Today’s Scrip-Bit   29 January 2024 Proverbs 21:4.

Proverbs 21:4.       An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing (lamp) of the wicked, is sin.

And as Sunday goes into the annals of history, Monday comes storming in like a bold, proud warrior, so sure of himself that he defies anyone to defeat him! But little does Monday know that there’s a group of strongmen called Christians, believers in the Lord of Lords, King of Kings and Light of the world, Jesus Christ, just waiting to devour him in His bright sunshine, as he comes strutting in with his pompous self. He obviously doesn’t know that the Leader of that group of strong, steadfast and faithful believers, Almighty God, hates pride and arrogance, and summarily destroys all those who bear those negative traits.

It says so, right in the Lord’s Word, per Cousin Sol. ‘These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look (haughty eyes), a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood. An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations (devises wicked plans), feet that be swift in running to mischief (trouble). A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.’ (Prov. 6:16-19) Yes friends, those seven things and people who reflect them, our Lord hates with a passion.

But please note which one Cousin Sol puts first: the man with the proud and haughty demeanour, or behaviour. The Lord dislikes such a man because his behaviour indicates to the Lord that he is above the dictates of God, and therefore has no use for Him. And there’s nothing that gets the Lord’s anger going like one of His petty human creations playing the big man and refusing to bow down to Him.

And Bruh David said it thus in Psalm 101, when he describes the perfect King, hoping that he himself would follow those dictates, but also foretelling of his descendant, Jesus Christ being the one to fulfill that ideal picture. Re pride, he says: ‘’Whoso privily (secretly) slandereth his neighbour, him will I cut off (destroy): him that hath an high look and proud heart will not I suffer (endure).’ (Ps. 101: 5) That just goes to show that the perfect king, that’s Jesus, dislikes the proud and will not put up with him.

Meanwhile later on in Proverbs, Cousin Sol states it thus: ‘An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing (lamp) of the wicked, is sin.’ (Prov. 21:4) As one translation puts it: ‘Arrogance and pride – distinguishing marks in the wicked – are just plain sin.’ That’s for certain sure! But the plowing of the wicked basically means: ‘their work, all they do; for it is not done to please God but themselves; nor carried on in His strength, but in reliance upon their own, and therefore it is “sin,” not pleasing to Him.’

And the bibleref.com website gives this commentary on the verse. ‘This proverb notes that immoral people are guided by arrogance and selfishness. In effect, the arrogant person worships himself. Their life is defined and guided by their preferences, instead of a sincere interest in God’s truth (Proverbs 3:1-5). Such attitudes are completely incompatible with submission to Him (Proverbs 6:16-19; Psalm 101:5).’  You cannot dispute those statements my brethren, because they are pure truth. Our God dislikes anything that smacks of arrogance and selfishness.

Then, in Romans chapter 1, where Bruh Paul talks about ‘God’s Wrath Against Ungodliness,’ in the long list of ungodly deeds and doers, he includes: ‘Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful (violent), proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,’ (Rom. 1:30) Yuh see that the proud have also made it to Bruh Paul’s list of ungodly things.

And Jesus verily informed us that ‘There is nothing from without (outside) a man, that entering him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile him.’ (Mark 7:15) Then he ended his discourse with these words. ‘Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness (licentiousness), an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: all these evil things come from within, and defile the man.’ (Mark 7:22-23) Jesus said it; therefore, it must be true!

That’s why James could advise us about being enemies of God, if we desire to be friends with the world, and one of the many things the world prizes is pride. James says: ‘But he giveth more grace, Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.’ (James 4:6-7) That means if we’re seeking God’s grace, then the first thing to do is be humble before Him, because He prizes humility above most of the other human attributes.

And being humble doesn’t mean being fearful and weak kneed, but showing the proper reverence and respect for our powerful God and Creator, knowing that our dreams and desires, our very lives are in His mighty hands. And we’ll take this last potent scripture from John’s first epistle, where he solemnly warns us. ‘For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh (physical desires), and the lust of the eyes (personal desires), and the pride of life (self-interests), is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.’ (1 John 2:16-17)

Now,  with those awesome words of wisdom, let’s go to the throne of grace, humbly, but confidently, and through our Monday Morning Battle Hymn, ask for divine help in this our time of desperate need. Altogether now: ‘Our Father, who art in heaven, we, Your humble servants, praise Your Holy Name and thank You this Monday morning for life and strong faith in Christ, despite the mass confusion in our world. Heavenly Father, You are the ONLY ONE with the power to solve our many problems.

Yes, we have all sinned and seriously disobeyed Your Word, but You are a merciful, forgiving and gracious God, who has faithfully promised to hear and answer our prayers when we humble ourselves, pray, and sincerely seek Your face. So, we come to You now, with sincere repentance in our hearts, pleading for wise guidance and direction to alleviate our problems. Oh Father, please ease the pain of the many suffering from negative situations, show them Your awesome grace and mercy. And faithfully keep Your promise to prosper us if we turn from our evil ways. Show this evil world that You are indeed Jehovah Rapha; the God who heals! We pray this in the holy and blessed name of Your Son, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! Amen! And again, we say: Amen!’

And there’s only one way to get divine help, that’s by turning from our evil ways to godly ones! Much LOVE!

…only by pride cometh contention (strife)…but with the well advised is wisdom… (Prov. 13:10)

Today’s Scrip-Bit   22 March 2023 Micah 6:8.

Micah 6:8. He hath showed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to LOVE mercy (LOVING-kindness), and to walk humbly with thy God.

And then it was Wednesday all over again! Thank the Lord! Ah friends, the days are rolling along, just like the Creator programmed them. They will continue to roll along as long as the earth exists, but we will not, because we have a finite time to experience the earth before we return to the dust from which we were made.

As Bruh David says in Psalm 103: ‘As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth. For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more (not remember it). But the mercy (LOVING-kindness) of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear (reverence) him, and his righteousness unto children’s children. To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them.’ (Ps. 103:15-18)

Yes my people, man’s life is unpredictable. He can be here today, then gone tomorrow. It all depends on the Lord’s plan. We grow up quickly and wither just as quickly. But while we are here, it behooves us, it is wise to enjoy the largesse of our great God. That means keeping His commandments, revering and LOVING Him, the way He desires us to. And what does all that mean, you ask? I think the prophet Micah puts it best, in simple language. ‘He hath showed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to LOVE mercy (LOVING-kindness), and to walk humbly with thy God.’ (Mic. 6:8).

Yes friends, that is basically all that the Lord our God asks of us. To be just and merciful and walk humbly before Him. And yes, doing those things can get somewhat complicated and difficult at times, especially when we are goaded by the devil to do otherwise. But with the help of the Lord’s Spirit that dwells within us, we can do them, if we are serious about living for Christ. And possibly the most important of those three things listed above is to walk humbly before God. Why? Because there’s nothing the Lord dislikes as pride and a haughty nature, because it says that you don’t need Him.

Remember Cousin Sol remarked in Proverbs that there are seven things the Lord dislikes, that He considers an abomination unto His Spirit. And the first is ‘A proud look or haughty eyes.’ But just for our information and remembrance, let’s check out all seven things the Lord considers abominable nuh. (smile) ‘A proud look (haughty eyes), a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations (devises wicked plans), feet that be swift in running to mischief (evil). A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.’ (Prov. 6:17-19)

And yuh know what? Unfortunately, in these turbulent and disastrous times, our world is flooded with all those abominations. They are all ever so prevalent, because our current society is built on pride, lies, evil plans, the shedding of innocent blood, injustice, gossip, false witness and those who stir up trouble for their own evil and ungodly purposes. In other words, our current society is built on abomination in the Lord’s eyes. No wonder He’s allowing all sorts of misfortune and disaster to happen in our world.

And we have gotten so big for our britches nowadays with the great advancements in our society, that we’ve come to the opinion that we no longer need God. Therefore, we are trying to get rid of Him. But that’s an impossibility. For He will not allow it. And we need to wake up and realize that, otherwise we’ll sink even further down into the mire of Satan’s evil world and draw even further away from God, until we end up eternally separated from Him, which I keep reminding us is the worst fate that can ever befall a human soul.

And James, Jesus’ brother spelled out our current predicament very well way back then, when He wrote: ‘From whence come wars (conflicts) and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts (desires for pleasure) that war in your members? Ye lust, and have not: ye kill (murder), and desire to have (covet), and cannot obtain: ye fight and war (battle), yet ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts (pleasures). Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of (with) the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will (wants to) be a friend of the world is (makes himself) the enemy of God.’ (James 4:1-4)

Oh my fellow saints, unfortunately that is indeed the current state of our world. If James thought things were bad back in his time, he wouldn’t want to see them now. But while showing us the error of our ways, he has also instructed us in how to turn things around. Listen up as he writes. ‘Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy (yearns jealously)? But he giveth more grace, Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Draw nigh (near) to God, and he will draw nigh (near) to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted (lament), and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness (gloom). Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. Speak not evil of one another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?’ (James 4:5-12).

And is that ever the gospel truth! So now that we know our problems and the solution to them, it’s up to us change, or just remain with the ungodly status quo. But if we sincerely desire to see godly change, then we’ll begin doing those things that James has advised, like humbling ourselves, turning away from the lustful things of the world, stop speaking lies and doing evil, etc. etc. And for those of us who have already made that decision to live for God, let’s go home declaring (chuh!!!) our Wednesday Wail, letting all and sundry know of our marvellous position in Christ Jesus.

Altogether now: ‘Wednesday, Wednesday, Wednesday: I’m so glad to be alive on this Wednesday! Wednesday, Wednesday, Wednesday: Thank God the breath of life is still flowing through me on this Wednesday! I am halfway home. My hands are fixed securely on the plough, and I’m not turning back. I’m not looking back at the past, not focusing on what has gone before. But my eyes are fixed straight ahead; straight ahead to a glorious future with Jesus. Glory Hallelujah!’

And it’s been promised that if we endure right down to the very end with Jesus, that future will be even more glorious than we can ever ask or imagine. And who doesn’t want to see a glorious future eh? So let’s endure nuh! Much LOVE!

…it’s ever so foolish to fight against God…on the side of Satan…an already vanquished foe…

Today’s Scrip-Bit 8 January 2021 Psalm 37:1.

Psalm 37:1.     Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.

And so, as the world turns slowly on its axis, once again we come to Friday, the day we all LOVE and revere, because it reminds us that our work week will soon be over. The only problem here though, is that many of us are not working, or are afraid to go out after work, or there’s no way to go because all the watering holes and other places of excitement are shut tight. That’s why it’s surprising that the number of COVID-19 cases are trending upward every day.

Remember when we were aghast at a few hundred? Now a few thousand is the norm, despite the introduction of a vaccine, repeated lockdowns and entreaties to stay safe and observe the necessary rules. But who listens in this selfish, me-first, I don’t care about anybody else society eh? Enough of me though, (smile) let’s hear the ordinary workingman’s take on the situation nuh, we haven’t heard from him in a while.

His greeting is the same, but not very enthusiastic. ‘TGIF! Thank God is Friday…and at least I’m alive, not like so many others who aren’t. Ah Lord eh…what’s becoming of our world eh? People still dropping like flies from this Covid business…and to make matters worse, no work. Can’t tell when last ah went to work nuh…or when next I might go. That is if the slave master still going to have a job for me. With the state of the economy, who knows? The li’l money we getting from the government just keeping we from starving.

And the school situation ain’t no better…one day they learning online, next they going to school, then they staying home again. Ah wish somebody would make up their blooming minds and stop playing musical schools with the children! And what kind of leaders we have eh, when they telling us to stay home, but so many of them going holidaying around the world…and getting away with it too? They obviously believe in the ‘do as I say, not as I do’ philosophy.

And then look at that crazy, egotistic jack-a down in the U.S nuh. Instead of bringing the country together, he focussed on fomenting insurrection, just so he could stay in power and get away from the squalid jail cell that waiting for him. Hn! He not going to get away from it though! And just look at all the people who fraid him nuh and doing his lying, foolish, criminal bidding! Brother! What kind of leaders we have nowadays eh? No balls whatsoever! Is only greed and fear and corruption that fuelling them! They don’t give a darm about the people they suppose to be representing and who money they thiefing!

And we Canadians shouldn’t get uppity nuh with we noses in the air nuh, because we have the same kind up here in Canada too, just on a smaller scale! But as a pardner keep telling me, ‘time longer than twine yes boy,’ and all ah dem twine soon run out. Glory to God that He still on the throne oui, and have His own plans for the wicked.’

Oh friends, I’m chuckling at the ordinary workingman’s tale, but deep down we all know what he’s saying is true. We’ve lost our way in this selfish and evil world, and what li’l LOVE we had for humanity has now disappeared completely! Can you imagine leaders behaving so irresponsibly so blatantly? At least before they would hide and act shamefaced if they were caught. Not now though. They couldn’t give a darm! Who doesn’t like it, tough on them! That seems to be the prevailing attitude. But as the ordinary workingman reminds us, the Lord God Almighty is still on the throne, and His eyes are on both the righteous and the wicked, with His own plans in store for either set.

And it just happens that the Good Book is open in front of me in the sayings of Cousin Sol, on what he terms the seven deadly sins. ‘These six things doth the Lord hate; yea, seven are an abomination unto him (his soul): A proud look (haughty eyes), a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that deviseth wicked imaginations (devises wicked plans and schemes), feet that be swift in running to mischief (evil), A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.’ (Prov. 6:16-19)

Oh mih people, those abominations Cousin Sol listed so long ago are exactly the ones that are most prominent in our society today! No wonder our world is in such a serious state of upheaval and disaster! But there is hope my brethren! Yes there is indeed hope, because our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is alive and kicking, and when He’s ready, He’s going to be kicking the butt of the wicked right into outer darkness and damnation!

Listen to these reassuring words of Bruh David from Psalm 37, re The true state of the wicked. ‘Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.’ (Ps. 37:1-2)

Yes friends, every dog will have its day, but the final word will be the Lord’s. Hear how Bruh David puts it nuh: ‘The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth. The Lord shall laugh at him, for he seeth that his day is coming. The wicked have drawn out the sword, and bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, and to slay such as be of upright conversation (conduct). Their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken.’ (Ps. 37:12-15)

Oh my fellow saints in Christ, that’s the future of the wicked, so please, let’s not envy them, or join with them, because they will soon be no more! Just like the promise the Lord made to the Israelites through Moses when they were fleeing Egypt and the Egyptian army was hot on their heels at the Red Sea. ‘And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still and see the salvation (deliverance) of the Lord, which he will show to you today: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.’ (Ex. 14:13)

And the Lord kept that promise when He drowned the whole Egyptian army in the Red Sea. And that’s the self-same promise He’s giving to us today my people; if we will turn to Him and be not afraid, He will fight for us. Now let’s go to him in prayer nuh, carry all our burdens, cast our care on His strong and mighty shoulders, take up His yoke, as He desires of us, so that He can strengthen and refresh us. In unison and sincerity, let’s send up our Friday Chant to heaven.

‘Oh Lord, thanks for getting me safely through this past week. Yuh know it’s been rough… what with all the anxiety, the confusion and havoc that the Covid-19 virus and the racial strife causing. We not accustomed to that kind of life Lord, and it really telling on us. And we know we can’t handle it on our own, that we desperately need your help.

Oh heavenly Father, with your omnipotent help, and our trusting faith, we know that we can stand strong and steadfast and defeat both the virus and the unrest in our streets. So Lord, we sincerely ask you today to give the governments and those involved in the forefront of this serious and unexpected storm, the sure and wise guidance to handle the situation properly, with the least amount of loss to life and property as possible.

And please help those of us who must go out to work amidst all the confusion, to be responsible and to stay safe, so that we can avoid any more serious setbacks. And Lord, we fervently pray that You’ll use this situation to also bring a lot of backsliders back to your fold, show them the error of their ways. It’s also a good opportunity to introduce a whole new flock, who will embrace your LOVE and compassion because of the way we, your faithful believers, handle the situation.

Yes Lord, please use this pandemic and the unrest in the streets as a means of restoring faith in You, so that our sinful world can wake up and smell the coffee, sweet and strong! We pray this in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! Amen!’

Now let’s really show our Christian side nuh, for we are the ONLY hope our world has! Much LOVE!

…it’s time for our salt to be the most flavourful…and our light to shine the brightest…

P.S. Yes, it’s long, but good and necessary! (smile) Much LOVE!

Today’s Scrip-Bit 14 September 2020 Psalm 118:8.

Psalm 118:8.     It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.

So here we are on a Monday morning in mid-September of this historic year 2020, amidst numerous calamities, many trials and much tribulation, overwhelming adversity like most of us have never seen before – and are not liable to see ever again. But the sad fact is that they are here with us, we can’t run away and hide from them, or simply wish then away, that means we have to step up to the plate and deal with them mano-a-mano.

And the first step in dealing with any problem is one we all know, but don’t invoke as often as we should. I’m referring to turning to Almighty God in prayer; taking our problems to Him and asking for His divine guidance and wisdom in handling them. The sad fact is that too many of us first try to solve our problems ourselves, or turn to other humans, and when that doesn’t work, then, and only then, will we probably turn to God as a last resort. But friends that’s the ultimate in stupidity!

Remember what the psalmist advises: ‘It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to put confidence in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.’ (Ps. 118:8-9) So, regardless of the earthly status of a human being, our trust and confidence in them ought to be very carefully considered and not taken for granted. That in turn means, our great and sovereign God ought to be our avenue of FIRST resort, rather than the LAST! That kind of action shows up our foolish pride and our lack of faith in Him.

And you know one thing our God dislikes with a passion is foolish pride that shows up in our not trusting or needing Him. Hear how Bruh David puts it on the Lord’s behalf: ‘Whoso privily (secretly) slandereth his neighbour, him will I cut off: him that hath a high look and a proud heart will not I suffer (endure).’ (Ps. 101:5) And Cousin Sol further reminds us that amongst the seven deadly sins that the Lord hates is ‘A proud look (haughty eyes), a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood.’ (Prov. 6:17)

But unwisely, those are the very things that we have chosen to pursue in our society. We trust man more than God, so much so that we’ve been trying to get God completely out of society, having already removed Him from our schools, our homes and public places. Sadly too, even a lot of what we preach in the church nowadays is not His truth. And don’t talk about lying tongues and the shedding of innocent blood… Brother! Those are some of the hallmarks of our modern, technological society!

And we can also add a few more things that are abominations to our God, but which rank very high in our society. ‘A heart that deviseth wicked imaginations (devises wicked plans), feet that be swift in running to mischief (evil). A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.’ (Prov. 6:18-19) Yes my people, all those things which the Lord finds abominable, despicable and distasteful, unfortunately are mainstays of our current society. So what else can we expect if we do all that God dislikes eh? Nothing but pain and sorrow, heartache and calamity!

But the wonderful thing about the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is that He is a most forgiving God, and if mankind repents and turns from his evil ways, the Lord is willing to forgive Him. In fact, He’s rather ecstatic when that happens, it warms the cockles of His heart. And I don’t know how many times I have to say it before we believe it: the Lord might not have brought all our worldwide problems upon us, but He has certainly allowed them because He’s tired of our evil ways and our trying to get rid of Him. That’s it in a nutshell.

And until we realize the error of our ways and turn back to Him in repentance, our problems will keep on driving us crazy. Therefore, in true wisdom, let’s take our problems to God in sincere prayer this morning nuh, so that He can alleviate, or show us how to alleviate them. So in faithful confidence, with humble, sincere hearts, let’s present our petitions heavenward, through our Monday Morning Battle Hymn.

‘Our Father, who art in heaven, we, Your humble servants, praise Your Holy Name and thank You that this Monday morning we’re alive and standing in faith despite the mass confusion that’s currently prevailing in our world. We desperately need Your divine help, for You are the ONLY ONE with the power to solve our many problems; the pandemic of Covid -19, the racial, political, and religious strife that’s ignited worldwide, plus the natural disasters like storms, famine, drought, plagues, climate change, wildfires, earthquakes and erupting volcanoes that suddenly seem to be blossoming more and more as time goes by.

Heavenly Father, we admit that we have all sinned and seriously come short in obedience and compliance to Your Word, but we know that You are a merciful, forgiving and gracious God, and You have faithfully promised to hear and answer our prayers when we humble ourselves, pray, and sincerely seek Your face. That’s why we come to You now, with sincere repentance in our hearts, pleading with You to give us, ordinary folks, as well as our leaders, employers and medical personnel, wise guidance and direction to bring our problems under control.

And for those who are currently suffering from the many negative situations, we pray that You will ease their suffering and heal them. Father, please show them Your awesome grace and mercy, and keep Your promise that You’ll hear our prayer, forgive us, and heal our land if we turn from our evil ways. Show this evil world that You are indeed Jehovah Rapha; the God who heals! We pray this in the holy and blessed name of Your Son, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! Amen! And again we say: Amen!’

Now, our next move my brethren is to reduce the sin and evil in our hearts and in our land. For remember the Lord doesn’t just listen to our words, but more importantly He checks to see if the motives of our hearts are right. And remember too that we’ve just made a vow to repent and turn back to the Lord, so these words of Cousin Sol writing as the Preacher in Ecclesiastes are of the utmost importance. ‘When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer (delay) not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed.’ (Eccl. 5:4) End of story! Much LOVE!

…the created cannot overthrow the Creator…Lucifer tried…and failed miserably… (smile)
