amongst humans eh? You can call every other name under the sun, and none creates half the controversy that Jesus’ does. I guess it’s because of the awesome power and marvellous majesty inherent in the very name itself! I’m talking about a particular incident that recently took place in a small, backwater Texas town. It seems that the High School cheerleaders had bits of encouraging scripture emblazoned on their banners; stuff like, ‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.’ Now would you believe that situation ended up in a court of law, because someone took umbrage re the Christian messages on the banners. Thankfully though, the court decided in the cheerleaders favour, although the supposedly wronged person plans to appeal the decision. Oh Friends, what’s it coming to eh, that you can’t even wave a banner for Jesus in the land of the free and home of the brave? My people, we have to take these seemingly small and innocuous matters seriously, cause it seems okay for other faiths to broadcast their heretical messages in what’s supposed to be a Christian land, but Christians can’t do likewise without some big uproar. Everyday some evildoer jumps up and complains about their rights and freedoms, so what’s happening to ours eh? My fellow believers in Christ, it’s essential that we stand up strong and fight back furiously, or else little by little, they’ll whittle away our freedoms, until we’re a minor player in our own land, which could eventually entail persecution for our beliefs.  That’s definitely not acceptable my brethren, especially since the evil cronies of Lucifer have already taken prayer out of our schools and public places. The problem with us Christians is that we’re way too complacent; we talk a lot, but there’s very little action to back it up. We rationalize that we’re leading a comfortable life and don’t want to rock the boat, for fear that it might capsize. But Friends, if the boat isn’t rocking, that means it’s becalmed, nothing’s happening, life’s not moving onward and upward, as it should. And remember it’s the squeaky wheel that get’s the grease. The so-called Christian politicians are appeasing all these complainers, because the votes of the dissatisfied persons are more important to them for the purpose of re-election, than their Christian heritage.  Oh my brethren, can’t we see that every other faith stands up and fights for its belief, much more than we Christians do? The Muslims, the Jews, Hindus Sikhs, they don’t take any guff from anybody re their faith. But we Christians just sit back and expect to enjoy the good life forever without putting up some kind of fight for our faith. All these other faiths have come from other lands and are slowly but surely wresting control of the affairs of state, and thus the lives of those who dwell therein. Nobody says that you can’t worship or practice your faith, but certainly not at the expense of mine! Our problem in the western world is that we have gotten too fat, lazy and comfortable. Consequently the fire inside us is slowly dying, or has already died. Just look at one of the biggest problems in our current society, obesity. Meanwhile, more than half the world is starving. That’s the problem with prosperity; it breeds distaste and apathy. Look at the Israelites of olden times. Every time they got prosperous, they forgot who caused them to be thus; the God of their fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Falsely they believed that it was the work of their own hands and therefore forsook Jehovah God. But then, every time they went their own way, ‘sufferation’ would haunt them, until they’d finally wake up and smell the roses, repent, turn back to God, until the next time they became prosperous. Oh my people, the same situation is happening to us now. We’ve become, fat, lazy and apathetic, worshiping the things of the world over those of God, and the ground is slowly sliding away from under us. But foolishly and with false human pride, we’re not paying attention the basic problems that are eroding our society; lack of trust in our Supreme ruler, and lack of LOVING-kindness for each other. We have allowed greed, envy and selfishness to overtake righteousness, and we are now paying the price. ‘Sufferation is all around us, and it’s not going to get better until our attitude towards Almighty God and each other change substantial for the better. And I’ll simply end with our Bit, from Asaph’s momentous psalm, re the mystery of prosperous wickedness. ‘For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee (who are unfaithful to thee).’ Yes Friends, wickedness prospers some, but not for long. Like the early morning dew, it is soon destroyed by the heat of the rising sun. Please my fellow believers, let’s wake up from our foolish, lazy slumber and start smelling the roses instead of the coffee nuh. It’s time we got our act together and began seriously fighting back against the heathen infidel, otherwise we’ll end up amongst the has beens and also ran, thus not holding true to Bruh Paul’s advice to run a strong and diligent race. Much LOVE!…he who does not hear…will surely feel…eventually…  P.S. Sorry that the Bit is a tad late, but I was having problems with Internet Explorer and finally had to change to another programme.

Today’s Scrip-Bit 20 October 2012 Proverbs 4:7

Proverbs 4:7.    Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

Oh Friends, the ole fella seems to be having a case of writer’s block, because I can’t come up with a witty or interesting intro this morning. (smile) But the good part is that I’m alive and kicking, thanks to the most wonderful Deity, whom I serve and worship! Ah Friends, that in itself is an awesome blessing, for with Him constantly in my corner and by my side, I need not fear anyone or anything. Added to that, He provides all my earthly needs, once I stay in good relationship with Him. Wow! And furthermore, though I may sometimes be lonely, I’m NEVER ALONE, because His Holy Spirit resides within me. Mama Mia! The only problem is whether I use the Holy Spirit as wisely as I should, for He will not encroach upon my freedom of choice. That’s why we’re going to talk about wisdom again today. For the last time though, I faithfully promise. (smile) Don’t know why believers are so against hearing the same topic of scripture for a few days straight nuh, especially when it’s the most important attribute we can acquire here on earth, and one which we desperately need judging from the troubled state of our lives in particular, and our world in general. But that seems to be the nature of the beast, and all I can do is to persevere with it. Oh, I indeed hesitated about talking about wisdom again today, but the pull was finally too strong for me to ignore it. So here we go once more with our wise Bit: ‘Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.’ Yes Friends, there’s absolutely no doubt that when we possess wisdom, and the understanding that flows from it, then we’re able to handle any and everything that comes against us, because it’s wisdom that shows us how and where to go, and what to do and say. With it in our possession, we can unlock any door and be at peace. Why? Because those essential attributes come from God Himself, and if we truly possess them, then our souls will be at peace, wherever we are, in whatever situation we find ourselves. Today we’ll talk about the everlasting nature of WISDOM. Listen to Cousin Sol as he declares of WISDOM: ‘The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth. While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields (outer places), nor the highest part of the dust (the beginning of the dust) of the world. When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass (drew a circle) upon the face of the depth (deep): When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep: When he gave to the sea his decree (its limit), that the waters should not pass (transgress) his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth: Then I was by him, as one brought up with him (Jewish tradition): and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him; Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delight s were with the sons of men.’ (Prov.8:22-31) Ah mih people, that’s eternal truth! Remember in a previous message we saw that the Lord used WISDOM to make the universe and all therein? (Prov.3:19-20) Oh Friends, before we go further, let me give you a brief comment of the scholars, re those verses: ‘Although some have associated verses 22-31 with the creative work of the preincarnate Christ (before He was born of flesh and blood) (cf. John 1:1-3; Col.1:15-17) who is revealed as the Wisdom of God (1 Cor.1:24; Col.2:3), the major emphasis of the context is on God’s own use of wisdom in creating the universe.’ That means wisdom was with our heavenly Father from the very beginning of time, and will be there also for all eternity. That’s because it’s WISDOM and its various associates like prudence, discretion, knowledge and understanding that drive the everlasting engine of God’s affairs. Without WISDOM and those other attributes, everything will fall apart. That’s why WISDOM further declares: ‘Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways. Hear instruction and be wise, and refuse it not (do not disdain it). Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. For whoso findeth me, findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the Lord. But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.’ (Prov.8:32-36) What more can I say to that eh my people? Not much, cause Cousin Sol said it all. But I can strongly advise us to seek wisdom, understanding and all those things which make life down here on earth a tad easier than normal. And to end, hear some more words of wisdom on the subject. (smile) ‘The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the Holy (One, Spirit) is understanding.’ (Prov.9:10) So please Friends, let’s get serious about finding wisdom and understanding nuh, for they are the essence of life, and until we truly find them, we’ll be sadly lacking both physically, and spiritually. Much LOVE!…only they who are wise…are truly alive…

Today’s Scrip-Bit 19 October 2012 Proverbs 4:7

Proverbs 4:7.    Wisdom is the principal thing: therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

Oh Friends, it’s Friday, and I know we’re all eager to see the end of it, so that we can relax and enjoy the weekend. But please, let’s be patient and careful in our enthusiasm, for much can happen betwixt the start and end of the day. Let’s not be hasty and rush into anything as we declare ‘TGIF! Thank God it’s Friday!’ And to help us curb that enthusiasm, let’s chant our Friday Chant. In full voice now: ‘Oh Lord, thanks for getting me safely through another week of work! It hasn’t been easy, but with your generous help, I made it through. Now, please help me to get sufficient fun, fellowship, rest and relaxation in these two short days off, so that I can be renewed and refreshed in soul, body and mind, to go back out and do it all over again next week, furthering your glorious kingdom with each step I take. I pray this in Jesus name. Amen.’ And in that chant Friends, we adhere to the sagacity (smile) of our Bit. ‘Wisdom is the principal thing: therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.’ That’s undeniable truth my people! And we should all know by now that WISDOM and understanding come from God. But it’s only when we seek them of Him with a sincere and right heart, that He will grant them to us. And no doubt some of you are unhappy that we’re talking about wisdom for yet another day, but the truth of the matter is if we had been suitably and sufficiently imbued with wisdom and understanding, we would not have made many of the mistakes we’ve made in our lives. And furthermore, if the wisest man ever, Cousin Sol, didn’t believe that wisdom was such an important aspect of our lives, he wouldn’t have spent so much time in Proverbs talking about it, even to purposely declaring in our Bit that it was the principal thing for us to acquire on this earthly journey. And for us to be able to achieve that goal, there must be directives and instructions for us to follow, as well as the consequences of not following them. Thus from the opening of Proverbs, Cousin Sol declares his purpose in penning them; ‘To know wisdom and instruction: to perceive (understand or discern) the words of understanding; To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgement, and equity; To give subtilty (prudence) to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.’ (Prov.1:2:4) And here are some explanations from the scholars: ‘Wisdom is the key word of the book and basically means “skill in living;” the skill to live life successfully. Instruction refers to moral discipline of one’s life, not to classroom instruction. Understanding means the capability to distinguish between true and false, good and bad, what matters most and what does not matter at all. Wisdom, a different Hebrew word from that used in verse 2, means, “wise behaviour, wise dealing, good sense.” Justice is the same word as righteousness and refers to conformity to God’s law. Judgement is a legal term used of a judge’s verdict and refers to right behaviour. Equity is fairness in one’s dealing with others.’ Now that puts us all on the same page as to the meaning of the words. And having defined his purpose, Cousin Sol goes on to relate how it will affect us. ‘A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain (inquire) unto wise counsels:’ (Prov.1:5) That means, anyone, educated or not, with a desire to learn, can be wisely instructed by obeying the instructions of the book. And in every chapter he declares some aspect of WISDOM, some of which we’ll look at, as time and space dictate. In Chapter 2, Cousin Sol deals with the reward of heeding wisdom: ‘When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee: To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things (perversity).’ (Prov.2:10-12) And in Chapter 3, we saw yesterday that wisdom and understanding made man happy and gave him all sorts of good things in this earthly life. (Prov.3:12-18) We also saw that the Lord used wisdom to create the universe. (Prov.3:18-20) Then in Chapter 4, Cousin Sol talks about a ‘father’s wisdom,’ that gives wise advice to children. ‘Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline (turn away) from the words of my mouth. Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: LOVE her, and she shall keep thee.’ (Prov.4:5-6) Then he goes into our Bit and tells about some more good stuff that comes from wisdom, that we heard yesterday. (Prov.4:7-9) After that, he acknowledges that there are two paths to follow: ‘Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many. I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths. When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straightened (hindered); and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble. Take fast (firm) hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.’ (Prov.4:11-13) And on the second path he advises thus: ‘Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. Avoid it, pass not by it (do not travel on it), turn from it and pass away. For they sleep not, except (unless) they have done mischief (evil); and their sleep is taken away (robbed), unless they cause some to fall. For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence…The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.’ (Prov.4:14-17,19) And since time and space are against us, we’ll end here with a significant verse that Cousin Sol saw fit to include in the spiel about the wicked, but which I left out. Listen closely now. ‘But the path of the just is as the shining (bright) light, that shineth more and more (ever brighter) unto the perfect day.’ (Prov.4:19) And that my Friends is the gospel truth! So please let’s grasp it and hold on to it very firmly, that we might come to know true WISDOM, and get true understanding. Much LOVE!…keep thy heart (mind) with all diligence…for out of it…are (flow) the values of (abundant) life…  (Prov.4:23)

Today’s Scrip-Bit 18 October 2012 Proverbs 4:7

Proverbs 4:7.    Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

Hi there you beautiful people, fellow believers in Christ! How goes it this glorious Thursday morning eh? I hope we are all standing strong and faithful in Jesus, and thus enjoying the abundant blessings He has prepared for us each and every day. Ah mih people, when I consider how wonderful our God is to us, undeserving though we are, I just have to shake my head in amazement and shout out a heartfelt, ‘Thank You Lord! We LOVE and worship You, today and forever!’ Oh Friends, there simply are no words in any language to really describe, to truly do justice to the awesome kindness and caring that the Lord God Jehovah has for His sinful, rebellious, disobedient children. And since those attributes lead to very foolish and brain-dead acts on our part, I decided to repeat our Bit from yesterday which deals with WISDOM, hoping that it will ignite a spark, then a flame, then a brightly burning passionate fire in our souls to turn from our foolish, rebellious, disobedient ways, and seek WISDOM, without which, we’ll never truly understand or even come close to our awesome God. I think our Bit says it very simply and truthfully: ‘WISDOM is the principal thing; therefore get WISDOM: and with all thy getting get understanding.’ Yes my brethren, without WISDOM in this evil, ungodly world, we’re totally lost and oh so liable to follow the wiles and lies of Lucifer down the broad highway that leads to death and destruction. Yesterday we ended with the powerful scripture of James on how and where to get WISDOM; from Almighty God, with a sincere longing and a heart of true faith, not wavering in the slightest. And that’s the way it always was, and always will be! Let’s see how important WISDOM is in our existence, both here on earth and also in heavenly places by listening closely, with both our ears and our hearts, as Cousin Sol solemnly proclaims in Proverbs 3: ‘The Lord by WISDOM hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens. By his knowledge the depths (deeps) are broken up, and the clouds drop down dew.’ (Prov.3:19-20) Ah my people, WISDOM is such an important element in our world, that God used it to create the universe! Now if God needed WISDOM to do that, why wouldn’t we mere mortals need it too, since we’re His creation? And if you’re still not convinced about the prudence and common sense of acquiring WISDOM and understanding from Almighty God, then listen again to Cousin Sol as he describes a whole heap of things that WISDOM encourages and procures. Remember too, that Cousin Sol is still reputed to be the wisest man who ever lived, so if any mortal should know about knowledge and WISDOM, it should be him. ‘Happy is the man that findeth WISDOM, and the man that getteth understanding: For the merchandise (gain) of it is better than the merchandise (profit) of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is everyone that retaineth her (holds her fast).’ (Prov.3:14-18) Oh Friends, that’s nothing but gospel truth! WISDOM is indeed more profitable than either silver or gold, as well as other precious jewels, like rubies! Nothing we can desire in this fallen world can be compared to her, because her ways are pleasant and peaceful, and acts like a tree of life to those who embrace her, and even more importantly, she brings happiness and joy to all who hold on to her tightly! Wow! What a miraculous entity is that thing we call WISDOM! The billion dollar question then Friends, is if WISDOM is so great and wonderful, why aren’t many more of us actively and consciously seeking that which comes from God, than the fallible, evil and foolish supposed wisdom of man eh? I suppose that in spite of all our godly spiel, we’re still yoked more tightly to the things of the world rather than the things of God. Oh my people, how often must I remind us that whatever Lucifer promises us, the Most High God can offer us much more, and we won’t be led down the garden path, as we would be following the evil leader of death and darkness. But I guess Lucifer’s baubles have more glitz and glamour attached to them, than God’s. But please remember my people, that all that glitters is not gold, and most of Lucifer’s shining trinkets are merely gold-plated brass, whereas, our great God only deals in the real stuff, in the truth. If He’s really all-powerful, and can make or break anything, why then would He resort to falsehood to bring His children home to Him eh? No reason whatsoever my brethren! Lucifer however lacks that power, so he has to rely on lies, innuendo and all the other negative stuff that prevails in his dark, dismal and evil world. And we’ll end with this most wise and appropriate scripture: ‘The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion (legacy) of fools.’ (Prov.3:35) Oh Friends, I couldn’t say it any better than Cousin Sol, the wisest mortal to ever draw breath. So please, let’s wake up and pay serious attention to our attitudes today nuh! If we don’t, we’re liable to lose all the riches, both of heaven and earth. Much LOVE!…to those who listen…many rewards are thrust upon them…while to the deaf…death and destruction prey upon them…

Today’s Scrip-Bit 17 October 2012 Proverbs 4:7

Proverbs 4:7.     Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

Oh Friends, as always, we like to open with some thanks and praise to our Most Gracious God for causing us to see another beautiful day on planet earth. We all know that life in general isn’t easy, there are, and will always be plenty of ups and downs, but hopefully, when we stand faithfully with God, the ups will be more plentiful than the downs. It’s just the simple law of averages, a basic fact of life which states that the more times you go up to bat, the greater your chances are of hitting a home run. So please, let’s not falter and/or get weary when the rough times assault us, when they just seem to keep coming one after the other. Remember that they are often tests from our wise and wonderful God to see if we are ready for promotion. And if we handle them with strength and confidence in His faithfulness, then our faith will definitely increase and most likely the Lord will bless us with some kind of promotion. So please, let’s stay strong and faithful, regardless of whatever comes against us. Now in the last few days we’ve been talking about the evil stuff that’s cropping up on the Internet, in particular the cyber bullying, criminal blackmail of the young girl Amanda Todd, who recently committed suicide over it. I hadn’t planned to say anything more about it, but I read about another development from that story that I thought it necessary to share. It seems that one diligent lady discovered the name and workplace of one of those disgusting persons who were writing negative evil stuff about the girl. This woman called the man’s employer in Toronto with the information and he was subsequently fired. The woman claims she didn’t really want him to get fired, but at least shamed and reprimanded. Now she is also receiving some nasty e-mail, although the majority of the responses seem to be positive. Oh Friends, I hope all this stuff is making a difference in what you’re thinking about posting on the Net, for a lot of it, even the seemingly innocuous, harmless stuff can eventually come back to haunt you. And on another point of interest, you also have to be careful what you ask the Lord for, since He’ll seldom just drop it in your lap without any work on your part. And in today’s ‘From off my wall’ section, we have a very good example of that. Tacked very prominently to the wall on the right side of my office is a foolscap page with this information written by my young daughter in big, bold, black and red letters. ‘The Wisdom of Solomon. The Strength of Samson. The Patience of Job.’ Ah mih breddren, some years aback, in my spiritual naivety, I apparently asked the Lord to give me those things. Looking back now, I’m sure He sadly chuckled and said: ‘Poor boy, you really don’t know what you’re asking or setting yourself up for nuh, because it takes a lot of blood, sweat and tears to come by anyone of them, and you’re asking for all three.’ No doubt, some of the stuff I’ve since experienced came about because of that genuine but naive request. I’m not sure I’d ask for all three now, since I know what it takes to achieve any of them, but like the spilt milk, it’s too late to change my mind. But the good thing Friends is that with the Lord’s help, I believe I’ve made some decent headway in at least two of them; the wisdom and patience aspects. At my age, and with all the aches and pains in the old body, it’s doubtful I can acquire the physical strength of Samson, but I certainly am working on acquiring the spiritual strength necessary to walk faithfully with God. Please pray for the old fella, that the Lord doesn’t make it too hard for him. (smile) And I’m chuckling here, because I don’t have a Bit to tie all this together. I’m sure though that the Lord will guide me to something appropriate, as I take a break to look now. So soon come! Aye Friends, I’m back in less than five minutes. It seemed that all of the preceding stuff had wisdom as its theme, so I looked for a Bit on that topic, and came up with this most appropriate one: ‘Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.’ See, the Lord does keep His promise to help us in times of need! And do we ever need wisdom in this evil, foolish, ungodly world that we live in! Yes Friends, if we need to get only one attribute on this earth, wisdom is the one to get, because once we have that, we’ll know how to handle all the other matters of life, for from wisdom flows understanding and everything else. As Cousin Sol further explains: ‘Exalt her (wisdom), and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her. She shall give to (place on) thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver thee.’ (Prov.4:8-9) There is no doubting of wisdom’s ability to do just that my people! Cousin Sol further declares in Proverbs 16: ‘How much better it is to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!’ (Prov.16:16) Yes Friends, wisdom and understanding are of such great importance, more so than the riches of this world. And we’ll end with the answer to the burning question that everyone so desperately desires to know i.e. how does one get that wonderful attribute called wisdom? It’s easy Friends, no rocket science involved at all. Listen to James tell it like it is: ‘If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not (without reproach); and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering (not doubting). For he that wavereth (doubts) is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord. A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways.’ (James1:5-8) And that Friends, is how we go about getting wisdom. Please, let’s seriously consider our state of wisdom today, make the necessary changes, and then passionately seek it. Much LOVE!…our souls were made to seek wisdom…but to find wisdom…one must first seek Jehovah God…

Today’s Scrip-Bit 16 October 2012 Psalm 39:1

Psalm 39:1.     I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.

Ah mih people, another day is slowly dawning in our wonderful lives, thanks to our most wonderful God. And all God’s people trilled a grateful, ‘Thank You heavenly Father for showering us with Your LOVE, mercy, and forgiveness! We worship and adore You with all our hearts, bodies and souls. In Jesus’ Name. Amen!’
Yes Friends, it’s only right and wise to give the Lord thanks for all He’s doing for us, even though it doesn’t seem so on the surface. Take for instance, in my area yesterday it was cold and blustery with high winds all day, meaning that leaves were blowing all over the place like crazy, especially in my driveway, which seems to have a whirlwind, current-like disposition, for all the other driveways are clear of leaves, but mine always has a couple piles spread around it. Many of the trees are already devoid of leaves, though the colourful autumn landscape is still highly visible all around, with the beautiful, eye-catching, burnished browns, golds and yellows, highlighting the amazing artistry of our very creative God.
That means the dreaded winter has begun its cold, dark, uncomfortable journey to our area, and many of us began singing the winter blahs from the first chilly day. (smile) But my people, that will only make our lives even more miserable than normal over the next six months, an unnecessary evil, since we are strong, staunch believers in Jesus Christ and have the assurance that He will eventually work everything out for our good.
Now here’s a simple prayer from the Hour of Power Devotional by Robert H. Schuller, to help us overcome the vicissitudes of life. It’s titled FAITH, and strongly proclaims: ‘Lord, I believe in the SUN, even when it is behind the clouds; in the SEED, even when it lies unsprouted under the ground; in FAITH, even when I have been betrayed; in LOVE, even when I have been rejected; in HOPE, even when I have been hurt; in GOD, even when you do not answer my prayers. Amen.’
Now doesn’t that just say everything about our faith in a nutshell my brethren? It sure does!
And finally turning to our Bit: ‘I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep (restrain) my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.’
Oh Friends, that’s the way it’s supposed to be, but sadly it isn’t in this very talkative age. Yesterday we saw that Amanda Todd’s foolish act of putting half-naked pictures of herself on the Internet, eventually caused her sad demise. And unfortunately this can happen to any of us, if we’re not very careful about what we say and/ or post in the social media, since there are tons of evildoers out there just waiting to jump on anything they can use.
Now I said that there were two things bugging me, but before I get to the second, let me throw in here another negative aspect of the Net. A few weeks ago, somewhere in Europe, in the Netherlands, if I remember correctly, a teenaged girl sent out a message re a party in her backwater town. End result; some three thousand hooligans descended on the poor town, causing a huge riot and untold damage.
Nowadays uninvited people showing up at parties and trashing the place has become a constant hazard with such easy social communication, so what’s it going to take for us to smarten up eh, and be careful how we advertise our personal functions? Apparently, the young lady above, forgot to put private or some such foolishness in her message.
Now crashing a party is nothing new, we did it in our time too, but we went to have a good time, and even when we were kicked out, we didn’t feel the need to cause confusion and trash the place. But now, no one seems to have respect for other people’s privacy or belongings, and half the fun appears to come from destroying stuff. What a sad commentary on our society!
And finally, the other bit of nonsense that’s been riding my chest. It’s about a working mother in Alberta, a western province, our oil and beef capital, who apparently went on strike and refused to clean up after her children, twelve year old twins and a ten year old.    For a week she drank wine or whatever and had the gall to start a Blog about it, even showing her picture against the despicable looking kitchen in the background. She claims that at the beginning, she told the children she was tired, or some sort of horse manure, then at the end of the week, she told them the real reason.
What foolishness! I would be ashamed to let anybody know that I have three big children in my house, who obviously have all the joys of today’s modern world, and if I don’t pick up behind them, my house was going to be in a terrible mess. In the first place, I blame the mother for not teaching the children responsibility.
Do you think at that age I could have done anything even closely resembling that in my mother’s house, especially when she was killing herself working two jobs to keep me fairly comfortable? No way Jose! But that’s the kind of parenting we seem to be doing nowadays, no wonder the children are lost and irresponsible.
And what irks me even more, is that they’ve made this lousy mother a celebrity, with people complimenting her on what she’s done. She was even flown to New York city to be interviewed by Kathy Couric on the Today Show or some such inane programme.
   Chuh! Steups!
Okay Friends, I’ve finally got it off my chest. If you don’t agree with me, too bad, that just shows how badly your standards have fallen too. But, as they say, to each his own.
However, let me make one last appeal; please, please, think seriously before you talk, or put anything out there on the Web, for it’s truly worldwide, and there are many sick, evil, vindictive, criminal types out there just waiting to use your information improperly. I can’t say it any plainer than that. Much LOVE!
…in most aspects of life…those who refuse to listen…are usually taken advantage of by the evil elements, prevalent everywhere…

Today’s Scrip-Bit 15 October 2012 Psalm 39:1

Psalm 39:1.        I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue; I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.

Oh Friends, it’s Monday, that wonderful day! And all God’s people responded with a rousing, ‘Yeah! Thank God it’s Monday, and we get to go out to work!’ Wow! What wonderful believers! (smile) Okay, so I’m a tad on the crazy side, but that’s how our LOVING, Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ wants us to react on a Monday morning, not with the moaning and groaning, the pity party and foul moods we usually exhibit. And foolishly or otherwise, I’ve promised Him that I will eventually get us to be as enthusiastic about Mondays as we are about Fridays. Now I’m sure you all don’t want to see me break my promise to Jesus. So please help the ole fella here nuh, help me by changing the gloomy Monday morning outlook, starting RIGHT NOW, as we sing our Monday Morning Battle Hymn, with plenty vim and vigour. All together now: ‘Oh Lord God Almighty, Creator of the universe and all therein! We, your humble servants, praise your Holy Name and thank you that this Monday morning we have jobs to go to; jobs we don’t like, jobs that are unfair, difficult and even dangerous, but which serve a useful purpose here on earth; keeping lives and families together. We also thank you Father for the renewed vitality and enthusiasm you’ve wrought in our weary souls over the last two days. It’s that rejuvenation of Spirit which allows us now to sally forth with confidence into the evil, ungodly world that surrounds us, to begin a new week of work, constantly buffeted and bombarded by the enemy’s wicked taunts, wiles and lies. But heavenly Father, we’re not afraid, for we know we’re invincible, sure conquerors, once we’re wearing your powerful, protective spiritual armour. We surrender our all to you, and humbly ask that you let your incredible aura of LOVE, the Holy Spirit, lead and guide all your servants as we go out to meet the enemy in battle. Fill us with steadfast faith, so that we can make worthwhile inroads into the enemy’s ranks, and thereby further your glorious kingdom. We pray this in the Holy Name of your Son, and our Saviour, Jesus Christ. AMEN!’ Most excellent my people, most excellent! Jesus was proud of us. Now let’s go out into the evil, ungodly world and win some souls for Him, as He commissioned us to do. (Matt.28:19-20) And what shall we talk about today eh? I don’t have a clue. (smile) Okay Lord, okay, if that’s Your wish, I’ll finally obey. And I’m referring to a couple of things that have been bugging me for the last few days, but I’ve resisted the urge to say anything. However the Lord seems to want me to bring it up. Regular readers will remember that a couple days ago we were dealing with not talking or writing as much as we do in general, but even more so in the social media that’s chocked full of negative consequences. Well after the second day, I read about a couple things that greatly disturbed me about our ever so wonderful Internet, but I pushed it aside. However, it kept coming back through the newspapers and the television, and I guess now’s the time for me to get it off my chest. By the way, if we’re going to talk about talking too much, we can use the same Bit, since it’s still very appropriate. ‘I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue; I will keep (restrain) my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.’ Oh Friends, if what I’m about to say displeases you, then too bad, but it’s at sad times like these we, especially parents, have to take a serious look at our selves and our methods of rearing the children God gave us. Our society has sadly plummeted to rather deplorable and dumb standards, but what else can we expect from our general behaviour? Anyway, it seems that a couple of years ago, a grade 7 female student in British Columbia, Canada’s western coast province, in concert with supposed friends, published a picture of her breasts on Facebook. Steups! Right there the stupidity began! What in heaven’s name are you taking half-naked pictures of yourself and putting them out there for, especially at such a tender age? She must have been around 12 or 13, because she’s fifteen now. But unfortunately, a year later some evil type sent her a note that he wanted her to take more pictures of herself and send them to him, otherwise he was going to spread the old one all over the place. She claims she didn’t know who he was, or how he got hold of her earlier picture. But that’s relatively easy if you know how the systems work. But to make a long story short, he ended up doing exactly what he’d promised; sent the stuff to her friends, school mates etc. etc. That resulted in her being ostracised by all and sundry. Changing schools and cities didn’t make any difference the evil followed her everywhere she went. She was even physically beaten in addition to the jeers and verbal abuse. When she couldn’t take it anymore, she put out a warning to others using flash cards, then apparently committed suicide this week. Oh she’d tried it before, by drinking bleach, but fortunately she was saved. And here’s the headline on the story in Saturday’s Toronto Star newspaper. ‘Death by anti-social media.’ And as is our usual habit, we’re nicely calling that kind of criminal blackmail, cyber bullying, and everybody’s up in arms about it. Steups! When are we going to learn eh people? Everyday we hear about more and more criminal activities being perpetrated through and over the Internet, and it’s difficult to find the culprits, but yet still we go ahead and put stuff out there that has no reason whatsoever to be out there. And the sad part is that even after Amanda Todd’s terrible demise, many people are still gloating and happy and calling her terrible names. Now is that a nice society? I wouldn’t even ask about it being godly, because you don’t have to be godly to be nice or sympathetic. Oh Friends, we’ve run out of time and space, so I’ll leave the rest of my rant for tomorrow. But please, please learn from this disastrous mistake, that the Net is not all that the evil perpetrators and financial benefactors want us to believe it is. It does have it uses, but one of them is certainly not spreading your life history in cyber space for every Tom, Dick and Harry to see and be able to use and abuse. Much LOVE!…anything man-made…can always…and WILL eventually be used for evil…against society in general…or another man in particular…

Today’s Scrip-Bit 14 October 2012 Psalm 15:1

Psalm 15:1.        Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? Who shall dwell in thy holy hill?

Ah Friends, unfortunately or otherwise, yesterday has bitten the dust! But don’t worry, our God is such a wonderful Deity, that He’s sent today to replace it. Wow! And talking about today, I found this most appropriate quote in one of my devotionals. It’s attributed to U.S. writer/editor, Veronica Shoffstal, who confidently declares: ‘You learn to build your roads on today, because tomorrow’s ground is too uncertain for plans, and futures have a way of falling down in mid-flight.’ And isn’t that the gospel truth my people? We know not what the future holds, or will bring. And as they say; yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, plus it never comes. That means the only sort of sure thing we have is TODAY! It’s both the present time, as well as a present, a gift from God, that’s why we have to make the most of it, use it wisely, grow today, don’t leave it for tomorrow, for who knows what will happen then. So please my brethren, let’s all seriously concentrate on making today, the best today we can, beginning of course with giving God thanks and praise, then going out and living a life worthy of Him. And how does one live a life worthy of Almighty God? Bruh David asks that question in our Bit: ‘Lord, who shall abide (sojourn) in thy tabernacle? Who shall dwell in thy holy hill?’ Technically speaking, he’s asking who is qualified, what qualifications are necessary to sojourn, to work in the tabernacle, God’s house? But it certainly affects us all, for it should be the desired aim of every believer to walk worthily enough to serve in God’s holy of holies. And here’s the answer Bruh David gives: ‘He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart. He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, nor taketh up (receives) a reproach against his neighbour. In whose eyes a vile person is contemned (despised); but he honoureth them that fear the Lord, He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not. He that putteth not out his money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent. He that doeth these things shall never be moved.’ (Ps.15:2-5) Ah mih people, Bruh David has certainly laid out a hard row there for us to hoe, for it’s not easy to live righteously and worthily when surrounded by an evil, ungodly world as we are today. But we need to remind ourselves everyday, and sometimes several times a day, that with our generous, LOVING, merciful, forgiving, omnipotent God, ALL things are possible! We just have to keep the lines of communication open to Him, and He will lead us along the path He’s planned for us. That means constantly seeking Him, my brethren, not sitting around waiting for Him to come to us. And on that note, hear these wise and encouraging words of Bruh David to Cousin Sol: ‘And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the Lord searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: If thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.’ (1 Chr.28:9) That’s the unvarnished truth Friends! If we don’t seek God the Father, through Jesus the Son, in conjunction with the Holy Spirit, then we’ll be lost for all eternity, forever separated from the Holy Trinity, THE ONE TRUE GOD! And as I keep saying, that’s the worst fate that can ever befall a human being. Now in Psalm 24, the king of glory, Bruh David asks almost the same question: ‘Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who shall stand in his holy place?’ (Ps.24:3) And the answer is roughly the same: ‘He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity (to an idol), nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive the blessing from the Lord, and righteousness form the God of his salvation.’ (Ps.24:4-5) Yes Friends, the answer to our question, what it takes to walk worthily of God is basically to be humble, contrite, generous, truthful, merciful, and all the other attributes of Jehovah. When we so walk, then we will be abundantly blessed. Now we will never be perfect in all those things, and our heavenly Father knows that, He just wants to be able to give us an A+ + + for effort. As in all doings and dealings, the effort is always number one, for whatever effort we put out, that’s how much success we’ll have. Thus the more effort we put into living worthily for God, the more successful we’ll be. And as Bruh David said of his generation, so long ago: ‘This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob.    Selah.’ (Ps.24:6) Yes Friends, ponder that for a moment. And now, if we want to enjoy heavenly blessings down here on this ungodly earth, then I implore us to make those words also applicable  to our generation today, by diligently seeking the Most High God Jehovah, by continuously seeking His face, His LOVE, His grace and His mercy. Doing that is nothing but pure and simple wisdom. Much LOVE!…sow good seeds…and you shall reap abundant harvests…seek the Lord diligently…and you shall find Him speedily…those are His ever-faithful promises…

Today’s Scrip-Bit 13 October 2012 Psalm 39:1

Psalm 39:1.    I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.

Well Friends, it’s another day in the life… And all God’s people shouted a joyful, ‘Thank You Lord!’ Yes my brethren, we must be very thankful for the breath of life the Lord has seen fit to continue in our mortal bodies today, because it means that He still has a purpose for us to carry out here on earth. Some of us may not know what it is He desires of us, but if we ask Him with a humble heart and sincere motive, He will guide us to it. I can say that with authority because writing the Scrip-Bit wasn’t what I had imagined as my calling, though writing has always been a dream of mine. I have all sorts of worldly stuff I had planned on publishing, but then the Lord stepped in with the Scrip-Bit idea. And take it from me Friends, when the Lord says jump, or move, it’s best to just say ‘How high or how far Lord?’   Because if we try to fight His calling, we’ll only make things more difficult for ourselves. Now I haven’t given up on the dreams He’s put in my heart, but He’s made it very obvious that the Scrip-Bit is the priority right now. Oh my brethren, when I think back on how the Lord astutely manoeuvred me out of the other things in which I was involved, till I made the Bit my priority, I just have to chuckle. But putting myself in His hands was possibly the best decision I’ve ever made, for with His awesome help, I’ve come a long way from where I started. That’s why I can say with strong conviction that if the Lord asks you to do something in His Name, then He WILL enable you to do it. It won’t always be easy, but remember with Him, NOTHING is impossible! That brings us to our Bit: ‘ I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep (restrain) my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.’ Now most of us have a problem with bridling our tongues, and yesterday we saw how the new social media apparatus was making it even worse, by becoming too important in our mundane lives, with too many people suffering negative feed back through their lax and continually being lowered standards of talking and texting. That reminds me of a cartoon called Family Circus, I saw in the newspaper yesterday. In it, the four or five young children with musical instruments in their hands are beseeching their father to get his video-cam to shoot them, so that they can go viral. Ah Lord eh! That is the stated aim of most people in the social media framework; to go viral. The more hits you get, that supposedly makes you and whatever you uploaded important. Chuh! Our world has become so dumb and disgusting now that many of the things that supposedly go viral just boggle the imagination, at least mine. Unfortunately my Scrip-Bit Blog hasn’t gone viral, so I guess that means we’re not important in the greater scheme of things. But to some people it is important, and that suffices. If it makes a good difference to only one person everyday, then I’m happy, although I’d sure like to make a difference to many more – and even go viral. (smile) But enough of that now, let’s get some scripture that will help us in bridling our tongues. And we have a very good example of how to behave in Job’s conversation with his wife, when the Lord allowed calamity to be rained down on him by Lucifer. ‘Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die. But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive (accept) good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil (accept calamity)? In all of this did Job not sin with his lips.’ (Job 2:9-10) Ah mih people, how many of us would have been so smart eh? Not too many I believe, especially in suddenly moving from great wealth, and good family to abject poverty, no family and sickness for no apparent reason. Most of us would have been making a big fuss, cursing everybody and everything, including God, thinking Him unfaithful to His promises and our righteousness. Hear how the scholars explain those verses. ‘Job’s wife suggested that Job do what Satan had predicted: curse God. After all she had been through, it is no wonder she was ready to give up all hope. But Job recognized that both good and evil come from God’s hand, though one by His active will and the other by His permissive will. God can permit evil things to happen for good ends (cf. Gen.50:19-20). In all this did Job not sin is proof enough that Satan was wrong and was sorely defeated. Satan does not appear again in the book.’ Yes Friends, that’s the way to defeat Lucifer and stay in God’s good books. And just to remind us of the importance of controlling our tongues and our texting, let’s hear from James, as he continues his lecture on that small but very powerful and disruptive organ. ‘For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:  But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude (likeness) of God. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.’ (James 3:7-10) And all God’s people declared a loud and prayerful ‘Amen!’ Oh my people, we need to operate with a sense of wisdom and righteousness that teaches us first to listen and understand before we run off at the mouth, as too many of us are wont to do. And until we learn to better control our tongues and consequently our writing fingers, by first seeking God’s wisdom, we’ll be forever held in Lucifer’s evil grasp, which is certainly something we don’t want to happen. So let’s rise to this difficult challenge like true believers nuh, and in the process, make Jesus proud of us. Much LOVE!…and now Lord, what wait I for…my hope is in thee… (Ps.39:7)

Today’s Scrip-Bit 12 October 2012 Psalm 39:1

Psalm 39:1.    I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.

Ah Friends, you don’t know how many of us have been dying to see this day, this day called Friday! Some of us have been focused on it since leaving home on Monday morning to go to work. So much so, that by lunchtime on Monday, we’re asking, ‘Isn’t it Friday yet?’ And you wouldn’t believe the note of disbelief in our voices, that Friday could be taking so long to come. (smile) But that’s how much we seem to value Fridays. Well Friends, I come bearing good tidings, today is Friday. At last Friday has arrived. And all the worker bees joyfully declare: ‘Yeah! TGIF! Thank God is Friday yes!’  So to celebrate the universal looking-forward to the day before a short freedom from the drudgery of the workplace, let’s joyfully and enthusiastically chant our Friday Chant. As one beautiful voice now: ‘Oh Lord, thanks for getting me safely through another week of work! Amen.’ And now that we’ve straightened out our focus and perspective for the weekend, let’s have a gander at our Bit: ‘I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep (restrain) my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.’ And sadly, that’s something we all need to try and accomplish, especially in these times of so much easy and quick communication. The technology is encouraging us to talk a lot more than we should, and behold, the wicked are often the providers and controllers of the technology we use to communicate in this accelerated age of mass communication. Now what does that mean to the believer? In terms of our Bit, it means first of all that we shouldn’t become too deeply involved with, or totally entrenched in the social media apparatus, because they all have built in features to grab your private information and spread it to whomsoever they will, often for a price. So when we put too much of our private information out there, it’s scary to think of the places it could end up and the dishonest uses it could be put to. This social media set up is being used for a lot of fraudulent and criminal purposes. But then, if you can’t resist the temptation of the social media juggernaut, then please, I implore you again, be very careful what you say or write, because as we see everyday, somebody is getting in trouble for the info they shared. It’s also a matter of simple logic Friends; the more we say or write, the more opportunities we have to say or write the wrong thing. Remember what James says about the tongue? ‘Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold how great a matter (forest) a little fire kindleth (sets on fire). And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue (set) among our members (bodily parts), that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature (existence); and it is set on fire of hell.’ (James 3:5-6) Yes Friends, that’s the living truth, for our tongues have either directly or indirectly caused the majority of the problems in our world today. And in these times of plenty written communication, the tongue is now also wagging the finger when it writes. The sad part is that most of us don’t have much of real importance to say. Or if we do, it can often be communicated in seconds. So why keep on eh? Because we have been conditioned to think that the social media stuff is so great, the greatest thing since sliced bread, and if you’re not totally involved in it, then you’re outside the mainstream of society. Ah mih people, the evil, ungodly followers of Lucifer are just pulling our strings like a puppet, and we are allowing them to do so. Our Bit comes from a psalm of Bruh David, where he’s praying for self-understanding, and I’d like to suggest that we should all be searching for that, instead of just thoughtlessly expatiating in the new medium. It’s time for us to look inside ourselves to see what’s wrong in there, rather than outside, where there’s a lot of heartache and trouble to be found. Bruh David continues after our Bit: ‘I was dumb (mute) with silence, I held my peace, even from good; and my sorrow was stirred. My heart was hot within me; while I was musing (meditating) the fire burned: then spake I with my tongue, Lord, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am.’ (Ps.39:2-4) Yes Friends, it’s to our God we should be turning, not the evil stuff that’s sprouting up all over our world, nicely called the social media. Don’t get me wrong, it has it’s useful purposes, but too many of us are being too easily caught up in its all consuming web of lies and deceit. That’s enough for us to ponder today. More on the subject tomorrow if the Lord sees it fit to give us life. Till then, please, let’s keep our talking and writing to a minimum, so that we stand less chance of getting in trouble, and if we have a problem, please, let’s look to our Great God first. That’s as it ought to be. Much LOVE!…words of wisdom…stop…listen…and think…before talking or writing…  P.S. I sure hope I did that. (smile) Much LOVE!
