Oh Friends, yesterday was such a wonderful day… And all the heavenly hosts screamed ‘Liar!’ Awright, so it was possibly one of the worst days of my life. What with the fever, cough and cold still having me on their merry-go-round, playing havoc with my life. I don’t think I’ve ever slept so much in one day, and not all at once either. I’d sleep for an hour or so, get up, putter around for about half an hour, then go right back to bed. When you hear I wasn’t even interested in food, you must know how bad things were. At one point I made a ham and egg sandwich, but after eating about a third of it, I had to put it down. The only things I could handle were some fruits, and at times, even those I couldn’t stomach. One sure way of knowing that I’m sick is when I’m off my victuals. But through it all Friends, I kept singing this song: ‘Hello Jah, Jah. I’m depending on You. Hello Jah, Jah, I’m depending on You. I’ve got the fever and fresh cold, So I’m depending on You. I’ve got the fever and fresh cold, So I’m depending on You.’ I had to laugh when that came to mind, because the words are originally from an old Jamaican Rock-steady tune called “Hello Carol.’ But it suited my purpose admirably, for who else can I truly depend on eh? The man-made medicines I was taking were working in some form and fashion, but they would never be sufficient by themselves. The Lord is who makes them work! That’s why the psalmist could declare with such authority: ‘ I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.’ (Ps.121:1) He didn’t mean that the hills would help him, but the one who created the hills. And he expands it with the words of our Bit. ‘My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.’ So true Friends, so true! The real help of all believers is the Lord God Jehovah, creator of the universe and all therein. As the psalmist so wisely declares in Psalm 116: ‘It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.’ (Ps.118:8-9) And if you’re wondering why that is, then listen to these verses after our Bit. ‘He will not suffer thy foot to be moved (slip): he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is thy keeper (protector): the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve (keep) thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The Lord shall preserve (keep) thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for ever more.’ (Ps.121:3-8) Undeniable words of truth my people! Only our great and omnipotent God can do such mighty works. And Bruh David corroborates it by faithfully proclaiming: ‘Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.’ (Ps.124:8) As Job also faithfully declared to his supposed friends: ‘Though he slay me, yet will I trust him: but I will maintain (defend) mine own ways before him. He also shall be my salvation: for a hypocrite shall not come before him. Hear diligently my speech and my declaration with your ears.’ (Job 13:15-17) What faith my people! Can we be like Job, living by faith and not by sight? I sure hope so. But it’s not easy, as I can tell you from personal experience. Right now I’m not feeling the greatest, but the Bit must be written for that’s what I’ve agreed to do. And though I’m struggling some, I know deep down that by the time I send it out, it will make sense, because the Lord will not allow His Word to go out in any wishy-washy form. He will fix up any mistakes that I make, because He knows that I’m trying my best under rather adverse circumstances, and I only want to please and serve Him. To end, we’ll recall some poignant words of Bruh David: ‘And now, Lord, what wait I for? My hope is in thee.’ (Ps.39:7) I couldn’t have said it any better my Friends. The Lord God Almighty is where we have to put our faith and trust, if we really want to live a worthwhile life here on earth, then move on to an even better one in heaven. It’s not easy, but with the Lord’s help, it’s certainly doable. I’m chuckling here, because some of you might just be wishing that I stay sick all the time, because then the Bits seem to be shorter. But don’t count on it. (smile) Eventually the Lord will raise me back to full strength, and I will acknowledge His great work and LOVING-kindness with much faith and trust. Much LOVE!…you cannot be a true believer…unless…and until…your trust is solely in the Lord God of hosts…

Psalm 126:5. They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.
Oh Friends, like the old Jamaican music icon Prince Buster says in his song: ‘I feel so mash up today.’ Unfortunately though, it’s not from excess sexual activities, as he means (smile) but from the ravages of a cold and fever that’s been attacking my ole body for the last two days. And sadly it’s still not done yet. Ah mih breddren, I haven’t had a cold like this, what the ancients would call a real fresh cold, with my nose constantly blocked up but yet running, since I don’t know when. And I haven’t had a fever for even longer than that. Subsequently I’ve forgotten how lousy and miserable they make you feel. The fever was a real eye opener yes! I ached and pained in places I didn’t even know I could ache and pain in. Hn! Sometimes I didn’t even know whether I was coming or going. I’ve seen how it affects the duchess, but as they say, you never know what something is really like until you experience it yourself. Internally, I felt as cold as ice, while externally my body felt like it was on fire. Chuh! And obviously when I enquired of the Lord as to the purpose for this unexpected suffering, I got no answer. But I was lucid enough between my moans and groans to give Him thanks and affirm that though I didn’t understand or like what was happening, I was confident that it would pass – the problem though was how soon – and He would eventually work everything out for my good as He has promised in His Word. But Friends, I must admit that the Lord was merciful in one respect. He didn’t allow the cough to come on too. Otherwise that would have been the end of me, for the few times I chucked, it felt as though my head would split open. And the coughing would only have brought on my asthma. So at least I have that to be thankful for. (smile) Anyway, enough of my problems, some people have plenty worse ones. Let’s turn to our Bit: ‘They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.’ Yes my brethren, that’s the Lord’s promise to those who believe in Him and faithfully walk His path regardless of whatever comes against them. Now let’s continue to look at some scripture that reflects that promise. We’ll begin way back in the days of Ezra, when some of the Jews returned to Jerusalem from exile in Babylon and began rebuilding the Lord’s sanctuary. ‘And when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the Lord, they set the priests (the priests stood) in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites the sons of Asaph with cymbals, to praise the Lord, after the ordinance of David king of Israel. And they sang together by course in (responsibly) praising and giving thanks unto the Lord; because he is good, for his mercy endureth forever toward Israel. And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid. But many of the priests and Levites and chief of the fathers, who were ancient men, that had seen the first house, when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, wept with a loud voice, and many shouted aloud for joy; So that the people could not discern the noise of the shout of joy from the noise of the weeping of the people: for the people shouted with a loud shout, and the noise was heard afar off. (Ezra 3:10-13) Oh my brethren, yuh see how great was the joy of the people, especially the old folks who had known the old temple and never believed they would live to see the foundations of a new one laid. You couldn’t even discern the shouts of joy from that of the weeping. They had sown in tears of faith in their long exile and captivity in Babylon, and eventually the Lord had worked on the hearts of the pagan kings to give them permission and provision to return to their homeland, so they were able to shed tears of joy at the rebuilding of the Lord’s house. Our next scripture comes from Galatians, where Bruh Paul warns the believers: ‘Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not (do not lose heart). As we therefore have opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.’ (Gal.6:7-10) Oh Friends, in truth, what we sow, we shall surely reap. But hear the greatest promise of all nuh. It comes from Revelations, where John sees the new heaven and the new earth. ‘And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle (presence) of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and he shall be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away.’ (Rev.21:3-4) Oh my people, if we stay faithful and strong, sowing good seed even in our time of misery and disaster, all those tears of sorrow, will be replaced by ones of Joy, when Jesus returns to claim His kingdom. So please, let’s hold on tightly to that most magnificent promise, and stay rooted and purposed in Jesus, whatever comes our way. Remember, the smart money is on Jesus. Much LOVE!…whatever the problem…we can overcome it…through steadfast faith in Jesus…

Aw Friends, it’s Monday again… And behold I am suddenly bombarded by hooting and hollering, clapping and joyful shouts of ‘TGIM! Thank God it’s Monday!’ Hn! And see me just standing there nuh, rooted to the ground in shock, my mouth and eyes opened wide in surprise and amazement. Okay, okay, so I have the cold, and it might just be making me a touch light-headed. But doesn’t that reaction to a Monday morning just sound wonderful? God’s children ecstatic to go out on the first day of the work week, couldn’t be anything but wonderful…and miraculous too! That’s what I’m hoping for, working towards and praying on. And one day, with the Good Lord’s help obviously, I’m going to achieve that goal, because I believe, and I have faith. (smile) Oh my people, for the few that are above par this morning, and for the many that are sub-par, let’s sing our Monday Morning Battle Hymn as if we really mean it nuh. Let’s put our whole being into it. Let’s wake up the heavenly hosts this morning with a real rousing rendition of our battle Hymn. All together now: ‘Oh Lord God Almighty, Creator of the universe and all therein! We, your humble servants, praise your Holy Name and thank you that this Monday morning we have jobs to go to; jobs we don’t like, jobs that are unfair, difficult and even dangerous, but which serve a useful purpose here on earth; keeping lives and families together. We also thank you Father for the renewed vitality and enthusiasm you’ve wrought in our weary souls over the last two days. It’s that rejuvenation of Spirit which allows us now to sally forth with confidence into the evil, ungodly world that surrounds us, to begin a new week of work, constantly buffeted and bombarded by the enemy’s wicked taunts, wiles and lies. But heavenly Father, we’re not afraid, for we know we’re invincible, sure conquerors, once we’re wearing your powerful, protective spiritual armour. We surrender our all to you, and humbly ask that you let your incredible aura of LOVE, the Holy Spirit, lead and guide all your servants as we go out to meet the enemy in battle. Fill us with steadfast faith, so that we can make worthwhile inroads into the enemy’s ranks, and thereby further your glorious kingdom. We pray this in the Holy Name of your Son, and our Saviour, Jesus Christ. AMEN!’ Awright mih breddren! All heaven sat up and took notice, riotously applauded and even gave us a Standing O. Wow! Let’s go out now and put all those daring words into action and make Jesus real proud of us. Yes my fellow followers of Christ, though it’s hard on plenty of us this Monday morning, let’s get out there and bring what our Bit says to fulfilment. ‘They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.’ And that’s the gospel truth Friends! As the verse after the Bit rightly declares: ‘He that goeth forth (to and fro) and weepeth, bearing precious seed (for sowing), shall doubtless come again with rejoicing (shouts of joy), bringing his sheaves with him.’ (Ps.126:6) And I’m talking here from hard, personal experience, not hearsay, because right now I’m feeling crappy, what with the constant sneezing, my nose sore and running like a pipe and all the various other aspects of the common cold, but the Lord, in His eternal wisdom raised the level of joy in my spirit, caused me to write our entertaining intro, then led me to an appropriate Bit. There were some other interesting ones, but as soon as I saw that one, I knew that it was destined for today. Chuh! I hate having to stop every so often and gingerly wipe my sore nose! But anyway mih people, let’s ramp up our joy today nuh! As I keep reminding us, Christians should be the happiest and most joyful people on planet earth. What with all the good news and stuff we have to look forward to in communion with Jesus, who wouldn’t be joyful eh? But sadly, we’re still some of the most rude, grouchy, unmannerly, gloomy, miserable, resentful people around, even though we live in one of the most prosperous and free areas of the world. Now let’s look at some scripture that talks about the joy of the believer, the joy inherent in believing. First off is Isaiah, re Israel restored to the glory of Zion. ‘And the ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.’ (Is.35:10) And Isaiah was so sure of that promise, that he repeats it almost word for word in Chapter 51:11. Please read that for yourself. Meanwhile, Jeremiah, also in talking about the restoration of Israel, proudly proclaims: ‘They shall come with weeping, and with supplications will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters in a straight way, wherein they shall not stumble: for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my first born. Hear the word of the Lord, O ye nations, and declare it in the isles (coastlands) afar off, and say, He that scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd doth his flock. For the Lord hath redeemed Jacob, and ransomed him from the hand of him that was stronger than he. Therefore they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall flow together to the goodness of the Lord, for wheat, and for (new) wine, and for oil, and for the young of the flock and of the herd: and their soul shall be as a (well) watered garden; and they shall not sorrow anymore at all. Then shall the young virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow. And I will satiate (fill) the soul of the priests with fatness (abundance), and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, saith the Lord.’ (Jer.31:9-14) Oh Friends, I didn’t plan to put in all of that, but after reading it, and hearing the wonderful promises, I had no choice. That means we’ll have to leave the rest until tomorrow, God willing. But my people, what more can we ask of our great, LOVING, merciful and forgiving God eh? Nothing really! For He’s kept all of His promises, given us His heart of LOVE, His Holy Spirit, and His sacrificed Son. There’s no more left to give, so let’s appreciate it, and as obedient followers, go out and do the same; give of ourselves, sow good seeds even in our most difficult times, so that eventually we shall reap an abundant harvest of joy. That’s our raison d’être here on earth. So let’s do it without too much complaining. Remember, Jesus never complained about the terrible ordeal He suffered to save our unworthy sinful souls, and neither should we. Much LOVE!…remember that old hymn…bringing in the sheaves…bringing in the sheaves…we shall come rejoicing…bringing in the sheaves…

Isaiah 39:8. Then said Hezekiah to Isaiah, Good is the word of the Lord which thou hast spoken. He said moreover, For there shall be peace and truth in my days.
Oh Friends, what shall we say to this new day that the Lord has made eh? The best thing we can do is be thankful for it; be thankful that we’re blessed more than most of the other earthlings. Then to show our true Christian brotherhood, we should make a decision to actually share some of those many blessings with the less fortunate, because that’s why we’re so blessed. Yes Friends, please remember that all we’re blessed with is not solely for ourselves and our immediate families, but also to share with friends, neighbours and strangers, any others who are in need. We’re supposed to be generous sharers not greedy hoarders. But I doubt that we’re doing a very good job of it since there are so many in need who are not receiving any blessings from us. And please note, we cannot fulfill Jesus’ mandate unless we’re willing to give of what we have, sometimes even sacrificially. ‘Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.’ (Matt.25:40) Remember true Christianity isn’t only talk, but also plenty action! It’s good to tell people about God, but how does that help the hungry, the homeless, naked and sick eh? We first need to minister to their physical wants, then tell them the good news of the gospel. That way they can actually see and experience the gospel in real action. And having reminded us of our basic purpose, let’s turn to our Bit. ‘Then said Hezekiah to Isaiah, Good (Just) is the word of the Lord which thou hast spoken. He said moreover, For (at least) there shall be peace and truth in my days.’ Yesterday we saw how the story unfurled that caused our Bit. Today, we’ll look at a few other examples where men of faith simply accepted the Lord’s authority and wisdom without fighting back. We’ll begin way back in Genesis 24, when Abraham sent his servant back to his homeland to find a wife for his son Isaac. The servant, as the Lord would have it ended up at the city of Nahor. Using his smarts, he stopped by a well outside the city because he knew that at that hour the women came out to draw water. Then he implored the Lord to show kindness to his master Abraham. ‘And let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that thou hast showed kindness unto my master.’ (Gen.24:14) And before he was even done speaking, the beautiful Rebecca appeared and did exactly as he had implored the Lord. Ah mih people, here we see how our God really works in mysterious ways His high-level plans to accomplish. Because Rebecca ‘who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham’s brother…’ (Gen.24:15) I believe that made her Abrahams grand-niece. Anyway, the long and short of the story is that Rebecca’s brother Laban and father Bethuel came out to the well to meet Abraham’s servant, and after he told them what had happened; ‘Then Laban and Bethuel answered and said, The thing proceedeth from the Lord: we cannot speak unto thee bad or good. Behold Rebecca is before thee, take her, and go, and let her be thy master’s son’s wife, as the Lord hath spoken.’ (Gen.24:50-51) Yes Friends, our God is wonderful! Is there a better dramatist, a better matchmaker? No way! Everything just fell into place like a jigsaw puzzle, that Laban and Bethuel had no choice but to give their approval. Now here’s another example of simply accepting the Lord’s word, this time though because of wrongdoing. We find it in 1 Samuel chapter 3. This happens when Samuel tells Eli, the chief priest what God had said about the destruction he would cause to Eli’s family, because of his failure to rein in his two evil sons. And when Samuel was done telling Eli of the promised demise, Eli’s words were simply: ‘It is the Lord let him do what seemeth good.’ (1 Sam.3:18) Oh my brethren, sometimes we just have to bow to the Lord’s actions without a fuss or fight. Remember He’s the omnipotent One, whose intellect, purpose and plans are higher than ours. He is the controller of everything. And besides, causing a fuss when the Lord’s made a decision, doesn’t usually do us any good. So why bother and get all upset eh? Sometimes the Lord’s even trying to test us, to see our response to calamity and to His dictates. And we’ll end with one more example, that from Acts 5, where the Jewish council in Jerusalem is trying to figure out how to stop Peter and the apostles from preaching Christ crucified to the multitudes, since they hadn’t listened the first time, telling them, ‘We ought to obey God rather than man.’ (Acts 5:29) Then they preached Christ to the council. (Acts 5:30-32) Hn! This only made them angry. ‘When they heard that, they were cut to the heart (furious), and took counsel to slay them.’ (Acts 5:33) However, one of the wise and respected council members, Gamaliel, Bruh Paul’s teacher, cautioned them. After recalling two other religious upstarts, Theudas, and Judas of Galilee, who eventually perished and their followers dispersed, he declared: ‘And now I say unto you, Refrain (keep away) from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought: But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.’ (Acts 5:38-39) Oh Friends, let’s ponder on those examples today nuh, and see if are any things going on in our lives where we are fighting God, and stop it. That’s wisdom at its zenith, because we’re never going to win those battles. Much LOVE!…the best way to function on this earth…is just to let God be God in our lives…

Oh Friends, it seems that the white stuff’s been flying around in places it doesn’t usually fly, like parts of the U.S South. In the last week or so, it’s been battering places like Texas and Maine, now Virginia and other southern states are seeing snow, to which they’re not accustomed. Unfortunately, the white powder has also blanketed parts of Eastern and Western Canada. Thankfully though, it hasn’t done much in my area, until yesterday evening. Before that, we were having some spring like temps, and what snow was on the ground was melting. And even now, the snow we have is not a lot. ‘Praise the Lord!’ I’m sorry for the many, all over the continent, who will get caught up in the woeful traffic conditions on their way to work this morning. But just remember that it’s Friday, give a joyful shout of ‘TGIF! Thank God it’s Friday!’ then take your time driving on the snow covered, icy or slushy roads. But yuh know, it’s unfortunate and somewhat unfair that in places like T&T, this Friday will be truly very joyful with all the pre- Carnival activity that’s taking place down there. However, we up here in the cold northern climes know that though life is not fair, our God is good, and He will look after us in whatever untenable or unpalatable situations we find ourselves in. And to give credence to that belief, let’s chant our Friday Chant with as much enthusiasm as we can manage. ‘Oh Lord, thanks for getting me safely through another week of work! It hasn’t been easy, but with your generous help, I made it through. Now, please help me to get sufficient fun, fellowship, rest and relaxation in these two short days off, so that I can be renewed and refreshed in soul, body and mind, to go back out and do it all over again next week, furthering your glorious kingdom with each step I take. I pray this in Jesus name. Amen.’ Now that should serve to quell whatever anxiety we felt and give us the right perspective in handling the weekend. And our Bit today is a rather interesting one. ‘Then said Hezekiah to Isaiah, Good (Just) is the word of the Lord which thou hast spoken. He said moreover, For (at least) there shall be peace and truth in my days.’ Now why would Hezekiah, king of Judah, make such a reply eh? According to the scholars’, the story goes like this: A former king of Babylon, Merodach-baladan, apparently trying to wrest Babylon back from the new Assyrian ruler, Sennacherib, sends an ambassadorial delegation to Hezekiah, with a present, letters and congratulations on his recent recovery from illness. Now the king was also possibly looking for allies in his quest to retake Babylon, and Hezekiah, somewhat impressed by this attention, showed the king’s messengers all his treasures. The Good Book declares that: ‘there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah showed them not.’ (Is.39:2) Shortly thereafter, the prophet Isaiah shows up and asks Hezekiah about the men and their business. Hezekiah tells him that they came from Babylon. ‘Then said he (Isaiah), what have they seen in thine house? And Hezekiah answered, All that is in mine house have they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have not showed them.’ (Is.39:4) Ah Friends, obviously vanity and pride had something to do with Hezekiah’s behaviour; showing total strangers all his treasure. But that’s not so strange since even today we do it too. When friends come to visit, and even virtual strangers, we take them around our houses or businesses to show them our treasure, not knowing what’s in their minds. That sort of boasting or showing off of our earthly possessions, has often proven to be disastrous, for unawares we have entertained thieves and scoundrels, who have subsequently caused us grief, in one form or another. In Hezekiah’s case, Isaiah used the incident to prophesy the imminent Babylonian captivity of Judah. ‘Then said Isaiah to Hezekiah, Hear the word of the Lord of hosts: Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store until this day, shall be carried to Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the Lord. And thy sons that shall issue (descend) from thee, which thou shalt beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.’ (Is.39:5-7) And our Bit today, is Hezekiah’s answer to Isaiah’s prophetic vision. Now can you imagine giving that sort of meek, well if the Lord says so, is so, response to such a catastrophic prophecy? I doubt very many of us would, because we’d be too concerned about our children and our earthly possessions. We’d possibly slap Isaiah upside the head and run him out of our house. But Hezekiah took it coolly enough, possibly because he realized his serious error in judgement that his pride and vanity had caused. Then, sensing that there wasn’t anything he could do to change the situation, decided to calmly accept God’s will, whatever it turned out to be. He was at least heartened by the fact that there would be peace and truth during his reign. Oh Friends, perhaps we can learn something today from Hezekiah’s acceptance of God’s will, especially when we’re wrong. Instead of acting out, as we tend to do when it doesn’t coincide with our desires, we can repent, apologize or admit the error of our ways, and ask for the Lord’s forgiveness. It’s much better than making a fuss or trying to fight the Lord’s will. Ah my brethren, please let’s remember that earth is not our true home, just a way-station on our journey to that marvellous resting place Jesus has promised. That means we cannot afford to let the earthly possessions in our stewardship take us away from the true reality, that heaven’s our home, and what’s really important is the treasures that we store there, not the undistinguished things of the earth. Proverbs 1:10. My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.
Oh Friends, another day in our earthly pilgrimage is dawning, bright and beautiful in some physical locations, dark and dreary in others. But yuh know what; in all the hearts that know and LOVE Jesus, the day is dawning bright and beautiful with a sure promise of great things to come, regardless of the physical surroundings. Now today, I want to share a few quotes re virtual reality and the real reality, from this book I’ve been reading, ‘The Incredible Power of Grace – When God’s Assurance Becomes Your Own,’ by Roland R. Hegstad. Oh my brethren, in this modern age of almost instant communication, we’ve become so caught up in computers and all they represent, especially the chance to play in cyberspace and fantasize in what’s termed virtual reality. And as computers become more important, more invasive in our lives, unfortunately a by-product is that we tend to forget, lose sight or understand what is true reality. Author Hegstad advises that to truly understand what’s happening, we have to define our world in small frames of reference, like a photographer does when taking a picture. That frame can only hold so much information, but it’s invariably a true reflection of what’s there. He says: ‘In short, to define reality correctly, we must frame our world through the viewfinder of God’s Word – a viewfinder that reminds us that virtual reality is banishing face-to-face, heart-to-heart communication and friendship that God desires us to share.’ (Page 104) And isn’t that the REAL truth Friends? Virtual reality causes us to lose the reality of interacting with each other on a truly human, face to face basis. It’s become so silly and widespread now to see a group of supposed friends sitting together without any conversation between them, because they are all so busy texting or doing whatever on their communicating devices. Sometimes they can even be sitting together and texting each other rather than talking. How silly is that eh? And the sad part is that’s all most of our young people know and are accustomed to! Oh my people, I believe as author Hegstad does, that our world is quickly losing touch with the real reality and replacing it with the virtual stuff, which is not, and can never be the genuine article, but will always be a mere approximation. And do we want our lives to be ruled by mere approximations? I think not! So please, let’s not get so caught up in the cyberspace and the virtual realities of this world, that we lose sight of who and whose we are. As author Hegstad points out: ‘In God’s vision reality is something more than virtual: it’s a Person, a Person with nail-pierced hands: it’s adoption into the family of God, taking His name and becoming part of His own indestructible heredity.’ (Page 108) That therefore means, ‘Reality has a face! Reality is a person, the Lord Jesus Christ! And we are reality because we are created in His image. We are not just actors on a galaxy-sized Hollywood set. Here and now, we are God’s children. For the child of God, reality is never freedom from individuality, but freedom at last to be finally and fully oneself.’ (Page 114) And ‘When we lose touch with the reality that is Jesus Christ, we also lose self-identity – the concept of who we really are: here and now God’s son; here and now God’s daughter; here and now part of His own indestructible heredity; here and now LOVED beyond comprehension.’ (Page 106) Ah mih people, computers have their uses, as tools, but sadly, because of the world’s forceful push, we are allowing them to invade and control the very essence of our lives. In many ways, they are doing what our Bit so rightly advises against. ‘My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.’ Yes my brethren, this communication and information age is playing serious havoc with our lives. Granted, it gives us more opportunity to spread the Word, but by the same token it also provides more opportunity for us to be grossly mislead. And believe me, a lot of us are being seriously misled, duped and scammed by plenty of the stuff out there in the cyberspace and virtual reality worlds. We need to take much of it with plenty grains of salt. The most important thing in our lives is still, and will always be the WORD OF GOD! Now here’s a passage of scripture that describes God’s instruction to the Israelites, in terns of our Bit, re idolaters, way back when. ‘If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom (you cherish), or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou nor thy fathers; Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh (near) unto thee, or far off from thee, from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth; Thou shalt not consent (yield) unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him. But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be the first upon him to put him to death, and afterward the hand of all the people. And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die, because he hath sought to thrust thee away from the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do no more such wickedness as this is among you.’ (Deut.13:6-11) Oh Friends, it does seem a bit harsh, but it’s God’s Word and shows how serious He is about His supremacy and enticements to sin, especially worshipping idols and other so-called gods. So my people, in this mad rush to cyberspace and virtual reality, let’s not forget what is truly important in our lives – the WORD OF GOD – for if we do, we’ll certainly pay a hefty penalty for it – eternal separation from Almighty God. Much LOVE!…remember the first Commandment…Thou shalt have no other gods before me… (Ex.20:3)

Well a good Tuesday morning to all you beautiful people out there on Planet Earth! I’d first like to reassure us that the Lord God Jehovah is still in control of all things universal from His throne in the high heavens. And as always, He’s beginning this new day with new mercies and blessings for His BELOVED children. And all God’s children exclaimed a loud and grateful: “Praise the Lord! Amen!’ Yes Friends, our God is indeed great and worthy to be praised, so please let’s do it with this beautiful poem prayer from Dr. Robert H. Schuller’s Hour of Power Devotional. It’s simply titled: BEAUTY. ‘Thank you, Father, for filling the world with beauty. I thank you for the beauty of life, the beauty of LOVE, the beauty of children, and the beauty of old people. I thank you for the beauty of Christ and for the beauty of any life when Christ is invited through the Holy Spirit. Thank you, Father, that you have made my life beautiful too. Amen.’ Oh my people, whenever I come upon such interesting, energizing, encouraging words as those, I feel a sudden thrill, a compelling desire to share it with you. Why, you ask? Because it’s that kind of humble, but yet positive and confident prayer that we need in our prayer lives today. Remember Friends, prayer should be alive and bold. As the author of Hebrews advises: ‘Let us therefore come boldly (confidently) unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.’ (Heb.4:16) Not in a sad, sorrowful, wishy-washy manner, though yet with humility and contrition. And I like the scholars’ comment on that verse. ‘Only Christianity provides such boldness for sinful men before a holy God, and that boldness is possible only because of our High Priest. The figure of a throne suggests a place of authority and provision. It is the place to obtain God’s grace when it is especially needed.’ Ah mih people, how with all that goodness, LOVE, mercy, forgiveness and compassion, could we not LOVE and revere Jesus and our heavenly Father eh? But enough of my ramblings, (smile) let’s get to our Bit, which today enshrines in it a very important warning and piece of advice from Cousin Sol. ‘My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.’ Oh my brethren, that’s a scripture passage all mankind ought to have constantly held up right before their very eyes, so that we don’t get in as much trouble as we do, straying from the straight and narrow path that Jesus desires us to follow. And all that basically means is that when evildoers come around encouraging us to do wrong, we should refuse their entreaties. The scholar’s have this to say about it. ‘The wise son rejects the invitation of criminals who promise wealth without work (v.13). The verse stresses the individual’s responsibility to avoid the tempter’s snare. (cf. James 1:14,15). And since I had intended to share those verses from James with you anyway, I’ll share them now. ‘But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust (desires), and enticed. Then when lust (desire) hath conceived, it bringeth forth (gives birth to) sin: and sin, when it is finished (full grown), bringeth forth death. Do not err (be deceived), my BELOVED brethren.’ (James 1:14-16) And that’s gospel truth people! ‘For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through (in) Jesus Christ our Lord.’ (Rom.6:23) There again Friends, we have every right to LOVE our Holy Trinity, because instead of giving us what we truly deserve for our abominations, death, they give us life, that is life forever, through grace, with all our sins having been paid for by the most wonderful Son and Saviour ever, Jesus Christ. Oh mih people, the ole fella’s on a roll this morning! (smile) And would you believe that when I began, the only thing I had to write was the poem, BEAUTY. That just goes to show how truly marvellous, faithful and helpful is our God, when we sincerely try to walk His pathway and do His bidding. As Bruh David so rightly says in his prayer for self-understanding. ‘And now Lord, what wait I for? My hope is in thee.’ (Ps.39:7) Yes, fellow believers, that’s the best, and should be the first place we to turn for help! And we’ll end with a wonderful example of not being enticed by sinners. We’re talking about Bruh Joseph with Potiphar’s wife. ‘And it came to pass after these things, that his master’s wife cast her eyes (longing eyes) upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me. But he refused, and said unto his master’s wife, Behold, my master wotteth (knows) not what is with me in the house (what is in the house, except through me), and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand: There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back anything from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?’ (Gen.39:7-9) Good question Friends? And please note, that Bruh Joseph, though he was concerned about breaking Potiphar’s trust, he was more concerned about sinning against his God. Unfortunately though, all his good efforts were in vain, as we know how Potiphar’s wife set him up, crying rape. And though Potiphar might have been somewhat leery of the accusation, he had no choice but to jail Bruh Joseph, which was all a part of God’s overall plan. But that just goes to show Friends, that even when we follow the tried and true path, the evildoers can still sometimes thwart us. And whenever that happens, sad and unfair as it may be, we still need to stay strong and faithful – possibly even more then – because our God has promised that whatever comes against us, if we stand strong and true like Bruh Joseph, He will bring us through the fire, sometimes unscathed, but always stronger and more like Jesus character wise. And that’s my sermon, no, sorry, my lesson for today. (smile) More on this tomorrow, provided God’s in favour. Until then, let’s be careful not to fall into any enticements of the enemy, and if by chance we do, let’s quickly repent and turn to the Lord for help. Much LOVE!…be sober…be vigilant…because your adversary…the devil…as a roaring lion…walketh about…seeking whom he may destroy… (1 Pet.5:8)
