Today’s Scrip-Bit 12 May 2019 2 Timothy 1:5.

2 Timothy 1:5.   When I call to remembrance the unfeigned (genuine) faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.

Oh my people, once again God’s marvellous creation we call the earth or the world, has spun seven times on its axis and brought us back to the best day of the week; Sunday! It’s God’s Day; our Sabbath, in which we’re required to rest and also fellowship with other believers in His sanctuary.

And that fellowshipping of believers is such a wonderful, joyful and awesome occasion, that we keep doing it every week to rejuvenate our depleted souls, bodies and minds, refresh them with God’s word, music, singing, dancing, praise and thanksgiving! Wow! What a magnificent combination of uplifting actions my faithful brethren!

And there’s no better way to begin the proceedings than with praise, worship and thanksgiving in the form of song. And today’s song is a powerful, soulful ditty titled ‘Because He Lives!’ A couple weeks ago we sang ‘I know My Redeemer Lives!’ But today it’s simply… ‘Because He Lives!’

So please friends, please let’s lift our hearts, souls, hands and eyes heavenward, and open our mouths in sweet, soulful song, as we offer up heartfelt thanks and praise for all that our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ has done for us mere mortals, abominable sinners that we were before He rescued us. So as one voice, in harmonious togetherness: (smile)

‘God sent His Son, They called Him Jesus. He came to LOVE, to heal, and to forgive. And He lived and He died, just to buy my pardon. And an empty grave is there to prove my Saviour lives! (Chorus: Because He lives, I can face tomorrow. Because He lives, all fear is gone. Oh yes it is! Because I know, I know He holds the future, and by His Word, the living…Just because He lives.)

How sweet to hold a new born baby. And feel the pride and joy that he brings. Oh, but greater still is that calm assurance, That this child, he can face uncertain days….Because Christ lives! And then one day, I’m going to cross that river, And I’ll find, I’m going to find life’s final word, its final word. And then, as death gives way to victory, I’ll see the light, and the glory and the power…Because He lives.

(Chorus: Because He lives, I can face tomorrow. Because He lives, all fear is gone. Oh yes it is! Because I know, I know He holds the future, and by His word, the living…Just because He lives.)’

What a beautiful rendition my people! Tears of joy were flowing in heaven as we sang…even from the Father’s eyes! And there’s nothing He likes more than to hear us sincerely give His Son the glory! His heart just cries as He hears us sing about His Son’s awful death and He remembers that fateful Good Friday day…

But then it’s filled with joy, when we mention His awesome resurrection on Easter Sunday, and all the good things that victory over the powers of evil did on our behalf! And let’s not forget that this is also a special Sunday, where we celebrate Mothers! Although as I keep saying, Mother’s should be celebrated every day of their lives for the amount of work, care and LOVE they bring to our families.

Father’s might be the bread winners, but Mothers are the ones who first bear the burden of childbirth, then become the growers, the nurturers of the family; who wash and cook and clean, wipe runny noses and sit for hours with us when we’re sick, never asking for much in return!  Without them, most families would fall apart in no time.

So Mothers, whoever and wherever you are, today we wish you a very special – ‘Happy Mother’s Day!’ And please enjoy it, because you might not see much of Sonny Boy or Girl Daughter, or get so much special attention for the next year or so. (smile)

And we’re not naïve or blind to believe that all mothers are wonderful, sweet, LOVING people. Some can be real tyrants, or even wicked, evil and ungodly. And yuh know friends, teaching the family about God and showing them good examples by their godly lives is probably a mother’s most important job in the household. I’m sure most of us would say that it’s our mother or grandmother or some such female relative who first brought us to God and then encouraged us to stay and grow with Him.

I can tell you that my mother’s grandmother did that for her, and my mother Molly, God rest her dear departed soul, did it for me. And all I can say is ‘Thank You M! Thank you for putting me on the right path, and even when I faltered, you never failed to remind me that God was just a prayer away.

I remember laughing at how you watched all those religious t.v. shows, only to find myself, don’t ask me how, watching many of them later on. As they say, God does move in mysterious ways, and I suppose that was probably one of His underhanded schemes to have me learn His Word, so that I could better write about it.

And that brings us to a fine example in the Good Book of female parents leading and guiding their male children. Hear how Bruh Paul puts it to Timothy: ‘When I call to remembrance the unfeigned (genuine) faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.’

Ah mih people, Timothy got his faith in the Lord through His mother and grandmother, through their teachings about God, as well as the godly examples of their own lives. And that’s one aspect of motherhood that we can never put a real price on, because there’s none! It’s simply God talking to a mother’s heart, having her impart His Word to her offspring.

Just like we can’t put a monetary price on Jesus’ sacrifice, we can’t put one on the value of true motherhood. And if you want to find out why, please read the praise of a virtuous woman in Proverbs 31:10-31.  It begins thus: ‘Who can find a virtuous woman (wife of valour)? For her price (worth) is far above rubies.’

So children, please honour your mothers today…and everyday… ‘So that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.’ (Ex.20:12) Much LOVE!

…MOTHERS…the undisputed backbone of our families…
