Today’s Scrip-Bit 17 April 2014 Psalm 19:14

Psalm 19:14.     Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength (rock), and my redeemer.

Oh Friends, it’s been a while now since I reminded us of our Scrip-Bit motto, but I was guided to share it this Holy Thursday morning. It’s a simple but truthful and compelling motto: ‘LOVE YOUR GOD – LIVE YOUR FAITH – SPREAD HIS WORD!’

Nothing can be simpler and more straightforward than that my people! And it’s all based on Jesus’ commands. The first of which is: ‘Thou shalt LOVE the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.’ (Matt.22:37-38)

So above all else, we need to truly LOVE OUR GOD!

Then Jesus desired us to live out our faith when He declared that we should not hide our lights, our talents, under a bushel, a basket or lampshade, but to be the bright and shining lights of the world, the salt of the earth, worthy examples for all to see and emulate. (Matt.5:13-16)

And finally, He commanded us to spread His Word in the Great Commission: ‘Go ye therefore, and teach (make disciples of) all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.’ (Matt.28:19-20)

So Friends, we can surely see that if we sincerely and diligently do those three things, we are very much in obedience to Jesus’ desires, and walking steadfastly in His will!

And that’s all we’re trying to establish with the Scrip-Bit; to keep us focused on the Word and Will of God in our earthly lives. But such is the power of the enemy and our own natural sinfulness and weakness, that we need constant reminders to stay on the tried and true, straight and narrow path that leads to heaven and our Father, our Creator.

And that’s exactly what our Bit is trying to establish: ‘Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength (rock), and my redeemer.’

Yes my people, we certainly need to let good, positive thoughts and desires develop in our hearts, if our words are to be godly and righteous. We should not be cursing, but rather blessing each other. For how can we curse a man made in God’s image, and then declare we LOVE God eh? That’s not possible my brethren.

Anyway, turning back to our Bit, yesterday we looked at a couple scriptures that dealt with the meditation of our hearts. Today we’ll check out some that depict the Lord as our strength and our redeemer. And obviously we’ll begin with words from Bruh David, (smile) taken from Psalm 31.

He begins it with a wonderful acclamation of faith: ‘In thee, O Lord, do I put my trust (take refuge); let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness. Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock (of refuge), for a house of defence (fortress) to save me.

For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name’s sake lead me, and guide me. Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily (secretly) for me: for thou art my strength. In to thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O Lord God of truth.’ (Ps.31:1-5)

Oh my people, we couldn’t ask for a better and more convincing example of trust and faith in Almighty God!

Meanwhile, Jeremiah declares it in full voice in his prophecy against Babylon. ‘Thus saith the Lord of hosts; The children of Israel and the children of Judah were oppressed together: and all that took them captive held them fast; they refused to let them go. Their Redeemer is strong; the Lord of hosts is his name: he shall thoroughly plead their cause (case), that he may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.’ (Jer.50:33-34)

The Lord of hosts is our Redeemer, Friends – none but the Lord of hosts!

And if you don’t believe Jeremiah, then listen to Isaiah, who states it loudly, clearly and proudly in Chapter 47 – Judgement on Babylon. ‘As for our redeemer, the Lord of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel.’ (Is.47:4)

There’s definitely no doubting there my people, of whom the Redeemer is! The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is the Great Redeemer of His people Israel!

Let’s keep that in mind my fellow believers. Let’s write it indelibly in our hearts, souls and minds this Holy Thursday morning, as we keep prayerful vigil with Jesus Christ in His passion, His agony, contemplating His abominable fate of going to the cross of Calvary tomorrow, to redeem not only Israel, but the whole world, both Jews and Gentiles, through the most imaginative and daring plan ever executed in man’s history!

It was by no means an easy task, but Jesus completed it without complaining. So please, my fellow believers, let’s fully appreciate our Lord and Saviour’s selfless sacrifice on our behalf, and be truly grateful. For that’s nothing but heavenly wisdom! Much LOVE!

…oh what an awesome and magnanimous God we serve…One who selflessly and graciously redeems His sinful people from their heinous sins…

Today’s Scrip-Bit 16 April 2014 Psalm 19:14

Psalm 19:14.    Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength (rock), and my redeemer.

And then Friends, it was Wednesday morning of Holy Week! Wow! That most amazing and awesome time is fast approaching! We’re talking about the Easter weekend when Jesus, our mighty Lord and Saviour turned the whole world upside down with His crucifixion and eventual resurrection!

And all God’s people declared a loud shout of joy: ‘Oh bless the name of Jesus, our champion and our Holy Redeemer!’

Yes my people, the name of Jesus is indeed worthy of incomparable blessing, thanks and praise for the overwhelming change He’s wrought in the world and in our personal lives.

And speaking of change Friends, here is an interesting quote from one Irene Peter, taken from my One More Day Devotional. There were so many Irene Peter’s listed when I checked for some info on her, that it was impossible to decide which one it was.

Anyway, Irene says that: ‘Just because everything is different, doesn’t mean anything has changed.’ And that can often be true my brethren!

We are continually growing – hopefully in a good and positive manner – but ofttimes that growth is gradual and we don’t realize or recognize the change (s) until an event, or some events, wake us up to the reality of the situation.

And though our lives may sometimes end up being completely different, deep down inside we are still the same basic person; still having the same unique personality that God has so amazingly granted us. We are still warm, caring, LOVING and faithful people, but we have grown in certain respects.

And it’s always nice to know that though we have grown, through all the changes, our basic personality has remained the same. And oh my people, one of the best ways to grow is by allowing the faithful and immortal words of Bruh David in our Bit, to take hold of, and rule our souls.

‘Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength (rock), and my redeemer.’

What a powerful statement, my fellow believers! One that we should all be trying to practice!

And though it is not always an easy task – what with all the ungodliness and evil that continually badger and buffet us – with Jesus’ help, we can certainly do it most of the time.

That’s provided we’re serious about it, and retain a strong self-control, not allowing our tongues to start blabbering before our hearts and minds consider the situation and are able to formulate a godly response.

And we have Bruh David again pleading in Psalm 51, his prayer for cleansing after the prophet Nathan draped him up for his adultery with Bathsheba.

He prayerfully declares: ‘O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall show forth thy praise. For thou desirest not sacrifice; else I would give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.’ (Ps.51:15-17)

Yes Friends, our God doesn’t desire outward and/or material sacrifices so much as true inner contrition. And that’s where a lot of us, even supposed believers, are sadly lacking today!

We certainly talk a good talk, and sometimes even walk the talk, but yet, like the Pharisees in Jesus’ time, our hearts are not truly turned to God, or in sync with Him and His directives. That’s why He wisely chooses to investigate our hearts, the inner recesses of our souls, to ascertain our true motives.

And we’ll close with these beautiful words and intentions from Psalm 104 – God’s preservation of nature. ‘I will sing unto the Lord as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.

My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the Lord. Let the sinners be consumed out of the earth, and let the wicked be no more. Bless thou the Lord, O my soul. Praise ye the Lord. (Shout Hallelujah!).’ (Ps.104:33-35)

And my people, there’s no better time than this Easter Season to shout a glorious ‘Hallelujah! Praise and blessings to our awesome God, and to His most wonderful Son, Jesus Christ, the true King of Glory!’

Let’s now go forth in all truth and wisdom to LOVE and serve the Lord! Much LOVE!

…God’s people are at their best…when their hearts and mouths are filled with His praise…

P.S. Oh Friends, please excuse the lateness of the Bit, but it was all my fault. I got up late, and then at one point Internet Explorer began acting up, as it has been doing since they supposedly made some improvements. Hn!

But at one stage all I could get were capital letters, and there I was thrashing Explorer. I even stopped and got on to Google Chrome, only to experience the same situation. Then it suddenly dawned on me, the capitals lock was on.

Hn, hn! How ‘geekish’ eh! A perfect example of what I was talking about; letting our hearts and minds consider the situation before letting out tongues wag. Ah Lord eh! Our God certainly knows how to drive home a lesson.

Please note too how short the Bits are these days. (smile) Much LOVE, my brothers and sister in Christ!

Today’s Scrip-Bit 18 September 2013 Joshua 1:8

Joshua 1:8.   This book of the law shall not depart out of (shall constantly be in) thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Oh Friends, yesterday I fired a warning shot across our bow, re the old, black, homeless man asking the white Christian one, how Christians can worship a homeless man on Sundays, then turn their backs on the first homeless person they see on Mondays. I have one more shot to fire, so I decided to fire it today.

It’s about the same two men; the black one’s name is Denver Moore, and the white one is Ron Hall. Instead of trying to break it down, I’ll just quote the three paragraphs from the Article ‘Finding our way Home,’ from the August 2013 issue of In Touch Magazine.

Here goes. ‘From Denver, I learned the difference between “blessin” and helping. He once asked why I was always giving out dollar bills to the street people and dishing out spaghetti at the mission. “I like helping the homeless,” I told him.

“Mr. Ron,” he said, “you ain’t helping nobody, All you is doin’ is makin’ yourself feel better about being rich. You is blessin’ folks with your dollars and service, but a dollar bill and a plate of food ain’t changin’ a life. That takes LOVE. If you really serious ’bout helpin’ somebody, crawl down in the ditch with ’em, bandage up their wounds, and stick with ’em until they is strong enough to crawl up your back and get out.”

Denver understood that homelessness isn’t a government problem – it’s a church problem. I don’t know how he knew this, but he told me that there are at least as many (if not more) churches in America than homeless folks on the streets. “If every church would take in just one homeless person, the problem would be solved,” he explained. “I ain’t a very smart man, Mr. Ron, but it seems to me there is too much Bible studying and not enough Bible doing!”

And isn’t that the God awesome truth my Friends! It sure is! Too many of us supposed Christians practice supposed philanthropy merely to make ourselves feel good. We’ve given and we’ve helped and therefore we feel better about ourselves.

But as the man says, a plate of food and a dollar won’t get a body off the streets. We have to do much more, especially in our churches, to help the unfortunates in our society, a group that’s daily growing by leaps and bounds as our societies fall on hard economic times.

And remember too Friends, that though God does appreciate our outward actions of help, He greatly desires that our motives are right, truly from the heart, and not simply for our own selfish purposes. Anyway, that’s my shot of warning across our bow today. Please, let’s contemplate it and see how it reflects on our own lives.

Now here’s our Bit – hopefully for the last day. But who knows eh? (smile)

‘This book of the law shall not depart out of (shall constantly be in) thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.’

And I can’t point out strongly enough Friends, how important those words are in the life of every believer. Hopefully by now though, their importance should have hit home. Now let’s get to some relevant scripture to support my contention… oh no, it’s not a contention, but an assured fact. And we’re going to begin with Psalm 119, which talks a lot about the statutes etc. of the Lord.

Hear the Psalmist confidently declare: ‘Oh how I LOVE thy law! It is my meditation all the day! Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation.’ (Ps.119:97-99)

And again from Psalm 119: ‘I cried with my whole heart; hear me, O Lord: I will keep thy statutes. I cried unto thee; save me, and I shall keep thy testimonies. I prevented (rose before) the dawning of the morning, and cried (for help): I hoped in thy word. Mine eyes prevent (are awake through) the night watches, that I might meditate on thy word.’ (Ps.119:145-148)

Yes mih people, if we’re not familiar with the Lord’s Word, then our lives will never be as good as they can and ought to be!

Now let’s turn to Psalm 143, ‘Teach me to do thy will,’ and listen to Bruh David pour out his soul to Almighty God. ‘Therefore is my spirit overwhelmed within me; my heart within me is desolate. I remember the days of old; I meditate on all thy works; I muse (ponder) on the work of thy hands. I stretch forth my hands unto thee: my soul thirsteth after thee, as a thirsty land.   Selah.’ (Ps.143:4-6)

Ah Friends, do we cry out to God for help and guidance when our enemies bring us low? I surely hope so, because He’s the ONLY One who can truly help us.

And I have to chuckle here, as I contemplate our next contributor, Bruh Paul. Is there anything that he didn’t have some say on? I doubt it. But here he is talking to Timothy, his young protégé, exhorting him to get into the Word.

‘Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine (teaching). Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery (council of elders).

Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly (entirely) to them; that thy profiting (progress) may appear (be evident) to all. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.’ (1 Tim.4:13-16)

Yes my brethren, all those things still apply to each and every believer today! To truly grow and mature in Christ, we definitely need to read, meditate, practice and exhort others on the Word, so that the body of Christ remains strong and purposeful.

And here’s the scripture that you all have been waiting for. You can’t talk about meditation without mentioning it. I was just saving the best for last. (smile)

Now here are those immortal words of Bruh David: ‘Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength (my rock), and my redeemer.’ (Ps.19:14)

And all God’s people said a loud ‘Amen!’

Now Friends, let’s go out today and allow that verse to be our guide. Let’s try our best to bring it to pass – with God’s help of course. For then will we be truly viewed as wise and righteous – as true believers! Much LOVE!

…whomsoever will be a follower of Jesus…the same must know His Word…and practice it…
