The Necessity for Christians to Understand the Great Importance of Their Role in the Carrying out the Great Commission!

Today’s Scrip-Bit   26 August 2026   2 Timothy 2:3.

2 Timothy 2:3.        Thou therefore endure hardness (hardship) as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

And all the people joyfully shouted: ‘Let the Lord be praised for allowing us to see another beautiful summer’s day on His marvelous planet Earth!’ Yes friends, this last Wednesday in August is turning out to be another glorious day. And since we don’t know how many more of them we might have, because the days sure are slipping by quickly, it’s imperative that we make good use of today, by catching our second wind and continuing to do good work for Jesus. It’s like Bruh Paul admonished Timothy in his second letter about preaching the word.

‘I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick (living) and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant (ready) in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.’ (2 Tim. 4:1-4)

And what does all of that mean? The scholars explain it thus: As per ‘Preach the word: Preaching is the God-ordained means to prevent defection from the truth. Teachers who appeal to itching ears tell people what they WANT to hear, not what they NEED to hear. Thus both shall be turned unto fables (myths or legends).’ And all of that is very prevalent today my brethren. People don’t want to hear about turning away from their sinful behaviour, but instead want to white wash it, and unfortunately there are a lot of preachers who are quite willing to do that, if it will increase their congregation and their finances.

Unfortunately, in today’s new world, the main focus behind many churches is increasing the congregation and thus their finances, rather than the true preaching and spreading of God’s Word. That’s why Bruh Paul further admonished Timothy: ‘But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.’ (2 Tim. 4:5) And the scholars tell us, as per ‘Do the work of an evangelist: Paul commands Timothy to fully discharge his evangelistic ministry by preaching the gospel (Good News) of Jesus Christ. Evangelism is viewed by the New Testament writers as an essential task of the New Testament church.’

And so it ought to be, because that’s what Jesus decreed in the Great Commission. ‘All power (authority) is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach (make disciples of) all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.’ (Matt. 28:18-20)

And I like how the scholars describe that passage. ‘The Great Commission brings the first Gospel to its grand finale. Christianity is not represented here as the mere reverential devotion of disappointed men who honour their martyred leader. Here is a far different scene. The triumphant, living Lord sends forth His ambassadors to proclaim His gospel throughout all the world. The Great Commission is not just an order but a pronouncement of victory by the risen Saviour through His disciples. All power or authority is now in the hands of Christ, in heaven and on earth. On the basis of that authority and power the Christian disciple is to carry out the Great Commission of the church.’

Wow! Yes mih bredrin, the Great Commission is not merely a simple order, but a pronouncement. And what’s a pronouncement? This overview explains it thus: ‘A pronouncement is a formal, official, or authoritative statement made by someone in charge. It is an explicit declaration that often carries a sense of finality, judgment, or expert opinion.’ So that pronouncement of the Great Commission is an authoritative declaration, decree or edict, of the All Powerful Lord and Living Saviour, Jesus Christ! Therefore it must be carried out in good time, with diligence, excellence and perseverance.

That’s why Bruh Paul earlier exhorted Timothy: ‘Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. Thou therefore endure hardness (hardship) as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. And if a man also strive for masteries (competes in athletics), yet is he not crowned, except he strive (competes) lawfully. The husbandman (farmer) that laboureth must be the first partaker of the fruits (crops). Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.’ (2 Tim. 2:1-7)

And do we all ever need God to give us understanding in all things, especially in these trying and unpredictable times! (smile) But here’s what the scholars say about that passage. ‘Paul warns Timothy of the difficulties of the ministry and urges him to be strong, in contrast to those who defected. Faithful men were to be selected and trained to be leaders and teachers. Thus, personal discipleship was to be avital part of Timothy’s leadership. Endure hardness (suffer affliction): Paul illustrates this truth by a soldier, an athlete, and a farmer, all of whom suffer privation (loss of basic necessities) in order to be rewarded. Strive lawfully means to play by the rules.’  

And unfortunately all of that stuff up there also applies to every Christian, not only preachers, because each of us has a ministry, in which we must stay faithful, sacrifice and endure tough times, while playing by the rules. Let me tell you, that’s easier said than done, but as true disciples of Christ, who are seriously and sincerely interested in spreading His Good News gospel, we will step up to the plate and make the effort! Praise the Lord! Now let’s go home declaring our Wednesday Wail, letting the whole world know of our wonderful position in Christ Jesus.

As one strong and sincere voice: ‘Wednesday, Wednesday, Wednesday: I’m so glad to be alive on this Wednesday! Wednesday, Wednesday, Wednesday: Thank God the breath of life is still flowing through me on this Wednesday! I am halfway home. My hands are fixed securely on the plough, and I’m not turning back. I’m not looking back at the past, not focusing on what has gone before. But my eyes are fixed straight ahead; straight ahead to a glorious future with Jesus. Glory Hallelujah!’ 

And if we endure with Christ to the very end, then we will experience such a glorious future, one that our minds cannot imagine or comprehend! So let’s be wise and endure to the end nuh, so that we can enjoy that more than glorious future together! Much LOVE!

Today’s Scrip-Bit   1 July 2026   Matthew 28:19.

Matthew 28:19.        Go ye therefore, and teach (make disciples of) all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

HAPPY CANADA DAY!

And a Happy Canada Day to all you wonderful folks in this good and godly land! It’s Wednesday and a very hot day like yesterday with a heat warning in effect. So please be careful, stay out of the sun, and stay hydrated, and as always, go easy on the celebrating, or have a modicum of circumspection, as Jeeves would probably say, (smile) for tomorrow is a working day.

Anyway, Today we’re celebrating our country’s birthday; 159 years of Independence, or Canadian Confederation, when on July 1 1867 the Constitution Act united three separate British colonies—Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Province of Canada (now Ontario and Quebec)—into a single, unified country called the Dominion of Canada.  The holiday marks the creation of Canada as a self-governing nation. It was originally known as “Dominion Day” and was officially renamed Canada Day in 1982, the same year the country gained full independence and patriated its constitution from Britain.

So here we are a century and a half later, going strong, one of the best big countries in this evil and strife filled world. Oh, we‘re not perfect, far from it, but we seem to do things in a somewhat different manner; more welcoming than most countries, and certainly not as oppressive and greedy as so many others are today. But we do have our problems, our differences, which right now are coming to the fore, the most important being that of two provinces desiring to secede from the union. But that is so foolish, for we have grown strong together and any secession will only weaken both the whole and the ones who become separate.

The saying that in unity is strength wasn’t just made up by some crazy philosopher, but has been proven down through the years. No one province has the ability to go it alone in today’s world and be successful. Just look at how Britain is suffering after leaving the European Union. And the problem with secession is that the ones who want to separate, want to do their own thing, but still enjoy benefits from the larger group. And when we should be concentrating on coming together to stand strong against the world, the infighting between the provinces only weakens us, diminishing the success we can achieve as one.

Hopefully though, saner minds will prevail and we’ll continue to be one united, strong, growing and godly country. Yes friends, we have to be filled with hope and faith, because we don’t want our country to become like the church, divided into numerous selfish and unreasonable factions and thus weaker than ever. That’s one of the major reasons why our world is so strife filled and evil; Christ’s church is not unified and focused enough on doing His work, so Satan is thus having a field day, working his evil deeds without much opposition.

And until those who claim to be a part of Christ’s church decide to give up their petty differences and come together to fight the battle they are supposed to be fighting, Satan will continue running amok in the world. Jesus gave His church one big duty to perform in the Great Commission. ‘All power (authority) is given unto me in heaven and in the earth. Go ye therefore, and teach (make disciples of) all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the world.’ (Matt, 28:18-20)

Now are we doing what Jesus asked of us? Certainly not to the extent that it’s making a serious difference, otherwise our world would not be so divided, hateful, angry and evil. And we will never be able to do a good enough job for Christ when all the different factions of the church are doing their own thing, which also includes doing nothing to further God’s kingdom. Now that’s the overall purpose we’re to fulfill, but Jesus also gave some smaller directions as to how we can fulfill that purpose.

The first one deals with being a true disciple. ‘And he said to them all, If any man will (desires to) come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.’ (Luke 9:23) How many of us are truly doing that eh mih people? Certainly not enough to make a sufficient difference, especially in this age of wealth, comfort and entitlement. Very few of us want to sacrifice our own desires, when it means disturbing our comfortable lives.

And what about these other directives from Jesus eh? ‘Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour (flavour), wherewith (by what) shall it be salted? it is henceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden underfoot of men.’ (Matt. 5:14) Sadly friends, it must be said that too many of us seem to have lost our salty flavour and are now good for nothing!

For there are definitely too many sad and downtrodden Christians, who obviously are not what Jesus says about them: ‘Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle (lamp), and put it under a bushel (basket), but on a candlestick (lampstand); and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.’ (Matt. 5:14-16) Again, that’s another area in which we’re sadly deficient.

And how did Jesus put it in John’s gospel? ‘A new commandment I give unto you, That ye LOVE one another; as I have LOVED you, that ye also LOVE one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have LOVE one to another.’ (John 13;34-35)  Hn! That’s certainly not happening enough even in individual churches, much less in the overall church. So my brethren, it’s plain to see why Satan is having such a wonderful time in the world. Jesus’ people are not putting up a strong enough fight that will make a difference. And until we come together and do as Jesus desires, Satan will continue to rampage through our world. End of sermon.

Now let’s go home declaring our Wednesday Wail, letting the world know of our wonderful position in Christ Jesus! As one strong and sincere voice: ‘Wednesday, Wednesday, Wednesday: I’m so glad to be alive on this Wednesday! Wednesday, Wednesday, Wednesday: Thank God the breath of life is still flowing through me on this Wednesday! I am halfway home. My hands are fixed securely on the plough, and I’m not turning back. I’m not looking back at the past, not focusing on what has gone before. But my eyes are fixed straight ahead; straight ahead to a glorious future with Jesus. Glory Hallelujah!’ 

It’s also been promised that all those who endure to the end, will enjoy an even more glorious future; one that our puny minds cannot comprehend or even imagine. so let’s be wise and endure to the very end nuh, so that we can share that more than glorious future together! Much LOVE!

The Overwhelming Importance of Christians Sincerely Living for Christ, and Boldly Speaking His Word in These Turbulent Times!

Acts 4:31b.       and they spake the word of God with boldness.

Oh friends, it’s Tuesday! Monday’s over and done with; caught up in the annals of history, and Tuesday has replaced it, though with a somewhat chilly and cloudy look. It’s therefore our duty to pay serious attention to it, to cherish and appreciate it like the present from God that it is! So let’s declare and put into action this wise and wonderful advice from the Bible: ‘This is the day the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.’  (Ps. 118:24) And we can never go wrong by doing that, because each new day is a special gift from God to those whom He keeps alive, and there’s a special purpose for Him doing that.

For as the prophet Jeremiah so wisely acknowledges in his Lamentations: ‘It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.’ (Lam. 3:22-23) And that’s the gospel truth for God’s mercies are new every day. As Jesus prayed; ‘Give us this day our daily bread.’ (Matt. 6:11) For the Lord only gives us enough to handle each new day, as our finite souls and spirits cannot handle much more than that.

However, despite only receiving enough compassion, LOVE, peace etc. for one day at a time, His glorious purpose(s) for keeping us alive is (are) deeply embedded, deeply rooted in our hearts. And today we’ll discuss one of those most important purposes that God’s set in our lives; it’s called Boldness.  And we’ll get the basics of that from one of the Praying with Purpose Prayer cards that the In Touch Organization published last year.

So please pray with me: ‘Lord Jesus, I’m so grateful for the gift of salvation. Please make me bold to share the gospel with others openly and fearlessly. I want everyone to know You and Your name to be lifted up. Lead me into situations where I can tell others about You through the power of Your Holy Spirit. May your words abide in me so I speak the truth of Scripture without compromise. Thank You for Your precious Word which contains the path of life. Amen.’

Now, we have to be careful when we pray a prayer like that, for the Lord will take us at our word and begin bringing situations in our paths to do so. However, they might not all be easy or fortunate circumstances. Like Bruh Paul, we could face many difficult and dangerous times in sharing God’s Word. But sharing God’s word with boldness and without compromise is of the utmost necessity.

Remember what Jesus said to the disciples and consequently to all His followers, when He gave them the Great Commission? ‘All power (authority) is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore and teach (make disciples of) all nations. baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.’ (Matt. 28:18-20)

Now that’s our basic purpose on this earth my faithful brethren; to spread the good news of Christ’s gospel and live our own lives in a way that others would see it and desire to turn to Him for salvation. And that situation needs to be very seriously addressed today my fellow believers, because evil doing and ungodliness are running rampant. Yes my brethren, it’s in times like these that the Word of God needs to be spoken evermore vociferously and sincerely, because the people need it ever so much, as our world is on a direct tangent to hell fire and damnation, and only we, the servants, disciples and children of Almighty God can save it through our bold and timely witness.

But unfortunately, not enough of us supposed Christians are making the desired effort to spread Christ’s gospel of salvation, so our world is sliding downhill to hell more every day, and Satan and his evil cronies are just smiling and high-fiving each other as it happens. And we can use this situation from the early church as a good example.

Peter and John were arrested for healing a lame man in the name of Jesus, and when they were warned by the Council of leaders not to speak or teach in the name of Jesus, they replied: ‘Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.’ (Acts 4:19-20) And after more threats of serious punishment, they were released and went out and told their people what had happened.

‘And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said,  ‘Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that therein is.’ (Acts 4:24) Then they went on to state how the Lord had set matters in Israel in Jesus’ time (Acts 4:25-28) Finally, they declared: ‘And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by (through) the name of thy holy child (servant) Jesus. And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.’ (Acts 4:29-31)

Now friends, it’s stuff like that we need to initiate in these dreadful times, where we can go out and speak the word of God openly, without fear, regardless of any consequences that might arise from it. But unfortunately, Christ’s people are not doing such actions, because we’re either too afraid, or too comfortable, and we don’t want to upset the old applecart. But please note, that no changes, good or bad, ever happen unless the old apple cart is upset. (smile) So please, it’s time for all Christians to seriously get together and both live and speak the Word of God with all boldness and sincerity, if we hope to make a positive difference in our failing world!

Now, let’s go home declaring our Tuesday Mantra, letting all and sundry know to whom we belong, lock, stock and barrel. As one strong and sincere voice: ‘In God’s eyes, I’m not what I do. I’m not what I have. I’m not what people say about me. I am the beloved of God, that’s who I am. No one can take that from me. I don’t have to worry. I don’t have to hurry. I can trust my friend Jesus and share His LOVE with my immediate neighbours, as well as with the whole wide world! Glory be!’ 

We are now duty bound to go out and share the amazing LOVE and friendship of Jesus with others, so that they too can come to know and LOVE Him like we do! Much LOVE!
