Galatians 5:22-23. But the fruit of the Spirit is LOVE, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Mayday, Mayday, Mayday! Yes Friends, it’s May Day, the first of May already. Imagine that nuh! The year’s really moving along at a fast clip, though the first sentence doesn’t refer to the month of May, but an ice-hockey player, Brad May, who scored a winning goal for the Buffalo Sabres some years ago, and the announcer got so excited that that was his call. May 1st is a day of celebration all over the world, with Maypole dancing and such. It seems to have originated from a pagan celebration. But it is also an important day in the Labour field, called International Workers Day, with marches and such, commemorating and celebrating some of the hard fought victories won by dedicated workers and unions against a rigid, greedy, inhumane employer class in the last century. Unfortunately though, a lot of those rights and the power of workers are now being systematically eroded by governments and employers, trying to take us back to feudal times. Oh my people, we can’t afford to let that happen! Our world is already in a serious recession, many call it a depression, but whatever it is, we can’t afford to sink any lower. And as you well know it’s always the poor, the suffering, the ordinary workingman who suffers the most, bears the brunt of misfortune in those desperate and trying times. We all have to stand up as best we can and fight again, keep on fighting for those benefits so many fought and died for, because the employers are getting greedier and more inhumane and selfish, if that’s possible. They keep on paying themselves huge, unwarranted sums while cutting back the wages and benefits of the ordinary man, or simply laying him off, all in the name of the most important capitalist principle; boosting the bottom line. However Friends, there is one person who can help us in all our trials and tribulations; His name is Jesus, before whom all heads and knees will eventually bow. So don’t worry too much about the wicked, they will get their comeuppance in due time. Now here’s the last quote from the book, My Jesus is…Everything, by Anne Graham Lotz. It says: ‘Jesus – the only One – makes: God visible And change possible And happiness attainable And resources ample And suffering understandable And sin forgivable And heaven available! My Jesus is…EVERYTHING!’ And we all know that as gospel truth Friends, like money in the bank, so let’s take it to heart nuh and put it into action, the way Jesus desires, for truly He is the only way that we can inherit God’s kingdom. And our Bit tells us exactly what attributes we need to successfully walk with Jesus: ‘But the fruit of the Spirit is LOVE, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness (kindness), goodness, faith (faithfulness), Meekness, temperance (self-control): against such there is no law.’ But before delving into them individually, let’s get a general overview from the scholars: ‘In contrast to the works (plural) of the flesh, which any individual is capable of performing, the fruit (singular) of the Holy Spirit can be produced only by God. Christian character thus results from ‘Christ living in me.’ For this fruit to develop, all nine aspects of the fruit of the Spirit must mature. Illustration: The character of Christ is the fullest manifestation of this fruit in the New Testament. Though Jesus did not recognize the traditions of men, His enemies were unable to prove any charge against Him. Application: So today Christians should allow the Holy Spirit to develop this character within them, so they might be blameless before others and not hinder the testimony of Christ.’ And we’ll end with two scriptural references the scholars point out, both from Exodus, when the Israelites were about to build God’s tabernacle. ‘And Moses said unto the children of Israel, See, the Lord hath called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah; And he hath filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship…And he hath put in his heart that he may teach, both he, and Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan Them hath he filled with wisdom of heart, to work all manner of work….’ (Ex.35:30-31, 34-35) ‘And Moses called Bezaleel and Aholiab, and every wise-hearted man, in whose heart the Lord had put wisdom, even every one whose heart stirred (lifted) him up to come unto the work to do it.’ (Ex.36:2) Yes Friends, the Holy Spirit, can, and will do wonders within us, if we’ll only allow it to. So let’s pray and ask the Father for tender, malleable hearts that will listen and bear plenty, beautiful fruits of His Holy Spirit. More on this tomorrow, if we wake up alive. (smile) Sadly Friends, many of us are only alive in body, but certifiable dead in spirit. Much LOVE!…being saved is fine…but then we need to show it…by our works…by our actions…by the fruit of our spirit…

Proverbs 1:7. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Well Friends, it’s Friday… ‘Thank God for that yes!’ the uplifted hands and voices solemnly declare. ‘Thank God is Friday, so I can get a li’l break from this drudgery!’ Ah mih people, unfortunately most of us toil at jobs we don’t like, but that’s how it is in an imperfect, fallen world. We should sincerely give thanks for our blessings though, because the job at least keeps a roof over our heads and bread on the table. A large portion of our world has neither. In any case, if you’re a true believer, you just have to go out and do the job to the best of your ability with as little complaining as possible, plus a smile on your face and a song in your heart as Jesus desires us to do. (smile) I know it’s not always as easy as it sounds, but that’s the reality of Jesus’ plan. Now to get us some right perspective for the upcoming weekend, let’s chant our Friday Chant with some godly verve and enthusiasm. In one loud, cohesive voice: ‘Oh Lord, thanks for getting me safely through another week of work! It hasn’t been easy, but with your generous help, I made it through. Now, please help me to get sufficient fun, fellowship, rest and relaxation in these two short days off, so that I can be renewed and refreshed in soul, body and mind, to go back out and do it all over again next week, furthering your glorious kingdom with each step I take. I pray this in Jesus name. Amen.’ Hope that eases your anxious minds and gets you back on track, so that you can enjoy the weekend with your friends, family, fellow believers and Jesus. For as our Bit so wisely declares: ‘The fear (reverential awe) of the Lord is the (principal) beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.’ Oh Friends, that statement is one we should never forget; one we should always keep within easy reach of our hearts and minds, so that when Beelzebub comes a calling, we can call it up to help us chase him away. Note, he’s very persistent, so we have to be even stronger and more steadfast in our faith to be able to resist him, and knowing how and where wisdom comes from will certainly assist us in giving the boot to the evil Lucifer. However, let’s continue looking at scriptures that corroborate our Bit. And the first one today comes from Proverbs: ‘the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the Holy (One) is understanding.’ (Prov.9:10) Some of the words are different to our Bit, but the content and intent are the same; only by knowing, reverencing and respecting Jehovah God, can one get true wisdom and understanding. Cousin Sol repeats it in Proverbs 15, but with another twist: ‘The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom: and before honour is humility.’ (Prov.15:33) That’s oh so right Friends! In God’s kingdom, before we can acquire wisdom we must be respectful, and before we can receive honour, we must come to Him with a humble heart, because foolish pride which we display when we try to be independent only makes Him angry. And we certainly don’t want the Lord’s wrath raining down on us. Then Micah, during the Lord’s contention with Israel, spells out the Lord’s requirements to them. He’s not interested in burnt offerings and sacrifices, just like Samuel told Saul (1 Sam.15:22) ‘He hath showed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to LOVE mercy (LOVING-kindness), and to walk humbly with thy God?’ (Mic.6:8) Yes my brethren, true wisdom is doing exactly what the Lord requires. And since neither He nor His Word changes, then that declaration also applies to us today. We can’t get away from it by saying that’s Old Testament stuff which doesn’t apply to us in this modern age. On the contrary Friends, everything in the Old Testament, possibly besides the sacrifice system and the Jewish devotions, still pertain today. Note how both Jesus and Bruh Paul use the Old Testament to prove and boost the New. So please don’t be fooled by anyone who says that the Old Testament is passé. Are the Ten Commandments passé? ABSOLUTELY NOT! That brings us to the next scripture where Moses warns the Israelites about obeying the Lord when they enter the Promised Land. ‘That thou mightest fear (stand in awe of) the Lord thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.’ (Deut.6:2) Ah mih people, that is one warning that we, like the Israelites, have totally ignored. We definitely have not taught the Lord’s Word to our children, otherwise they would not be as depraved and godless as they are. That is one big failing our generation will have to answer for. Could that be part of the reason why so many of our children are dying so young from things like suicide, drugs, alcoholism, immorality, gang violence, etc. etc? If they had been more versed in the scriptures would they have stood a better chance? Who knows? And we’ll end with an appropriate scripture from the Preacher: ‘Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgement, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.’ (Eccl.12:13-14) And that’s the gospel truth Friends! So please take it to heart and put it into action TODAY, so that your wisdom can be known and your duty done! Much LOVE!…they only are wise and understanding…who follow the dictates of the ONE TRUE GOD…He of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob…

Proverbs 20:27. The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord, searching all the inward parts of the belly.
Oh people, oh people, I’m here to tell you all that it’s Friday; the start of the weekend! ‘Wow!’ one listener replies in disbelief. ‘Yuh really mean to say is Friday ahready? Ah been so busy this week, ah don’t even know what day it is.’ Meanwhile, another listener replies with a sense of grateful relief. ‘Thank God is Friday yes! Ah work so hard this week, that ah tired everlasting!’ Then a third response comes rolling in, this one in an exuberant voice: ‘Thank God is Friday! Thank God is party time!’ But a fourth voice steups’ loudly and declares in a dark tone: ‘Ah don’t know what you so happy about nuh. Yuh doh know today is Friday the thirteenth, Black Friday? Bad things going to happen today.’ Yes Friends, those are some of the varying responses possible on this last day of the work week, the one we all die to see from the time we step out to battle on a Monday morning. Isn’t it strange though, the different reactions we can get? How our response differs in regards to our activities, circumstances and perceptions? Well to set us all on the right path, let’s chant our Friday Chant. That will give us the true response and right perception for it. All as one now: ‘Oh Lord, thanks for getting me safely through another week of work! Amen.’ And now that we’ve been set straight, (smile) let’s check out the wisdom of our Bit: ‘The spirit of man is the candle (lamp) of the Lord, searching all the inward parts (chambers) of the belly.’ And that my Friends is gospel truth! The spirit of man here is the Holy Spirit of God that dwells in us and acts like a housekeeper, a nanny, a chief cook and bottle washer. It gets into every nook and cranny of our being, because it’s there to lead and guide us, clean us up when we get dirty, pick us up when we fall and bring us to heel when we stray. It’s the workhorse of the Trinity. Here’s how Job describes it: ‘But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration (breath) of the Almighty giveth them understanding.’ (Job 32:8) That’s so true Friends. Without the breath of God, His Spirit in our souls, we’d even more ignorant, sinful and ungodly than we already are. Now listen to Bruh Paul’s take on the subject. Talking to the Corinthians re wisdom being God’s gift, quoting Is. 64:4, he boldly declares: ‘But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that LOVE Him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of man, save (except) the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.’ (1 Cor.2:9-11) And we’ll end with an explanation from the scholars on those verses. ‘The apostle Paul deals with three vital doctrines. In verse 10 he touches on the doctrine of revelation. The truth Paul is talking about is contained in the record God has given to us – the Bible. This is the eternal and unchanging truth of God. Verse 11 deals with the doctrine of illumination, which has to do with human understanding of divine truth. The subject of verses 12 and 13 is the doctrine of inspiration. In verse 12 Paul talks about the content of inspiration. In verse 13 his concern is with the communication of inspiration. Paul’s message was not of human contrivance. He was a channel, simply communicating God’s truth.’ See Gal.1:11-12, for that pronouncement. Ah mih people, I hope that clarifies any problems we might have had on the subject. Obviously we did not get into verses 12 and 13, but I trust that you’ll read it for yourselves and thus get understanding on the whole topic of the way God reveals Himself to us and lets us know what He desires of us. Please follow this up with your own investigations of the Good Book, for remember the Bit is only a tool to keep us focused on the Almighty and can only deal with so much given the space and time allotments. We each must still read, meditate, pray, praise and question on our own. Now may the good Lord bless us and keep us safe this day, as we try to live a life of faith. Much LOVE!…without the amazing Spirit of God working in us…we’d be lost and tossed…like a rudderless ship on a stormy sea…
