Today’s Scrip-Bit 24 January 2019 Psalm 25:4-5.

Psalm 25:4-5.   Show me thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths. Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all day.

And would you believe, that after all the snowing activity over the past few days that it rained yesterday through most of the afternoon and into the night? Steups! What crazy weather. And then I guess it froze up again last night, making the early morning commute extremely dangerous. Hope by the time I have to go out around lunch time that it will have settled down, because I’m in no mood to battle the elements today. (smile)

But to combat all that the enemy wants to throw at us, here is this interesting li’l prayer from Sister Joyce’s (Joyce Meyer) old Devotional ‘Starting Your Day Right.’ Please pray with me: ‘Lord, I am so excited about this day! Oh God, I can hardly wait to see what You are going to do. I believe You are going to keep me, help me, bless me, and give me favour. I LOVE You, Father. I am waiting on You Lord, and I am listening to You.’

Yes friends, we need to be excited about every day that we open our eyes and draw breath in God’s great universe! What’s the purpose in having such a great, wonderful, merciful, bountiful and forgiving God if we’re not excited by the plans He has for our lives each and every day eh?

Remember He promised that He has a good plan for us, not one to cause us calamity, but to give us a good future and plenty hope. (Jer.29:11) And if that’s true, then there should be some expectant excitement in our lives and attitudes to see what’s going to happen.

So my people, let’s come to our wonderful God each and every day and ask for His guidance, His direction, His discernment and anything else that we need to get us safely and successfully through the day nuh. As Bruh David pleads in this scripture passage that’s our Bit for today: ‘Show me thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths. Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all day.’

Oh friends, there’s no better way to live this life than in constant communication with our heavenly Father, letting Him lead and guide us through His Holy Spirit to do His Will down here on earth! That way we get into fewer problems, and make fewer mistakes, though we’ll still suffer some ‘sufferation’ because that’s just the way life is.

And the Lord has also promised to either make a way for us to escape those rough times, or He will walk through the flood and the fire with us and bring us out safely, in better shape, on the other side! So there’s no real need to fear the vicissitudes of this life. (smile)

Now let’s look at some other scriptures that endorse Bruh David’s plea. Listen to Moses after the Lord volunteered him to lead the Israelites out of bondage in Egypt. ‘Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, show me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people.’ (Ex.33:13) Yes friends, it is wise to come before the Lord and ask for His blessings and guidance before we embark on any project or journey, especially if we’re undertaking it in His name.

And I like how the Lord answered Moses: ‘And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.’ (Ex.33:14) But Moses persisted: ‘And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence… And the Lord said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found favour in my sight, and I know thee by name.’ (Ex.33:15, 17)

And if you read the rest of that chapter vs.18-21, you’ll see that Moses kept on asking for more signs and acknowledgement, and the Lord graciously granted them because He knew that Moses was about to carry a very heavy load and He didn’t want him to have any doubts about His being with him. Likewise friends, our God will always make clear our paths if we sincerely ask Him to.

And then we have this scripture from Psalm 119: ‘I have declared my ways, and thou heardest (answered) me: teach me thy statutes. Make me to understand the way of thy precepts: so shall I talk of (meditate on) thy wondrous works.’ (Ps.119:26-27)  Ah mih people, we can’t truly walk with God unless and until we know and understand His Ways and his Will. It’s just like everything else in life; to get good at it, we have to put in some brain work!

A plea for learning was one of Bruh David’s mainstays in walking with God. Hear these last two scriptures: ‘When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up (take care of me). Teach me thy way, O Lord, and lead me in a plain (smooth) path, because of mine enemies.’ (Ps.27:10-11) And this one, we all know: ‘Cause me to hear thy LOVING-kindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.’ (Ps.143:8)

Yes my fellow believers, there’s nothing our God likes more than when we come to Him with our hearts sincerely bursting and thirsty for knowledge of Him and His Word. It’s wisdom of untold proportions! And since it’s Thursday, let’s confidently and believingly belt out the many blessings that our magnanimous God has so gracefully blessed us with.

As one now: ‘I declare that I am blessed with God’s supernatural wisdom and receive clear direction for my life! I declare today that I am blessed with creativity, courage, talent and abundance! I am blessed with a strong will, self-control and self-discipline! I am blessed with a great family, good friends, good health, faith, favour and fulfillment!

I am blessed with success, supernatural strength, promotion and divine protection! I am blessed with a compassionate heart and a positive outlook on life! I declare that any curse or negative word that’s ever been spoken over me is broken right now in the name of Jesus! I declare that everything I put my hands to will prosper and succeed! I declare it today and everyday! Amen!’

And please remember that we now have to go out and share those wonderful blessings with others, for that’s a big part of the reason they were granted to us in the first place. Much LOVE!

…to truly know God and His Word…you obviously have to spend time with Him and His Word…

Today’s Scrip-Bit 28 December 2017 Psalm 119:27.

Psalm 119:27.    Make me to understand the way of thy precepts: so shall I talk of (meditate on) thy wondrous works.

Oh friends, don’t worry, this week is almost over; it’s already Thursday, and by tomorrow we’ll be getting ready to participate in another big celebration, New Year’s Eve.

What a way we celebrate in big fashion at this time of year eh! Let’s just hope that we understand and abide by all the right reasons for those celebrations, mainly the birth of Jesus, and don’t go overboard and allow Lucifer to get a strangle hold in our souls.

Now as the New Year looms large, I guess a lot of the talk turns to New Year resolutions. But as I’ve been saying for the last couple of years, there is ONLY ONE New Year resolution we need to make, and that is walking closer with Jesus, talking to Him more and becoming more Christ-like.

And why is that you ask? Because candidly walking with Jesus will allow you to do all the other day to day things you need to do, like loose weight, go to the gym, spend more time with God, volunteer your services more, be a better overall person. Christ will guide you into the things you need to change and do.

That’s why I say we only need ONE New Years resolution. The greater presence of Christ in our lives will keep us well rounded and on top of all that we need to be on top of. That’s the beauty of seriously walking with Christ; everything falls into place on it’s own.

And that’s why we chose today’s Bit from Psalm 119. ‘Make me to understand the way of thy precepts: so shall I talk of (meditate on) thy wondrous works.’ Yes my fellow believers, it is ever necessary to ask God to give us understanding in matters that pertain to Him, for a lot of it will be too high for our finite minds.

How did Isaiah put it on the Lord’s behalf? ‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.’ (Is.55:8-9)

So it’s obvious then, if we want to learn some stuff about God, we will have to seek Him and ask for His mercy and understanding. Isaiah also said: ‘Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call upon him while he is near.’ (Is.55:6) And friends, there is no better advice in the Good Book than that. Just like we go to school to learn stuff, we have to go to God to learn about Him.

And earlier on in Psalm 119, the psalmist cries out to God: ‘Deal bountifully with thy servant, that I may live and keep thy word. Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law. I am a stranger in the earth: hide not thy commandments from me.’ (Ps.119:17-19)

That means we have to walk steadfastly with God and seek sincere understanding of His commandments, His statutes and His precepts. And not only that, but we have to meditate on them, ponder them in our hearts and souls, then tell them to all the world, so that they too can understand and come to LOVE God, the way we do.

As Bruh David boldly declares in Psalm 145 – The Lord is gracious. ‘I will extol (praise) thee, my God, O king; and I will bless thy name for ever and ever. Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever. Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable (beyond our understanding).

One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts. I will speak of (meditate on) the glorious honour (splendour) of thy majesty, and of thy wondrous works. And men shall speak of the might of thy terrible (awesome) acts: and I will declare thy greatness. They shall abundantly (eagerly) utter the memory of thy great goodness, and shall sing of thy righteousness.’ (Ps.145:1-7)

Oh my believing brethren, are we eagerly uttering the memory of God’s goodness and greatness? Are we singing of His righteousness so that the next generation will know how great a God He is? Not as much as we should. And if we don’t, the Word stands a great chance of being lost during these evil times.

How do you think we know about the Word? Other generations passed it down to us, and we need to do the same, but we can’t pass down what we don’t know and or understand. That’s why knowing and understanding God’s word is of such critical importance.

Friends, I implore us, let’s make 2018 a banner year for Christ nuh. Let’s raise up His LOVE Revolution like it’s never been raised up before, so that many others will come to know and LOVE Him, like we do. Now let’s go home declaring our Thursday Blessings, the tidal wave of grace and mercy that the Lord has showered down on us.

All together now: ‘I declare that I am blessed with God’s supernatural wisdom and receive clear direction for my life!

Amen!’

Wow! What a treasure trove of blessings my people! They just boggle my imagination! Now let’s go out and share them with others as Jesus desires of us nuh. Much LOVE!

…whatever Jesus gives us…He expects us to share it…

Today’s Scrip-Bit 16 February 2014 Luke 19:10

Luke 19:10.    For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

Well a good Sunday morning to all you Friends and fellow believers out there in Christendom! It is the Lord’s Day, so please let’s treat it as such; with reverence and awe, with praise and thanksgiving, with worship and fellowship.

Let’s get out and fellowship with those of like persuasion… and even with those of a different persuasion, for once Jesus is the focus of our attention, we simply cannot go wrong. Remember He specifically said that wherever two or three are gathered in His Name, that He would certainly grace us with His wonderful presence. (Matt.18:20)

And if by chance, or design, you can’t get out to fellowship with other believers and hear the Word, then turn on your television set and tune in to one of the many Christian programmes where  the Word is boldly preached and listen to it attentively. Because to know the Word, you must hear it, and how can you hear it without a preacher? (Rom.10:14-15) For as Bruh Paul proudly proclaims: ‘So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.’ (Rom.10:17)

And just supposing you don’t have a T.V… Well then get out your Bible and read it aloud to yourself, for there’s plenty of power in the spoken Word. Note that God SPOKE the world and all therein into existence. It wasn’t any abracadabra, simi-dimi stuff. The important thing though my brethren, is that the Word of God comes into contact with your very soul, on this, His day.

That brings us to our Bit: ‘For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.’

And all God’s children gave out a loud and joyous shout of “Glory Hallelujah! All praise to the Lord for His goodness to us undeserving sinners.’ And well we should all be grateful and offer the sacrifice of praise my brethren, for without Jesus coming to search for and save us, we’d still be lost.

And I like how the scholars explain it. ’19:10. The words, seek, save, and lost all appear elsewhere in Scripture in a shepherd context. This verse may be taken as a kernel statement of the central theme of Luke. Jesus is the compassionate, searching Herdsman who seeks to save those who can by no means save themselves.’

We surely can’t my brethren! Now today I want to share some scriptures where Jesus states His avowed purpose in coming to earth. And He does it several times, in several different ways.

Let’s begin with when He talks about lost sheep. ‘For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.’ (Matt.18:11) Then He goes on to explain about a shepherd having an hundred sheep, but one gets lost and he leaves the ninety-nine and goes searching long and hard for the ONE LOST SHEEP, and rejoices greatly when he finds it.  (Matt.18:12-13) ‘Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.’ (Matt.18:14)

Oh Friends, yuh see the great importance the Lord attaches to even ONE LOST SINNER! Consequently, if there had only been one single sinner in the entire world, the Father would still have sent Jesus to save him.

Now let’s turn to a time after Jesus had eaten with a publican (tax collector) called Levi. (Luke 5:27-29) The scribes and Pharisees are questioning Jesus as to: ‘Why do ye eat and drink with publicans (tax collectors) and sinners? (Luke 5:30) That’s because the Pharisees thought it was beneath them, defiling to have business dealings with tax collectors like Levi, much less to eat with them.

‘And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole (healthy) need not a physician; but they that are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.’ (Luke 5:31-32)

As the scholars explain: ‘5:32. Jesus is of course not dealing with the question of whether there are in fact righteous people who need no repentance. By ‘righteous’ He refers to the Pharisees, who thought they were righteous, and thus felt they had no need to repent. They were truly self-righteous.’

In any case, if you came to save sinners, then you obviously need to hang out with them, otherwise how would you teach and testify and bring them to repentance eh?

And we’ll close with this instance where Jesus is headed for Jerusalem, but while passing through Samaria is rejected by the people there. At this perceived slight, James and John want to call down fire and brimstone on the heads of the Samaritans. (Luke 9:51-54)

‘But he (Jesus) turned and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. For the Son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.’ (Luke 9:55-56)

Ah mih breddren, that’s enough stuff for us to ponder today, to meditate on and write indelibly in our hearts. Please, let’s allow the Word of God to dwell richly in our souls, for ‘it is the power of God unto salvation.’ (Rom.1:16)

And here’s a parting blessing I got from my church in Tobago.  ‘Go now in Peace – Never be Afraid. God will go with you each hour of every day. Go now in faith steadfast and strong and true. Know He will guide you in all you do. Go now in LOVE, and show you believe. Reach out to others, so all the world can see. God will be there watching from above. Go now in Peace, in Faith and in LOVE.’ Much LOVE, my fellow believers!

…once you know Jesus…you can’t help but LOVE and glorify and exalt Him…
