2 Timothy 4:7. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course (race), I have kept the faith:

And then it was Saturday; that beautiful, lazy, sleep in day! Although I don’t think a lot of people will be sleeping into day because some of the restrictions on the lockdown have apparently been lifted. Don’t ask me what they are, because I have stopped paying attention since they are always so confusing. (smile)

But if yesterday was any reflection of that, with the crowded streets and plentiful traffic, more than we’ve seen for over a year, then today will indeed be crazy. Let’s hope though that people will still pay attention to some of the realities of the situation, because this thing is not over, far from it, and like we’ve had before, a relapse is still possible, especially with all the new variants out there. End of sermon!

Let’s turn to our Saturday business now; that of checking out the quotes that our friend Anselm sent us, as he aspires to inspire us for a better tomorrow. And the first one says: ‘It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation.’ Now that’s all well and good in theory, but in actual practice, it’s not so easy to do. Just look at how the nation of Japan rose to greatness by first cheaply copying the designs of other countries, and now China is doing the very same thing. So what does it say about originality eh? (smile)

And remember that famous saying: ‘Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.’ Meaning that it’s a compliment to do or think like someone else. The problem is that though we should all try to be original, not all of us can, or will be. Some of us will just have to settle for making the original things better. (smile)

And the next quote says: ‘There are two types of people who will tell you that you cannot make a difference in this world: those who are afraid to try and those who are afraid you will succeed.’ Now that’s no lie, for some people are just scared to take a risk, to step out on a limb, just want to always play it safe, but you can never succeed by playing it safe. And the other type is the jealous ones. Those who don’t want to see you get ahead of them, who desire you to be just as unsuccessful as they are. But it’s up to you to decide what you truly desire and don’t listen to the naysayers, regardless of the reason they have for saying nay.

But that means you must also pay close attention to the following quote: ‘Success is walking from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.’ Now that certainly has a ring of truth to it. For the only way to succeed is to move on from your failures, and though it’s difficult to always have enthusiasm after a failure, it’s important that you do have it, since that’s the only way you will ever get fully into your next attempt at success. And the next quote segues very nicely into that one: ‘Successful people do what unsuccessful people are not willing to do. Don’t wish it were easier; wish you were better.’

That first part is gospel truth: to be successful you have to do certain things that most people will not do; like getting up and trying again, and working long, tough hours, although you are not seeing any daylight on the project. Not to mention doing all sorts of menial and supposedly low-life jobs, just to forward the project. And yes, most of wish our tasks were easier, that’s the normal human attitude. But then, as they say, nothing good, or worth accomplishing is ever easy. And that’s generally true, no wonder our society today is so listless and lazy, with so many of us just satisfied to sit on our laurels and enjoy the easy life.

But when a society gets lazy and listless and stops being creative and productive that’s when it begins to die, for a worthwhile life is only achieved through continual improvement and productivity. Consequently, this upcoming quote describes what a person or a society has to be about to not only survive but to prosper. ‘It’s not about standing still and becoming safe. If anybody wants to keep creating, they have to be about change.’

Yes, friends, we have to be in a continually creative frame of mind and accept that some change is necessary to move on up. But please, let’s not do like so many of us in our society are doing today, just embracing change for the sake of change, for not all change is productive, necessary or improves one’s life. And the advent of social media with its countless tentacles spread all over the world is just such one bad influence, for it gives the evil and wicked an even greater chance to spread their evil influence.

True, it also gives the good and righteous a chance to spread their beliefs, but it so happens that because of our natural sinful nature and the broad way of the evil stuff, it is spreading more than the good stuff, which seeks the narrow path. And if we, the good and righteous want to have more influence in this world, we have to start doing much better than we currently are, and using the many tools available to us much more intently and purposefully.

Remember some of Christ’s last words to His disciples: ‘All power (authority) is given unto me in heaven and earth. Go ye therefore, and teach (make disciples of) all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.’ (Matt. 28:18-20) Now, as followers of Jesus, His disciples and earthly representatives, that’s our life-long mission! We refer to it as the Great Commission, and it is indeed a great commission, as it comes directly from our Lord and Saviour, and it is a big, though very worthwhile task.

And this explanation from the scholars is excellent. ‘The closing promise, though given to the apostles, is transmitted by every generation of believers (cf. John 17:20). Christ’s promise of His presence, I am with you always, guarantees the success of the church’s mission because it is really His mission carried out by His called-out disciples. The phrase unto the end of the world means until the end of the “age.”

Therefore Christ’s empowerment of the church to evangelize the world is available in every age, even unto the end of the church age. In comparing the Great Commission with Jesus’ promise to continually build His church (Ch. 18), we must conclude that He intended His church always to be spiritually militant and evangelistically aggressive as we take His claims of Lordship to the entire world of our generation.’

Now my fellow believers, the important question is, are we being spiritually militant and evangelistically aggressive in our earthly walk? Now, if we are truthful, we will admit that we are definitely not as engrossed and purposeful in Christ’s work as we ought to be. So what’s the answer? It’s simple! To retake the world, we must become more spiritually militant and evangelistically aggressive, and at least match the efforts of the evil doers, until we eventually overpower them!

That’s it in a nutshell my fellow saints. And it’s now up to us to rise up, with a strong sense of purpose and do our job, so that at the end, like Bruh Paul, we can truthfully say: ‘I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course (race), I have kept the faith:’ (2 Tim. 4:7) Yes friends, unless we can all truthfully say that at the end of our earthly days, then our lives would have been worthless in the cause of Christ! Much LOVE!

…it’s time for believers to rise up…to be bold and aggressive…in spreading the good news of Christ…

Matthew 28:19. ‘Go ye therefore, and teach (make disciples of) all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

It’s a bright but cool Saturday morning with a strong breeze blowing through my area, however the weather people have issued a heat warning for today and the next few ahead. Temps are supposed to get up into the thirties. Bubba! Like the heatwave has begun…and so has the lively human activity on the streets, despite the lockdown is still mostly in place.

People are walking without much on, cars and motorbikes are constantly revving up with their loud mufflers, unnecessarily disturbing the peace of the neighbourhood. At one stage in the early morning hours, I could swear that I heard car noises that indicated road racing not too far away from my house. But I guess that is all a part of the summertime activity. (smile)

Anyway, let’s get down to our Saturday business, that of checking out the quotes our friend Anselm sent us this past week, as he aspires to inspire us for a better tomorrow. And the first one says: ‘I cannot say whether things will get better if we change; what I can say is they must change if they are to get better.’ And that is the gospel truth my people, because things are so terrible now that if they don’t change, and change for the better, then God help us all yes!

I don’t know if our world has ever been in such a controversial and strife filled state, even with all the supposed enlightened advancements we’ve made in our day. And unless it improves soon, implosion will be the obvious result, since we already have explosion with all the active volcanoes around. (smile) That brings us to this next quote: ‘Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.’

Ah mih people, so many of us have big dreams, desires and plans to change the world, but it’s not an easy task, and though our motivation is admirable, sometimes we just have to wise up and realize that the more important cause is to change our life. And ofttimes the sequence is changing ourselves before we try changing the world, because so many of us need changes in our lives before we can think about changing anyone else.

And that’s where the following quote becomes important. ‘Change your life today. Don’t gamble on the future, act now, without delay.’ Now that is wisdom in spades my brethren! And the most important change we can ever need or have in our lives is receiving Christ Jesus as our Lord and Saviour! And if you haven’t done that yet, then you better had hurry up and do it today, right now, because Christ can come back any time, even today, and if you don’t have Him as the light of your life then you are going to end up in eternal damnation with Satan and all his wicked minions!

Now is that the life you want to live after your physical bodies dies? I don’t think so. That means you must make the biggest decision of your earthly life right now, because it will affect where you spend eternity. Remember Jesus’ wise words: ‘No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and LOVE the other; or else he will hold (be loyal) to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.’ (Matt. 6:24)

That’s the awesome truth friends: you cannot serve Almighty God and at the same time immerse yourself in accumulating the riches of the world. As the old people would say; is either one or the other. The beautiful fact is that you can get earthly wealth from God, if He so desires to bless you, but there’s no way to get God from earthly wealth!

And so we come to this quote: ‘True life is lived when tiny changes occur.’ I don’t think that is completely true, because many of us need big changes in our lives if we are ever to get on the right track. But it is important that we make small adjustments over time, and that we do acknowledge their benefits in the betterment of our everyday circumstances. And I believe that’s one area in which a lot of believers are weak. We all look for the big miracles in our lives, which are usually few and far between, but we never pay attention to the many small miracles that the Lord performs in our lives each day that we are alive.

Now that possibly derives from the fact that many of us don’t believe that the Lord is interested in the small, mundane things in our lives, and there is nothing further from the truth than that! Our God is actively interested in EVERY aspect of our lives, from the biggest to the smallest. He wants to get thoroughly involved in our business.

And that’s exactly what many of us are afraid of. (smile) Some areas are okay, but not others. But friends, don’t you think that He knows the parts that we are trying to hide from Him? He certainly does, because He is omniscient, He knows everything. So trying to hide stuff from Him is pure foolishness. What He wants is for you to bring everything to Him in sincere prayer, be it good or bad. If you don’t take it to Him, then He can’t help you.

And I believe that this last quote is the way to go. ‘I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.’ Yes friends, changing the world by ourselves is rather difficult, if not impossible, but spreading our diligent efforts across several areas, or even one area, can cause small, but important differences to be made. You’ll notice that’s how Jesus did it. He alone came down from heaven, and being in fashion as a man, He couldn’t go very far to spread His Word. So he got a few men together and taught them what He wanted them to teach others.

Thus some of His last words to them. ‘Go ye therefore, and teach (make disciples of) all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.’ (Matt. 28:19-20) Then they did what he asked; went out and recruited others, and those others did the same, until now, two thousand years later, the Word of God has been spread over most of His universe, just like He desired.

Strangely enough, speaking of it like that makes it resemble a pyramid scheme that’s become so prevalent and heartbreaking today, when used for evil purposes. But we all know that Jesus’ words were not designed for evil or heartbreak, but to give us a sincere hope and an eternal future with Him in heaven.

And you know what, right here, we have two good examples of casting a stone across the waters to create many ripples. Yes, brother Anselm’s sending quotes to us, and then my sending them to others through the Bit, that’s certainly a method of casting a stone across the waters, hoping to create many ripples. And I do hope that we are successful in our small way, making a difference, by bringing hope and faith, as well as the peace and LOVE of Jesus to someone who needs it this Saturday morning! And it’s in Jesus’ name we pray! Much LOVE!

John 8:32. And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

And then the rain stopped on Saturday! Yes friends, yesterday was truly a rainy day in my area, and the earth was glad. But now it needs the rain to stop so that it can soak up all that heavenly blessing and put it to good use. That’s the same way we have to gather our many divine blessings and then to put them to work in Jesus’ name, each and every day that we draw breath in God’s great universe. For that’s what He desires of us, and why He so lavishly blesses us. So let’s remember today that our duty is to share God’s LOVE, His peace, joy and kindness with others, opening their eyes to the wonderful life that is to be found in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ!

Now let’s turn to our Saturday task, that of checking out the quotes our friend Anselm sent us this past week, as he aspires to inspire us for a better tomorrow. And the first one says: ‘We can’t be afraid of change. You may feel very secure in the pond that you are in, but if you never venture out of it, you will never know that there is such a thing as an ocean, a sea.’ And that’s quite true my brethren, if we don’t acquire a li’l get up and go, that comes with faith in Jesus, we will never really enjoy a lot of what our world has to offer.

Oh, I know it’s real nice and comfortable to stay in our little world and not let it be disturbed, but Jesus said we should go far and wide and spread His word. (smile) And change is something that always comes in some form or the other, whether we want it to or not. So the sooner we get comfortable with change the better off we will be. And I can guarantee, that if you seriously intend to work for Jesus, you’d better get accustomed to change, because as He raises you from glory to glory, lots of changes will occur in your life. That’s one unchanging aspect of His ministry. (smile)

And that’s why this next quote is important. ‘Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.’ We see that in almost every revolution that’s ever taken place in our world. It often begins with one man, who gathers a small group around him, and eventually the explosion takes place. And what better example is there than the twelve disciples of Christ, who turned the world upside down with their exhortation and teaching on His behalf, and the example of godly living, that brought so many lost and downtrodden souls to Him.

They set the stage, the standard, that has continued for over two thousand years, and is still going strong today. So never doubt that a small group can cause major changes to be made in our society. That brings us to this next quote: ‘A lie can travel around the world and back again while the truth is lacing up its boots.’ And is that ever true my people, especially in this time of awesome technology and the many systems of social media to be found in our current world. And it just so happens that a lie travels faster than the truth, even in normal situations.

It seems that in our fallen nature we are more taken with lies than with the truth. Just look around at the many lies that are spreading like wildfire about so many things and how slowly the truth is moving. And you couldn’t find a better example than Donald Trump and his immense lie that the last election was stolen from him. Look at number of supposedly sensible people who believe it, and are spreading it, even without any proof to back it up. And the bad thing about lies is that the more often you hear them, the easier they become believable. That’s why the lie-mongers keep spreading their lies.

But lying brings such baggage with it, that it’s never worth it in the end, and that same baggage always cause you to get caught in the lie. I’ve seen that happen more often than I can remember. However, as this next quote says: ‘If you tell the truth you don’t have to remember anything.’ And I can testify to that, because in my youth I was a good liar, but eventually gave up lying when I discovered that you had so much to remember; remember who you told what and when, so you didn’t get caught in the lie.

However, when you tell the truth, your spirit is free and easy, you don’t need to remember who you told what to and when, because you’ve said the same thing to everyone. The truth gives you freedom, even in this sinful and confused world, and when you are a believer in Jesus, you know a higher truth, which also gives a greater freedom. When people were questioning Jesus as to who He was, He kept telling them that He was the Messiah, but most of them refused to believe. The Good Book tells it thus: ‘Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue (abide) in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed. And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.’ (John 8:31-32)

Yes friends, that’s the highest form of truth and freedom we can ever receive in this life; that offered by Jesus. As He says a few verses later on in that same chapter: ‘If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.’ (John 8:36) That’s real freedom my brethren! And that brings us to our last quote, another gem of truth and wisdom. ‘It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.’ Oh, how often have we seen that happen eh, even to us? (smile)

But mankind just likes to quickly open his mouth without thinking, and that’s why we so often get in trouble with our words. And there are numerous scriptures that warn us about the power and evils of the tongue. But Cousin Sol says it best in this context. ‘He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent (calm) spirit. Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace (keeps silent), is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.’ (Prov. 17:27-28)

And that’s why we know that there are so many fools in our society today! Too many of us are opening our mouths to talk when we either have nothing to talk about, or we don’t know what we’re talking about. And we’ll close with some more wise words from Cousin Sol on the topic. ‘Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that LOVE it shall eat the fruit thereof.’ (Prov. 18:21) Yes my people, our tongues are powerful weapons, and can be used for both good and evil, but please remember, you’ll have to pay a heavy price, if you use it for evil. Much LOVE!

…keep thy tongue from evil…and thy lips from speaking guile (deceit)… (Ps. 34:13)

Today’s Scrip-Bit 22 May 2021 Matthew 19:26.

Matthew 19:26. With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

So we into the Saturday of this Victoria Day long weekend, what’s up people? Barbecues, planting, cottage openings, beach parties and other summer stuff is the usual action, but for certain, with this pandemic lockdown, some of that stuff will surely be curtailed. The predicted rainy weather for today might even add to that curtailment. But knowing the human’s penchant for fun and excitement, the weekend will not be a lost cause. And believe it or not, the friendly discussions between the duchess and I over the level of the a/c have already begun! (smile) And today is only the first day… looking forward to many more as the weather gets really hot. Some things never change eh!

But let’s get down to our Saturday business nuh, that of checking out the quotes our friend Anselm sent us this past week, as he aspires to inspire us for a better tomorrow. And the first one says: ‘I have accepted fear as part of life — specifically the fear of change… I have gone ahead despite the pounding in the heart that says: turn back.’ What can we say to that powerful statement eh? First off, it’s good to recognize that fear is a part of our lives, it will always be there, and it will only be conquered by faith!

And furthermore, when we become believers in Christ Jesus, then fear becomes one of our lesser worries, even the fear of change, which many of us tremble to even think of. That’s because faith in Jesus overcomes the fear of everything else in our lives. Look at how many times He said to His disciples, ‘Fear not!’ And He also derided them often with the words ‘O ye of little faith!’ And as He gave them the Great Commission, He made them this powerful promise: ‘For I am with you always…even to the end of the world.’ (Matt. 28:20)

But to get that faith, one must first know about Jesus, believe that what He says is true, then surrender your life to Him. And when you fulfill those requirements, the pounding of fear in your heart, re change, or anything at all, is quietened by the peace, LOVE, faith, strength and trust in Jesus! Wow! What a remarkable life one can live by trusting in Jesus!

And that brings us to this next quote: ‘It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.’ Now, I don’t think that one’s survival as a species is totally dependent on one’s response to change, although it is a part of the story. Please remember that all change is not necessarily for the better, and many a species have become extinct by accepting changes that did not suit or help them.

Species survival, and we talking about mankind here, is more dependent on the species being wise enough to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour of its life! Just look at the current fiasco that’s our world and human life nuh! If more of us had sincerely accepted Jesus as the answer to our problems, instead of trying to get rid of Him, our world, and consequently our lives would never be in such turmoil.

So, we come to the following quote: ‘Always believe that the impossible is always possible.’ Now what are you basing that belief on eh? You can only truly believe that if you are a follower of Jesus! Remember after Jesus told the disciples about it being easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God, and they were amazed, wondering who then could be saved? Jesus then informed them: ‘With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.’ (Matt. 19:26)

That’s reference to God’s omnipotence! And Christ makes the same statement when He prays in the Garden of Gethsemane the night before His crucifixion. ‘And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt (will).’ (Mark 14:36) Christ knew that if the Father wanted to stop His crucifixion He could, but that was the only just and righteous way for mankind to be saved. So, to believe that all things are truly possibly you must have some solid, foundational basis for believing it, and the only true basis for that is trust in Almighty God!

And as we move on, this interesting quote surfaces: ‘Everyone has a choice. You can choose your own path in life.’ Now that’s the awesome truth! But the first problem here is to determine the possible paths available to you. Then to decide which one best suits you! And I beg to offer that there are only two possible paths in this life; that set forth by the world under the auspices of Satan, and that set forth by Jesus Christ! And I further beg to offer that the one set forth by Jesus Christ is the best one!

Now it might not seem so in the short term, but most certainly in the long run, it is the best path to choose. Granted it’s a narrow and difficult path, but in the end, the rewards of salvation and eternal life with Christ in heaven will definitely outweigh the suffering, the darkness and fires of hell and eternal damnation and separation from God that the broad and easy path provides. Yes friends, it’s your choice, but please remember that the fun and frolic that Satan’s deceitful world offers now, doesn’t last forever, and it eventually turns into a sad minefield of broken dreams, shattered hopes and ruined lives. So please choose wisely.

That brings us to our last quote. ‘You should LOVE and take care of yourself because after all, it’s your own life.’ You can’t dispute that, but in reality some of us overindulge ourselves, even to the point of narcissism, as the world dictates. And then some of us go to the other extreme, and for whatever reason(s) treat ourselves terribly. What we need is a reasonable and sensible middle ground. And that can only be found if we listen to and follow Jesus’ directive.

Remember the second part of His answer to the question of the Great Commandment? ‘And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt LOVE thy neighbour as thyself.’ (Matt. 22:39) That means we need to have a healthy respect for ourselves, because it’s only then are we able to LOVE anyone else properly. If we are narcissistic, we won’t be preoccupied with anyone but ourselves, and if we treat ourselves shabbily, most likely that’s the way we will treat others.

Now, I’m sure you can see from all we’ve spoken above, that Jesus is the only true and real answer to all of our problems! And that’s the sermon for today! (smile) Oh friends, please have a blessed and pleasant day, as you walk with Christ in peace, LOVE and joy. Much LOVE!

Philippians 4:7. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep (guard) your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Oh my people, Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and LOVE!’ (2 John 3) What a most magnificent greeting this Saturday morning in these pandemic times! That’s why the Word of the Lord is so important to believers; it lifts us up, encourages us and keeps our faith strong, so that we can keep on keeping on despite the troubles and problems that surround us.

So, knowing that the Lord is with us, all the time, if we only believe, and is constantly showering His grace, mercy, peace and LOVE upon us, let’s go forward today without fear, but with courage, wisdom and compassion, as He leads us on the straight and narrow path, right home to Him. Glory be, mih bredrin!

Now let’s see what quotes our friend Anselm sent us this past week, as he aspires to inspire us for a better tomorrow. And the first one says: ‘Learn to let go and be clear of where you really want to head for.’ Now that’s certainly an interesting thought, for we can’t go anywhere successfully unless we know where we want to go and drop all the other baggage that’s preventing us from following our destiny. And I want to say here that associating with Jesus, committing your life to Him, is the best way to know where your destiny lies and to find it with a true sense of purpose! That’s because He cares and will always be there to help us navigate the storms and the rough roads of this earthly life.

Then we come to this quote: ‘LOVING yourself is the greatest revolution!’ Well, I don’t know if it’s really the greatest revolution, but I do know that it’s a very important one in all of our lives, for until we learn to LOVE God and LOVE ourselves, we’re not fit for anything. And the best way I know to express those sentiments is by quoting these marvellous and wise words of Jesus, as to the great commandment. ‘Thou shalt LOVE the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt LOVE thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.’ (Matt. 22:37-40)

Yes friends, that’s where it all begins and ends – with LOVE! And that’s why this next quote is also important for our well-being: ‘To LOVE yourself is to understand you don’t need to be perfect to be good.’ And that’s quite true. The fact is that no human is perfect, for the Lord God made us intentionally as imperfect beings. The only perfect Being in this universe is our Godhead! And since our Creator knows we’re not perfect, He doesn’t expect perfection from us. He just expects our best and most sincere effort.

Unfortunately though, too many of us try to be perfect, when it’s impossible, and then get down on ourselves when we mess up. But friends, our great God sees and knows everything, that’s why we refer to Him as omnipotent, omniscient and omni-present. That means He looks at our hearts, and if they are right, then He will forgive, forget and comfort any and all imperfection. But we need to first understand that being perfect is not His expectation, but He does want us to be diligent and excellent in our efforts.

That brings us to our last quote: ‘Inner peace begins the moment you choose not to allow another person or event to control your emotions.’ Now, on a basic and fundamental level that seems to be true, but it’s definitely not the whole story! Granted, it’s good not to let people and events control our emotions too much, however, it’s a natural consequence of being human. And try as we want, it’s not possible to completely shut out other people or events from our emotional roller coaster. (smile)

And even if, by some fluke, we manage to shut out other things and people, the peace we receive is still not true or lasting, because it’s a peace the world gives, and that can never be worthwhile because it comes from a world that’s plagued by an abundance of sin and evil, and those two things can never bring true or lasting peace. The only place one can find really true and lasting peace in in Christ Jesus! And if you don’t believe me, let’s hear it straight from the horse’s mouth, that’s directly from Jesus, as He so generously bestows what He alone has to offer. ‘Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.’ (John 14:27)

Oh my fellow saints, that’s one of the most important and encouraging scripture verses ever! It’s something for us to hold on to tightly if we want to make it successfully through this confused and evil world. But we can’t get it until we sincerely commit our lives to Jesus. And if that wasn’t sufficient to convince you to seek the peace that only Jesus can give, listen to more of his awesome words, as He talks about overcoming the world. ‘These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.’ (John 16:33) Glory be my people! More good news and encouragement!

And let’s also remember Bruh Paul’s awesome words on the subject to the Philippians: ‘And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep (guard) your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.’ (Phil. 4:7) Just imagine that nuh; a peace that we can’t even imagine or understand. And I just couldn’t leave out these explanations from the biblehub.com website. This from Ellicott’s Commentary for English Readers.

‘(7) The peace of God–i.e. (like the “righteousness of God,” “the life of God”), the peace which God gives to every soul which rests on Him in prayer. It is peace–the sense of unity in the largest sense–the “peace on earth” proclaimed at our Lord’s birth, left as His last legacy to His disciples, and pronounced at His first coming back to them from the grave (Luke 2:14; John 14:27). Hence it includes peace with God, peace with men, peace with self. It keeps–that is, watches over with the watchfulness that “neither slumbers nor sleeps”–both “the hearts and minds” (or, more properly, the souls and the thoughts formed in them), guarding our whole spiritual action, both in its source and its developments.

It is “through Christ Jesus,” for “He is our peace (Ephesians 2:14), as “making all one,” and “reconciling all to God.” The comprehensiveness and beauty of the passage has naturally made it (with the characteristic change from the “shall” of promise to the “may” of benediction) the closing blessing of our most solemn church service of “Holy Communion” with God and man.’

Now that should open up some interesting comments and contemplations! (smile) And I’m also contemplating adding some more…but it’s already kinda long…Oh shoot! Tough yes! Who doesn’t want to get deeper into God’s word, that’s their business! But for those of us who so desire, here is the Pulpit Commentary on the verse.

‘Verse 7. – And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding. The peace which God gives, which flows from the sense of his most gracious presence, and consists in childlike confidence and trustful love. This peace passeth all understanding; its calm blessedness transcends the reach of human thought; it can be known only by the inner experience of the believer. The similar passage, in Ephesians 3:20, “Unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think,” seems decisive for the ordinary interpretation.

Bishop Light-foot, Meyer, and others take another view of the passage: “Surpassing every device or counsel of man. i.e. which is far better, which produces a higher satisfaction, than all punctilious self-assertion, all anxious forethought.” Shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus; rather, as R.V. (English Revised Version), shall guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Peace shall guard – “a verbal paradox, for to guard is a warrior’s duty” (Bishop Lightfoot).

The peace of God abiding in the heart is a sure and trusty garrison, guarding it so that the evil spirit, once cast out, cannot return. The thoughts issue from the heart; for the heart, as commonly in the Hebrew Scriptures, is regarded as the seat of the intellect, not of feeling only. In Christ Jesus; in the sphere of his influence, his presence. True believers, abiding in Christ, realize his promise, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you.”

Yes my fellow saints, it’s long, but interesting, (smile) and we couldn’t have a better ending. Much LOVE!

Romans 5:8. But God commendeth (demonstrated) his own LOVE toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

So what does this second Saturday in May have to offer us eh friends? Many of us will sadly say, just the same old, same old; problems and hardship, sickness and strife. And in a way that’s true, but there is also another side to the equation…remember there are always two sides to every story. And the second side to this story, this equation, is really exciting, because it entails being in league with the most powerful person in the universe, that’s Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, and all those other great titles He bears.

And when you are in league with Him, the world doesn’t bother you like it does when you’re running on your own steam. He sees every mountain, every tear drop, every broken heart, and in response to your prayer, He wipes away those tears, heals the broken hearts and helps you move the mountain. So, for those of us who have Jesus on our side, there’s no need to worry about what the world says about, or does to us, because He is the Creator of it all, and He has us all in the safe and secure palms of His hands.

Now, with that encouragement and assurance riding high in our hearts, let’s see what quotes our friend Anselm sent us this week, as he aspires to inspire us for a better tomorrow. And the first one truthfully proclaims: ‘You’re a work of art. Not everyone will understand you, but the ones who do, will never forget about you.’ Yes friends, we are all unique works of art, created by a Master craftsman. We are all different. No two of us have the same fingerprints or footprints. That alone tells us how great our Maker is.

Hear how Bruh David puts it in Psalm 139. ‘For thou hast possessed my reins (formed my inward parts): thou hast covered me (weaved me) in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well (very well).’ (Ps. 139:13-14) That means you ought to be proud of whom you are, because God is proud of you.

That brings us to this next quote: ‘If you don’t LOVE yourself, nobody will. Not only that, but you also won’t be good at LOVING anyone else. LOVING starts with the self.’ And the first two sentences are absolutely true. The last one poses a slight problem, because as Jesus says: The first commandment is, ‘Thou shalt LOVE the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind… And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt LOVE thy neighbour as thyself.’ (Matt. 22:37, 39) So, technically speaking, the first person we should LOVE is God, then ourselves. And if we don’t LOVE ourselves, we certainly won’t be able to LOVE anyone else, for we can only give away what we have.

Now listen to this next quote. I find it rather interesting. ‘Falling in LOVE with yourself first doesn’t make you vain or selfish. It makes you indestructible.’ Wow! That’s a new one to me. I’ve never heard it put that way before. Of course, if you fall in LOVE with yourself the right way, it won’t make you vain or selfish, only if you get narcissistic about it. But I can’t vouch for the indestructible aspect nuh, because when we genuinely LOVE, the more vulnerable we become, and that surely doesn’t lead to indestructability. I guess though, that when we have a heart full of LOVE, like Jesus, we can better handle the heartaches that come with it.

And so, we come to this next quote: ‘SELF- LOVE. It doesn’t mean that everyone will treat you the way you deserve to be treated. It means that you won’t let them change the way you see yourself; nor will you stick around for them to destroy you.’ Like our friend Anselm was in a SELF-LOVE mode this past week. (smile) But I like that quote, because it means that you are strong in your belief in yourself, obviously with Jesus as your foundation stone, and you realize that the world is neither fair nor genuine, so everyone won’t feel the way you feel about yourself.

It wasn’t easy with Jesus, where even His family and His townsfolks didn’t believe in Him. But He believed in His Father, and thus in Himself, and was therefore able to go about doing His work with confidence and purpose. That’s how we need to be friends; strong and sure in ourselves, through the promises and deeds of Jesus, so that we can confidently go about doing whatever He desires of us.

And our last quote is another interesting one. It says: ‘Demonstrate LOVE by giving it, unconditionally, to yourself. And as you do, you will attract others into your life who will LOVE you without conditions.’ Now that’s a bit of a minefield. How do you demonstrate unconditional LOVE to yourself, without others getting displeased, especially in this godless, selfish and deceitful world? I guess we should first look at the difference between conditional and unconditional LOVE.

One commentator puts it thus: ‘A clear distinction is commonly understood: Conditional LOVE is “earned” on the basis of certain conditions that should be met, while unconditional LOVE is given freely and completely without expecting anything in return. LOVING conditionally means to LOVE if the object deserves the LOVE, whereas LOVING unconditionally means to LOVE despite the object being unworthy of LOVE.’

And technically speaking, the only person that LOVES unconditionally is our great God. He LOVES the sinner as well as the saint, though in His holiness and righteousness, He can’t allow the sinner to get away scot-free with sin. That’s why He sent Jesus to die on our behalf, so that our sins could be blotted out in one fell swoop. However, being the emotional and irrational beings that we are, we hold back, or desire LOVE on certain terms, which doesn’t really agree with what Jesus is trying to do, or what the Father desires of us.

So, to help us in that department, let’s go home today pondering on this magnificent and most pertinent scripture. ‘But God commendeth (demonstrated) his own LOVE toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.’ (Rom. 5:8) Yes friends, imagine that nuh. God didn’t wait for us to change, He did what He had to do unconditionally. Let’s see if we can’t be a li’l more like Him nuh. It would benefit us no end. Much LOVE!

…LOVE should not have to be…deserved or earned…

Psalm 139:14a. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made:

Saturday, Saturday! Thank God that lazy day called Saturday is here! Yes friends, Saturday has arrived…and we’re happy, despite the tighter lockdown restrictions we were handed in our province of Ontario yesterday. Ah Lord eh! When will it all end? The vaccines don’t seem to me making much of a difference, because every day we’re hitting record highs in new cases of the covid virus, be they the regular one or the variants. And no one seems to understand why this is happening. So, the only recourse is to lock down tighter.

But again, that will only work if people responsibly adhere to the rules, which they have not been doing in the past, and why the virus has been proliferating for so long, until it had a chance to rework itself and become even more dangerous. But friends, the one constant in it all is the amazing presence of Christ Jesus in our lives! That has not changed, so as the song says, let’s keep Jesus shining through us, and together with Him, we’ll shine over the whole world, and let His glory fill the land.

And since it’s Saturday, we need to check out the quotes that our friend Anselm sent us this past week, as he aspires to inspire us for a better tomorrow. Now they all seem to be centred around personal image and improvement, so obviously they will have some overlap. And the first one says: ‘Be yourself. An original is so much better than a copy.’ And is that ever the awesome truth! Have you ever noticed when you make a copy of something, it’s never as good as the original?

Well that also applies to our lives. We come off much better when we let our real selves show and not try to be a copy of someone else. And that’s all the Lord is asking of us – to be who He created us to be, not try to be someone else. That’s why He made each of as a unique specimen and not copies or clones. As Bruh David says in Psalm 139: ‘I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right (very) well.’ (Ps. 139:14)

Consequently, this next quote speaks very well to the first. ‘Above all, be true to yourself, and if you cannot put your heart in it, take yourself out of it.’ Truer words were never spoken my people! We must be true to what God made us, and whatever we do, make sure we put our very heart and soul in it, because our heavenly Father always expects the best of us. And if we find that we can’t put our hearts sincerely in something, then we should not get involved in it. As Bruh Paul told the church at Colossae, re Christian virtues and advice for domestic life. ‘And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.’ (Col. 3:17)

And the scholars offer this explanation on that verse. ‘3:17. The beneficial influence produced by the indwelling word of Christ is not only to affect public and private worship (vs. 16), (where he admonishes them to sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with grace in their hearts to the Lord), but it is also to control all areas of a Christian’s life.’

And later on, Bruh Paul advises the slaves and servants thus: ‘And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.’ (Col. 3:23-24) Yes friends, even slaves and servants were to perform their menial tasks wholeheartedly, doing their best, because they were not doing it so much for their earthly master but for the heavenly One, who promised them the reward of salvation in their Christian faith.

That brings us to this quote: ‘If you’re searching for that one person that will change your life, take a look in the mirror.’ Now that’s something we should do everyday friends. Take a good look in the mirror and try to discern who or whom we really are! Everything in our lives begins and ends with us. We can’t expect others to improve our lives if we don’t first put in the effort and energy to do it. As the old saying goes; no one can make you happy but yourself.

Just look at all the toys and conveniences we have in today’s modern world, but so many of us are still bored and miserable. That’s partly because we are expecting, looking for other things and people to make and/or keep us happy. But if we can’t first find happiness within ourselves, then we’ll never find it anywhere else.

And the next quote fits nicely into the framework. ‘You can’t pour from an empty cup. Take care of yourself first.’ That should be obvious my brethren. We can’t give away something we don’t have, be it money, time, talent or LOVE! That means we first have look after ourselves, to grow in us, or our lives, whatever it is we want to share with others. So if it’s money; then we have to work to get some. With time, we must arrange our schedule so that we have some to spare. And for talent, we have to learn, or improve ourselves in whatever area we desire to help others.

But you know the amazing thing about wanting to share LOVE: you need to do all of the above, especially spending time with the Master of LOVE, Jesus, and learning from Him and His word! Oh glory be mih people! As Jesus says, the two most important things in this world are to LOVE God with everything you have, and to LOVE your neighbour as yourself. (Matt. 22:37-40) And as we were just saying, if you don’t have LOVE for yourself, how can you give it to anybody else? But Jesus can teach us!

And the last quote tells us: ‘Be proud of who you are, and not ashamed of how someone else sees you.’ Now that’s the gospel truth friends! Far too many of us are ashamed of ourselves for stupid, worldly reasons! God might be disappointed in us, but He’s never ashamed of us. So why do we allow mortal men like ourselves, to make us feel ashamed eh? Granted, some of us may be down on our luck, for whatever reason, but that’s no reason to be ashamed. Remember what Bruh David said; we’re ALL fearfully and wonderfully made, unique creatures of God’s sophisticated engineering, so there’s no need to be ashamed.

We can always turn to God for His faithful help. Just look at Bruh Paul’s life, how he turned from destroying believers to lifting them up, with Christ’s help obviously, to the point where he could boast. ‘I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.’ (Rom. 1:16)

And what better scripture to close with than this one from Christ Himself. ‘For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father’s, and of the holy angels.’ (Luke 9:26). Yes friends, Jesus, as always, puts it in plain language. If we refuse to stand up for Him now, then, when He comes in all His glory, He won’t bother with us either. That just seems fair, doesn’t it?Much LOVE!

…human beings are God’s greatest creation…let’s truly reflect it in our earthly lives nuh…

Proverbs 23:7a. ‘For as he thinketh in his heart (mind), so is he.

Well, it’s another bright and sunshiny day in the life friends! Please thank our heavenly Father for that! But because it’s also Saturday, we’re going to add a touch of lateness and laziness to it! (smile) That makes it a bright, sunshiny, late and lazy Saturday! Praise the Lord!

So though we’re lazing through the day, that doesn’t mean we are allowed to forget our great and wonderful God. On the contrary, today is one where we should gravitate towards Him and His Word since we couldn’t spend as much time as we wanted with him during the busy workweek. And now that we have some more time on our hands today, it’s only appropriate, and right, that we spend more unhurried time with Him; talking, praying, reading and meditating on His wise and awesome Word, so that we can get our souls and spirits renewed.

And a note of caution here, please don’t think that we’re doing this for God nuh, but for ourselves, so that we can truly enjoy the many benefits He offers. And as we are doing that today, let’s remember to send up prayers for the safety and protection of our unfortunate friends and families on the Caribbean island of St. Vincent where the volcano La Soufriere (sulphur outlet) erupted yesterday after being dormant since 1979. People are being evacuated from the island, but like it’s doing everything else, the Corona virus is making it difficult to do efficiently and quickly.

Let’s pray that the Lord will give my old university classmate, Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves and his associates wisdom and guidance to handle this most serious situation, as it will not affect only St. Vincent, but also the neighbouring islands, with the resultant ash clogging up the atmosphere, causing breathing problems and restricting air traffic.

Now, as we do every Saturday, let’s turn to the quotes that our friend Anselm sent us this past week, as he aspires to inspire us to a better tomorrow. And the first quote tells us to ‘Learn to let go and be clear of where you really want to head for.’ And I have no dispute with that because it makes very good sense. We must learn to let go of, to drop all the baggage from our past that is keeping us back from our destiny. However, when we get rid of the baggage, we must also know, as clearly as possible, where we want or intend to go; what’s our eventual destination.

And why is that important? Because, if you don’t know where you’re going, you will get lost, get distracted, and go in a direction that’s leading you away from your God-given destiny, which can also be very detrimental to your health, physically, spiritually and emotionally. That’s why you need to know where you want to go before you set out on your life’s journey. And it does help to discover your destination, if you also know where you are coming from. As they say, you can’t truly know your future until you know and understand your past.

That brings us to this next quote: ‘Owning our story and LOVING ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we’ll ever do.’ And that’s no lie friends! Taking responsibility for our lives and LOVING ourselves in the process, takes immense courage, especially in this hate and strife-filled world, where everybody tries to blame somebody else for their problems and consequent lack of happiness. Now, it’s true that circumstances can come against us, over which we have no say or hold, but we’re still always responsible for our attitude towards them.

But as faithful believers in Christ Jesus, that means we must come up over those circumstances with a good attitude, although that may be extremely difficult to do. Right now, the bane of our human existence is the sad lack of responsibility in our society! Nobody wants to accept it, but we all want to prosper and succeed…how? Riding on the backs of others. But God’s economy doesn’t work like that my brethren, for we only reap what we sow. And if we sow no seed, or only negative ones, we will get no harvest, or a negative one. Please, please, let’s remember that nuh, and begin taking responsibility for our actions.

And this next quote segues very nicely into our conversation. ‘Self-LOVE is not selfish; you cannot truly LOVE another until you know how to LOVE yourself.’ And that’s gospel truth. Remember Jesus’ words on the two greatest commandments. ‘And the second is like unto the first, thou shalt LOVE thy neighbour as thyself.’ (Matt. 22:39)

Now, to keep that commandment, we obviously need to have a strong LOVE for ourselves, because as our quote says, we can’t LOVE anyone if we don’t know how to LOVE ourselves. But in that process, it’s of the utmost importance that LOVE for ourselves doesn’t turn into a selfish, arrogant, vain, inordinate fascination, unkind, ungodly, narcissistic attitude. That comes from the story of Narcissus in Greek Mythology, where he sees himself reflected in a pool of water and falls in LOVE with himself. But when he realizes that that LOVE can never be reciprocated, he tragically goes off and commits suicide.

Not a nice story at all, but unfortunately many of us still fall to those low levels and make life difficult for ourselves and those around us. This last quote though, will open our eyes, if we’re serious about getting to our God-given destiny. It says: ‘You need to learn how to select your thoughts just the same way you select your clothes every day. This is a power you can cultivate. If you want to control things in your life so bad, work on the mind. That’s the only thing you should be trying to control.’

That’s the truth right there in spades my brethren! The first thing we ought to learn to control is our mind, because that’s where all the battles in our life both begin and end. In Proverbs 23, Cousin Sol talks about not eating with a man that has an evil eye (is a miser), for though he tells you to enjoy the delicacies, he’s not sincere. ‘For as he thinketh in his heart (mind), so is he.’ (Prov. 23:7)

And that’s more truth friends, for you can’t think evil and do good on a regular basis. What’s really inside of you will eventually come out. As Jesus said about the things that defile. ‘Not that which goes into the mouth that defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man…For out of the heart (mind) proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.’ (Matt. 15:11,19-20)

Yes my fellow saints, we can’t deny it, evil begins in our minds. Mahatma Gandhi, the Indian philosopher, politician and peace maker, said it thus: ‘A man is but the product of his thoughts. What he thinks, he becomes.’ Oh my people, thoughts are extremely important in shaping our personality and attitude. They can be good or bad, constructive or destructive, and eventually make us who we are. And we need to make our minds positive and productive if we intend to sincerely live for Jesus.

And how do we do that? Let Bruh Paul tell us as he told the church at Corinth. ‘Casting down imaginations (arguments), and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.’ (2 Cor. 10:5)

Now that basically means taking control over your thoughts; over what you think about yourself and life. It’s not easy to do with all the evil stuff that’s coming against us, but God has provided us with a way to do it, through His word and will, through His Holy Spirit that indwells us. So let’s remember that our mind is a battlefield between good and evil nuh. And Christ wants us to ‘Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.’ (Rom. 12:21) And there’s no better time to start practicing that than today; right now! Much LOVE!

Habakkuk 2:3b. though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

And then it was Holy Saturday; that suspenseful day of waiting between Good Friday and Easter Sunday, the day after the tragedy, but the day before the great awakening of joy and celebration! And yes, it’s always difficult for us human beings to wait for something, even though we know it will be better than what we currently have, especially in these times of immediate gratification.

But please wait patiently on the promise my people. For as the Good Book says: ‘For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.’ (Hab. 2:3) Yes friends, Easter Sunday will surely come, so let’s just mourn quietly, but expectantly today, show our tremendous faith, for we are assured of the triumphant rising of the Holy One of Israel tomorrow!

Now let’s see what interesting quotes our friend Anselm sent us this past week as he aspires to inspire us for a brighter tomorrow. Here’s the first one: ‘We can’t retract the decisions we’ve made. We can only affect the decisions we’re going to make from here.’ I don’t know if that is totally true nuh, because sometimes we can take back the decisions we’ve made, especially if they have not been yet implemented. But in the logical process of the situation, I guess you can look at the retracting as a new decision and not merely a taking back of the old one. So, in that sense, the quote is right. (smile)

Then there’s this: ‘I cannot say whether things will get better if we change; what I can say is they must change if they are to get better.’ Now that seems to be rather truthful. If the current situation is bad, then things will only get better if wise change occurs. Merely leaving it the same will not cause any improvement. However, I totally disagree with this next quote: ‘When in doubt, choose change.’ That means you’ll be choosing change just for the sake of change, since there might be no good or logical reason to change.

But change, especially significant change, should not be made without some good grounds, some useful purpose or enhancement such change will provide. And just because you have doubts, doesn’t mean you should just jump into the unknown. Although that’s what a lot of us are doing in these times of great change. Oftentimes, we don’t know what we’re doing or where we’re going, but because others are changing, are doing something new or different, we think we ought to do the same, we can’t let them get ahead of us, because we absolutely need to be a part of the in-crowd. But that is pure foolishness my brethren.

Not all change is good for us, and the follow the Jones’ lifestyle only gets us into more problems than we already have. Just take the example of the new cell phones that come out almost every year. Some of us just feel we need to have them because they are new, and have new toys in them. But they are usually more expensive too, and don’t always work as good as the older ones. And in fact, most of us won’t ever use the new toys in them.

We don’t even use our current phone to its best level. But there’s a new one out, and we must have it, we must keep up with the throng and make the phone makers even richer! And in such situations, re our first quote, we definitely may not be able to retract our hasty and thoughtless decisions. (smile) But as they say, to each his own.

That brings us to the next quote: ‘When a defining moment comes along, you can do one of two things. Define the moment, or let the moment define you.’ Now that’s gospel truth friends! When defining moments crop up, you only have two options; to let the moment define you, or you define it. And the sensible option is usually the latter. You define the moment, you come up over the problem, don’t allow it to take you where it wants to go.

And I guess we should define what we mean by defining moments. (smile) Those are basically important times in your life, when what is in front of you has the ability to change the trajectory of your life, like a new job offer, or meeting a new lady friend, or the most important defining moment in all of our lives, finding Jesus and cheerfully latching on to Him! When those opportunities appear in our lives, we have to face them mano -a- mano, rise up above them, take the bull by the horns sort of thing, evaluate the situations, and hopefully make wise decisions, because it’s not always in our best interest to let nature take its course.

And that segues real nicely into our last quote. ‘A wise man can learn more from his enemies than a fool from his friends.’ Now that’s certainly an interesting statement. I guess it goes back to a couple of other sayings: ‘Keep your friends close, and your enemies even closer.’ And also, ‘Show me your friends, and I’ll tell you who you are.’ The last one insinuates that if you are foolish, then most likely your friends are also foolish, so there’s not a whole lot you can learn from them.

Meanwhile, the first saying is telling us to keep a close eye on our enemies because we can learn their secrets and tactics, which will help us in our fight against them. But the whole thing boils down to having wise friends and no enemies. But if you do have enemies, as Cousin Sol says in Proverbs: ‘If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat, and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink. For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord shall reward thee.’ (Prov. 25:21-22) And the scholars tell us that ‘Coals of fire does not refer to revenge or punishment but to pangs of shame that will lead to reconciliation.’

But Jesus goes one better than that. He says: ‘LOVE your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully (spitefully) use you, and persecute you.’ (Matt. 5:44) Now that’s not an easy row to hoe in this strife filled world of ours, but that’s what Jesus expects of His followers, and what we should all endeavour to do, if we bear His name, consider Him our Lord and Saviour.

And remember, He’s promised never to leave nor forsake us, as He told the disciples: ‘and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.’ (Matt. 28:20b) So there’s no need to fear, for Jesus is always with us, leading, guiding and helping us through His indwelling Holy Spirit and allowing us to do great things in His name, through His divine strength. Much LOVE!

…one more day…just one more day…before the triumphant resurrection…please wait faithfully for it… because it WILL come…

So it’s finally Saturday, and we’re either sleeping in, getting ready to do piled up household chores, or getting ready to go out and do the grocery shopping that we also couldn’t do during the work week. But whatever it is we’re doing, even if it’s just nothing, please remember that our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is always right there with us, leading, guiding, encouraging and LOVING us, through the indwelling power of His amazing Holy Spirit!

And for that, we ought to be eternally grateful, because no other faith is guaranteed what we Christians have: the LOVE, mercy and grace of Jesus, that brings forgiveness of sins, and eventually leads to eternal life in heaven with Him. We indeed have the best of all worlds! So let’s give sincere thanks and do our best to walk holy as we go about His business today nuh, so that others can see Christ in us and be encouraged to come to Him, because that’s what He desires of us, His ambassadors, His agents, His foot soldiers! And all God’s children said ‘Amen!’

Now let’s look at the quotes our friend Anselm sent us this week, as he aspires to inspire us for a better tomorrow. And the first one says: ‘If you do not change direction, you might end up where you are heading.’ Yes friends, you can be pretty sure that if you don’t veer away from your current direction, you will end up where it’s leading. For you certainly can’t be going in one particular direction and expect to end up other than where it’s headed.

Consequently, this next quote puts it all into the proper perspective. ‘We can’t be afraid of change. You may feel very secure in the pond that you are in, but if you never venture out of it, you will never know that there is such a thing as an ocean, a sea.’ And that’s the gospel truth! Too many of us prefer to stay in our comfort zone rather than step out of it and risk disappointment or trouble. But trouble and disappointment can, and will find you wherever you are. That’s for sure.

The problem with staying securely in your comfort zone is that you will never really see the beauty and treasures that life really holds. That’s because life only opens up to those who truly seek it, who step out and look for it. Remember what Jesus said: ‘Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock and it shall be opened unto you.’ (Matt. 7:7) Yes my people, that’s also what life expects of us; to come seeking it. All its beauty and treasures won’t just drop in your lap if you stay safe and comfortable. The same thing goes for our Christian beliefs; we have to step out and show others Christ in us.

And that brings us to this next quote: ‘The changes we dread most may contain our salvation.’ Now that’s no lie my brethren! Ofttimes, the change(s) we are most afraid of are the ones which hold the best end result for us. But that’s just life; the best things are usually the hardest to do and achieve. For whatever reason, life just doesn’t do easy as much as we would like it to. So we can’t run from it, if we want to enjoy it. We have to join the fray; get involved, handle whatever comes against us with a good attitude, with God’s help obviously.

It’s the only way to live the abundant life that Christ says He came and died for us to have. And if you don’t believe me, listen to Him tell it. ‘The thief (that’s Satan) cometh not but for (except) to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.’ (John 10:10) And that abundant life is one filled with a heavenly perspective, trusting and surrendering to Jesus, walking in the Spirit, and letting its fruit blossom forth in our lives as we journey on to heaven and eternal life. And we can only do that if we are not afraid of change.

So we move on to the next quote that says: ‘It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.’ And that’s true to a great extent since life changes whether we want it to or not. For example, we grow older and more infirm every day, although we don’t want to. (smile) But the ones who handle aging the best are those who realize the predicament and make the necessary changes so that they can still be productive. You eat as healthily as possible, get as much exercise as possible, pray and show LOVE as much as possible.

Now that doesn’t mean we must change just for change’s sake. And that’s why I have an issue with our last quote. ‘We must be impatient for change. Let us remember that our voice is a precious gift and we must use it.’ I thoroughly disagree with the first statement. We should not be impatient for change, because all change is not necessarily good or timely change. And that’s one of the major problems in our world right now: everybody’s hollering for change! But look at all the problems that change has caused us in the last little while nuh, especially with the worldwide explosion of social media, where so much negative stuff is now being disseminated.

Change is good to the extent that it improves our lives, and that does not mean making us fat or fatter and lazier, as has been the case in the last few years. We have so many helpmates nowadays, that we end up doing very little for ourselves, and that’s no good for the species, for as the saying goes, ‘if you don’t use, it you’re going to lose it.’ And that’s exactly what’s been happening to the human race. We haven’t been using all of our faculties and bodies, thus we are steadily losing the ability to function without all of our helpmates.

And with the hasty pursuit of A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) we’ll soon lose even more, as we are required to do even less. You can see it already in platforms like what’s app, where after a few messages, they can almost write one for you. So, soon, we won’t even have to think any more, the machines will be doing it for us. And what do you think will happen to our minds and brains eh? They’ll simply atrophy. We’ll lose the ability to use them. Now is that what we desire for our species? Certainly not!

Too much easy life is no good. That’s why societies fall into disarray and ruin, after having reached a pinnacle of work and productivity. Then they just sit on their fannies and enjoy the good life. But if everyone does that, the society crumbles. Life is strange that way. We work hard to rise to the heights, and when we get there, thinking there’s nothing left to achieve, we just allow it to fall apart.

But that’s not what Jesus expects of his people, of His church my brethren! Our voices are precious, and He expects us to use them to be productive on His behalf right to the very end, even to our last breath, encouraging others to come to Him. So please my fellow believers, let’s stand up strong for Jesus nuh! Let’s allow our voices to be heard loud and clear for what we believe in, and don’t pursue change just for the sake of change. It’s not good for our species, or what God desires for us. Much LOVE!
