The Overwhelming Importance of Sincerely Trusting and Surrendering to Almighty God if You desire a Golden Autumn Life!

Today’s Scrip-Bit   22 October 2026   Psalm 31:14-15a.

Psalm 31:14-15a.        But I trusted in thee, O Lord: I said, Thou art my God. My times are in thy hand:

Ah friends, it’s another beautiful autumn day in my neck of the woods, and we’re very thankful for it, but the truth is we’re on a real late bus this Thursday afternoon, because the ole fella wasn’t feeling up to scratch earlier today, and thus lay in bed longer than usual. However, we cannot afford to allow a little thing like not feeling well to stop the Lord’s work, so here we are, ready and able to write the Bit, with God’s help obviously. (smile) But enough excuses, let’s see what the Lord desires us to talk about on this penultimate day of our work week.

And here’s a most appropriate poem for the season, especially a fine day like today, from our One Year Book of Bible Promises, with writings by Ruth Harms Calkin. It’s short and simply titled ‘Autumn Glow.’ So, please pray with me: ‘Lord, if You will make The autumn of my life As LOVELY as this Golden autumn morning I will not look back to grieve The passing days of summer. Of all the regal seasons Autumn is most brilliant. Make my life brilliant, too!’ Oh my people, that’s certainly a beautiful prayer; short and right to the point; a golden autumn of our lives!

And since many of us are definitely in that season of life, it’s rather appropriate for us. Sometimes too, as we get older and closer to heaven, (smile) we wish for the good old days of the summer of our lives, when we were busy and very active, not like now when many of us are not very mobile and are also losing our memory. It would definitely be great to enjoy a golden autumn lifestyle as the winter cold creeps up on us. And if that can happen, as the poem indicates, we won’t grieve those good old days of summers past.

Now that doesn’t mean we cannot recall the memories we made back then, for that’s what memories are there for; to be recalled at later dates. And as the song so rightly says: ‘Memories don’t leave like people do, they always stay with you. Whether they’ve been good or bad, They’re never something that you had…’ And now, in this golden autumn of our lives is when we need to look back at the memories we made and appreciate them, both the good and the bad, because they are the moments that shaped our lives and brought us to where we are now.

And is it ever good to sit quietly in our rocking chairs and just reminisce; letting whatever memory just float into our minds. And yes, there are some memories that we all surely wish to forget, but let’s acknowledge that those bad ones also helped to shape our lives and livelihood, so although they might not be pleasant, we ought to be able to look back on them without too much distaste, because they are a part of our overall story.

And as the poem says, ‘Of all the regal seasons Autumn is most brilliant.’ That’s certainly true! With all the variety of colours, autumn is indeed the brightest and most colourful; the Lord didn’t hold back any of the colours at his command; just proudly displayed them with artistic brilliance. That brings us to main point of the poem; our desiring to have the Lord also make our lives brilliant like the autumn season. Now that’s no problem for our mighty God, because we know nothing is impossible for Him, but it does entail certain things and conditions on our part before it can happen.

And what’s that, you ask? It’s like the Bible verses from the poem declare: ‘But I trusted in thee, O Lord: I said, Thou art my God. My times are in thy hand:’ (Ps. 31:14-15a) Yes my faithful brethren, for our lives to become a golden autumn season, we need to put our trust completely in the God of our forefathers; surrender our lives completely to the God of Abrahm Isaac and Jacob. As Bruh David says, place our times, our lives in His awesome, miraculous hands. Only then can the Lord fashion our lives as a golden autumn season.

The artist must have total control of the painting if we want to see the outcome we truly desire. And that’s how it is with our God; if we don’t allow Him to control it all, He cannot make the masterpiece we desire. And surrendering our all to Him is not such a big thing to do, once we know who He truly is, and what He desires of us. As John so rightly says in his first epistle: ‘For this is the LOVE of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous (burdensome.)’ (1 John 5:3)

And the Lord makes that even easier to do by generously bestowing undeserved blessings on us to help do His earthly work. We call them our Thursday Blessings! So let’s declare and thus activate them right now, because a blessing is only a blessing when it’s been spoken. With one strong and sincere voice: ‘I declare that I am blessed with God’s supernatural wisdom and receive clear direction for my life! I declare today that I am blessed with creativity, courage, talent and abundance!

I am blessed with a strong will, self-control and self-discipline! I am blessed with a great family, good friends, good health, faith, favour and fulfillment! I am blessed with success, supernatural strength, promotion and divine protection! I am blessed with a compassionate heart and a positive outlook on life! I declare that any curse or negative word that’s ever been spoken over me is broken right now in the name of Jesus! I declare that everything I put my hands to, will prosper and succeed! I declare it today and every day! Amen!’

And having made that declaration, we’re now expected to go out and generously use those blessings to help others, so that they too can come to know and LOVE Christ like we do! Much LOVE!

…we cannot ask God to brilliantly shape our lives…unless we also bring our trust and surrender to the table…

The Overwhelming Importance of Thanksgiving and Praise in the Christian’s Daily Walk with God!

Today’s Scrip-Bit   9 October 2026   Psalm 69:30.

Psalm 69:30.        I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.

Oh my people, it’s another beautiful, sunshiny autumn day in my neighbourhood, though with seemingly a little less heat from the sun, (smile) possibly caused by the strong wind that’s again cavorting through the area. But surprisingly, I just watched some tall trees in my neighbour’s backyard caught up in an exhilarating dance with the wind, however they endured it quite well, with no leaves dropping off in the crazy moments of the dance. The trees stood resilient, like we believers in Christ ought to stand when strong provocation and temptation from the enemy comes our way.

And is this kind of weather ever so welcome as we celebrate our Canadian Thanksgiving weekend. Yes, this is the big weekend of thanks in our wonderful country of Canada. We’re not perfect, possibly as good as some, but certainly better than many. No wonder our Friday Mantra blossomed like it did up to heaven earlier this morning. ‘TGIF! Thank God it’s Friday, and the weekend is here at long last!’ And a long weekend to boot! So you know the busyness that’s taking place in preparation for all the upcoming celebrations. And I would be amiss if I didn’t warn us to be careful in those celebrations, don’t let our hair down too much, because that’s when serious problems occur. End of sermon! (smile)

Now what does the Lord want us to talk about today? Well the Good Book opened at Psalm 69, Bruh David’s cry for help: ‘Save me, O God; for the waters are come in unto my soul (neck). I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me. I am weary of my crying: my throat is dried: mine eyes fail while I wait for my God.’ (Ps. 69:1-3) Yes my fellow believers, many of us are now in a situation like Bruh David was back then, but we won’t concentrate our hurts today, no, not on this Thanksgiving weekend.

Instead, we’ll go to the end of the psalm where Bruh David, despite his sad and sorry state, decides to offer thanksgiving and praise to our great God. He solemnly declares: ‘But I am poor and sorrowful: let thy salvation, O God, set me up on high. I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving. This also shall please the Lord better than an ox or bullock that hath horns and hoofs. The humble shall see this and be glad: and your heart shall live that seek God.

For the Lord heareth the poor, and despiseth not his prisoners. Let the heaven and earth praise him, the seas, and every thing that moveth therein. For God will save Zion, and will build the cities of Judah: that they may dwell there, and have it in possession. The seed  (descendants) also of his servants shall inherit it: and they that LOVE his name shall dwell therein.’ (Ps. 69: 29-36)

Yes friends, though we are neck deep in problems, we must never forget our great God who gives us life and health and the many other benefits we enjoy, and who oftentimes is the only One who can solve our problems. Thus, thanks and praise are necessary requirements of our daily walk with Christ. And on this Thanksgiving weekend when the world is in such a topsy-turvy state, with strife, hate and anger being so prevalent, it’s of the utmost importance that we give thanks and praise to our Creator. It’s like the prophet Isaiah said so long ago to his people Israel. ‘Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains: for the Lord hath comforted his people, and will have mercy on the afflicted.’ (Is. 49:13)

And that’s the gospel truth my faithful brethren! Our God will indeed be merciful and comfort us in time of need, because, as Bruh Paul writes to the Corinthians in his second letter. ‘Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble (tribulation), by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.’ (2 Cor. 1:3-4) Meaning that God is not only merciful, but also comforts us, and furthermore, enables us to comfort others with that same comfort He bestows on us. So we’re never really short of mercy or comfort.

And, as Peter in his wisdom reminds us: ‘Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively (living) hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. To an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you. Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.’ (1 Pet. 1:3-5) That means, though we suffer tribulation in this evil and ungodly world, we’re covered on all sides by our wonderful God, and there’s no need to worry, but let our faith keep us strong.

And for divine aid to do that, let’s go confidently, but humbly to the throne of grace. Altogether: ‘Oh Lord, thanks for getting me safely through another week of work. It hasn’t been easy, but with your generous help, I made it through. You know our many serious problems are escalating instead of improving, and we desperately need your help to fix them. Heavenly Father, with your omnipotent help, and our trusting faith, we know that we can stand strong and steadfast and defeat the simmering unrest in our land. So please give our leaders the wise guidance to handle these unexpected storms properly.

And despite the anxiety and confusion of these ungodly times, help us to be responsible, and get sufficient fun, fellowship, rest and relaxation in these two short days off, so that we can be renewed and refreshed in soul, body and mind, to go back out next week and further your glorious kingdom by the good example we, your faithful believers set. So that our sinful world can wake up and smell the coffee, wake up and smell it sweet and strong! We pray this in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! Amen!’

Now, let’s remember that it’s not only the ungodly who need to wake up and smell the coffee, but also we underperforming, too comfortable Christians! Much LOVE!

…thanks and praise are essential…in our walk with God…
