Today’s Scrip-Bit 6 April 2011 Psalm 23:1‏

Psalm 23:1.    The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

Oh Friends, I don’t know what happened in your area today, well yesterday, but the wind howled all day in mine. A neighbour was nice enough to put my garbage bin safely by my garage door, but I found my blue box (recycling) way up the lane. So regardless of how man forecasts it, who knows what will happen today or tomorrow, whether it will be rain, snow or wind, or even a combination of all three? However my people, it’s of the utmost importance that we believe the sentiments expressed in our Bit. Come what may: ‘The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.’ And all God’s people declared a hearty and grateful; ‘Thanks be to God!’  Ah Friends, while asking for guidance in finding a Bit, I opened the Good Book to Psalms 21, 22 and three verses of Psalm 23. Obviously I perused the first two to see if that’s where I was being guided, but inevitably my eyes focused on some of the most famous, encouraging and very important words in the world, and I felt the Spirit’s tug at my heart strings. So matter fix! (smile) Anyway, why are those words so important? Above all, they talk about kindness and caring, things that our world so sadly lacks today. ‘The Lord is my shepherd…’ What’s a shepherd’s job? He cares for sheep, which are pretty dumb animals. And believe me Friends, these days humans sure are acting even dumber than sheep. Never before in man’s history have we so badly needed someone more powerful and sensible to care for us, to lead and guide us. And the only living being who fits that bill is the Lord God Jehovah. Bruh David’s times were also very tremulous and worrisome, but certainly not as evil and bent on destruction as we are today. Neither did they have weapons of mass destruction – we give them such nice names- which can destroy everything that God has so LOVINGLY created. It seems that the more educated and enlightened man becomes, the more depraved and destructive his basic nature also becomes. And as we’ve been saying for the last couple days, our world is in such great turmoil that the ONLY ONE who can fix it, is the ONE who created it; Almighty God. And though the Lord has been marvellously playing the Good Shepherd to a handful of us, the majority of human sheep are so dumb that they’ve run away from the kindly shepherd and become lost and floundering in their own foolishness. Ah mih people, why would anyone in their right minds leave the Good Shepherd’s flock to go off on their own, or tag along behind the biggest fool ever, Lucifer, who can’t even help himself, much less others? It just doesn’t make any sense when the Good Shepherd provides all their needs. Hear how Isaiah puts it when talking about comfort through trust in the Lord. ‘He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.’ (Is.40:11) Oh Friends, how much better than that can it get eh? Not much! And is Lucifer willing to do anything of that ilk? Certainly not! He’s only interested in death and destruction, not life and compassion! But yet oodles of people are running away from a most kind, gracious, merciful and caring God, when common sense dictates they should instead be running to readily embrace Him and all that He so nobly stands for. Ah Lord eh! But sorry, I forgot that these days the human animal is not blessed with a whole lot, if any, of common sense. And the great thing about it all, is that the Lord recognized our limitations and failings and faithfully promised to replace our ruthless and incapable shepherds (leaders), with one of greater wisdom, integrity and compassion: ‘And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd. And I the Lord will be their God, and my servant David a prince among them; I the Lord have spoken it.’ (Ezek. 34:23-24) And he did it with Jesus! But unfortunately mankind is so steeped in his sinful ungodly ways, that he is very loath to accept the LOVING-kindness of Jesus Christ, that wonderful shepherd. All I can say Friends, is how sad. For if the majority of humans would just accept the peace and goodwill of Jesus, this world would be such a beautiful place in which to dwell. However, Beelzebub’s boys are currently running the show, and doing their level best to keep Jesus out. But little do they know that that’s impossible if we, the wise sheep that have stayed under the Good Shepherd’s umbrella, were to fight them tooth and nail, to bring them to their senses, so that they won’t be lost and separated forever from the Lord. I know it’s not an easy task mih breddren, but it’s what our Lord and Saviour Jesus requires of us. And we can do it, because He never asks us to do something without empowering us to do it. So please, let’s put on all of our battle armour and get out there and fight the good fight to bring those lost sheep back to the fold of the Good Shepherd. He is depending on us and we can’t afford to let Him down. More on this tomorrow, if the Lord desires. Till then, please LOVE Your God, LIVE Your Faith and SPREAD His Word. Much LOVE!…only in proportion to our efforts…will the lost sheep be found and saved…

Today’s Scrip-Bit 5 April 2011 Psalm 46:1‏

Psalm 46:1.    God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

And the rains came and washed all the snow away. Glory Hallelujah! Yes Friends, that’s what happened yesterday morning. The snow didn’t even last till daylight. Our God’s such a good God! And that’s exactly why so many people of great faith, all down through the ages, have pinned all their hopes on Him, have surrendered all their dreams to His guidance. As Bruh David so faithfully and rightly declares in our Bit: ‘God is our refuge and strength, a very present help (an abundantly available help) in trouble.’ Oh people, please note the explanation of ‘a very present help’ – ‘an abundantly available help.’ Yes Friends, help is always available from our God, whether we’re in trouble or not, and in abundance too, because He’s not a mean, stingy, parsimonious Deity, but a very kind and generous benefactor to all who sincerely seek and worship Him. As Moses, in exhorting the Israelites to obedience gloriously proclaimed: ‘For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them (a god so near), as the Lord our God is in all things that we call him for? And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgements so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?’ (Deut.4:7-8) And the answer to both questions my brethren is a big, resounding ‘NONE!’ However Friends, the next verse is the kicker: ‘Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul (yourself) diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons’ sons.’ (Deut.4:9) Now that’s where we have badly fallen down my people. We haven’t sought the Lord as diligently as we should, or kept His statutes, neither have we taught them to our children. How sad! And that’s why our world is in so much turmoil, for where there is no God, or in our case, the people don’t listen to the Word of God or His spokesperson, then they perish. But fortunately, as our Bit says, we can always find solace and strength in abundance if we turn to the Lord in times of trouble, for; ‘He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire.’ (Ps.46:9) So my people, the logic is simple. If we want the strife and enmity currently predominating our world to end, all we need to do is sincerely turn to the Lord God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, who authoritatively tells us: ‘Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.’ (Ps.46:10) And He will be exalted, when we believers get our act together and truly understand that we’re in a very serious spiritual war with a lot at stake. All the hopes and dreams of Jesus and His Church are dependent on our righteousness and good example to the heathen. And if we don’t get up and do it, then tell me Friends, who will eh? The Lord’s depending on us to fight the war here on earth, to get all His children to come together, to worship and adore Him, to come to salvation and eternal life, so that He will lose none of them to death and eternal separation with Lucifer. That’s how important our earthly task is. And if we’re not focused on it, then we’re not helping in the fight against Lucifer and his evil minions. We might even be hindrances, obliquely helping the enemy by our refusal to actively join the fray. But all is not lost my Friends, for our God is indeed a gracious and merciful God, as Bruh David tells it in Psalm 145. And if you’re in trouble, you just need to lay bare your heart to Him, because: ‘The Lord is nigh (near) unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth. He will fulfill the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them. The Lord preserveth all them that LOVE him: but all the wicked will he destroy. My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord: and let all flesh bless his holy name for ever and ever.’ (Ps.145:18-21) And all God’s people uttered a loud ‘Amen!’  So Friends, in these troubled and worrisome times, it is imperative that we turn to the ONLY ONE who can help us; the same ONE who created us; the Lord God Jehovah! So please, let’s genuinely turn to Him TODAY, while there is yet time, that as He has promised in His Holy Word; we may LIVE. Much LOVE!…stand up…stand up…for Jesus…the trumpet’s call obey…till every foe is vanquished…and Christ is Lord indeed…

Today’s Scrip-Bit 4 April 2011 Psalm 46:1‏

Psalm 46:1.     God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Oh Friends, I don’t know if the Lord is in a humorous mood or what, but in certain parts of Toronto, there is fresh snow on the ground.  It was supposed to rain, and it did begin as heavenly blessings, but somewhere along the line it turned into the unwanted, wet, white stuff. Chuh! Most likely though it will be gone by mid-morning. ‘Sing praises!’ But for those of us getting on the highways this wet and slippery Monday morning, please be careful. And to bolster our energy, all the different kinds, let’s really get into our Monday Morning Battle Hymn. ‘Oh Lord God Almighty, Creator of the universe and all therein! We, your humble servants, praise your Holy Name and thank you that this Monday morning we have jobs to go to; jobs we don’t like, jobs that are unfair, difficult and even dangerous, but which serve a useful purpose here on earth; keeping lives and families together. We also thank you Father for the renewed vitality and enthusiasm you’ve wrought in our weary souls over the last two days. It’s that rejuvenation of Spirit which allows us now to sally forth with confidence into the evil, ungodly world that surrounds us, to begin a new week of work, constantly buffeted and bombarded by the enemy’s wicked taunts, wiles and lies. But heavenly Father, we’re not afraid, for we know we’re invincible, sure conquerors, once we’re wearing your powerful, protective spiritual armour. We surrender our all to you, and humbly ask that you let your incredible aura of LOVE, the Holy Spirit, lead and guide all your servants as we go out to meet the enemy in battle. Fill us with steadfast faith, so that we can make worthwhile inroads into the enemy’s ranks, and thereby further your glorious kingdom. We pray this in the Holy Name of your Son, and our Saviour, Jesus Christ. AMEN!’ Wow mih people! That certainly was inspiring, and it’s also a perfect segue into our Bit: ‘God is our refuge and strength, a very present help (an abundantly available help) in trouble.’ That’s why we just prayed to Him, asking for help, guidance and strength. And because of His kind and caring awesome power, our spirits and lives are indeed energized, made strong and fearless. ‘Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst (the heart) of the sea; though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.’ (Ps.46:2-3) Ah Friends, I don’t know how unbelievers do it nuh, but if I didn’t have the Lord’s strength and wisdom to guide me, I’d probably be constantly worrying and eating my heart out over the numerous problems that face me everyday. Now that doesn’t stop the problems from coming against us, but it definitely gives us the wherewithal to deal with them in a calm and rational manner. And that’s why I’m encouraging us to put all our faith and trust in the Most High God Jehovah, TODAY. And if you’ve already done that, then actively invoke His help in your lives, reach out to Him, constantly call on His Holy Name, while walking in obedience to His will. Please note my brethren, that the last part of that sentence is even more important than the first, for it’s very easy to cry out to God in times of trouble, but being obedient in stressful circumstances can be extremely difficult. The good part though is that He does give marks for a sincere heart and genuine effort. Oh Friends, as I keep stressing, the only thing we need more of in this crazy, evil, violent world is GOD, because He is the ONLY ONE who can successfully help us deal with the many problems our world is currently facing. For us to make it through these dark, tremulous times, we need more godly people exhibiting true godly behaviour, rather than the present predominance of evil. However Friends, time and space are up, but this is such an important topic that we’ll address it again tomorrow, our God in favour. And we’ll close with some immortal words of Bruh David, rightly encouraging us to stand strong in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. ‘In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.’ (Ps.62:7-8) Truly words of wisdom my people! Much LOVE!…our universe is so highly specialized…that only its Creator…can fix it…

Today’s Scrip-Bit 3 April 2011 Psalm 18:19‏

Psalm 18:19.     He brought me forth also into a large place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me.

Oh Friends, it’s a beautiful Sunday morning! The birds are singing joyful songs of praise, the air is fresh with the clean breath of spring, we are alive and kicking, and most important of all, our omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent God is securely enthroned in His high heaven controlling everything, with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ seated at His right hand advocating and interceding for us, while the Holy Spirit works within us here on earth. Wow! And all God’s people gratefully declared: ‘All praise, honour, thanks and glory be to the Holy Trinity, that guides us with such deep LOVE and understanding!’ And now my people, if we belong to a Christian denomination that celebrates the Sabbath on Sunday, then it’s time to get moving, to get to church, so you can worship, praise, honour and glorify God in fellowship with other believers. And if you can’t make it to church for whatever reason, then turn on your television or your radio to a good church broadcast, or simply pick up the Good Book and spend some more time than normal with God. Remember, He says that at least one day a week, He expects us to get together to make it a holy day in His honour. And Friends, it truly doesn’t matter what day we celebrate the Sabbath on, once we celebrate it. Some of you might beg to disagree, but that’s the sort of thing which causes unnecessary dissension and divisions between believers and allows Beelzebub to infiltrate Christ’s church, to divide and conquer. That’s why Jesus and the Pharisees couldn’t get along either, because they were too fixated on what they considered the law and were sadly lacking in the compassion that Jesus wanted to see. And do you really think that the Lord’s up there in heaven wringing His hands in worry or concern over which day we choose to get together and fellowship in His name? I truly doubt it. I believe He’s much more concerned that we do get together and fellowship on the most convenient day, the one that would bring most of us out. Anyway, turning to our Bit: ‘He brought me forth also into a large (broad) place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me.’ Oh my brethren, how many of us can make that statement in all sincerity eh? In my estimation, not sufficient. Each believer ought to be able to say that with genuine feeling and belief, for if we’re truly walking with the Lord, then that’s what He will do for us. Bruh David declared those words in thanksgiving for deliverance, after the Lord had given him rest from his many enemies. ‘He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hated me: for they were too strong for me. They prevented (confronted) me in the day of my calamity: but the Lord was my stay (support).’ (Ps.18:17-18) Yes my people, the Lord God Jehovah is a sure, faithful and strong support for all those who believe and trust in Him, and are willing to surrender their entire lives to His guidance. And though Bruh David committed some awful sins, yet he never lost focus of God, he kept honouring, worshipping and calling out to Him for guidance and direction. That’s why God looked upon him with such favour. Listen to him in Psalm 4; an evening prayer of trust in God. ‘Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged (relieved) me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me (be gracious to me), and hear my prayer.’ (Ps.4:1) And again in Psalm 31, trusting in the Lord, he soulfully proclaims. ‘I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy; for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities (troubles); And hast not shut me up (given me over) into the hand of the enemy: thou hast set my feet in a large room (wide place).’ (Ps.31:7-8) Then in Psalm 118, he joyfully declares: ‘Let them now that fear the Lord say, that his mercy (LOVING-kindness) endureth for ever. I called upon the Lord in distress: the Lord answered me, and set me in a large (broad) place. The Lord is on my side, I will not fear: what can man do unto me?’ (Ps.118:4-6) Ah mih people, it’s very unlikely that any of us will ever have to contend with the hardships that Bruh David encountered and endured, but in spite of all his problems, he remained steadfastly focused on the God of his fathers. Consequently he earned the trust and title of a man after God’s heart. Oh Friends, I implore us today, to stay focused on God, to begin seriously working towards that designation, because it speaks of the real closeness, the same basic vision between us and our God. Nothing can ever bring us closer to Him than that. Much LOVE!…I have been young, and now am old…yet have I not seen…the righteous forsaken…nor his seed begging bread… (Ps.37:25)

Today’s Scrip-Bit 2 April 2011 Isaiah 7:4

Isaiah 7:4.    And say unto him, Take heed (be careful), and be quiet (be calm); fear not, neither be fainthearted for the two tails (stubs) of these smoking firebrands, for the fierce anger of Rezin with Syria, and of the son of Remaliah.

Oh Friends, it’s supposed to be another beautiful spring day! Wow! Let’s hope it stays like that now, notwithstanding the last time I said something like that, snow fell.  But I do believe the Lord has proven His point and gotten a good chuckle out of it, and will now allow us to have true spring weather. The birds are joyfully singing, so that’s a good sign. And all God’s people, tired of the long, drawn out winter weather, and acutely suffering the winter blahs, erupted in a loud and grateful: ‘Glory Hallelujah!’ Yes Friends, it’s easy to get tired and discouraged when negative stuff keeps coming at us in seemingly unending waves. But you know what? Our Bit today can act as a comprehensive blanket for anything that comes against us. It’s like Linus in the Peanuts comic strip; once he has his blanket with him, he can handle any situation, but without that protective blanket he feels very vulnerable. Our Bit is the Lord’s message through Isaiah to Ahaz, king of Judah, when Syria and Ephraim, the northern kingdom of Israel, were planning an alliance to invade Judah, the southern kingdom. ‘And say unto him, Take heed (be careful). And be quiet (be calm); fear not, neither be fainthearted for the two tails (stubs) of these smoking firebrands, for the fierce anger of Rezin with Syria, and the son of Remaliah.’ Oh my people, those are words that our God has sent us in repeated messages down through the ages, though oftimes we refuse to heed them. One of the most popular messages in that vein is Moses’ instructions to the Israelites at the Red Sea with the Egyptian host hot on their heels, hungry for blood. ‘And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation (deliverance) of the Lord, which he will show you today: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen today, ye shall see them again no more for ever. The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace (be quiet).’ (Ex.14:13-14)  And we all know the great miracle the Lord performed there; parting the Red Sea so that Israel could walk across on dry land, then rejoining the waters which swallowed up the whole Egyptian army. It’s imperative my brethren that we place all our battles in God’s hands, for there are very few, if any, that we can win on our own strength. But unfortunately we are all so stubborn and hardhearted, always wanting to do things our way, that’s why we are stymied so often. Hear this passage, re the futility of relying on men, when Israel decided to rely on Egypt, instead of turning to the God of their fathers for help. ‘For thus saith the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not.’ (Is.30:15) Please note those last four words my Friends: ‘and ye would not,’ because it’s the same foolish, disobedient, egotistical attitude that we possess today. We obviously haven’t learned from the numerous examples of not waiting and trusting in the Lord down through time, starting with our forefathers, Adam and Eve. But as the Lord told Judah, after promising that Syria and Ephraim would eventually be destroyed: ‘If ye will not believe, surely ye shall not be established.’ (Is.7:9) And that’s the gospel truth my brethren! If we don’t believe the Lord’s Word, then crapaud smoke we pipe! And I can guarantee that’s not a very nice or encouraging situation. Therefore, in closing, we’ll proffer some wise advice from Jeremiah, a man who saw and suffered it all, but at the end of the day unhesitatingly and overwhelmingly voted for the Lord God Jehovah. ‘The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord.’ (Lam.3:24-26) Oh my people, I implore us to indelibly write those words of wisdom in our hearts, minds and souls, then seriously put them into practice in our everyday lives. Why? Because the only way to prosper in both this life and the next, is by hoping in and waiting on Infinitely Everything, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Much LOVE!…to hope…to pray…to wait…to see through the eyes of faith…even in bleak and desperate times…that’s the hallmark…of a TRUE CHRISTIAN…

Today’s Scrip-Bit 1 April 2011 Proverbs 18:7‏

Proverbs 18:7.     A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

Happy April (All) Fool’s Day Friends! Now don’t go out and play any serious pranks on anyone. By the way, March did not go out whimpering, for after writing yesterday’s Bit and hoping for no more snow, when I looked outside, the place was white. Hn! Not the real heavy stuff though, because it was gone by midday, but it was still snow, enough to give our God a li’l chuckle at my expense. Who says He doesn’t have a sense of humour eh! Anyway, today is Friday, and I know you all are chomping at the bit to chant our Friday Chant. So here goes; loud and clear now. ‘Oh Lord, thanks for getting me safely through another week of work! It hasn’t been easy, but with your generous help, I made it through. Now, please help me to get sufficient fun, fellowship, rest and relaxation in these two short days off, so that I can be renewed and refreshed in soul, body and mind, to go back out and do it all over again next week, furthering your glorious kingdom with each step I take. I pray this in Jesus name. Amen.’ And I hope we all uttered those positive words with a positive outlook, because all through life we bring to ourselves the fruit of our words. If we speak negatively, then negative fruit is what we reap. But when positive stuff that agrees with God’s Word flows from our lips, then good, positive fruit is harvested. Our Bit declares it quite rightly: ‘A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.’ Oh Friends, it’s ever so important that we guard our tongues, for: ‘Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter (forest) a little fire kindleth (sets on fire)! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members (the tongue is so set), that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature (existence); and it is set on fire of hell (by Satan).’ (James 3:5-6) Yes my people, we all know that the tongue is small but very powerful, capable of creating much strife and contention if we allow it to do so. Many a war has been started by an unwise, unruly and foolish tongue, that’s why Bruh David wisely advises us to: ‘Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile (deceit) (Ps.34:13) For if we speak evil, deceitful stuff, like a boomerang, it will surely come back to haunt us one day. Cousin Sol also declared that: ‘Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.’ (Prov.10:14) And I’m sure all of us have heard someone shoot off their mouth without thinking, or done it personally, even in justified anger, and sadly paid the price later on. This other proverb spells it out even more clearly. ‘Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that LOVE it shall eat the fruit thereof.’ (Prov.18:21) Please note the amount of people that are getting in trouble these days for their thoughtless, unwise words, either through texting, talking or one of the many forms of communication that our world now embraces. And the reality is that most of us have very little of interest or use to communicate, which leads us to communicating nonsense…and pay the price. Please remember that my people. As the Preacher proclaims: ‘The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself.’ (Eccl.10:12) It’s a fact that many of us have at times been swallowed up by our useless talk and incompetent behaviour, but it’s time to stop that unwise kind of action Friends. For those of us who find our lives aren’t going so good, then maybe it’s time to change the words we use, the way we talk about things. Instead, let’s have our words line up with God’s Word, regardless of our circumstances or of how we feel. Oh my people, our words are so important in all aspects of our lives that Peter thought it fit to reuse Bruh David’s advise in his own message. ‘For he that will LOVE life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: Let him eschew (turn away from) evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue (pursue it). For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.’ (1 Pet.3:10-12) Truer words have never been spoken my brethren, so please take them to heart. And whoever said that words are wind but blows are unkind was talking somewhat foolishly, for words have the ability to hurt more than any blow, and the hurt from the blow usually heals quicker and with fewer side effects than those of words. So please Friends, starting NOW, let’s all seriously watch the words we speak. And the first step in that regard is to think before we talk, a crime which too many of us are guilty of nowadays. Much LOVE!…the tongue…it hot and tallawa…so powerful…that it can either make or break us…

Today’s Scrip-Bit 31 March 2011 Matthew 17:17‏

Matthew 17:17.    Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.

Oh Friends, March is over now, and hopefully the snowfall too, but it’s still cold. Even the trees refuse to be fooled again and haven’t brought forth any buds as yet. Anyway, we’re alive and well, which is the important thing. And all God’s people lifted their heads, hands, hearts and eyes heavenward and offered up a grateful: ‘Thank you Lord!’ But unfortunately my brethren, there’s still one major problem; the proportion of the population that offered that thanks is way too small, it’s in the minority, while the majority fall under Jesus’ condemnation in our Bit. ‘O faithless (unbelieving) and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer (bear with) you? bring him hither to me.’ The occasion for this rebuke is a man bringing his epileptic son to Jesus to be cured after the disciples were unable to heal him. And when the disciples asked why they could not cure the child, Jesus declared these famous words: ‘Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove (move); and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.’ (Matt.17:20-21) Sadly though my people, there still exists today a great pool of unbelief, disbelief, non-belief, call it what you will, but too many people don’t sincerely believe in Jesus Christ as the answer to our problems, and thus we have become the most perverse and idolatrous generation ever, although we’re supposed to be the most advanced and enlightened. That might show up in other aspects of our lives, but certainly not in terms of accepting Jesus as our Lord and Saviour. And though that’s an unfortunate fact, it’s not totally unexpected given our forefather’s behaviour down through the ages. Moses ominously declared it in his song: ‘They have corrupted themselves, their spot is not the spot of his children (they are not his children because of their blemish): they are a perverse and crooked generation. Do ye thus requite (repay) the Lord, O foolish people and unwise? Is not he thy father that hath bought thee? Hath he not made thee, and established thee?’ (Deut.32:5-6) Unfortunately Friends, not many of us seem to think so in our current society. And Moses’ words are a direct reference to our generation since more people follow Beelzebub’s evil ways than do the Lord’s godly desires. And the blame for that lies at the feet of we believers for several reasons: for being too weak, silent and scared when Lucifer’s minions try to wipe out God from our everyday lives; for not being strong and proactive enough to mount sensible campaigns to bring unbelievers into the fold, and above all, the many dissensions and continual strife in our ranks. Remember yesterday we talked about strife being Lucifer’s number one weapon, well he’s used it very successfully on us. Jesus said it quite clearly: ‘And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.’ (Mark 3:25) And Christians are so divided that I don’t know how we survive! Meanwhile, Lucifer and his boys stand together and together corrupt the world with evil and violence. Oh Friends, in the essence of brevity, (smile) we’ll end with some wise and encouraging advice from Bruh Paul. ‘Do all things without murmurings (grumbling) and disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless (innocent), the sons (children) of God, without rebuke (fault), in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation (generation), among whom ye shine as lights in the world.’ (Eph.2:14-15) Yes my people, only if we behave like godly children and work in harmony with each other, with a strong and proactive bent, can we ever hope to retake this evil world for Christ. If we keep on allowing the enemy to divide and conquer us, then the Lord’s army will either be soon defeated or remain second-class, and neither position is tenable in the eyes of Jesus. So it’s up to us, His supposed followers to ramp up our hearts, minds and efforts and do our bounden duty. Let’s take our lights from wherever we have them hidden and bravely expose them to the world, shine them from every roof and mountain top, in Jesus name. Amen! Much LOVE mih people!…only in so far as all Christians come together…and fight a war of solidarity against the forces of evil…can the forces of good ever hope to be victorious…

Today’s Scrip-Bit 30 March 2011 Proverbs 17:14‏

Proverbs 17:14.    The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water: therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.

Oh Friends, it’s another beautiful day in God’s kingdom! Hallelujah! We’re alive and kicking! All praise and thanks be to God! Sadly though our world is too full of Beelzebub’s main weapon; strife. Everywhere we turn on God’s great earth it’s either existing in abnormal proportions, or the seeds for it’s birth have already been sown. But here are some wise words concerning it from Gloria Copeland’s book, ‘Hidden Treasures,’ re abundant living in the riches of proverbs. ‘In order to walk in God’s wisdom and keep the door of your life closed to the devil, you must diligently guard against strife and seek diligently to LOVE others.’ Yes my people, LOVE is the only antidote for strife! And I like how our Bit characterizes strife: ‘The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water: therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.’ Such words of wisdom mih Friends! Strife begins so easily; like turning on your tap, first slowly, in a trickle, then the flow grows ever bigger and faster. That’s how strife operates. Even like a dripping faucet. The drip starts out small, but note, those drips never get smaller, always bigger. I believe the Amplified Bible refers to it as a crack in a dam. It’s the same principle of starting out small. And that’s the awful truth about strife my brethren; it usually starts out small, but quickly increases if left unchecked. That’s why our Bit says we ought to ‘leave off contention, before it be meddled with.’ We need to nip it in the bud, stop the contention before the quarrel begins. It’s the only way to conquer strife my Friends, for as these two verses of the Good Book concur, strife is the devil’s own handiwork. ‘He LOVETH transgression that LOVETH strife: and he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction. He that hath a froward (deceitful or crooked) heart findeth no good: and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief (evil).’ (Prov.17:19-20) Lucifer’s followers delight in creating strife, for it kills whatever peace and LOVE that exists in a particular situation, and that’s their life’s goal. But we believers have to listen very closely to Proverbs 10:12, and diligently put it to work in all aspects of our lives. ‘Hatred stirreth up strifes: but LOVE covereth all sins.’ And isn’t that the way it truly is! As James so rightly puts it: ‘For where envying and strife is (where self seeking exists), there is confusion and every evil work.’ (James 3:16) And Bruh Paul warned the Corinthians: ‘For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions (dissensions), are ye not carnal (fleshly) and walk as men? For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?’ (1 Cor.3:3-4) Yes Friends, we certainly are being carnal, of this world, when we exhibit things like greed, lust and envy, which always bring strife, much to Lucifer’s delight, but our Lord’s displeasure. However my people, there is a way to guard against that persistent enemy called strife, for just as Cousin Sol tells us about the disease, he also gives us the remedy. ‘The discretion of a man deferreth his anger (makes him slow to anger); and it is his glory to pass over (overlook) a transgression.’ (Prov.19:11) Or as James says: ‘Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not (does not produce) the righteousness of God.’ (James 1:19-20) And Bruh Paul told the Ephesians: ‘Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.’ (Eph.4:31-32) Oh Friends, there’s only one thing left to be said; make sure you keep strife out of your family and your home, for that seems to be the easiest place for it to start. And as Cousin Sol says right at the beginning of Chapter 17: ‘Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than a house full of sacrifices (sacrificial meals or feasting) with strife.’ (Prov.17:1) And as the old people were wont to say: ‘Charity (LOVE) begins at home,’ and that’s the first place we’ve got to stop strife from taking root. So let’s all seriously consider the strife in our lives, and with the help of God’s Word and His awesome LOVE remove it, so that both our individual lives and our world will experience some much needed peace. Much LOVE!…unfortunately…strife in our lives and hearts…blocks the flow of communication…with our wonderful God…

Today’s Scrip-Bit 29 March 2011 Psalm 104:33‏

Psalm 104:33.    I will sing unto the Lord as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.

Oh Friends, the ole fella is shaking it a bit rough this morning, with some sneezing and a strep throat. Hope it’s only my sinuses acting up. But yuh know what? I am alive and kicking, so ‘Praise the Lord!’ And just as rain, snow, sleet, sun or any disaster never stops the mailman from delivering the mail, likewise, nothing, no sickness or tragedy is going to stop me from writing the Bit. (smile) But I’d better not get too high and mighty on that nuh, before the Lord challenges me, because that’s How He operates. You boast about something, then soon thereafter that very same boast comes back to haunt you. In any case my people, though something might very well stop me from writing the Bit, for sure, nothing but death will cause me to stop doing what today’s Bit proclaims: ‘I will sing unto the Lord as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.’ Yes Friends, nothing but death should stop us from singing the mighty and worthy praises of our Great God Jehovah! Regardless of the physical shape of our bodies, while we have breath in them, once we can put two and two together in our minds, the Lord’s praises should always permeate our souls. And all God’s people shouted a powerful ‘Amen!’ Please remember that one of the purposes for which we were created is to commune with and worship the Most High God. Our praise and worship is essential to His happiness. It won’t change who He is, but just as we expect our children to be obedient and respectful, our heavenly Father expects us to praise and worship Him. And to emphasize the importance of communication with our God, the psalmist, after writing our Bit, then continues: ‘My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the Lord.’ (Ps.104:34) And that’s exactly how it ought to be my brethren! When we read and contemplate on God’s Word, it should bring us joy, a sense of peace should overwhelm our spirits, and make our souls glad, for that is it’s purpose. It wasn’t only given to guide and educate, but also to enliven and gladden us with all the truth of God’s promises contained therein that we can boldly rely on. The Good Book was not written to make us sad, but glad; to give us encouragement and hope of a good future, especially God’s promises of salvation and eternal life through Jesus’ all-embracing sacrifice on the cross. What news can bring greater joy that that eh? NONE mih people, NONE! That’s why men of faith have been singing the Lord’s praises and blessing Him from days of old. Now hear Bruh David in Psalm 63, when he talks of God satisfying the thirsting souls of men. ‘Because thy LOVING-kindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name. My soul shall be satisfied with marrow (the best fat) and fatness (abundance); and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips.’ (Ps.63:3-5) And all God’s people sang a loud ‘Glory Hallelujah!’ And Friends there was never a more righteous sinner than Bruh David, and he paid for his mistakes, but through his constant devotion to the God of his fathers, the Lord still looked upon him with great favour. Why won’t He do the same for us, if we sincerely try to walk in His will? No reason whatsoever my brethren! And we’ll end with some more encouraging words, these of Bruh Paul, re singing praises to our Father. ‘And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess (dissipation); but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.’ (Eph.5:18-21) We can’t beat that advice my people, so let’s take it to heart and do it nuh. It will bring a big smile to our Lord’s face, a tear of joy to His eyes and a gentle, tender tug of LOVE to His heart. Till tomorrow then, if it’s on God’s agenda. In the meanwhile, please walk safely with Him, offering much thanks and praise for His goodness to us. Much LOVE!…it is both meet and right…to offer thanks and praise to our God… P.S. And the gospel music I’m listening to while I’m editing the Bit is saying exactly that: ‘I will lift my hands, I will worship you. We lift our hands to worship you Lord. Almighty God, I worship you. Not just for what you’ve done, But who you are. So I lift my hands and worship you Lord…’ Much LOVE!

Today’s Scrip-Bit 28 March 2011 Hebrews 2:1

Hebrews 2:1.    Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.

Oh thank the Lord Friends, that we’re alive to see another beautiful, sunny day, alive to admire God’s marvellous handiwork! And it’s essential, that everyday, regardless of our circumstances, we make time to admire some aspect of God’s creation; be it big or small, animate or inanimate, as that helps us keep a clear focus on the One who created the universe and all therein. And don’t say you can’t find anything, because everything that God made is a source of wonder in and of itself. It might even help to look in the mirror and declare in wonder and amazement: ‘Oh what a beautiful image of the living God! I am indeed His most marvellous creation.’ (smile) Be careful though, not to get too carried away and let it turn into narcissism. Anyway, today is Monday and we’re not in a particularly light-hearted mood because we have to go back out and face the stressful, evil workaday world. But like everything else in this life, with the Lord’s help, we can overcome that anxiety. So let’s sing our Monday Morning Battle Hymn in a loud and sincere voice. AMEN!’ Now turning to our Bit: ‘Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip (drift away).’ Yesterday we saw the basic reasoning behind that statement: If all sins and disobedience were justly punished, then most of us would end up in purgatory, eternally separated from God.  But the Father, in His awesome wisdom and exceptional LOVE, made a way for us to escape that diabolical state by sending His Son Jesus as a sacrifice to pay for our wrongs, a fact we can ill afford to forget or neglect once we’ve been taught it. (Heb.2:2-3) Then the author of Hebrews goes on to prove the authenticity of Christ and His offering of salvation: ‘God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers (various) miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?’ (Heb.2:4) And here I’ll quote the scholar’s explanation of this verse, as they do a better job than I can. ‘The miraculous sign gifts of the Holy Spirit were present in the first century to confirm apostolic revelation (2 Cor.12:12; Heb.2:2-4) and are not expected today. Just as it is necessary to erect a scaffolding to aid construction when a building is being erected, so sign gifts were the spiritual scaffolding used by God to give credibility to His revelation which became the foundation of the church. When the written Word of God was complete, God removed the scaffolding. These gifts were given primarily as signs for the Jews (1 Cor.1:22). Also, as the apostles were primarily communicating an oral tradition, they needed signs to authenticate their message (2 Thess.2:15). When considering a sign gift, one should remember that gifts, such as the gift of apostles, were foundational gifts needed in the first century, and were characterized by certain qualifications that could not be met today (Acts 1:21-22) Also, Paul specifically indicated that some gifts would cease (1 Cor.13:8), and he referred to miracles seemingly in the past tense, which he would not do if they were still prevalent at the time of writing. The sign gifts would include apostles (Eph.4:11), healing (1 Cor.12:9), tongues, miracles, and interpretation of tongues (1 Cor.12:10). Some might add to that list the discernment of spirits (1 Cor.12:10)‘ Yes Friends, we no longer need some of the stuff that the first Christians needed to help them believe because we have it all written down and thus can refer to it at will, but with any kind of oral work there must be something physical to justify it, and obviously the Good Lord provided the tools His spokespeople needed to do His work, just like he does with us today, though again different tools for a different kind of society. And who says the Lord doesn’t know what he’s doing eh? Anyway mih people, please take the time to check out the references above, I found them very helpful, and I’m sure you will too. And as we noted before, unlike the early Christians, we have the Word readily available to us in all forms and fashions, but still, if we don’t read, study and practice it, it will be of no use to us. We’ll lose the hope, the motivation, the belief, the faith and the encouragement it engenders in our beings…and what then?  We’ll be lost; like dumb sheep, unable to find our way, in our own strength. And anyone who’s ever been lost knows that’s a terrible experience, one to avoid at all costs. So please, I implore us, let’s pay earnest heed to the Word so that we’ll walk safely with Jesus and not get lost in the darkness. Much LOVE!…to remain connected to God…we need to concentrate on the things of God…
