John 12:49. For I have not spoken of myself, but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
Oh Friends, our God is a great God yes, but sometimes He can be a bit harsh. Imagine this scene nuh: The duchess and the ole fella in sunny Tobago, cavorting with Friends and family. We hanging out with mih favourite uncle, Uncle Foster, up by the old house where I use to live, at the corner of Main and Bacolet Streets. The ole fella even expatiating to a poor mentally challenged lady about the poor mental health benefits even in the rich countries. Meanwhile she is sitting by the window where my grandfather sat every evening, watching the fowls go to sleep in the soursop tree, before he went to bed too. I’m even in Miss Armstrong’s parlour across the road, looking to buy goodies from Cowie’s bakery down Carnbee. Then all of a sudden reality hits! I wake up in cold, wet, miserable Canada, where all night, a wicked wind has been forcing the naked, unprotected, defenceless trees to dance to its merciless up-tempo tango. Hn! I can tell you it sure was a major let down. And the strange thing is that usually I hardly remember any of the details of my dreams when I awaken, but this one in Tobago was burned, etched in stone in my mind. Now Friends, I can either look at that dream as a tease or a promise. But as far as I’m concerned it IS A PROMISE! Thank you Lord! And having received the promise of a promise (smile) and having stored it safely in my heart, let’s turn to our Bit. ‘For I have not spoken of myself (my own authority), but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.’ It’s the same as yesterday, so I can share those scriptures I promised, cause I want to be as faithful as our God, when I promise something. (Heb.10:23) And to introduce it all, listen to the thrilling testimony of John the Baptist. ‘He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all. And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth (bears witness to); and no man receiveth his testimony. He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal (certified) that God is true. For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him. The Father LOVETH the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.’ (John 3:31-35) There John the Baptist sets the stage for Jesus’ coming. And when Jesus came and healed a man at a pool in Bethesda on the Sabbath, the hypocrite Jews set out to persecute Him. But Jesus in His calm manner informed them: ‘My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.’ (John 5:17) Well that only got the religious zealots even more fired up, for Jesus had not only committed a cardinal sin of working on the Sabbath, but was now also blaspheming by claiming He was the Son of God. Mama Mia! That certainly wouldn’t do! But I can just imagine Jesus standing there, looking the hypocrites straight in the eye and answering: ‘Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise. For the Father LOVETH the Son, and showeth him all things that himself doeth: and he will show him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.’ (John 5:19-20) Then later in that same speech, Jesus further declares: ‘I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgement is just (righteous); because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me. If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true (valid as testimony).’ (John 5:30-31) Yes Friends, though Jesus was God incarnate, He didn’t give Himself any unnecessary airs and graces, but constantly deflected all glory to the Father. Now later on, in talking about Abraham’s descendants, He tells the Pharisees: ‘I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you. I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.’ (John 8:37-38) Meaning, we usually do the things our fathers do, but unfortunately they didn’t have the right Father like Him. Then, when Jesus teaches the disciples about the way to the Father and Philip asks Him to show them the Father, (John 14:8) Jesus gently rebukes him. ‘Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, show us the Father? Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words I speak unto you I speak not of myself (of mine own authority): but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth works. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works sake.’ (John 14:9-11) Ah mih brethren, it’s amazing that despite all the awesome works that Jesus did, the religious leaders still doubted His authority. It reminds me of the man, blind from birth, that He healed and the Pharisees kept harassing the man about it. Finally he got fed up and simply told them he didn’t know anything about Jesus, just that He healed him, and if they didn’t like that too bad. But as far as he was concerned, He was a man of God, otherwise He couldn’t have healed him. Matter fixed! (John 9;30-33) And our last scripture comes from when Jesus promises the Holy Ghost to the disciples. Judas, (not Iscariot) asked how He would show it to them and not the rest of the world? (John 14:22) Jesus replied: ‘If a man LOVE me, he will keep my words: and my Father will LOVE him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode (home) with him. He that LOVETH me not keepeth not my sayings (words): and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me.’ (John 14:23-24) So Friends, having heard the word of the Father, through the Son, let’s go out now and put it into action nuh. It’s our bounden duty as believers. Much LOVE!…if you LOVE Jesus…then you automatically LOVE the Father…and He automatically LOVES you back…what a glorious arrangement…

Oh Friends, this earthly life is something else yes! One day you’re healthy, the next you’re sick as a dog. One day you’re getting better, at least so you think, next day you’ve suffered a relapse, and are possibly worse off than before. Steups! I believe the philosophers would say, such are the vicissitudes of life. (smile) Ah really not smiling though, because in the last few days whatever unwelcome ailment I have, has apparently taken up more serious residence in my body than previously suspected. After a rather rough weekend, I went to the medic yesterday, and wonder of wonders, he only had to put his stethoscope to my back once, to declare: ‘Oh no! It’s bronchitis! You need antibiotics!’ Chuh! That diagnosis didn’t surprise me all that much, but by the same token, when the medic makes a pronouncement, we all seem to take it more seriously. So here I am now, on the cusp of a ten day antibiotic programme. After all the recent news about resistant superbugs, I really hope this one works yes, because I’m really tired of this sickness business. For too long now, it has had me not knowing whether I’m coming or going and playing havoc with my life. Ah mih people, what’s happening to our medical prowess eh? More germs are being spread through and contacted in hospitals than ever before. You go there for a simple procedure and never come back out because of something you caught there. And as fast as we pick up one thing, something else crops up. The diseases are mutating faster than we can handle them. And the sad part is that my current story is no longer the exception that it used to be ten years ago, even five, but now it’s the rule. So many people are contacting stuff, that it’s taking on nightmare proportions. Our immune systems no longer seem to be immune to much. So what now eh? Oh Friends, that’s just another tell-tale sign that we should be seeking to get closer to our Maker, than further away, as we are tending to do. Right now we’re supposed to be at the pinnacle of our evolutionary powers with all the modern technology we have at hand. But in practical terms, it seems that we’re really regressing, free falling into the abyss of despair and uncertainty. We’ve conquered so much of the earth that we now talk about it being a global village. But what benefits does that bring eh? Look at our worldwide economic situation. It’s the worse it’s being in many a year. But a few of the wealthy and powerful are doing better than ever. More billionaires are being made everyday. Yet poverty and hunger are possibly more widespread than they’ve ever being. Look at the health situation. It’s true that some people are being helped more than before, but millions of children are still dying from starvation and treatable childhood diseases. To make matters worse, things like polio, measles and tuberculosis, which we supposedly had conquered, are slowly but surely creeping back in, while the dreaded modern-day scourge of cancer now has us locked in a strangle hold, from which I don’t think we’ll ever escape, unless and until we change the way we live. And here I’m talking about the myriad of stuff that we put in our food, water and atmosphere, most of which have not been properly tested, and plenty of which are known carcinogens. Then look at the way we live nuh. Our societies have never been more selfish, greedy, resentful and warlike, though we call this our most humanistic period. Hn! War and strife rule the roost! So that even in supposed times of peace, we’re still at each other’s throat. All proper mores and manners have disappeared. There’s no longer any sense of honour in our societies. Most people don’t even know the word, much less what it means. Immorality is king; and thus one of the biggest commercial segments of our world society. That means godliness is fast taking a back seat. The family is no longer an important aspect of our culture, cause we’re ‘warring’ there too. True leadership is dead, as all our puppet-leaders are more interested in lining their pockets. And not only in the high echelons is corruption rampant, but in all walks of life, from top to bottom, and brazenly cultivated too. We won’t even mention crime, where ordinary people are scared to walk in many places in broad daylight, much less at night. The justice system is in shambles, a veritable joke, where criminals now expect to routinely receive two and three for one deals. Yes Friends, the courts are our new ‘Let’s Make a Deal’ programme. Domestic abuse seems to be on the rise again, if it ever went down. Parents are routinely killing their children and/ or themselves for foolish reasons. Mental health is seriously deteriorating, especially amongst the young, but help for the mentally afflicted is getting harder to come by. And I won’t even talk about the gun scene. We’re now in the age of the gun. And though the majority is against it, we’re allowing a small but powerful minority who profit from its spread, to tell us nonsense about its benefits. Steups! What benefits accrue from owning a gun eh, especially the sophisticated ones now being touted? The only thing I can think of is the saying, He who lives by the gun dies by the gun. It’s even been recently reported that slavery is more rampant than it was four hundred years ago. So what’s what eh? Ah Friends, this tirade wasn’t what I set out to write nuh. In fact I never really set out to write anything in particular, this all blossomed on its own accord. I guess the ugliness I’m seeing so prevalent in our world finally decided to come out. And what amazes me is that we’re looking for solutions in all the wrong places. And the one place where we will certainly find some respite, some solace from the numerous problems currently afflicting our society, we’re pushing further and further into the background. Yes Friends, I’m talking about our great God! The One who causes us to prosper in times of obedience. And also the One who causes us ‘sufferation’ in times of disobedience, like now. I’m truly surprised that more people aren’t making that connection, when it’s so obvious from the annals of history. And when you include the Word, it makes even more sense. But sense was something mankind obviously never had. You just have to look at Adam and Eve’s story to see that. They had everything, lived in a practical paradise. God only put one prohibition on them, as evidenced by our Bit. ‘And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.’ There’s no maybe or possibly in that directive Friends! It’s pure certainty all the way! So what happens? Our fore parents, weak, and foolishly beguiled by the evil one, ate from the forbidden tree. And they died exactly as promised! But yet, thousands of years later, we’re still doing the same thing; being disobedient to the directives of God, still following the foolish call, the empty lure of the evil one. And then we wonder why our world is in such a dysfunctional mess, why we’re dying and going to hell in the proverbial hand basket. Oh my people, when are we going to wake up and realize that Our God is real, and His pronouncements are very serious? Because until we do, there’ll be no surcease from our current demise. Much LOVE!…the question might be cloudy…but the answer’s as clear as daylight…JESUS…

MERRY CHRISTMAS 2012!
Well Friends, neighbours, fellow believers, and also you unbelievers, it’s CHRISTMAS DAY! Glory Hallelujah! At last the big day that’s been causing so much confusion in our already confused world has arrived. Merry Christmas to one and all! And believe me, the ole fella is shaking it a tad on the rough side this morning, because I went to church last night and didn’t get to bed until the wee hours of the morning. And when the Lord woke me up, some half an hour ago, at minutes to six, I really didn’t feel like getting up. But in good Jesus fashion, I forced myself to get up, because there was the Lord’s work to be done, a Bit to be written. Even now, I’m still a bit dozy, waiting for my two helpers, the caffeine and the Holy Spirit to kick in and raise my level of awareness. (smile) Chuh! I just turned around to take a sip of coffee and found that it all gone, so I have to settle for some water. Anyway Friends, as usual, the Lord’s in my corner and is guiding my every word, so I’m not worried. He’s so wonderful that He led me to Today’s Bit, as soon as I opened the Good Book, and has already shown me what He wants me to say, so it’s only left up to me to pull myself together and do His will. And since I try my best to be obedient, here goes. First off, let me say that I got two wonderful Christmas presents last night. The first one being my two daughters going to church with me. And a loud and grateful ‘Glory Hallelujah!’ rises up to heaven. I had asked them earlier on to go with me, but since they hem and hawed, I just decided to go by myself. But lo and behold, when I was ready to leave, they duly informed that they were coming. How can I look a gift horse in the mouth eh! Then on the way to church, I asked what had made them come. They informed me that that was my Christmas present, and gave me a big ‘Merry Christmas Daddy!’ Now I certainly would never look askance at my daughters going to church with me, for whatever reason. Then, wonder of wonders, when I got to church, I saw a long lost parishioner, one of my favourites, who had stopped coming to church for a while. Now don’t be jealous the rest of you, cause I have plenty favourites at church. (smile) But my heart definitely leapt for joy, and I said a heartfelt, ‘Thank You Lord!’ because he’s been an integral part of our leadership group, and it certainly hasn’t been the same these many months without him. Welcome back James! The Lord definitely moved you to return to the fold of St. Francis at a most appropriate time. Now what else did I want to say…? Oh yeh! On coming out of church after midnight, we discovered some wet snow gently falling. The Lord was obviously covering all His bases, giving the snow enthusiasts a little bit, so that when they sang about a white Christmas, they wouldn’t be lying. And strangely enough, there’s still a smattering of the white stuff in the area, so those who like it will wake up to it, though I guess it will all be melted away by lunch time. One more thing before we get into our Bit. Last week a fellow church member gave some of us a wonderful flyer explaining ‘WHY GOD MADE HUGS!’ AndI think it’s very worthwhile to be shared on this blessed day. Please say with me: ‘Everyone was meant to share God’s all-abiding LOVE and care; He saw that we would need to know a way to let these feelings show. So God made hugs – a special sign, A symbol of His LOVE divine, A circle of our open arms To hold in LOVE and keep out harm. One simple hug can do its part To warm and cheer another’s heart. A hug’s a bit of heaven above That signifies His perfect LOVE.’ And isn’t that the gospel truth my brethren! That’s exactly why Jesus came to earth – because of the Father’s great LOVE for us. And at the bottom of the flyer, there’s a coupon that’s good for one free hug, along with the admonition, ‘Hug someone you LOVE today!’ Please, please my people, let’s ensure that we do that on this special day nuh. If possible, hug many, but please hug at least one person today, show them God’s true LOVE, which is what the season is all about, as our Bit so nicely puts it: ‘For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.’ Oh mih breddren, that’s definitely the best thing that ever happened to our world! Isaiah prophesied it so beautifully centuries before it was fulfilled. ‘For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.’ (Is.9:6) And all those things surely describe Jesus to a T. But the last one, ‘Prince of Peace’ is what He particularly wants us, His followers, to focus on. He desires us to be peaceful souls and not the snarky, resentful, jealous, greedy people we can too often be. And according to our Bit, Jesus is also our ‘Saviour.’ Listen to how the angel of the Lord explained Mary’s predicament to her betrothed, Joseph. ‘And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS (SAVIOUR): for he shall save his people from their sins.’ (Matt.1:21) Now hear the scholars’ timely comments on that verse. ‘Call his name JESUS: The name of the child Jesus (Heb. Yehoshua) means “Jehovah Saves.” This points to the very purpose of Christ’s coming into the world – to save sinners. Placed early in the New Testament, this statement becomes the foundational concept of the gospel. Jesus, by His very name and nature, is the Saviour.’ Yes Friends, Jesus surely did save us from the penalty of death, which we so rightly deserved for our abominable sins, and for which we should all be eternally grateful. And as to being ‘Christ the Lord,’ listen to Peter tell it in his famous speech at Pentecost. ‘For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, Until, I make thy foes thy footstool…Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.’ (Acts 2:34-36) There you have it Friends, the fulfillment of the scripture. So let not your hearts be troubled. Our God is still on His throne running things. But please, please Friends, on this Christmas Day of 2012, let’s all take time out from all the fun and frolic, to have a quiet moment and seriously ponder, and sincerely appreciate the true reason for this glorious season; the birth of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour. Now go and have a good time with your friends and families, but remember, DRUNK OR SOBER, MIND YUH BUSINESS! Don’t give the evil, ever-lurking Beelzebub even one iota of a chance to disrupt the proceedings and steal your joy. MERRY CHRISTMAS, AND A PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR! Much LOVE!…what a truly wonderful world this would be…if we took the joy, the good news and the grace of God…through Jesus Christ…out into the world everyday…instead of just at Christmas time…

Psalm 119:130. The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.
Oh Friends, are you a Saturday child, were you born on a Saturday? Then unfortunately, according to our nursery rhyme, you have to work hard for a living. (smile) But don’t feel badly, because most of mankind also have to work hard for a living. It’s all part and parcel of our forefathers’ fall from grace. However, through the LOVING-kindness of our wonderful God, the sacrificed life of His Son, Jesus, and His Holy Spirit living in us, we’ve been granted some respite from the terrible drudgery and devastating troubles of this earthly life. And all God’s children gave a mighty shout of joy: ‘Oh thank You Father for sending Jesus to die on the cross to pay our sin debt in full! Thank You for giving us the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us in all righteousness! We praise and glorify Your Holy Name today and forever more!’ Yes Friends, we do serve and worship an awesome God! I don’t know when some of us will wake up and truly understand and believe that nuh. I sincerely hope that it won’t be too late for anyone. But it’s also comforting to know that once there’s breath flowing through our mortal coil, it’s NEVER too late, because the Most High is the God of second chances – even third, fourth and fifth. The problem though is that unless we read, understand and obey His dictates, we’re just wasting His time and ours. Why is that eh? Because as the psalmist so gloriously declares in our Bit: ‘The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.’ And isn’t that the undisputed truth, my fellow believers! For without God’s Word deeply embedded in our hearts and minds, we won’t be able to live the way He desires us to. Bruh David say it thus in Psalm 19, the creation and covenant of God. ‘The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.’ (Ps.19:8) Yes my people, when we read the scriptures, our hearts rejoice, our minds are enlightened, our eyes of faith are opened, causing us to develop discernment and focus. Now listen to how Cousin Sol, in his great wisdom, describes God’s Word in Proverbs. ‘For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life.’ (Prov.6:23) Oh Friends, the Lord’s dictates are ever so enlightening and guiding, because without them residing and resounding in our souls, we’d be totally lost in the utter darkness of this world, created by Lucifer and his evil minions! That’s why earlier on in this section warning against adultery, Cousin Sol says that we should not forsake the teachings of our parents, which should be the Word of God, but to ‘Bind them continually upon thine heart (and mind), and tie them about thy neck. When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.’ (Prov.6:21-22) Ah mih breddren, I couldn’t have said it any better! (smile) And what’s so great about God’s Word entering and taking up a sure reign in our souls is that it gives understanding even to the simple. That means Friends, you don’t have to be gifted with lots of natural intelligence to understand the word. Even a simpleton can, if he is prepared to read and meditate on it, for the Lord will gladly lead and guide him in his endeavour to learn and follow His dictates. And Bruh David verifies that by saying: ‘The law of the Lord is perfect, converting (restoring) the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.’ (Ps.19:7) Meanwhile, Cousin Sol describes one of the purposes of the Proverbs thus: ‘To give subtilty (prudence) to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.’ (Prov.1:4) The scholars explain that verse this way. ‘The simple are naive young people open to any influence, among the chief addressees in the book. Knowledge means the apprehension of reality, including an experiential knowledge of God. Discretion refers to the power of formulating and carrying out the right measures.’ That’s the beauty of learning God’s commands my people! They enable us to live as good and pure and righteous a life as we can on this sinful, ungodly earth. And we’ll let the psalmist take us home, as he praises the Lord for His care towards us. ‘The works of his hands are verity (truth) and judgement (justice); all his commandments are sure. They stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness. He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name. The fear of the Lord (an awe filled reverence toward the Lord) is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.’ (Ps.111:7-10) And all God’s people responded with a loud, thankful, ‘Hallelujah! Amen.’ We responded that way because it’s gospel truth Friends, which means that to restore some of the godliness our world has recently lost, we have to buckle down and seriously read the Word, so that we can understand it, and live the way it says we should. That’s the ultimate in wisdom my people! Therefore, let’s concentrate on becoming somewhat wiser than we are right now nuh. Much LOVE!…a true believer…must first know the Lord’s commands…then follow them as closely as possible…

1 Timothy 6:10. For the LOVE of money is the root of all evil; which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
Oh Friends, a beautiful Thursday morning is dawning out there! Praise the Lord! But according to the old nursery rhyme which we seem to be following this week, (smile) Thursday’s child has a far way to go. Unfortunately there is some truth to that, and not only for children born on a Thursday, but for all of us, regardless on what day of the week we were born. Our earthly journey can indeed be long in number of years, but thankfully, believers in Jesus have the wherewithal to withstand whatever comes against them in this life. And though Bruh Paul’s truthful declaration: ‘For all have sinned, and come (fallen) short of the glory of God;’ (Rom.3:23) involves us in ungodly activities, we, as followers of Jesus, also have the antidotes for that kind of behaviour. True repentance of sin that brings God’s generous forgiveness, with His mercy, grace and compassion, all help to lighten our heavy earthly loads. Not forgetting Jesus’ invitation for all who are heavy laden to come to Him and take His yoke, which is easy, and His burden which is light. (Matt.11:28-30) And to cap it all off, we also have the Holy Spirit that dwells within each believer, to give us wise and safe guidance and counsel along the straight and narrow way that we’re supposed to walk. Oh Friends, that’s why believers are called blessed! What with the new gifts our heavenly Father pours out on us each and every day, there’s no way for anybody to experience a better life on this earth than a true Christian. Unfortunately though, too many of us have repudiated the notion of God, or simply don’t believe in Him, and have chosen instead to go our own way, following the wide and winding path of this evil world. Consequently, we’ve lost all sight of and faith in God, foolishly turning to worldly idols like that spoken of in our Bit. ‘For the LOVE of money is the root of all (kinds of) evil; which while some coveted after (in their greediness), they have erred (strayed) from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.’ Oh my people, truer words have never been spoken! We just have to look at the mad rush nowadays to get money, either to hoard it, or to purchase material possessions. Money now seems to be the very lifeblood of our society and our world, and is thus causing a lot of evil stuff, a lot of grief and heartache. Fraud and corruption are possibly the biggest crimes going now, especially with the Internet spreading its dreaded tentacles far and wide. Almost everyday I get some e-mail about somebody wanting me to help them move oodles of money from somewhere to somewhere else, and if I, like a fool accept those grandiose promises from people I don’t know, I will only end up losing what little I have. But obviously some people are accepting them, otherwise they wouldn’t be persisting with the schemes. That just goes to show how greedy some of us are. Corruption is also rampant all over our world, from the highest position, right down to the lowest. Why? Because regardless of how much we have, we all still crave money, and/or the things that can be bought with it. But I’m here to remind us Friends, that money, or whatever it can buy is not the most important thing in our world. Serving and worshipping Almighty God with all our hearts, minds, bodies and souls is the NUMBER 1 commandment! Not running down money and earthly possessions. And until we begin seriously following that first commandment, our lives and our world will continue to be an ungodly mess. Sadly, money has been the source of negative actions from long ago, and today we’ll look at a perfect example found in the Good Book. During the early days of the church, the brethren lived a somewhat communal lifestyle, with everybody pooling their resources and sharing it as was necessary. However in Acts 5, we have the story of a husband and wife team, Ananias and Sapphira, who sold a plot of land but kept back a part of the money, lying that what they offered, was what they had sold it for. But the Lord revealed Ananias’ deceit to Peter, who then reprimanded him. ‘Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? While it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power (control)? why has thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost (breathed his last): and great fear came on all them that heard these things.’ (Acts 5:3-5) Then some three hours later, the wife, Sapphira shows up, and not knowing that her husband had died, also lied to Peter about the money. ‘Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt (test) the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out. Then fell she down straightway (instantly) at his feet, and yielded up the ghost (breathed her last): and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband. And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.’ (Acts 5:9-11) Oh Friends, maybe that is what we need to happen today to wake us up from our greedy, lying state of mind! Ananias and Sapphira were not compelled to give all they had, because it was voluntary giving, but the hypocrisy caused their downfall. Besides that, they were lying to God, through His church, to which they belonged. Luckily for us, the Lord doesn’t often strike us dead when we play the hypocrite. That’s enough for us to ponder today my people. And please, please, let’s all be wise and consider our individual feelings and behaviour towards money nuh, because both our earthly lives and salvation depend on us having the right attitude towards it. Much LOVE! …money…money…money…REMEMBER…it’s NOT #1

2 Peter 3:9. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is long-suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Oh Friends, it’s Monday…! And all true believers in Jesus lustily declared, ‘Thank You Lord!’ Okay, so by the world’s standards I’m missing a few screws by being glad to see Mondays roll around. But Friends, in Jesus’ domain, we are called to welcome every day, to see each one as a blessing, especially Mondays, because it gives us more opportunities to get out into the wicked, godless world and help bring the heathen hordes to repentance. Remember that’s our main purpose here on earth, re the Great Commission. (Matt.28:19-20) So to whine and complain and feel hard done by just because we have to go out and labour on Mondays, is plain un-Jesus-like. Now let’s see if we can’t become more Jesus-like by singing our Monday Morning Battle Hymn with lots of vim and vigour. As one earthly based, but heavenly sounding choir now: ‘Oh Lord God Almighty, Creator of the universe and all therein! We, your humble servants, praise your Holy Name and thank you that this Monday morning we have jobs to go to; jobs we don’t like, jobs that are unfair, difficult and even dangerous, but which serve a useful purpose here on earth; keeping lives and families together. We also thank you Father for the renewed vitality and enthusiasm you’ve wrought in our weary souls over the last two days. It’s that rejuvenation of Spirit which allows us now to sally forth with confidence into the evil, ungodly world that surrounds us, to begin a new week of work, constantly buffeted and bombarded by the enemy’s wicked taunts, wiles and lies. But heavenly Father, we’re not afraid, for we know we’re invincible, sure conquerors, once we’re wearing your powerful, protective spiritual armour. We surrender our all to you, and humbly ask that you let your incredible aura of LOVE, the Holy Spirit, lead and guide all your servants as we go out to meet the enemy in battle. Fill us with steadfast faith, so that we can make worthwhile inroads into the enemy’s ranks, and thereby further your glorious kingdom. We pray this in the Holy Name of your Son, and our Saviour, Jesus Christ. AMEN!’ That was beautiful my people! Lots of clapping and calls for an encore in heaven. (smile) And now that the adrenalin’s running, let’s get out there and make a difference for Jesus! But why the rush you ask, since our Bit clearly states that: ‘The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is long-suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.’ Ah Friends, please understand that at some stage even the Lord’s patience will run out and He will set the mighty conflagration He’s promised in motion. And the problem is that none of us know when that will be, it could be today, tomorrow, or even another two thousand years from now. When yuh see, even Jesus didn’t know, you must understand how close to His chest the Father’s playing that card. ‘But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels in heaven, but my Father only.’ (Matt.24:36) And Peter solemnly warns in the verse after our Bit: ‘But the day of the Lord will come as a thief (robber) in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that were therein shall be burned up.’ (2 Pet.3:10) Oh my people, I’m sure that none of us want to be involved in that fervent heat nuh! That means we have to be in a state of constant readiness; working righteousness in true faith, filled with hungry hope and great expectations, fully relying on the awesome promises of God. As Peter continues: ‘Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation (conduct) and godliness, Looking for and hasting (hastening) unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. Wherefore beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot and blameless.’ (2 Pet.3:11-14) Now isn’t that something to look forward to Friends? Most definitely! And we’ll end with some clarification from the scholars, re that scripture. ‘The day of the Lord here refers to the return of Christ in judgement, not the Rapture, since this day results in final apocalyptic judgement. The heavens that shall pass away with a great noise are the atmospheric heavens. The elements shall melt with fervent heat certainly could refer to a nuclear holocaust. Thus Peter urges his readers to look beyond this present world to the new heavens and a new earth characterized by righteousness.’ Oh Friends, the only way to avoid that fervent heat is by getting in with Jesus as soon as possible, meaning RIGHT NOW, because we don’t know when we’ll give up the mantle of this earthly life, and once we do that, there’s no going back and changing our minds. So please, let’s all sit down today and seriously contemplate our personal situations, vis a vie Jesus and our eternal salvation. It’s the MOST IMPORTANT matter on earth for us to consider. Much LOVE!…to be with Jesus till eternity…or not to be with Jesus…that is the question…
