Today’s Scrip-Bit 30 November 2012 Proverbs 8:32

Proverbs 8:32.   Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways.
Oh Friends, it’s Friday, and lots of people in T&T are joyfully shouting; ‘TGIF! Thank God it’s Friday!’ But I’m not one of them though, because I know that after Friday, comes Saturday, Sunday and then Monday, when unfortunately, I’ll be winging my way back north to face the cold and dark of winter. Steups! Have to do something about that yes – the Good Lord willing of course. Anyway, today I’m writing these words of peace, LOVE and encouragement from the balcony of my room atop the upside down hotel, the Trinidad Hilton. Yes, I’m in Trinidad for a couple of days. Right now, shortly after 7 a.m, as I look up at the nearby Northern Range of mountains, with its lush greenery, off to my right I can see a grey cloud of drizzle coming down the hillside towards my location in the capital city of Port of Spain. The sun is still hazy behind the rain clouds though, giving it a kind of surreal look. From my high vantage point, the Prime Minister’s residence is directly in front and below me. It seems to be an interesting piece of architecture. Now the mountains off to my left are shrouded in cloud and rain, and I can no longer see the houses populating the hillside. Even the sea, further left, is now a blurry sight. But Friends, this morning around 5.30 when I got up and came out to the balcony, was it ever a beautiful sight that greeted my bleary eyes. A big, bright, enchanting full moon hovered over the mountains, accompanied by a necklace of multi-coloured lights strung up, down and across the hillsides, from the street lights and houses nestled on the slopes of the range. The drizzle has finally reached me, and I have to move back a tad, so that I don’t get wet. And what’s so amusing about a lot of the rain I’ve seen since I’ve been in T&T, is that very often while it’s falling, the sun is still shining. Oh, I know it happens, but I’ve never seen it happen so often, even when I lived here. The devil and his wife must sure be doing a lot of fighting. (smile) The houses on the hills to my left are now emerging from the dark clouds and rain, into bright sunshine. Oh mih people, I just happened to look up above the mountains and was most surprised to see a beautiful rainbow arcing through the sky. And all I can say is ‘Thank You Lord! Thank You for that sign of heavenly blessing, showing me that you haven’t forgotten your long ago covenant with your sinful children.’ I don’t remember ever seeing two rainbows in two weeks. Remember the first one I saw going to Tobago on the plane last Tuesday morning. Oh Friends, with such a wonderful sign from heaven, I think It’s time to chant our Friday Chant. So, all together now, let’s raise heaven’s roof with our loud, harmonious praise. ‘Oh Lord, thanks for getting me safely through another week of work! It hasn’t been easy, but with your generous help, I made it through. Now, please help me to get sufficient fun, fellowship, rest and relaxation in these two short days off, so that I can be renewed and refreshed in soul, body and mind, to go back out and do it all over again next week, furthering your glorious kingdom with each step I take. I pray this in Jesus name. Amen.’ Ah mih breddren, at this moment I feel incredibly blessed, even more so than normal. But I need to keep my wits about me, and don’t get carried away, for within the very blessings, there are always pockets of testing, ruts and potholes that are liable to trip us up if we’re not careful. So let’s remember our friendly motto this weekend, that drunk or sober, we need to mind our business. (smile) I just felt the urge to take off my glasses and sit quietly for a few moments admiring the beautiful mountain scenery, now bathed in sunlight, with the rainbow proudly arcing above and behind it all. I don’t understand how so many of us can remain unmoved, untouched by the wonders of nature, created expressly by the Creator for our pleasure. Chuh! I have to go back inside now and find a suitable Bit, and transcribe what I’ve written out here. Hope I can understand my ‘crapito’ handwriting. I haven’t heard that term in ages, but it just suddenly occurred to me. That’s what they called poor handwriting in my young days. Anyway, soon come. Oh Friends, I’m back! In less than two minutes! Our God is indeed a GOOD GOD, just as our Bit proclaims in the chapter of Proverbs that tells us that wisdom is everlasting. ‘Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways.’ Oh my fellow believers, you can’t go wrong if you follow the Lord’s directives! But sadly, too many of us either don’t believe it, or are too lazy and unwilling to make the effort, or we simply prefer the lustful, flashy, but empty, useless ways of the world. That’s why our world is in such an awful shambles and getting worse every day. We’re not listening, not paying close attention, not believing as we ought, to the wise words of Bruh David  from Psalm 1. ‘Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly (wicked), nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in his law does he meditate (ponder by talking to oneself) day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers (channels) of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in season; his leaf shall also not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgement, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.’ (Ps.1:1-6) Oh Friends, that’s the whole story right there in black and white. It couldn’t be put any plainer than that. So please let’s all ponder, meditate on those words today, and see how we shape up, then make the necessary adjustments to bring our lives into line with God’s Word. It’s where wisdom both abides and abounds. Much LOVE!…if you’re not walking with Jesus…on the path to salvation…then you’re on the wrong path…walking in the wrong direction…
