Today’s Scrip-Bit 19 December 2019 Hebrews 4:12.

Hebrews 4:12.    For the word of God is quick (living), and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner (able to judge) of the thoughts and intents (intentions) of the heart.

Ah mih people, just six more days to that magical, mysterious, miraculous day we call Christmas Day! Wow! Can you imagine the stir it made in ole Bethlehem that Christmas Eve night when the angels came a-singing and a glorifying and exalting our new born Saviour? Anyhow, today we’re not dealing with the birth of Christ so much as the source from which we get that news: ‘The BOOK OF ALL BOOKS!’

Mama Mia! What a marvellous book is our Bible! And so it should be since it’s the Lord’s Word. No other tome has such drama, and in such abundance! The stuff written today pales in dramatic content, promises and story-telling. So let’s get to today’s poem of the same name from our One Year Book of Bible Promises with writings by Ruth Harms Calkin.

Please pray with me: ‘Lord, I am overshadowed As I read Your living Word. What power, what pungency I find within its pages. It stirs me, burns within me It challenges me, invigorates me And often disturbs me. When I obey its commands The results are what You claim: Darkness becomes light Crooked places become straight The more I seek, the more I find. Within its pages, God I see beyond mere philosophy I see beyond a neat package of ethics. I crash head-on with a living Person The One who makes all things new. No other book can claim as much.’

And isn’t that the gospel truth my fellow believers! No other book is as powerful, mind-bending and moving as the Word of God! I like how the author of the poem talks about its power, its pungency! And ALL of us who have read it, have found it to be at times, burning like a fire within us, like it was with Jeremiah when he lamented against God. ‘Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak anymore in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing (holding back), and I could not stay (endure it).’ (Jer. 20:9)

Yeh friends, that’s just how the Lord’s Word acts on us, especially when we get discouraged. We don’t want to deal with it, but it’s so powerful that it forces us to do so! And which one of us hasn’t found the Word to be ofttimes challenging, invigorating, and downright disturbing eh? NONE! And it will ALWAYS be so, because that’s the purpose of the Word; to challenge, invigorate and disturb us to come to and stay obedient to the Lord! And the great thing is that when we obey the Word, we find the results are exactly what it claims; light overshadows darkness, joy comes in the morning, crooked places are made straight, and we do find more when we seek more.

But unfortunately, and rather sadly, too many of us read the Word, know that it’s true, but still don’t follow it. Thus our lives are never as successful and prosperous as they can be. Please, please, I implore us to remember the momentous words the Lord spoke to Joshua when He made him leader of the Israelites after Moses’ death. ‘This book of the law shall not depart out of (be constantly in) thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.’ (Josh. 1:8)

Oh my people, my people, that is perhaps the most important, provocative, wise and revealing verse in all of the Good Book! It gives us the blueprint for successful and prosperous living in just a few words, and from the Lord Himself! What could be more enlightening eh? Absolutely NOTHING! But yet so many of us supposed believers refuse to take it seriously, or as seriously as we ought to. But friends and neighbours, please listen very closely to these words as found in the Good Book that rather frighteningly describe the true power of God’s Word.

‘For the word of God is quick (living), and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner (able to judge) of the thoughts and intents (intentions) of the heart. Neither is any creature that is not manifest in (hidden from) his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do (must give account to).’ (Heb. 4:12-13) Oh friends, please allow all of that to sink in deep into our souls nuh! The Lord’s Word is indeed living and sharp and very discerning, thus we have to pay serious attention to how we live it.

Hear the scholars: ‘4:12-13. For the word of God: The reason given for one’s careful scrutiny of his life involves the reality that God is intently scrutinizing it. His word is quick (living). This word is first in the Greek and is the emphasis. God’s Word is not old or archaic; it is alive. It is not inept or inactive; it is powerful (active). It reaches into the inner secrets of man’s mind to discern even his thoughts and intents. Likewise, God’s eye sees man as though he were naked, unable to hide behind excuses or pretense.’

Bubba! If that doesn’t shake us up to the reality of God’s ever searching, discerning and plumbing of all our thoughts and intentions, I don’t know what will nuh. All I can say now is let’s go home declaring (yeah!) our Thursday Blessings which the Lord has so generously granted us. In loud and sincere voice now, because they don’t come into play until we speak them out.

‘I declare that I am blessed with God’s supernatural wisdom and receive clear direction for my life! I declare today that I am blessed with creativity, courage, talent and abundance! I am blessed with a strong will, self-control and self-discipline! I am blessed with a great family, good friends, good health, faith, favour and fulfillment! I am blessed with success, supernatural strength, promotion and divine protection! I am blessed with a compassionate heart and a positive outlook on life! I declare that any curse or negative word that’s ever been spoken over me is broken right now in the name of Jesus! I declare that everything I put my hands to will prosper and succeed! I declare it today and everyday! Amen!’

And the thing to remember now is that those awesome blessings were granted to us so generously so that we can turn around and share them generously with others. So let’s do that nuh, especially at this Christmas season, the season of giving! Much LOVE!

…God’s Word…created the world…keeps it alive…and will in His time…destroy it…

Today’s Scrip-Bit 15 December 2017 Hebrews 4:12.

Hebrews 4:12.   For the word of God is quick (living), and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of (is able to judge) the thoughts and intents (intentions) of the heart.

Ten more days friends, ten more days to the Big Day of Christmas! Then the celebrations will erupt in volcanic fashion, as in all parts of the world we give thanks and praise to Almighty God for the miraculous birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, born two thousand years ago on a wintry night in Bethlehem of Judea, to grow to manhood, and eventually save mankind from sin and eternal damnation.

Exalt His holy name my people, for it’s the best gift mankind has ever received! And on this chilly Friday morning, the ordinary workingman is also out there singing his song of freedom. ‘TGIF! Thank God is Friday! The weekend here! At long last mih li’l time of freedom come! And as is Christmas time to boot, the partying going to be even greater than usual.

We going by everybody to eat up deh food and drink up deh liquor! When the lime buss so, people wouldn’t know what hit them! And please, doh tell me nothing about partying too much nuh, because if I could work for five days straight, then I could at least party hearty for two. So just leh we thank the Lord for Fridays and weekends yes!’

And believe me friends, that is exactly what’s happening in some parts of our world. (smile) But as Christians, as believers in Jesus Christ, that is just simply too much leeway for us, as it gives the enemy too many opportunities to get a foothold in our lives and thus mess with our relationship with Jesus.

And we certainly don’t want anything to mess with that, the most important and wonderful relationship ever! That’s why we have certain boundaries and limits that we try not to cross over, and why our Friday Chant is so different to that of the ordinary workingman. So let’s declare it now nuh, with suitable enthusiasm and sincerity.

‘Oh Lord, thanks for getting me safely through another week of work! It hasn’t been easy, but with your generous help, I made it through. Now, please help me to get sufficient fun, fellowship, rest and relaxation in these two short days off, so that I can be renewed and refreshed in soul, body and mind, to go back out and do it all over again next week, furthering your glorious kingdom with each step I take. I pray this in Jesus name. Amen.’

Yes my people, it doesn’t prohibit us from having fun, but it also emphasizes the necessity to get ready for next week. And, as believers, we should always be ready: readiness should be a constant state of our lives, especially being ready for the Second Coming of Jesus, which can occur at any time, like the proverbial thief in the night.

Now it’s time to check out our Bit; such a mighty piece of scripture, than when you read it, it just takes your breath away. ‘For the word of God is quick (living), and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of (is able to judge) the thoughts and intents (intentions) of the heart.’

Ah mih bredden, that just shows that we cannot fool with the Word of God, for it’s all-seeing and knowing and more powerful than any man-made instrument! And Bruh Paul adds this addendum after our Bit which corroborates our statement. ‘Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in (hidden from) his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do (must give account).’(Heb.4:13)

Yeh friends, you can run, but you certainly can’t hide from your Creator! So those of us who are trying to get away from Him, please, let’s stop the foolishness nuh, for He knows your every move before you even think them. It’s so much easier, and wiser, to just give in to Him and say, ‘Lord, here I am, take me, I’m yours, now and forever more! Amen!’

Now here is some info from the scholars re our Bit and the succeeding verse. ‘4:12-13.

Likewise, God’s eyes sees man as though he were naked, unable to hide behind excuse or pretense.’

What more can I say eh friends? Not a whole lot. Our whole lives are open unto the One who created us from the dust of the earth, then breathed His breath of life into our frail and fragile bodies, so trying to hide anything from Him is a total waste of time.

What’s much better is going to Him with EVERYTHING! That’s what He wants and desires, so He can be an integral, or rather the most important part, closest friend, redeeming Saviour, merciful and LOVING God in our lives. That’s who He is friends! And the sooner we realize it and accept Him, the better off we shall be. Much LOVE!

…you can’t fight God’s word…because it’s All-Powerful…

Today’s Scrip-Bit 19 December 2015 Hebrews 4:12

Hebrews 4:12.   For the word of God is quick (living), and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of (is able to judge) the thoughts and intents (intentions) of the heart.

Six days Friends, six days to the celebration of the greatest birth that ever was – that of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on what is now known as Christmas Day! Glory Hallelujah!

That was just the initial showing of God’s great LOVE for us; just the beginning of His miraculous plan to bring us back into fellowship with Him if we so desired! And to think that so many of us still don’t have the proper reverence for that remarkable day eh. Chuh!

It has just turned into a holiday season of shopping, buying presents, feasting, exchanging gifts and generally worldly excitement and consideration. The real sense and purpose behind the season is lost. So much so that the common greeting nowadays is ‘Happy Holidays,’ not ‘Merry Christmas’ as it ought to be. Steups!

That’s because it’s no longer politically correct and doesn’t sit well with those of other faiths. So what? But it’s okay to say ‘Happy Hanukkah and such like things. But tell me people what’s the blooming holiday about eh? It’s about Christmas; the birth of Jesus! If you took away Christmas and Jesus, there’d be no bloody holidays to talk about. But the bloody ole hypocrites are willing to use it as an excuse for business purposes and general debauchery.

And the sad part is that we wimpy Christians are allowing them to get away with it. We shouldn’t be supporting any business or organization that cannot or refuses to admit that the reason for the season is the birth of Christ and use the greeting Merry Christmas, instead of Happy Holidays.

Ah friends, every day we are losing more and more of our Christian heritage to Lucifer and his evil cronies. Bit by bit, they are breaking down the walls of our faith. We cannot allow this to happen, or else we’ll soon be a mere footnote in the pages of history, instead of the giants we were created to be.

It is high time that we stand up strong like true soldiers of Christ and fight back with all the weapons at our disposal, otherwise our grandchildren will be nonentities in this once proud and faithful Christian society.

That brings us quite appropriately to this quote from our friend Anselm, doing his best to inspire us to a better tomorrow. And Anselm says: ‘Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.’

And that’s the living truth my people! If we’re not optimistic about any project or matter, generally speaking we will be disappointed because we have not put in the required mental effort to make it successful. And as ALL Christians ought to know, hope and confidence are essential ingredients in all we set out to do, especially if it’s for Jesus.

So in terms of our faith, it is indeed necessary that we get optimistic about it, and thus be brimming over with hope and confidence that the LOVE Revolution of Jesus will overcome the evil empire of Lucifer! Unfortunately, that is possibly one of the reasons for our steady demise; we just aren’t hopeful, optimistic and confident enough! And that shouldn’t be so my brethren when we have the awesome power of God’s Word at our beck and call, as exemplified in our Bit.

‘For the word of God is quick (living), and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of (is able to judge) the thoughts and intents (intentions) of the heart.’

Ah my fellow believers, as I said some time recently, until we understand that the power of God’s Word is available to us, and we start using it consistently and effectively, we will never be able to achieve our objective of winning all the world’s souls to God. Sadly, we might even lose many more than we win if we don’t start seriously standing up for what we believe in and using all the tools at our disposal.  And that’s today’s sermon! (smile)

Now it’s time for scripture to prove the truth of our Bit. Hear Isaiah as he talks about Israel the Lord’s servant. ‘Listen, O ye isles (coastlands), unto me, and hearken, ye people from far; The Lord hath called me from the womb; from the bowels (inward parts) of my mother hath he made mention of my name.

And he hath made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand hath he hid me, and made me a polished shaft; in his quiver hath he hid me; And said unto me, Thou art my servant, O Israel, in whom I will be glorified.’ (Is.49:1-3)

Yes Friends, that servant with the mouth like a sharp sword who will glorify the Lord is none other than the Messiah, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! His Word will also have the power to give life, to comfort, to heal and to destroy.

Meanwhile, Hosea, in Israel’s reply to God’s admonishment, declares God’s contention. ‘O Ephraim, what shall I do unto thee? O Judah, what shall I do unto thee? for your goodness (faithfulness) is as a morning cloud, and as the early dew it goeth away. Therefore have I hewed (hewn them to pieces) by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of my mouth: and thy judgements (the judgements on you) are as the light that goeth forth.’ (Hos.6:4-5)

And we’ll conclude this series of messages with a scripture that we all know and acclaim, from the words of Bruh Paul to the Ephesians regarding the armour of God. ‘And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:’ (Eph.6:17)

Oh my people, the Word of the Lord is the most powerful tool and/or weapon in the universe! He uses it for everything; in other words, it’s an all-purpose instrument. And the beauty of the situation friends, is that we too can use the power of the Word to uplift ourselves, to defeat our enemies, as well as to successfully spread our wonderful faith around the world as Jesus desires.

Let’s think on those things today nuh, for they will be of great benefit to us. Much LOVE!

…until Christians learn to harness the power of God’s Word…we will never achieve…never attain… our full complement of power…

Today’s Scrip-Bit 18 December 2015 Hebrews 4:12‏‏‏‏

Hebrews 4:12.  For the word of God is quick (living), and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of (is able to judge) the thoughts and intents (intentions) of the heart.

And then, at last it was Friday…

And the whole town singing, ’Friday, Friday Friday, we LOVE you! Even though today yuh dark and dreary, we still glad that yuh here, because it means the workweek finish and the weekend finally here. Partying soon start! Thank God for Fridays yes! Thank Him for everyday, but especially Friday!’

Ah mih people, try as we can, we can’t break the party attitude that is first and foremost on our minds come Friday eh. As I keep saying though, nothing’s wrong with partying, just that it shouldn’t be the major thought in our minds come the weekend. Some rest and relaxation, plus serious time with our heavenly Father are also important to our weekend activities.

And to help us get in the right perspective, let’s chant our Friday Chant like we really mean it nuh. All together now:  ‘Oh Lord, thanks for getting me safely through another week of work!

Amen.’

Yes Friends, we need to remember that doing God’s work is our most important activity down here on earth, so it is necessary to make some special preparations that we can do it positively and effectively.

Now here’s a li’l brain teaser from my ‘P.S. I LOVE YOU’ poster. And it says: ‘True wealth is what you are, not what you have.’

And that’s the truth in spades my fellow believers in Jesus Christ! Who we are as people, is much more important that what we have. Unfortunately though, the world, including too many Christians behave the opposite way, judging others and ourselves by what we have.

Our material possessions are too often used to describe us as successful or not. But the truth is my people, we could be dirt poor in economic terms, but wealthy as ever internally, with integrity, compassion, wisdom, overstanding and God’s LOVE! Glory Hallelujah!

Now there’s nothing wrong with possessing economic wealth, but it must not take priority over those other things we just mentioned. So please, let’s get our priorities straight this Friday morning nuh, because the whole ebb and flow of our lives depends on it.

And that segues very nicely into our Bit. ‘For the word of God is quick (living), and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of (is able to judge) the thoughts and intents (intentions) of the heart.’

Ah Friends, there is indeed immense power in the Word of our mighty and wonderful God! All glory and majesty be to Him!

And the scholars have this interesting info on our Bit, which they have titled: ‘Immaterial Part of Man.  4:12. The writer here draws an interesting parallel between the joints and the marrow, which have different functions, yet both are a part of a human’s bone structure.

Thoughts and intents are also two distinctive activities, yet both activities of the mind. And while the soul and spirit are distinct in function, both have an immaterial character. When considering the nature of humanity, we must realize a person is a two-part being, that is, with body and soul. But in activity or function the body, soul, and spirit of a person each has a different function.

Paul desired of his converts “whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Thess.5:23). (First Reference, Gen.2:7; Primary Reference, 1 Thess.5:23; cf. Prov.4:23.).’

Now that’s what is so wonderful about a human being; we’re made of so many different parts that function separately, as well as together, to make up the whole that we are in God! And please take a moment to read those references, because they are oh so good and true!

And today we’ll continue looking at some scriptures that corroborate the truth of our Bit, beginning with words from Isaiah, as he talks about the righteous reign of the branch of Jesse.

‘But with righteousness shall he judge the poor and reprove with equity (decide with uprightness) for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite (strike) the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.’ (Is.11:4)

Yes people, the Lord’s servant will do it all through the power of His mouth. Meanwhile, when talking about false prophets, Jeremiah describes it thus: ‘Is not my word like as a fire? saith the Lord; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?’ (Jer.23:29)

And finally, in John’s vision of the Son of Man, he declares: ‘And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp two-edged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.’ (Rev.1:16)

Oh friends, I do hope that all of this is having some significant impact on us, teaching us about how mighty and powerful the Word of out God truly is. Why you ask?

Because until we understand that, we will be severely limiting ourselves of the power that we have, through speaking God’s Word. And life is hard enough as it is, we don’t need to make it any harder by limiting the godly power that’s available to us. Much LOVE!

…there is power in the Word…power in the Word…power in the Word…
