Psalm 46:10a.        Be still, and know that I am God.

Now, Thursday promises to be a much better day than Wednesday, that’s probably because it got washed in the early morning rains, so now it’s nice, clean and sunny, though it might get a tad hot and humid during the day. But once it’s not snow or ice, we’re quite happy to deal with it. (smile) And today we’re going to visit a very important topic in our faith walk, listening to God, especially so in these troubled and rather difficult times. To help us do that, let’s read this most interesting poem from our One Year Book of Bible Promises with writings by Ruth Harms Calkin. Don’t know if I ever shared it before, but if so, it’s certainly worth sharing again. It’s simply but most provocatively and appropriately titled, ‘A Listening Heart.’ 

Please read with me. ‘I remember vividly the lesson I learned from my husband one day as he came home from his office weary and depleted. It had been a difficult day. He needed to talk. My day had been difficult, too. Countless interruptions, phone calls, guests coming for brunch the next day. I wanted to listen, so I suggested that he follow me from room to room while I dusted the furniture. We tried it. While I dusted the piano, he talked. When I clanged the piano keys he continued, but with a trace of impatience. Next the stereo, then the tables. When I moved, he moved. 

Suddenly he grabbed my shoulders. “Please listen to me!”  Frankly I was shocked. “Honey, I heard every word you said.” “I mean listen with your heart!” I dropped the dust cloth. We sat down, and I gave my full attention. No body signals, no folded arms, no fingers tapping. I was again aware of the tremendous responsibilities my husband carried. He needed my understanding. He thanked me profusely for listening. That night I remembered how often God had said to the children of Israel, “If my people would only listen.” I thought of God’s yearning for an intimate relationship with us. He waits for our response to his still small voice. He longs for our listening hearts. How we must grieve him when we don’t listen!’ 

And is that ever the gospel truth my people! God’s heart is terribly grieved by the way we totally ignore Him in these evil and ungodly times; times when we most desperately need to listen to Him, to that still small voice that comes from His Holy Spirit dwelling within us, that will enable us to climb out of the evil muck and mire in which our world is currently enveloped! 

And yuh know what, it’s not God alone that we’re not listening to, but to each other, for although we have so many new and quick means of communication, we’re not really communicating, just vaping, or blowing smoke, useless words and ideas to each other. What makes listening even more difficult is the amazing amount of noise that now exists in our world. Everything is loud, turned up to the max, and that’s partly why we can’t hear each other. And with all that noise, how we do we ever expect to hear that still small voice of our great and wonderful God whispering His directions to our souls eh? 

It’s almost impossible! We need to get still, be quiet ourselves and listen! Like the Bible Promise on which our poem is based says: ‘Be still, and know that I am God.’ (Ps. 46:10a) And do we ever need to make that a habit, because with the advent of increased noise levels in the last couple of generations, the listening aspect of our lives has sadly deteriorated, till now we have forgotten how to listen. We don’t even remember there’s such a thing as listening, as we try to talk all at once, to make ourselves heard above the storm of noise that constantly surrounds us. 

And one perfect example of the noise level increase, is that in my area, up to a couple of years ago, we were not accustomed to hearing the sirens of police cars, ambulances and fire trucks, but now, almost every day there’s a cacophony of sirens happening here. When I heard the sirens, I used to think of New York city, where they’re going all the time. And to make matters worse, they’re now building a fire station right in our area, a few blocks away from me. So you can imagine the rise in the noise level when that comes into operation. 

But I guess we call it progress; with more people now living in the area, we need more facilities close by. But that doesn’t excuse us from getting quiet and listening to God, for that’s where the directions for our earthly lives come from, and the more we practice listening to Him, the better we will become at discerning His voice. And if you don’t listen, how will you know what He desires of you? And the Good Library is saturated with scriptures about the importance of listening to God. 

So let’s check out a few of them nuh. Beginning with this one from Jesus: ‘My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.’ (John 10:27) That’s how sheep know their shepherd, by their voice. And thus, to be true followers of Jesus we need to listen to His voice and get to know it, so we won’t be led astray by a false shepherd. Then there are these provocative words from Isaiah. ‘And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.’ (Is. 30:21) But if you’re not listening how will you hear the directions eh? 

And again, in Isaiah, the Lord pleads with His people: ‘…hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness (abundance). Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live…’ (Is. 55:2b-3a) Yes friends, all through the Bible we are encouraged to listen to God’s voice, through His Word, and through the Holy Spirit. And until we get good at it through unceasing practice, we will never fully get the information we so badly need to live the abundant life that Christ died for us to have. 

Now here’s a prayer from one commentary that will hopefully help us in our listening to God’s small, still voice. Please pray it with me. ‘May God grant us open eyes, open hearts and open ears that we may always hear when God speaks to us. May God grant us discernment and wisdom to consistently recognize our Father’s voice. May God grant us willing hearts to obey God quickly when He gives us certain instructions.’ Please ponder that prayer for a moment. 

Now let’s go home declaring our Thursday Blessings. As one strong and sincere voice: ‘I declare that I am blessed with God’s supernatural wisdom and receive clear direction for my life! I declare today that I am blessed with creativity, courage, talent and abundance! I am blessed with a strong will, self-control and self-discipline! I am blessed with a great family, good friends, good health, faith, favour and fulfillment! I am blessed with success, supernatural strength, promotion and divine protection! I am blessed with a compassionate heart and a positive outlook on life! I declare that any curse or negative word that’s ever been spoken over me is broken right now in the name of Jesus! I declare that everything I put my hands to, will prosper and succeed! I declare it today and every day! Amen!’ 

And now that we’ve activated those blessings, it’s our bounden duty to go out and share them just as generously with others, as Christ shared them with us! Much LOVE!

… learning to listen…is the believer’s first act of discipleship… 

P.S. Please forgive me, I completely forgot about our promise to continue with the parable of the rich man and Lazarus from yesterday. I guess the Lord taught today’s topic more important, because He didn’t remind me util I was almost though with today’s Bit.  (smile) Much LOVE!

2 Corinthians 3:5.       Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves, but our sufficiency is of God.

Now, whether you believe it or not, it is indeed the first day of August, a beautiful Tuesday; cool, sunshiny and without a trace of a cloud in the bright blue sky. Ah Lord eh, the good days just fly by so quickly while the cold and ugly-looking ones take their own sweet time to move along. But that’s life, and like all the other aspects of our earthly days, we just have to learn to accept and handle them, obviously with the help of the Holy Spirit of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, our guide and comfort. 

And I know that talk is cheap, while actions cost a lot more, but worrying and agonizing over the things of life we cannot control won’t make them improve or go away. However, with Jesus in your life, you have the assurance that He will help you handle whatever comes against you. Not that He won’t give you more than you can handle, as so many people mistakeably dispense. For all throughout the Bible you can find passages where the Lord gave His servants more than they could humanly handle. 

Take for instance when Elijah fought and slew all the 450 prophets of Baal, then faced the wrath of Queen Jezebel, who threatened to kill him, he ran for his life a day’s journey into the wilderness and sat down under a juniper tree, and requested of the Lord that he would die. But as it says in 1 Kings 19:1-8, the Lord fed him through ravens and allowed him to rest. 

‘And the angel of the Lord came again a second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat, because the journey is too great for thee. And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat (food) forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.’ (1 Kin. 19:7-8) It’s obvious then that Elijah reached a stage where he just couldn’t handle it anymore, but the Lord looked after him. And that’s what He’s promised to do, for all who sincerely worship Him. 

And I like the examples this commentary by Ron Edmonson gives. ‘David, the great war hero and man after God’s own heart, told the Lord that “troubles without number surround me” and “I cannot see”. He couldn’t see clearly, because he was overwhelmed with the storms of life! Another time David said, “Save me, O God, for the waters have come up to my neck.” (Oh how I identify with David there!) Jehoshaphat prayed, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.” (2 Chr. 20:12) It sounds like he was facing more than he could handle on his own.’ 

So it’s not that God won’t give us more than we can handle but what the scripture says is: ‘There hath no temptation taken (overtaken) you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear (endure) it.’ (1 Cor. 10:13) 

What that verse says is that God won’t allow Satan to bring  more temptation or enticement to sin than we can handle, and when we are tempted or enticed to sin, He will make a way for us to resist it, because He doesn’t want us to fall into Satan’s clutches, but to live the holy life that Christ desires of us. But He will allow stuff to come on us greater than we handle in our own right, because He wants us to come to the end of our rope and realize that He’s our ONLY HOPE! 

And in Bruh Paul’s second letter to the church at Corinth, he tells them of his deliverance from suffering and death in Asia. ‘For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble (tribulation) which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure (burdened), above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life. But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead: Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us.’ (2 Cor. 1:8-10) 

Wow! That time of trouble certainly caused Bruh Paul to keep His focus on Almighty God and not himself. And anytime we get into problems we cannot handle, it should also cause us to do the same! Yes friends, our hope lies only in Christ Jesus! For as Bruh Paul later writes: ‘And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward: Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves, but our sufficiency is of God.’ (2 Cor. 3:4-5) 

And until we truly believe and action those sentiments my brethren, we’ll always have problems that cause us unnecessary worry and overwhelming anxiety, instead of the quieting peace of Christ. It’s like Christ says: ‘I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.’ (John 15:5) And there’s never been a truer word ever spoken my fellow saints! 

So please let’s take it to heart and place all of our trust in the sinless ONE, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, so that we can handle all the vicissitudes of this interesting but eccentric life. (smile) Now let’s go home declaring (chuh!!!) our Tuesday Mantra, letting all and sundry know to whom we belong lock, stock and barrel. In sincere harmony: ‘In God’s eyes, I’m not what I do. I’m not what I have. I’m not what people say about me. I am the beloved of God, that’s who I am. No one can take that from me. I don’t have to worry. I don’t have to hurry. I can trust my friend Jesus and share His LOVE with my immediate neighbours, as well as with the whole wide world! Glory be!’ 

Now, it behooves us to go out and share that amazing friendship and LOVE of Christ with those we meet, so that they too can come to know and LOVE Him like we do! Much LOVE!

…trust not in fragile and deceitful man… but in the awesome faithfulness and power of Jehovah God…

John 3:3a.       Except a man be born again (or from above) he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Monday, O Monday, how I do LOVE thee! Let me count the ways. No friends, I ‘m not losing my marbles by talking about LOVING Monday. There are several good reasons for LOVING Monday; first of all, it’s another new day on God’s great planet earth, and we’ve been chosen by the Almighty to see and enjoy it, plenty others did not get that chance, so we should be very thankful. 

Then Monday is the first day of the work week, the day we’re spiritually the strongest and most confident after fellowshipping with other believers on Sunday, and therefore the day we’re most likely to do our best witnessing for Christ. And Monday is also the day we get back into the swing of things and share our weekend thrills and spills with our co-workers. So Monday is not as bad as we like to make out; it’s just our unpreparedness for it that makes us give it a bad name. 

Now what does the Lord want us to talk about this last day of July 2023 eh? Yes, I did say the last day of July 2023! Can you imagine it? July’s done and over with, which means that the summer’s drawing to a close, with only August left to navigate, then the cold weather is back with us. And I don’t care what anybody says, this year has certainly gone by a lot quicker than the last few have done! (smile) 

And it seems like the Lord wants us to talk about the conversation Jesus had with Nicodemus, because that’s where the Good Library just opened unto. And what was that all about eh? John wrote in his gospel: ‘There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles (signs) that thou doest, except God be with him. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again (or from above) he cannot see the kingdom of God.’ (John 3:1-3) 

Now let’s stop there for a moment and consider the implications of what we’ve just read. First of all, the scholars tell us that ‘Nicodemus came to Jesus by night, probably because he was afraid of the repercussions from his fellow Pharisees, who didn’t believe in Jesus. Then, Nicodemus accepted Jesus as a teacher and a rabbi from God who worked miracles, but Jesus was not impressed with the depth of Nicodemus’ belief or understanding. Many unbelievers still agree that Jesus was a “great man,” and not the Son of God.’ 

And re Jesus’ statement of being born again, they say ‘it may be translated either “again” or “from above.” And perhaps both ideas should be combined here, to indicate the repetition of an act from another source. Only John uses this expression in the Gospels. This concept of the New Birth includes these implications: (1) It undercuts Jewish dependence on being sons of Abraham (cf. 8:39). (2) It reveals there must be a work of God “from above,” since the Jews considered children (new births) to be God’s blessing. (3) It teaches the necessity of a new beginning.’ 

And since Nicodemus didn’t understand what Jesus was talking about, he questioned: ‘How can a man be born again when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where it listeth (wishes), and thou hearest the sound thereof, but cannot tell whence it cometh, and wither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.’ (John 3:4:8) 

Yes friends, we must all be born of the Spirit, have a spiritual rebirth before we can enter God’s kingdom, and the Spirit is like the wind; you can’t tell where it’s coming from or going to, but you know it’s there. Now, poor Nicodemus was even more confused. Thus, he answered and said unto Jesus. ‘How can these things be? Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master (teacher) of Israel, and knoweth not these things. Verily, verily I say unto thee, We speak that (what) we do know, and testify that (what) we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.’ (John 3:9:11) 

And unfortunately, the very same thing is still happening today; so many people are refusing to believe Jesus’ witness, and that’s why our world is in such and evil and ungodly mess. But there is hope for us yet, if we do like Nicodemus and sincerely listen to and accept Jesus. And I like how the scholars check up on Nicodemus’ conversion. They say, he was a member of the ruling Jewish group, the Sanhedrin, like Joseph of Arimathea, and both appeared to be secret disciples of Jesus. 

And they point out that Nicodemus is mentioned three times in the New Testament, all in John’s gospel. In these three passages, John seems to focus on the progression of Nicodemus’ spiritual life. In chapter 3, that we just looked at, he comes to Jesus without any change evident in his life. In John 7:50 a change is observable in that he defends Jesus against the charge of the Sanhedrin. ‘Nicodemus saith unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them.) Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?’ (John 7:50-51) Then at the Crucifixion, both Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathea boldly and publicly stand as disciples of Jesus (John 19:38-39) 

Now that’s how we ought to be my brethren, standing up boldly and publicly for Jesus, if we consider ourselves His followers, not the wishy washy, fearful, doh care attitude that so many of us adopt. And now, to help us improve our less than stellar attitude, let’s go the throne of grace, through our Monday Morning Battle Hymn, and lay our cares and anxieties before the Lord. 

As one voice: ‘Our Father, who art in heaven, we, Your humble servants, praise Your Holy Name and thank You this Monday morning for life and strong faith in Christ, despite the mass confusion in our world. Heavenly Father, You are the ONLY ONE with the power to solve our many problems. Yes, we have all sinned and seriously disobeyed Your Word, but You are a merciful, forgiving and gracious God, who has faithfully promised to hear and answer our prayers when we humble ourselves, pray, and sincerely seek Your face. 

So, we come to You now, with sincere repentance in our hearts, pleading for wise guidance and direction to alleviate our problems. Oh Father, please ease the pain of the many suffering from negative situations, show them Your awesome grace and mercy. And faithfully keep Your promise to prosper us if we turn from our evil ways. Show this evil world that You are indeed Jehovah Rapha; the God who heals! We pray this in the holy and blessed name of Your Son, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! Amen! And again, we say: Amen!’ 

And if we truly want the Lord’s help, then we need to do our part to deserve it. Much LOVE!

Psalm 27:10.       When my father and mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up (take care of me).

And as it always does friends, Sunday has come around once again, meaning it’s time to gather in the Lord’s sanctuary to give thanks, worship and have joyful fellowship together. And today we open our worship services with a sweet, simple and timely Christian hymn titled ‘Softly and Tenderly Jesus is calling,’ written in 1880 by American lyricist and composer Will Lamartine Thompson (1847-1909) 

It seems Thompson was inspired to devote himself to writing while attending a meeting by popular evangelist Dwight L. Moody (1837-1899). And, allegedly, when Moody was dying in the hospital, barred from seeing visitors, Thompson showed up there and Moody insisted on seeing him, then he told Thompson, “Will, I would rather have written ‘Softly and Tenderly Jesus Is Calling’ than anything I have been able to do in my whole life.” That is the high regard in which the great evangelist held the song. 

So, with that same high regard, let’s now sing it, let’s raise our voices in sacrificial praise in a soulful, scintillating, harmonious and heartfelt version, that will leave no doubts whatsoever about our sincerity. Singing: ‘Softly and tenderly, Jesus is calling, calling for you and for me; see, on the portals he’s waiting and watching, watching for you and for me. (Refrain: Come home, come home; you who are weary come home; earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling, calling, O sinner, come home!) 

Why should we tarry when Jesus is pleading, pleading for you and for me? Why should we linger and heed not his mercies, mercies for you and for me? (Refrain) Time is now fleeting, the moments are passing, passing from you and from me; shadows are gathering, deathbeds are coming, coming for you and for me. (Refrain) O for the wonderful LOVE he has promised, promised for you and for me! Though we have sinned, he has mercy and pardon, pardon for you and for me. (Refrain: Come home, come home; you who are weary come home; earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling, calling, O sinner, come home! (Repeat)’ 

Oh friends, that was marvellous! Those simple but ever so true genuine sentiments touched hearts all over the universe! And this commentary explains why the song though simple is so powerful and so LOVED. ‘This hymn invites us to come and accept God’s mercy together. The first stanza and refrain give the picture that Jesus is gently calling, like a mother after her small children. The second stanza reminds us that there is nothing to be gained by delay, especially when the third warns that death is coming sooner or later. The final stanza entices us with a promise of LOVE, pardon, and mercy that is wonderfully available for those who wish to accept it.’ 

And that’s the gospel truth my brethren! Bruh David said it in Psalm 27: ‘When my father and mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up (take care of me).’ (Ps. 27:10) And Isaiah said it thus on the Lord’s behalf, when he advised his people to sing of Gods’ comfort and mercy. ‘Can a woman forget her sucking (nursing) child, that she should not (and not) have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget thee, yet will I not forget thee. Behold I have graven (inscribed) thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.’ (Is. 49:15-16) Now that was God’s promise to Israel, and it still holds true to us today. 

And all through the Good Library the Lord promises that He will never leave nor forsake those who come to Him in sincerity and truth. But Jesus, as was His won’t, encapsulated it best when He offered His Great Invitation: ‘Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of (from) me; for I am meek and lowly in heart (gentle and humble): and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.’ (Matt. 11:28-30) 

It could not be said any plainer or simpler than that my people! Jesus lays it all out on a platter for us: Here it is. This is what I can do for you. And NO ONE ELSE can do it like He does! But it’s up to us to accept His invitation. It’s like Isaiah invited on the Lord’s behalf long before that. ‘Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money, come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come buy wine and milk without money and without price. Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? Hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness (abundance).’ (Is. 55:1-2) 

Oh my people, the Lord’s offer of salvation is a free gift to all who will receive it. Isaiah spoke of those who were spiritually hungry and thirsty, while Jesus invited the weary and heavy laden, but it’s all the same thing; true spiritual food, a lighter burden and rest can only be had through God’s free gift of salvation, earned by Jesus’ sacrifice of His sinless life on the cross at Calvary. Jesus said it right up front: ‘For God so LOVED the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.’ (John 3:16-17) 

That’s how much God LOVED us! And He wasn’t afraid to show it. Bruh Paul writes in Romans: ‘But God commendeth (demonstrated) his (own) LOVE toward us, In that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.’ (Rom. 5:8) There can be absolutely no doubt of the very high level of compassion God had, and still has for His most precious but also most disobedient creation. And although we’re own way and disobedient, He’s still pleading with us to come home to Him, because that’s where we belong, and until we accept His offer of salvation, we will never be happy or satisfied, or most importantly get the chance to spend eternity with Him. 

For all who reject His Son, Jesus, will end up being eternally separated from Him, and as I keep reminding us, that is the worst thing that can happen to a human soul. And furthermore, time is running out on us friends, we don’t have all the time in world to make up our minds, because the Lord can take away your breath of life at any time and Jesus can also return at any time, like a thief in the night, and if any of those things happen before you accept Christ as Lord and Saviour, then you’re S.O.L, crapaud smoke yuh pipe. So as Jesus said, Let him hear, who has ears to hear! Much LOVE!

…only in and through Jesus…can we find ALL our souls need…

Psalm 24:1.       The earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

And what a perfect way to begin a lazy-day Saturday: dark and cloudy, raining and somewhat humid! Yes friends, that fits in very well with the kind of Saturday morning we desire, where there are no pressing circumstances to attend to, and one can simply take one’s time to do anything…or nothing. (smile) Anyway, my lazy time for this morning has already been used up by lying in bed, so it now behooves me to get to the Father’s business. Therefore, let’s now offer up our Lazy-Day Saturday Prayer with all sincerity of heart, mind, body and soul. 

As one voice: ‘Lord, I want to be with You now. Please slow my thoughts and quiet my soul. Let my muscles relax, my breath deepen. You are here with me – Your peace and LOVE are present. I marvel to think You can’t be contained, that Your LOVE both surrounds and fills me. Thank You for this tenderness, Lord. I praise You for Your unceasing nearness. Increase my awareness of You today, that I may know You all the more. Amen!’ 

Now, that’s cutting straight to the chase. No messing about with a whole lot of unnecessary, flowery words, but getting right down the nitty gritty, letting the Lord know how much we LOVE, desire and need Him, how grateful we are for His awesome presence and nearness in our lives, the way He comforts and relaxes us, and He’s oh awesome and amazing that we just thirst and hunger to know Him more, to get ever closer to His magnificent person that just overflows with LOVING-kindness! 

Wow! There’s certainly no other God as wonderful as our God Jehovah! In fact, there’s no other God BUT our God Jehovah! All other supposed gods are fakes and failures, dead to the world! The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is the One True and Living God in existence, the One who made the universe and all therein! And if you don’t believe me, then listen to these words of Bruh David from Psalm 24, which prove my declaration. (steups!!!) Read with me: ‘The earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods (rivers).’ (Ps. 24:1-2) 

Meanwhile Ethan the Ezrahite writes in Psalm 89: ‘O Lord God of hosts, who is a strong Lord like unto thee? or to thy faithfulness round about thee? Thou rulest the raging of the sea: when the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them. Thou hast broken Rahab (Egypt) in pieces, as one that is slain; thou hast scattered thine enemies with thy strong arm. The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine: as for the world and the fullness thereof, thou hast founded them. The north and the south thou hast created them: Tabor and Hermon (mountains) shall rejoice in thy name. 

Thou hast a mighty arm: strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand. Justice and judgement (righteousness and justice) are the habitation (foundation) of thy throne: mercy (LOVING-kindness) and truth shall go before thy face. Blessed are the people who know that joyful sound: they shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy countenance. In thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted. For thou art the glory of their strength: and in thy favour our horn (strength) shall be exalted. For the Lord is our defence: and the Holy One of Israel is our king.’ (Ps. 89:8-18) 

Oh my fellow saints, what a magnificent and magnanimous God we serve! A God whose foundation is based on truth, justice and LOVE! And the truth is that I wasn’t planning to include so much of the psalm, possibly just verses 11and 12, but when I read all that beautiful and powerful description about our great God, I just had to include it. (smile) 

And my people, we can never know too much about wonderful God or give Him enough glory. So please, wherever, whenever and however we encounter God’s praises, let’s take serious note of them and file them in our hearts so that later on we can bring them to remembrance and use them for His glory and our praise. That takes us to another great passage of scripture extolling God’s greatness, where Bruh David blesses the Lord, as the Israelites generously made their offerings to build God’s temple. 

Read with me: ‘Wherefore David blessed the Lord before all the congregation: And David said, Blessed be thou, Lord God of Israel our father, for ever and ever. Thine, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all. Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all. Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name.’ (1 Chr. 29:10-13) 

Oh friends, what a powerful exaltation on our wonderful God’s behalf! And the beauty of it all is that Bruh David knew in spades what he was talking about, because all throughout his long, interesting and contrary life, he felt the power of God working in and for him. And the same thing will happen to us if we stand up strong and live for the Lord the way Bruh David did! He wasn’t perfect, but through thick and thin, He made the Lord his constant companion, always seeking His will and His favour. 

And that’s all the Lord asks of us yes: to seek His will and favour. But we’re so rebellious and so intent on doing our own thing because of our free will, that we often stumble and fall, and only then become wise and cry out to the Lord for help. But friends, a lot of those mistakes can be avoided if we wake up and walk with the Lord right from the very beginning. 

But no, we foolishly want to spread our wings and fly in our own strength, forgetting that we’re not birds, who were meant for that purpose. We were made to walk, and the only way we could ever fly, even like the lowly sparrow, much less soar like the mighty eagle, is with the help and strength of Almighty God. Please, let’s remember that when we try to get ahead of ourselves. Much LOVE!

Proverbs 21:13.       Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.

And like this Friday is going to be another day of cloud and heat! So brace yourselves for the heat wave after you’ve joyfully declared (yesss!) ‘TGIF! Thank God it’s Friday, and the weekend is here at last!’ I guess though that many of us won’t care, because we’ll either be ensconced and relaxed in our air-conditioned places or enjoying some outdoor activity where the heat doesn’t bother us. The beaches will probably be packed too, those that aren’t closed because of bacterial infestation. 

But nonetheless, we will get through the day and enjoy doing so, because that’s what our Lord and Saviour Jesus expects of us. Remember, Jesus’ warriors can handle anything that comes against them, because He strengthens us, gives us the wherewithal to overcome whatever threatens our safety. 

And I’m chuckling here, for as usual, on opening the Good Library my eyes were drawn to a very applicable passage for these turbulent times. It opened unto the Book of Proverbs and my eyes were irresistibly drawn to this verse of Cousin Sol’s divine wisdom. ‘Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.’ (Prov. 21:13) 

And is that ever the indisputable truth, for the many who are currently blocking their ears from the cries of the poor will indeed suffer God’s wrath in their own time! That’s because God LOVES the poor and downtrodden, He’s the champion of the underdog, and desires that we help them to the best of our ability. And besides, there’s enough wealth and food in this prosperous world so that there needs not be any truly poor on the face of God’s great earth! 

However, the inequity in the distribution of that wealth and food causes many millions to live and die in extreme poverty. Why is it that when man has become so enlightened in all his ways, that he is still greedy and selfish eh? That his inhumanity to his fellow man still exceeds his LOVE for them? Chuh! I guess only the Lord alone knows yes! And despite all God’s warnings throughout the Good Book about the ill treatment of the poor and lowly, that ungodly, unsavoury behaviour still persists, and in some places is even getting worse. 

From the very beginning God warns in Leviticus: ‘And if a stranger sojourn with thee in your land, ye shall not vex (mistreat) him. But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you (a native), and thou shalt LOVE him as thyself; for ye were strangers in Egypt: I am the Lord.’ (Lev. 19:33-34) The Lord reminds them of their stranger status in Egypt when Jacob and his family first went down there in the famine that drove them from their home in Canaan. 

Then He again proclaims in Leviticus: ‘And when ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not wholly reap the corners of thy field, neither shalt thou gather the gleanings (leftovers) of thy harvest. And thou shalt not glean thy vineyard, neither shalt thou gather every grape of thy vineyard; thou shalt leave them for the poor and stranger: I am the Lord.’ (Lev. 19:9-10) 

And in Deuteronomy He takes it one step further. ‘At the end of three years thou shalt bring forth all the tithe of thine increase the same year, and shalt lay it up (store it) within thy gates. And the Levite, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the Lord thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest.’ (Deut. 14:28-29) 

There it is friends, your work will be blessed if you have compassion on the poor and needy. And Cousin Sol in his amazing wisdom further tells us in Proverbs 19: ‘He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.’ (Prov. 19:17) 

Jesus however puts it in much more blatant and in your face terms when in His talk about separating the sheep from the goats, (Matt. 25) He solemnly declared (awright!!!) ‘And the king shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.’ (Matt. 25:40) That’s how much the Lord cares about the poor and downtrodden my fellow believers. 

And John in his first epistle states it very clearly. ‘But whoso hath this world’s goods, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion) heart from him, how dwelleth the LOVE of God in him?’ (1 John 3:17) The answer is it simply does not! 

It’s like James says when he talks about faith without works. ‘If a brother or sister is naked, and destitute of daily food, and one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body, what doth it profit?’ (James 2:15-19) Absolutely nothing! It will only call down the Lord’s anger and destruction on your head! 

Oh my fellow saints, our world in sad turmoil, and it’s only through divine help can we ever make any positive changes, so please, through our Friday Chant, let’s go the throne of grace right now and seek such help. As one voice! ‘Oh Lord, thanks for getting me safely through this past week. You know it’s been rough… because our many serious problems are escalating instead of improving. And it’s obvious we can’t fix them on our own, so Lord, we’re desperately crying out for your help. 

Oh heavenly Father, with your omnipotent help, and our trusting faith, we know that we can stand strong and steadfast and defeat the simmering unrest in our land. We therefore ask you Lord to give our leaders the wise guidance to handle this unexpected storm properly. And please help the rest of us to be responsible and safe amidst all the anxiety and confusion of these ungodly times. We fervently pray too Lord that you’ll use the discontent and dissatisfaction in our land as a means of restoring faith in you. 

Return backsliders to your fold. Show them the error of their ways. And please introduce a new flock of believers, who will embrace your LOVE and compassion by the example, we, your faithful believers set. So that our sinful world can wake up and smell the coffee, wake up and smell it sweet and strong! We pray this in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! Amen!’ 

Now, before any help from heaven is forthcoming, it’s obvious we first have to make some godly changes! Much LOVE!

Proverbs 22:6.       Train up a child in the way he should go, and (even) when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Well, it rained, or rightly drizzled through most of the night, and therefore Thursday has opened somewhat cloudy but dry. Nonetheless, the computer is giving another ‘HEAT’ warning for today. It’s therefore another day of air conditioners working hard and walking around with your umbrella and hat to protect you from the sun or rain. (smile) In other words, it’s just another day on God’s good earth. So, let’s brighten up and enjoy it, for as the psalmist so rightly said: ‘This is the day the Lord has made, we WILL rejoice and be glad in it.’ (Ps. 118:24) 

Now here’s an interesting poem I recently found while rummaging through some old files on my desk. And I was truly amazed at the amount of stuff I found in them, good, bad and indifferent. I never knew I was such a prolific writer in my earlier days. It might take me another lifetime to go through it all and weed out the wheat from the thrash. (smile) Anyway here’s this most appropriately titled poem, ‘Children Learn What They Live.’ It’s something that parents today so badly need to read, inwardly digest and put into proper action. And, as so often is the case, I don’t know who wrote it, or where I got it from, but it’s certainly a gem of a poem.  

Please read with me. ‘If a child lives with criticism, He learns to condemn. If a child lives with hostility, He learns to fight. If a child lives with shame, He learns to feel guilty. If a child lives with tolerance, He learns to be patient. If a child lives with encouragement, He learns confidence. If a child lives with praise, He learns to appreciate. If a child lives with fairness, He learns justice. If a child lives with security, He learns to have faith. If a child lives with approval, He learns to like himself. If a child lives with acceptance and friendship, He learns to find LOVE in the world.’ 

And isn’t that the awesome truth my fellow believers? It most certainly is! Those are the basics of bringing up a child, which many of our generation didn’t adhere to, and which even more of this current generation are bypassing for many foolish reasons. Then we’re wondering why our children are so unruly, ungodly and prone to such foolish and evil behaviour. And that’s the perfect way to do what Cousin Sol said in Proverbs. ‘Train up a child in the way he should go, and (even) when he is old, he will not depart from it.’ (Prov. 22:6) 

Exactly what we have not been doing with our children, otherwise they would not be the sorry, ungodly, lost lot that they now are, exhibiting the chaotic ways of the world. And believe me, children don’t learn those things they need to make their way successfully in this world in school or at church, but in the HOME! That’s supposed to be the major place of learning God’s moral compass, but unfortunately many parents don’t know it, are too busy or simply don’t care, so it’s left for others to teach our children. 

And if our children don’t have the proper basic foundation, then they will fall for any and everything. And the filth and foolishness that’s floating around out there right now is unbelievable, that’s why they are running from one thing to the next, unable to settle down to any one thing. And we have to take most of the blame for that my fellow parents. Some of us might have figured we grew up too hard, with too little freedom, so we allow our children to do basically what they want. But that tough LOVE of our childhood is exactly what kept us on the straight and narrow, gave us a sense of responsibility. 

What we have to learn is that LOVE doesn’t mean allowing others to have their way, to do whatever they wish, even though it’s wrong. No! LOVE means proper guidance, with godly discipline. And if our children don’t like it, then tough; they can go and find their own place to live and a way to support themselves. The long and short of the situation is that we’ve been too soft and molly-cuddly with our children; trying to be their friends instead of their parents. 

In other words, we have abrogated our parenting responsibility, taken the easy way out, and thus are now paying the price with a generation of unruly, disobedient offspring, who figure they are entitled to do whatever, whenever they so desire. And that’s why there’s so much chaos in our world; a thorough lack of responsibility, that’s led to a time of immense greed and selfishness. Remember, whatever foundation we grow with, that’s what we’ll exhibit in our later lives. Which is one of the reasons why the Lord doesn’t allow us to get away with too much foolishness and disciplines us when we go astray. He knows the downfall of a lack of discipline. 

The Book of Hebrews spells it out for us. ‘And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children (sons), My son, despise not the chastening (discipline) of the Lord, nor faint (be discouraged) when thou art rebuked of him. For whom the Lord LOVETH he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.’ (Heb. 12:5-6) Now that sounds as though it’s so abusive and unfair, but it’s not. And this commentary explains it a tad better than I could. (smile)

The author says: ‘So, my point simply is that God often times leads us into painful situations and orchestrates our lives and imposes upon us difficult circumstances, physical discomfort, financial pressure, and other such hardships to help us grow up in Christ. And these are not expressions of his anger but of his LOVE!’ And that’s the gospel truth friends! If our God didn’t LOVE us, He would just let us do whatever we want and suffer the very serious consequences. Then we would declare (chuh!!!) that He didn’t LOVE us, otherwise He would have stopped us from making those serious mistakes and having to pay the heavy price. 

We can’t have it both ways friends. The Lord is not our doting grandfather, but our exalted God, to whom obedience and respect is required and expected, and there are consequences for the lack thereof. Now, let’s go home declaring (yesss!!!) our Thursday Blessings which the Lord has so generously bestowed on us to do His earthly work. As one strong and sincere voice: ‘I declare that I am blessed with God’s supernatural wisdom and receive clear direction for my life! I declare today that I am blessed with creativity, courage, talent and abundance! 

I am blessed with a strong will, self-control and self-discipline! I am blessed with a great family, good friends, good health, faith, favour and fulfillment! I am blessed with success, supernatural strength, promotion and divine protection! I am blessed with a compassionate heart and a positive outlook on life! I declare that any curse or negative word that’s ever been spoken over me is broken right now in the name of Jesus! I declare that everything I put my hands to, will prosper and succeed! I declare it today and every day! Amen!’ 

And having activated those blessings, we must now go out and use them generously with others, so that they can come to know and LOVE the Lord like we do! Much LOVE!

Acts 1:8b.     … and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

And then it was Wednesday, that restorative, second wind day! And it looks like it’s going to be a hot one in my area, for all my computer says about it is ‘HEAT!’ But whatever comes our way, we’re ready and able for it because we have the ONE and ONLY Jesus in our lives, through whom we can do and face anything! Wow! Which other faith can say that eh? NONE! And that’s why we must be careful to live our lives, without giving the heathen cause to cast nasty and blasphemous aspersions at Christ Jesus, our Lord and Saviour.

Oh, we’ll never live perfect lives, because we’re not perfectly made, and whatever we say or do, somebody will take umbrage at it, and refuse to come to Jesus for the awesome solace and refuge that He provides, but once we can truly say that we’ve tried, we’ve done our best, that’s all Jesus is looking for from us. It’s all in the sincere trying my fellow believers, and sadly that’s exactly where we’re falling down; not enough of us are trying hard enough to spread the good news gospel of Jesus, both in word and deed. 

We’ve gotten so accustomed to the good things and the easy life that our world now provides that we’ve fallen prey to Satan’s deceits and lies and are just resting on our laurels, not making a sincere effort to win souls for Christ. But please, let’s remember that as His followers, we are His face down here on earth, and telling others about Him, and living the way He desires is one of our main responsibilities. We can’t remind us enough of the Great Commission Jesus gave to His disciples before He returned to heaven. 

‘All power (authority) is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach (make disciples of) all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.’ (Matt. 28:18-20) Now friends, that was a very important moment in the annals of our faith, and it’s become even more important today as evil and ungodliness sweep our world. 

And I just LOVE how the scholars explain its importance. ‘The Great Commission brings the first Gospel (that of Matthew) to a grand finale. Christianity is not represented here as the mere reverential devotion of disappointed men who honour their martyred leader. Here is a far different scene. The triumphant, living Lord sends forth His ambassadors to proclaim His gospel throughout all the world. The Great commission is not just and order but a pronouncement of victory by the risen Saviour through His disciples. All power or authority is now in the hands of Christ, in heaven and on earth. On the basis of that power and authority the Christian disciple is to carry out the Great Commission of the church.’ 

Wow! And it was so important that Christ reiterated it just before His ascension when He instructed the disciples to remain in Jerusalem: ‘But ye shall receive power, after (when) the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.’ (Acts 1:8) 

And now I hope we all see the great importance of our position as followers, ambassadors and agents of Christ on this evil earth! It’s not a request of Jesus, but an order that we get out into the world and teach others about Him and all the good and wonderful news He’s brought to mankind. That is, if we are His sincere followers. And I can’t help but say this because it’s true; not enough of us are making a sincere effort to follow the directives of Christ’s order. 

Yes, it is not always easy to live the way He desires, and sometimes it will call for some sacrifice, but look at how Christ sacrificed His sinless life for our sinful ones nuh, just think about all the ‘sufferation’ He bore for us, what’s a li’l pain here and there for Him eh? We should be glad to bear a li’l pain in His name, for that’s when we grow in Christian maturity. We don’t grow when times are good, only when they are tough. 

But how many of us are truly interested in growing in Christian maturity eh, especially when it takes some pain? Not very many. We all talk a good talk, but when it comes time to walk that talk, it’s a horse of a different colour, we’re not so mouthy and brave then. But yuh know what, many of us see the Christian life through rose-coloured glasses, all joy and gladness, salvation and everlasting life, and because Jesus LOVES us so much, He won’t cause us any pain. 

However, that’s a sad and sorrowful approach to Christianity, for remember Jesus’ requirements for being His disciple. ‘If any man will (desires to) come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.’ (Luke 9:23) That means that Christianity is not always wine and roses, or a Sunday walk in the park, but very often it’s tough sledding against a persistent and evil enemy called Satan, who is trying to undo all the good that Christ has done! 

Oh my people, I do hope that I’m making some headway in convincing us of the great importance of our talk and behaviour as disciples of Christ. Remember we are all the unbelievers might ever see of him, and if we don’t reflect and mirror Him properly, then they will just turn away from His wonderful invitation. Now we don’t want to be responsible for people turning away from Christ, but for them turning to Him. So please, let’s wake up nuh man, time is running out, every day we’re a day closer to death and to Christ’s return and we need to make hay while the sun still shines, to get out into harvest and reap the great harvest of unbelievers that are there to be reaped. That’s our bounden duty! 

And for those of us who are trying our best to do just that, let’s go home declaring (yesss!) our Wednesday Wail letting the whole world know of our wonderful position in Christ Jesus! Altogether now! ‘Wednesday, Wednesday, Wednesday: I’m so glad to be alive on this Wednesday! Wednesday, Wednesday, Wednesday: Thank God the breath of life is still flowing through me on this Wednesday! I am halfway home. My hands are fixed securely on the plough, and I’m not turning back. I’m not looking back at the past, not focusing on what has gone before. But my eyes are fixed straight ahead; straight ahead to a glorious future with Jesus. Glory Hallelujah!’ 

Then there’s this added bonus. (smile) If we endure to the end with Jesus, then that future will be even more glorious than we can ever ask or imagine! Wow! Hope to see you at the end enjoying that even more glorious future! Much LOVE!

…working for Jesus carries many responsibilities…but the rewards are very worthwhile…

Matthew 13:57b.       A prophet is not without honour, save (except) in his own country, and in his own house.

Well Tuesday doesn’t seem like it’s going to be much different weather wise than Monday was; somewhat cloudy with li’l sprinkles of rain, here and there, then the sun coming out for a while. And you know, not even the rain falls like it used to, we now get mostly drizzles, not full showers of heavenly blessings. But I guess we should be very thankful that’s all we get because some places are getting way too much resulting in terrible floods, while others are getting no rain at all and experiencing terrible drought. And everybody’s getting heat waves that are becoming record temperatures. 

That’s 2023 for you! A year of severe weather fluctuations! And although the weather changes make life somewhat uncertain and inconvenient, we’re not worried, because we have Jesus, the great weather controller, on our side. And all God’s people declared (yesss!!!): ‘Praise the name of Jesus!’ We also have the awesome privilege and power of prayer that takes us straight to the throne of grace and mercy as true believers in Christ. So, let’s use some of our prayer power right now nuh. It’s the prayer found in the July edition of the In Touch Devotional. 

Please pray with me. ‘Lord, help me to know You in a fresh way – to see you with renewed perspective. Forgive me for letting familiarity with You lead to being complacent about walking with You. Forgive me for mistaking my own lack – my dissatisfied and distracted mind – for a lack in You. Help me now to let go of any expectations, habits, or routines, that make my heart wander from You, my true home. Help me now to notice again the way You surprise me with the grace of your attention and care. Kindly dismantle whatever limits I’ve placed on You and open my eyes to see You as You truly are. Amen!’ 

Wow! What a timely prayer my people! I don’t know about you, but I see some of myself in there, that I never saw the first time I read it. The part where we get complacent about our walk with God. I think that stems from our maturity. The more we mature, the more we take things for granted, and lose the sense of wonder and openness the new believer has on beginning their walk with Christ. We behave as though God is an old friend and we can take some liberties like we do with our old human friends. 

But though God welcomes our friendship, we still need to know our place; He is indeed Father and Friend, but He is also Almighty God, and thus deserves a tad more reverence than we sometimes give Him. And the lackadaisical attitude we sometimes adopt because of our familiarity poisons and retards our advancement in the things of God.  So what does it mean to be too familiar with God eh? let’s look at some commentaries and scriptures on the subject. 

This first commentary explains it thus: ‘It means that God has met you by grace. It means that he has opened the eyes of your heart to what, without him, you would not see or understand. He has drawn you close to his side. But familiarity often does bad things to us. Often when we become familiar with things, we begin to take them for granted.’ And isn’t that the awesome truth! This commentary further explains: ‘Familiarity is used especially in the expression familiarity breeds contempt to say that if you know a person or situation very well, you can easily lose respect for that person or become careless in that situation.’ 

And don’t we always do that! We tend to get careless with our good friends, more than we do with our new associates or acquaintances. And it’s fairly easy to do that with God when we reach a certain level of maturity. The scriptures tell us that ‘God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and truth.’ (John 4:24) That means whatever we do with or for God must be done with a right heart, and not in a wishy-washy, complacent manner. And there’s a good example of that found in the Book of Malachi, chapter 1, re the Israelites not taking God seriously. 

The priests were dishonouring God by not doing their duties in the temple, offering polluted bread, offering the blind for sacrifice, etc. Meanwhile, the people were giving blemished offerings in a half-hearted manner. God chastised them for profaning His name. ‘But ye have profaned it, in that ye say, The table of the Lord is polluted (defiled); and the fruit thereof, even his meat (its food) is contemptible. Ye said also, Behold, what a weariness is it! and ye have snuffed (sneered) at it, saith the Lord of hosts; and ye have brought that which was torn (stolen), and the lame, and the sick; thus ye brought an offering: should I accept this of your hand? saith the Lord.’ (Mal. 1:12-13) 

Obviously not! One commentary explains Israel’s behaviour this way. ‘The offerings Israel made at this time were not done with a right heart. They were becoming indifferent toward God and the way they conducted their lives. They were treating the commands of God with familiarity and carelessness. They came to look upon them as simply ordinary. Thus, He says that He has no pleasure in Israel and would not accept their offerings.’ And one of the best examples of that familiarity breeding contempt is Jesus’ return to His hometown of Nazareth. 

‘And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works? Is not this the carpenter’s son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? And his sisters, are they not all with us? when then hath this man all these things? And they were offended in (at) him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save (except) in his own country, and in his own house. And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.’ (Matt. 13:54-58) 

And that’s how it is my people, we don’t give those close to us the honour or notice they really deserve because we feel our knowing them doesn’t call for any hero-worship on our part. But the truth is that heroes desire, place a higher value on the hero-worship of those close to them, than on the general public. And nothing breaks their hearts like when their own families and friends just pass them off as nothing important. 

And we’ll end with a test. Please read this commentary with me. ‘Have I become too familiar with God? Do I treat Holy Things as Holy? Do I still believe in the power of prayers or am I just praying for the fun of it? Do I still have the fear of God in me? Do I invite visitors to my church only for the visitors (non-believers) to be the ones telling me to keep quiet in church? Am I hooked in a sinful life all because I take God for granted? Do I value the Bible or treat it as just one of those books?’ 

Please take a few moments and consider how those words shape up in our own lives nuh Are we over-familiar with God, take Him too much for granted? And if so, let’s make any corrections that are necessary. (smile) Now it’s time go home declaring (awright!!!) our Tuesday Mantra, letting all and sundry know to whom we belong, lock, stock and barrel, bought for a huge price by the precious blood of Jesus. 

As one voice: ‘In God’s eyes, I’m not what I do. I’m not what I have. I’m not what people say about me. I am the beloved of God, that’s who I am. No one can take that from me. I don’t have to worry. I don’t have to hurry. I can trust my friend Jesus and share His LOVE with my immediate neighbours, as well as with the whole wide world! Glory be!’ 

That means we must now go out and share the awesome friendship and LOVE of Jesus with others. so that they too can come to know and LOVE Him like we do! Much LOVE!

…God is indeed our friend…but first and foremost He is God…and must always be treated as such…

Proverbs 14:34.        Righteousness exalteth a nation, but sin is a reproach (shame) to any people.

Prologue: Yes, it is late and long, but it’s certainly worthwhile reading and putting into immediate action. (smile) 

Aye Monday, come on down, we’re ready for you. We believers in Christ Jesus are no longer afraid of you and your evil patron, Satan, who try to frighten us into having bad Mondays and not witness properly for our Lord and Saviour. But all of that is over now, because we’re getting rid of our fear of Mondays, and instead ramping up our faith, so that we will not be ashamed of the fearful and ungodly way we behave on Mondays. We’re totally embracing the scripture that says: ‘The Lord has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, of LOVE and a sound (disciplined) mind.’ (2 Tim. 1:7) 

We’ve talked it for a long time, but now we’re finally putting it into action, beginning with our fear and resentment of Mondays! So, you and your evil buddy, Beelzebub, can try all you want to intimidate us, but it won’t work any longer, because we’ve finally seen the light, the awesome light that is our Leader, Jesus Christ of Nazareth! And all God’s people said a loud and grateful ‘Amen!’ 

Now friends, please don’t make me a liar, or a laughingstock after I’ve put myself on the line. Let’s go out this Monday with plenty vim and vigour, confident that we can make a positive difference in this disaster-filled world. And is it ever filled with natural disasters; droughts, famine, earthquakes, forest fires, floods, pestilences, severe heat waves, like many of us have never seen before, volcano eruptions, you name it, our world is filled with it. 

And we now blame climate change for almost everything that happens to us, and some of it is indeed attributable to changing weather patterns, because we have over the years screwed up the fine balance of the Lord’s system, but what about our own sinful and ungodly behaviour eh? Don’t we think that the rampant, runaway sin that’s currently permeating our world possibly has something to do with the disastrous situations that we’re facing on all corners of the globe. 

We have obviously forgotten these wise words of Cousin Sol in Proverbs: ‘Righteousness exalteth a nation, but sin is a reproach (shame) to any people.’ (Prov. 14:34) And he’s not referring to individual righteousness there, but to a nation that adheres to God’s righteous standards as found in His moral law. And this commentary explains: ‘That means that we can declare if we are doing what Jesus told us to do, if we’re acting like Him, LOVING like Him, forgiving like Him, and boldly declaring God’s Word, then we are righteous. If all believers across the world just simply acted like Jesus, then the nation that they live in will be changed.’ 

And, unfortunately, I don’t know of any nation to which that designation can now be applied, for man’s inhumanity to man has skyrocketed way out of all reasonable proportions. Everywhere you turn is either wars or rumours of war, hate and anger abound, with strife from the highest echelons of the society to the lowest. Dire poverty and economic deprivation are widespread in a world of plenty, sickness is endemic in a world that has taken enormous strides in medicine and technological advancements. 

But the power elite still control most of the earth’s wealth and power, and the rich are getting richer while the poor are indeed getting poorer. And you can classify it as a cliché, and it might be trite or somewhat overused, but it’s still true. Meanwhile racism and religious intolerance and nationalism are on the uptake, bringing with it much despotic and dictatorial rule. What a foolish lot we are to be continually falling for the glib promises, or rather lies, of our politicians, who are only interested in their own aggrandizement. Where will it end eh? 

Remember friends, sin, the original sin of our forefathers Adam and Eve, is what began us down the deadly path on which we’re currently trodding. And what the Lord said through the prophet Ezekiel still stands: ‘The soul that sinneth. It shall die….But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live and not die.’ (Ezek. 18:20a, 21) 

And despite the Lord in His grace, mercy and LOVING-kindness  providing a way out of it for us. That’s through believing in His Son Jesus Christ who came to earth and sacrificed His sinless life so our sins could be paid for, we are still mired very deeply in sin. Bruh Paul writes to the church at Corinth: ‘For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.’ (2 Cor. 1:21). 

That certainly hasn’t done us much good, for there are few places in our world right now where serious strife isn’t taking place or being fomented. We all seem to be unhappy about something, and instead of trying to work it out peacefully with our neighbours, like the Bible wisely advises, the trend is to escalate the situation. Chuh! What a foolish animal is mankind! He can’t see the forest for the trees, and every move he makes, just seems to make matters worse, because selfishness and greed are so prevalent. It’s all about me, myself and I, for those who still use those pronouns. 

These are the words we ought to live by: ‘Recompense (repay) to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest (have regard for good things) in the sight of all men. If it be possible, as much as lieth in (depends on) you, live peacefully with all men… Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.’ (Rom. 12:17-18, 21) 

And I know to some of us, that might sound rather simplistic, but friends, the truth is usually simple, it’s we who tend to make it complex, because we wrongly belief that simplicity is not powerful enough for us to live on. But it surely is. Just look at how Leader, Jesus Christ lived down here on earth nuh; it was a quiet, simple but powerful and difference-making life, an example that we His sincere believers ought to follow, instead of the noise, the clamour. strife and complexity that the enemy is gladly feeding into our lives, and we are foolishly sucking up. 

Oh my fellow saints, remember we are the salt of the earth and the light of the world, that means we ought to be setting the example for the world, so that they can see Jesus mirrored in our words and actions. So please, please, I plead with us that from today, from this time henceforth we WILL fully embrace the example of Jesus and let our salt and light shine forth and reinvigorate our badly damaged world, so we can begin to heal it. That’s all Jesus is asking of us. Now, let’s lift our heads, hands, hearts and eyes heavenward, and through our Monday Morning battle Hymn, invoke the divine help of our heavenly Father. 

As one sincere voice: ‘Our Father, who art in heaven, we, Your humble servants, praise Your Holy Name and thank You this Monday morning for life and strong faith in Christ, despite the mass confusion in our world. Heavenly Father, You are the ONLY ONE with the power to solve our many problems. Yes, we have all sinned and seriously disobeyed Your Word, but You are a merciful, forgiving and gracious God, who has faithfully promised to hear and answer our prayers when we humble ourselves, pray, and sincerely seek Your face. 

So, we come to You now, with sincere repentance in our hearts, pleading for wise guidance and direction to alleviate our problems. Oh Father, please ease the pain of the many suffering from negative situations, show them Your awesome grace and mercy. And faithfully keep Your promise to prosper us if we turn from our evil ways. Show this evil world that You are indeed Jehovah Rapha; the God who heals! We pray this in the holy and blessed name of Your Son, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! Amen! And again, we say: Amen!’ 

And having made all those requests, it now behooves us to change our evil ways, and live a godly and righteous life, if we truly desire to see heavenly help. Much LOVE!

…sin is what drives us away from God…but when it overwhelms us…it’s also what points us back…to the everlasting arms of God…
