Psalm 38:1.    O Lord, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.
 
And as that contentious day, Monday, dawned around the world, the rich voices of God’s people could be heard joyfully declaring: ‘TGIM! Thank God it’s Monday! Time to go back out amongst the evildoers and fight for Jesus!’
 
Ah mih Friends, I’m working here on the supposition that if we hear it often it enough, it will eventually sink into our souls through osmosis or some other divine action, (smile) and we’ll eventually come to believe it and act accordingly. For there’s nothing greater than hope in this life.
 
And now that I’ve woken up to the true reality of the situation, let’s sing our Monday Morning Battle Hymn with much gusto. As one great voice now: ‘Oh Lord God Almighty, Creator of the universe and all therein! We, your humble servants, praise your Holy Name and thank you that this Monday morning we have jobs to go to; jobs we don’t like, jobs that are unfair, difficult and even dangerous, but which serve a useful purpose here on earth; keeping lives and families together.
 
We also thank you Father for the renewed vitality and enthusiasm you’ve wrought in our weary souls over the last two days. It’s that rejuvenation of Spirit which allows us now to sally forth with confidence into the evil, ungodly world that surrounds us, to begin a new week of work, constantly buffeted and bombarded by the enemy’s wicked taunts, wiles and lies. But heavenly Father, we’re not afraid, for we know we’re invincible, sure conquerors, once we’re wearing your powerful, protective spiritual armour.
 
We surrender our all to you, and humbly ask that you let your incredible aura of LOVE, the Holy Spirit, lead and guide all your servants as we go out to meet the enemy in battle. Fill us with steadfast faith, so that we can make worthwhile inroads into the enemy’s ranks, and thereby further your glorious kingdom. We pray this in the Holy Name of your Son, and our Saviour, Jesus Christ. AMEN!’
 
Great singing Friends! It sounded so heartfelt that all the heavenly hosts joined us. Now that certainly says something positive about our singing and the state of our hearts. Anyway, as you can see, we’re back with the same Bit as yesterday: ‘O Lord, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.’
 
That’s because yesterday I was guided to go through the whole psalm, when I had planned to quote some scriptures dealing with heartfelt pleas, healing and chastening. Well today we’re going to do that.
 
And to start us of, we’ll turn to the first verse of Psalm 6, A Prayer for mercy, where Bruh David opens thus: ‘O Lord, rebuke me not in thine anger, neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.’ (Ps.6:1)
 
You’ll notice Friends that it’s almost exactly the same as our Bit, except instead of using ‘thy wrath, he uses ‘thine anger.’ But they convey the same meaning. So it seems that there were times when Bruh David felt that he deserved rebuke and pleads with God not to make it too harsh.
 
And I believe that consciousness of wrong doing, as well as his forthrightness to lay all his cards on the table before the Lord, without pretext or pretence, is what so endeared him to his Creator. There wasn’t the hypocrisy and such in his crying out that’s so prevalent today. Too many of us cry out to God for help, but with the wrong motives, or with hidden secrets, foolishly submerged, as though the Lord can’t see them.
 
That’s why we so often don’t receive any answers to our pleas. The important thing my brethren, is that when we cry out to God for help, we must come clean with Him, don’t hold back anything, because that hinders communication with our Maker.
 
Now the next scripture I want to draw to our attention comes from Psalm 118; Thanksgiving for the Lord’s Salvation. The psalmist boldly proclaims: ‘The right hand of the Lord is exalted: the right hand of the Lord doeth valiantly. I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord. The Lord hath chastened me sore (severely): but he hath not given me over unto death. Open to me the gates of righteousness: I will go into them, and I will praise the Lord.’ (Ps.118:16-19)
 
Yes Friends, let’s be extremely thankful that our Lord’s nature is to have mercy, otherwise most of us would exit this life much sooner than we planned. And note too the psalmist’s reaction to God’s mercy; a greater awareness and dedication to righteousness and praise.  
 
And we’ll end with this quote from the prophet Jeremiah, as he soulfully declares: ‘O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps. O Lord, correct me, but with judgement (justice); not in thine anger, lest thou bring me to nothing. Pour out thy fury upon the heathen (Gentiles) that know thee not, and upon the families that call not on thy name: for they have eaten up Jacob (Israel), and devoured him, and consumed him, and have made his habitation desolate.’ (Jer.10:23-25)
 
Ah mih people Jeremiah was surely giving it all he had, for He knew the intensity of God’s wrath if it ever fell completely upon His chosen people Israel. As the scholar’s put it: ’10:24-25. Jeremiah surrenders to God’s program of judgement but asks that the necessary chastisement not be carried out severely (cf. 46:28; Hab.3:2).’ 
 
And so should we likewise surrender my people, with the sincere aim of coming up higher in His estimation, so there won’t be as much chastening. Till tomorrow then, when, provided the Lord’s in favour, we’ll continue this topic, because I have more scriptures to share, but in the interest of our mental strain and busy lives, I won’t share them all today. (smile)
 
So till we meet again, may the Lord bless us and keep us safely under the protection of His everlasting wings, cause His radiant countenance to shine upon us, give us His wonderful peace, wisdom and understanding, for therein lies our reason to be. Much LOVE!

Today’s Scrip-Bit 26 August 2013 Psalm 37:1

Psalm 37:1:     Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.
 
Oh Friends, as Jesus opened the windows of heaven this morning, before He could even look out, an unfamiliar strain from earth reached His ears. It sounded like a chant, but one that He’d never heard before. So He leaned out the window to try and hear it better. Lo and behold my people, a warm, fuzzy smile broke out over His radiant countenance as He heard these words rising up to heaven.
 
‘TGIM! Thank God it’s Monday! Time to be up and about Jesus’ business! The battle will soon be joined, for Jesus is already at the front lines! Up and at them Christian soldiers! For the victory is ours, through Jesus! Amen!’
 
Ah Friends, what a blessed day that will be eh, when we begin the workweek in such a joyful and godly mood and state of mind! But don’t worry, we’re working on it. It will become reality in God’s good time. But until then, let’s lustily sing our Monday Morning Battle Hymn.
 
As one sweet, sounding harmonious choir now: ‘Oh Lord God Almighty, Creator of the universe and all therein! We, your humble servants, praise your Holy Name and thank you that this Monday morning we have jobs to go to; jobs we don’t like, jobs that are unfair, difficult and even dangerous, but which serve a useful purpose here on earth; keeping lives and families together.

Ah mih breddren, that was good! Jesus was pleased. So with the adrenalin pumping, the faith, strength and confidence soaring, let’s go out now and engage Lucifer and his evil buddies in a fight to the death!
 
And our Bit ties in quite nicely with all of that my people. ‘Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.’
 
Oh Friends, I know that is often very difficult to do in this evil and ungodly world, when it seems that the wicked is forever prospering, while the righteous struggle and suffer. But please remember my fellow believers, that even the psalmist and man of great faith, Asaph, also had that problem, as he tells us in Psalm 73, the mystery of prosperous wickedness.
 
‘But as for me, my feet were almost gone (I had almost stumbled); my steps had well-nigh slipped. For I was envious at the foolish (boastful), when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.’ (Ps.73:2-3) 
 
But Bruh David then tells us why we should not be jealous of the prosperous evildoers. ‘For they shall soon be cut down like the green grass, and wither as the green herb.’ (Ps.37:2)
 
Now that’s the true state of the wicked my brethren! And I’m sure we don’t want to be a member of any group that’s eventually going to be destroyed by Almighty God.
 
Note too, that Moses in his only psalm, ‘From everlasting to everlasting thou art God,’ acknowledges God’s eternal staying power and man’s short, flimsy and futile nature. ‘For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night. Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which groweth up. In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up; in the evening it is cut down and withereth.’ (Ps.90. 4-6) 
 
Meanwhile Friends, the author of Psalm 92, in his praises for the Lord’s goodness, puts it thus: ‘Oh Lord, how great are thy works! And thy thoughts are very deep. A brutish man knoweth not; neither doth a fool understand this. When the wicked spring (sprout, spring up) as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed  for ever: But thou, Lord, art most high for evermore.’ (Ps.92:5-8)
 
And that’s undeniable, unalterable, indisputable gospel truth my brethren, for our God is the Creator and Controller of this universe and all therein! Please let’s not forget that very significant and salient point, because in doing so, we jeopardize our eternal destiny. 
 
Yes Friends, with His omnipotence, omniscience and omnipresence, there’s NOTHING or NO ONE greater than Yahweh, the Most High God Jehovah, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob!
 
It thus behoves us to pay serious attention to His Word, His commands, His statutes and His dictates, if we want to live a long, prosperous and righteous life, encompassed by salvation through the sacrificial death of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, with eternal life in heavenly places as our final reward.
 
And that, my fellow believers, is true wisdom, wisdom of the everlasting kind! Much LOVE!

Today’s Scrip-Bit 30 January 2013 John 12: 49

John 12:49.    For I have not spoken of myself, but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
 
And as another day dawns on God’s bountiful earth, all the creatures of His universe turn to praise and acknowledge Him in whatever manner He prescribes for them; be they fish or fowl, man or beast. So let’s raise our heads, hearts, hands and eyes heavenward and offer our heartfelt thanks for His incomparable blessing of allowing us to see another fine day here on earth. Let’s all happily intone: ‘This is the day the Lord has made, we WILL rejoice and be glad in it!’ Now Friends, we just can’t mouth those words yuh know, but also have to go out and put them into action. Actually put rejoicing and gladness into whatever situations we find ourselves. This needs to be a conscious decision, not something we hope will flow from our circumstances. For remember, the joy of the Lord is our strength, (Neh. 8:10) and if we lose that JOY which comes from knowing Jesus, then our lives will be like trash, blown any which way by the ever huffing and puffing winds of evil. So the first thing we need to do everyday on awakening, is to reignite that joy, put the bellows to that spark of fire in our souls that has burnt low during the night. Then and only then, are we ready to face the day, come whatever may, because the LOVE, JOY and STRENGTH of Jesus are all burning brightly in our souls. Now let’s see what our Bit wants to tell us today. ‘For I have not spoken of myself (my own authority), but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.’ Isn’t it interesting Friends, that throughout His entire ministry, Jesus kept on humbling Himself, kept on claiming that the words He spoke and the deeds He did, were not of Himself, but of His heavenly Father. But instead of actually paying attention to what He was saying, and if His deeds were in concert with His words, the religious leaders of the day were only concerned about His contention that He was the Son of God. And the same thing’s happening today. When believers talk about Jesus as Lord and Saviour, the heathen don’t really listen to what we’re saying, re things like Peace and LOVE, but quickly get this pickle in their ear about Jesus Himself and begin condemning Him. The message itself gets lost in all the paraphernalia surrounding it. I’m sure if Lucifer gets religion and changes his act and begins talking of LOVE and Peace, the message won’t get lost though, because we’ve been programmed to welcome Lucifer in whatever guise, but not Jesus. Anyway, what I want to do today is point out some of the many times that Jesus made nothing of Himself, but gave all the power and glory to God the Father. First though, let’s deal with the last part of the Bit, (smile) ‘…what I should say, and what I should speak,’ because it brings up very important stuff that pertains to us today. Some of us may not realize it, but those words of Jesus fulfilled a prophecy from the days of Moses. The Lord promised, through Moses: ‘I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. And it shall come to pass that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him. (Deut.18:18-19) Yes Friends, that promised Prophet was to be like Moses, a mediator between God and man. And the only person powerful enough to fulfill that role since the promise, was Jesus. According to the scholars, that Prophet would be ‘faithful (Heb.3:2), full of compassion and LOVE (Num.27:17; Matt.9:36), a powerful intercessor for His people (9:18; Heb.7:25), speaking with God face-to-face and reflecting the divine glory (2 Cor.3:7) Like Christ, he was to be a mighty prophet in word and deed (Luke 24:19), a revealer of God’s will and purpose (cf.6:1; Rev.1:1) a mediator of the covenant (29:1); Heb.8:6-7), and a leader of the people (Is.55:4).’ Yes my brethren, our wonderful Lord and Saviour Jesus is the fulfillment of all that! Now the second thing I want us to note, is what Jesus says to the disciples when warning them of the serious persecution to come. ‘But when they deliver you up, take no thought (do not worry about) how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.’ (Matt.10:19-20) That means believers today should not be afraid of persecution, because in time of need, the Holy Spirit of our heavenly Father will tell us what to say, and how to react. So my brethren, that fear of not knowing what to say when troubles come, is one more fear we can cast adrift, because we have Jesus’ assurance that He will work in us, when it’s necessary. Hn, hn, hn! Oh mih people, I think I’ve outdone myself, but what’s new about that eh? It seems we’ll have to leave those scriptures I promised until tomorrow, God willing obviously, because there are several I want to share. Anyway, we have enough stuff to ponder today. Don’t want to give us too much, what with our busy schedules of everyday living. (smile) So as we opened with thanks, let’s close with a blessing. May the good Lord we serve and worship, bless us and keep us safe from all harm. May He shine His wonderful and radiant countenance on us, and give us His everlasting peace, so that we can walk worthy of Him, and thus further His glorious kingdom. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen. Much LOVE!…with Jesus ruling our hearts…fear should be a thing of the past…
