Lamentations 3:22-23.   It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Well mih breddren, it’s Sunday morning, time to get thee hither to the Lord’s sanctuary to fellowship, praise, worship and exalt our heavenly Father and receive His blessings and confidence through His word for the upcoming week. 

Now yesterday we looked at the quote of our friend Anselm that talked about being judgemental in our youth, but after life humbled us with some serious life-lessons, we became more compassionate. Well since we dealt with judgmental attitudes yesterday I want to deal with compassion today. 

And it so happens that I went looking for a hymn on compassion to match our topic, and in the Lord’s grace and mercy was pointed to this beautiful modern hymn written by Keith Getty, Kristyn Lennox Getty and Stuart Townend. And it’s appropriately titled the ‘Compassion Hymn,’ with words that are ever so appropriate and heart-rending, putting our focus directly on Christ and His compassionate work on our behalf. 

You can google it and hear the beautiful melody and music that will definitely touch your heart and soul.  So let’s sing it out soulfully now nuh friends, in a medium tempo, in strong voice, with heartfelt sincerity, truly meaning the words of sacrificial praise that we offer. 

‘There is an everlasting kindness You lavished on us When the Radiance of heaven Came to rescue the lost You called the sheep without a shepherd To leave their distress For your streams of forgiveness And the shade of your rest 

And with compassion for the hurting You reached out your hand As the lame ran to meet you And the dead breathed again You saw behind the eyes of sorrow And shared in our tears Heard the sigh of the weary Let the children draw near 

(Chorus: What boundless LOVE What fathomless grace You have shown us, O God of compassion Each day we live  An offering of praise As we show the world your compassion) We stood beneath the cross of Calvary And gazed on your face At the thorns of oppression  And the wounds of disgrace For surely You have borne our suffering And carried our grief As you pardoned the scoffer And showed grace to the thief 

(Chorus: What boundless LOVE…) How beautiful the feet that carry This gospel of peace To the fields of injustice And the valleys of need To be a voice of hope and healing To answer the cries Of the hungry and helpless With the mercy of Christ (Chorus: What boundless LOVE What fathomless grace You have shown us, O God of compassion Each day we live  An offering of praise As we show to the world your compassion) (repeat)’ 

Wow! Isn’t that just beautiful friends! It’s like a listing of all that Jesus has done for us; and it all falls under the heading of COMPASSION! No one has ever showed compassion like our heavenly Father and our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ; that seems to be their middle name, as our Bit and the other scriptures we’ll share attest to. 

‘It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.’ 

Oh friends, we should all be extremely grateful that the Lord is merciful and compassionate yes, else we’d be lost in hellfire a long time ago. And are we ever blessed that His compassion for us is brand new every day! Glory be mih people. And we’re going to highlight God’s greatest act of LOVE and compassion through the words of Bruh Paul to the church at Rome. 

‘For when we were yet without strength, in due (at the right) time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure (perhaps) for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth (demonstrates His own) LOVE toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.’ (Rom.5:6-8) 

Wow! What a magnificent and magnanimous God we serve and worship my brethren! In that while we were still sinful enemies, still estranged from Him, He showed His great and unconditional LOVE for us by sending His Son to die on our behalf, so that we could be reconciled to Him. 

Mama Mia! And all God’s children declared a loud and grateful: ‘Praise the Lord! Hallelujah! Exalt His holy name!’ And the best way we can do that friends, is by showing our LOVE and compassion to others, be they believers or not. 

Remember what we sang in the chorus above: ‘What boundless LOVE What fathomless grace You have shown us, O God of compassion Each day we live An offering of praise As we show to the world your compassion.’ Yeh, we claim that we show the world your compassion every day. 

But is that really true, or is it as true as it can and should be? I don’t think so friends. If we were really showing the world God’s compassion through our actions, our world would not be such a divided, strife-filled and unhappy place, pervaded by so much poverty and sickness. 

So please, let’s get serious and begin living the words we sing nuh. Remember if it wasn’t for God’s compassion, we’d never have Jesus as our Lord and Saviour, and would be still hell bound instead of heaven bound. Much LOVE!

Today’s Scrip-Bit 4 May 2016 Proverbs 17:10

 Proverbs 17:10.  A reproof entereth more into (is more effective) to a wise man than a hundred stripes (blows) into a fool.

And then it was Wednesday – that good, old, solid and steady day in the middle of our workweek, where we catch our second wind and continue joyously moseying along with Jesus beside us. 

But friends, have you ever really considered how close our Lord and Saviour is to us? First of all, He dwells within us as the Holy Spirit, but then He also watches our back to ensure that the enemy doesn’t come upon us unknowingly. 

Then as we said earlier, He walks beside us, holding our hands so that we don’t trip and fall along the way. And finally He walks in front of us, leading and guiding us on the right paths on the way to a victorious life here on earth, then in the mansions of heaven with Him forever. Glory Hallelujah! 

Oh bless His holy name my people! Bless the wonderful name of Jesus Christ, to whom all knees shall bow, and all tongues declare Him Lord and King. Yes friends, our Saviour is indeed worthy and deserving of all the praise, honour, glory and thanksgiving that we can bestow on Him! 

Oh my people, Jesus is indeed a safe harbour for our souls! Praise him my brethren, praise him for there is NO ONE as great and wonderful as Him! 

And to show and solidify our strong and special attachment to Him let’s declare our Wednesday Wail with much enthusiasm, conviction and truth. 

Wailing now: ‘Wednesday, Wednesday, Wednesday: I’m so glad to be alive on this Wednesday! Wednesday, Wednesday, Wednesday: Thank God the breath of life is still flowing through me on this Wednesday! 

I am halfway home. My hands are fixed securely on the plough, and I’m not turning back. I’m not looking back at the past, not focusing on what has gone before. But my eyes are fixed straight ahead; straight ahead to a glorious future with Jesus. Glory Hallelujah!’ 

Oh precious people, true believers in Christ, it sure is wonderful to be alive and kicking this Wednesday morning! There’s no better feeling than awaking to a brand new day, filled with sunshine and the light that’s Jesus. 

But to fully enjoy the blessings and benefits of our covenant relationship with Him, we need to be strong, steadfast and looking straight ahead to the glorious future that He promises. We can’t afford to have too many lapses in faith and unfounded doubts about His everlasting kindness and LOVE for us, otherwise we will miss the most wondrous time of our lives. 

Now let’s turn to our Bit which highlights the wisdom of Cousin Sol from Proverbs. ‘A reproof entereth more into (is more effective) to a wise man than a hundred stripes (blows) into a fool.’ 

And that is an awesome truth my brethren! When the wise person is corrected, they acknowledge the truth of the situation and do whatever is necessary to right it. They can see the error of their ways and use wise judgement to rectify it. 

However, to the unwise, to the fool, correction is a waste of time. According to Cousin Sol you can give him a hundred lashes and he still will not learn the error of his ways. 

Now how many of us are like that today eh my people? I can’t say for sure how many, but I do know that there are too many fools walking around God’s great world today and not enough wise ones. If there were a greater amount of wise men and women than foolish ones, our world would not be in such a mess. 

We would not be trying to overthrow, to get rid of Almighty God, our Creator and Provider, from our society and lives as desperately as we are doing. That just goes to show that unchristian fools rule the world. 

And as Cousin Sol so wisely says earlier on in Proverbs: ‘He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth (goes astray).’ (Prov.10:17) 

And that’s no lie my fellow believers! When we don’t listen to wise advice we go astray. As the old people use to say; when you don’t hear, you going to feel. But some of us are so foolish and stubborn that despite all signs to the contrary, we persist in going about life in our own small-minded, misguided way. 

And we’ll end today with some wise words from the Lamentations of Jeremiah, words that direct us to true and wholesome behaviour. Even in his sorrow, Jeremiah is able to wisely discern: ’This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. 

The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord.’ (Lam.3:21-26) 

Oh friends, those are indeed words of great wisdom! And I’ll paraphrase some explanations from the scholars on those verses. 

‘3:22-23. These verses embody the central thesis of the book. When God dealt with His sinful people He exhibited His compassions. The word translated mercies conveys God’s LOVE for His covenant people. The word faithfulness comes from a root meaning “be permanent, secure, reliable.” 

From this comes the associated idea of genuine faith; hence the verb can be translated “believe” (Gen.15:6) The word here is often translated “faith” but literally means “firmness” or “faithfulness.” Thus, it is used of the faithfulness of God Himself (Ps.36:5; 40:10; Lam 3:23), and of the need for the believer likewise to be faithful in his life and in his service to God (2 Chr.19:9; Ps.119:30; Prov.12:22). 

The word root stresses that real faith is more than inner belief, even more than whole-souled committal. It is a condition of the soul marked by such a stable character and an attitude of total trust that the believer’s whole life is imbued with consistent, responsible service to God. (cf. 1 Sam.26:23; Ps.37:3-6). From the biblical standpoint, true faith results in faithfulness in one’s life.’ 

More words of awesome truth my people! And please check out the scripture passages that the scholars referenced, I just did, and they are truly interesting and uplifting. 

Now let’s go out and put all that we have learned today into action, so that we can glorify and be faithful to our wonderful God, for that is wisdom of the most immense proportions! Much LOVE!

…lying lips are an abomination to the Lord…but they that deal truly (truthfully)…are his delight… (Prov.12:22)

Today’s Scrip-Bit 10 January 2015 1 John 4:9

1 John 4:9  In this was manifested the LOVE of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

Oh Friends, oh Friends, the ole fella has a brain cramp; or as it’s popularly known writer’s block. I’ve been trying to figure out what to write about and then find an appropriate Bit, or vice versa, for the last half hour or so, though not very diligently, because the ole body and brain are tired. (smile)
 
I obviously have not had any luck, or more likely help from the Lord. But I’m not really worried for I know that the Lord in His mercy and everlasting kindness will eventually bless me with something sensible to write about His Word, because He has promised it, and  I know He doesn’t want me to write  piddling or trifling things about it.
 
But I’m still not thrilled with my brain cramp.  But we still have to thank the Lord that this doesn’t happen often, otherwise I’d be up the proverbial creek. (smile)
 
Anyway, though I can’t seem to come up with my own words of wisdom, that doesn’t prevent me from using those of someone else. And these words of Gramps Schuller (Robert H. Schuller) from his Hour of Power Devotional are indeed words of heavenly wisdom. So please listen to them carefully… or better yet, please repeat them with me.
 
The poem’s called ‘GOD LOVES ME!’ And it goes like this: ‘Thank you Lord, for this holy sentence, this good news, this happy report, this exciting thought, this graceful truth, this fantastic lesson. God LOVES me! Even when I’m at my worst – God LOVES me! Even when my faith is dim – God LOVES me anyway! It’s incomprehensible and fantastic! Thank you, Father. Amen.’
 
Oh my people, isn’t that just wonderful news? It surely is! Knowing that Almighty God LOVES me regardless of who I am, or what I do, or where I go, that just warms the cockles of my heart and causes my spirit to soar to the heavens with joy!
 
Now just hearing that is not good enough my brethren, it’s something every human being ought to know and genuinely believe, mark and inwardly digest. But unfortunately not all of us do, even amongst the followers of Christ. Many of us think that because we do wrong, or don’t come up to God’s level of obedience or high standards, His LOVE for us diminishes. And then it rises when we are obedient and excellent.
 
But that’s totally untrue my brethren. God can be annoyed at us for doing stuff we ought not to do, but the level of His LOVE NEVER diminishes, never gets lowered because of our actions. Please believe that.
 
And I think a wonderful idea would be for each of us to write out that poem and stick it up on our bathroom mirror or someplace that we can see it when we first get up, so that we can start the day with the wonderful news that GOD LOVES US! I don’t believe there’s a better way to begin our day.
 
That will undoubtedly set the tone for our day, get us off to a bright, bubbly and spirited start, as well as have Lucifer angry and frightened right off the bat, knowing that we’re totally enmeshed in Jehovah God and there’s no way for him to get a foothold in our spirit. Life’s always better when we begin the day with a positive, godly attitude. So please consider that suggestion, for it can only bring about an upsurge of faith and trust in our lives.  
 
That brings us finally to our Bit; a most wonderful and encouraging piece of scripture:  ‘In this was manifested the LOVE of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.’
 
Oh my people, what else does God need to do to prove that He LOVES us a whole, whole lot eh? I just don’t know.  I guess it just is way above our heads; our small mentalities cannot comprehend it.  
 
And the scholars rightly tell us: ‘4:9. To grasp God’s LOVE aright one must look to how God demonstrated it. Here John is in total harmony with Paul (Rom.5:8).’
 
And that piece of scripture from Bruh Paul to the Romans is: ‘But God commendeth (demonstrates his own) LOVE toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.’ (Rom.5:8)  
 
Now how is that for true LOVE eh my people? Wonderful! Marvellous!
 
And the scholars explain that verse thus: ‘5:8. Christ died for us: His death was vicarious. That is, He did not die merely for our benefit but in our place. His was a substitutionary sacrifice.’  
 
And even long before Christ came, the Lord was propounding His LOVE for mankind, in particular His LOVE for a faithless Israel.  Hear the prophet Hosea tell it. ‘I drew them with cords of a man (gentle cords), with bands of LOVE: and I was to them as they that take off the yoke on their jaws (necks) and I laid meat unto them (stooped and fed them).’ (Hos.11:4)
 
Now Friends, if that isn’t LOVE, then I don’t know what is!
 
And we’ll close with this powerful scripture that comes after our Bit. ‘Herein is LOVE, not that we LOVED God, but that he LOVED us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation (atonement, sacrifice, payment) for our sins.’  (1 John 4:10)  
 
Oh my people, as I said earlier on, the LOVE of God for us is indeed a bit much for our frail and feeble minds to comprehend.  
 
And as the scholars say in their note: ‘4:10.  No human LOVE is the standard for understanding God’s great compassion, but God’s own action on man’s behalf.’
 
So having said all of that, let’s hope that our souls and spirits are now relaxed and relieved since we have finally come to the realization that God does have a very great and deep LOVE for His human creation, regardless of their behaviour. Much LOVE!
 
…until the truth of God’s LOVE really sinks into our psyche…into our souls…we’ll never be truly filled with His joy…
