Today’s Scrip-Bit 11 April 2019 Proverbs 1:33.

Proverbs 1:33.   But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet (secure, at ease) from fear of evil.

Well friends, circumstances do have a natural way of disturbing our best laid plans. And so it was with me and the Bit this morning. (smile) And I guess you’re wondering what’s my excuse today eh? (smile)

Well it’s simply that I had to catch a boat to Trinidad at 6.30 this morning and thus had to be up and about early to get to the docks on time, and there was no way I could write the Bit on the boat because of excessive noise and distractions and no Wi-Fi, and by the time I got to Trinidad and the hotel it was 11 o’clock and we were famished.

Unfortunately breakfast had already ended and we had to wait another half an hour for lunch, so by the time that was done, it was one p.m. and the advanced aged people had to rest, and now I’m finally up and about, so here we are. That’s the living truth, I swear it by my Boy Scout’s honour! (smile) You wouldn’t believe how difficult it is to get a plane ride from Tobago to Trinidad and back!

The boat’s not much better, because I only wanted to spend a couple days in Trinidad but ended up having to spend four. And that’s by the fast boat, the T&T Spirit, that only takes about three hours. Nobody wants to ride the other boat, the Galleon or something so, because it’s slow, about five hours and cramped.

To besides, there’s an awful political row going on right now in T&T about the buying and leasing of boats from all over the world, for oodles of dollars, but unfortunately boats that apparently don’t suit the situation for which they have been purchased. But as they say: ‘Only in T&T oui!’ Like most countries T&T always have some scandal hitting the headlines, and right now it’s the boat business intermingled with all the bubol (bribery) and corruption and crime taking place in the country, and nobody not doing much of anything to lessen it.

But yuh know, as long as mankind has anything to do with power and money, our natural greed is going to surface and always cause problems for the majority, who always seem to be poor and powerless. And as all we believers know the only way to handle these disturbing matters of life is walk hand in hand with Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour. That’s wisdom and common sense personified!

Listen as Cousin Sol spells it out for us long before Jesus did. Wisdom, the fear, reverence and awe of the Lord, is like a prophetess, constantly crying out for us to come to her. But in our haughty and prideful arrogance, with insouciance, total indifference and lack of concern we skin up our mouths and turn up our noses at her.

Thus Cousin Sol warns: ‘When your fear (terror) cometh as desolation (a storm), and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early (diligently), but they shall not find me. For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the Lord: They would (have) none of my counsel: they despised all of my reproof.’ (Prov.1:27-30)

And unfortunately my people, that’s exactly what’s happening in our ungodly, evil, narcissistic, greedy, power-hungry and strife-filled world! Too many of us have rejected the wisdom and knowledge and reverence to Almighty God! In fact, instead of hungering for, and hunkering down more with Him in these turbulent times, we’re trying our best to remove Him completely from our society! Now if that isn’t utter madness and stupidity, I don’t know what is!

And if you don’t believe me, then I hope you believe Cousin Sol, as he speaks on the Lord’s behalf. ‘Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices. For the turning away (the waywardness) of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity (complacency) of fools shall destroy them.’ (Prov.1:31-32)

And aren’t we seeing a whole lot more waywardness and complacency today than we’ve ever seen in man’s history? We certainly are! And all our nations are now in total uproar because we have defied the Lord, rejected Him, and chosen to go our own way and sit on our fat fannies! I don’t know why so many of us refuse to believe the Lord’s promises both of prosperity and destruction nuh?

By now we should realize that whatever He says, He does. His word does not return to Him void, and if He promises destruction, then it is destruction you will have. ‘But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet (secure, at ease) from fear of evil.’ What an enormous promise friends!

And Cousin Sol repeats it in greater detail on the Lord’s behalf, later on. When the Lord is the light of your life: ‘Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble. When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet. Be not afraid of sudden fear (terror), neither of the desolation of (trouble from) the wicked, when it cometh. For the Lord shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken (caught).’ (Prov.3:23-26)

That says it all friends! It’s a choice we all have to make. And for those of us who have made the right one, walking with the Lord, let’s go home declaring (right ho!) our Thursday Blessings, which the Lord in His magnanimity and generosity has bestowed on his saints. All together now: ‘I declare that I am blessed with God’s supernatural wisdom and receive clear direction for my life! I declare today that I am blessed with creativity, courage, talent and abundance! I am blessed with a strong will, self-control and self-discipline!

I am blessed with a great family, good friends, good health, faith, favour and fulfillment! I am blessed with success, supernatural strength, promotion and divine protection! I am blessed with a compassionate heart and a positive outlook on life! I declare that any curse or negative word that’s ever been spoken over me is broken right now in the name of Jesus! I declare that everything I put my hands to will prosper and succeed! I declare it today and every day! Amen!’

One important reminder my faithful friends; those blessings were meant for us to share with others, not to hoard for our own use. So let’ go out and do that nuh, and thus warm the cockles of Jesus’ heart. Much LOVE!

…true wisdom is crying out…choose me…choose me…won’t you be wise…and choose her…

Today’s Scrip-Bit 3 June 2018 Psalm 92:1.

Psalm 92:1.   It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High:

Sorry friends, but it has just been a rough morning. I even went to bed at a decent hour, feeling all right too, intending to get up early and write the Bit before going to church.

Hn! But as they say, ‘the best laid plans of mice and men oftimes go astray,’ as well as, ‘Man plans, but God laughs.’ Hn! And was He ever chuckling this morning because he had a different plan in mind for me.

In the first place I did not get up as early as intended, and then all the old bones and joints were crying out for mercy. Brother! It boggles the imagination to wake up feeling worse than when you went to bed.

Nevertheless, my ailing and aching chariot and I doddered our way to church. And was it ever the wisest decision, for in the small, intimate gathering that characterizes the early service, everybody LOVED on me! Wow! Glory be my people!

That’s the beauty of fellowship! That’s why fellowship is so important in the believer’s life. You get hugs and kisses, handshakes and physical contact which we all need, as well as encouraging words to boost your spirit.

And though the LOVE I received didn’t take away or ease my aches and pains, it certainly lifted my spirit and helped me to bear the negative stuff in a better frame of mind.

And I guess that was God’s plan: He thought I needed a personal refresher testimony to the importance of fellowship that I keep preaching about. Ah Lord eh! The mysterious movements of our God! Who knows His comings or goings? None but Him! (smile)

So in honour of His name and great glory, let’s do as our Bit declares: ‘It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High:’ Yes, let’s sing praises for the Lord’s goodness.

And today we’ll sing some new, contemporary music written by Chris Tomlin, Ed Cash and Jesse Reaves, titled ‘How great is our God!’ You can check out You Tube for Chris Tomlin’s version.

Now let’s raise our voices in praise: ‘The splendor of a King, clothed in majesty Let all the earth rejoice All the earth rejoice He wraps himself in Light, and darkness tries to hide And trembles at His voice Trembles at His voice (Chorus: How great is our God, sing with me How great is our God, and all will see How great, how great is our God)

Age to age He stands And time is in His hands Beginning and the end Beginning and the end The Godhead Three in One Father Spirit Son The Lion and the Lamb The Lion and the Lamb (Chorus) Name above all names Worthy of our praise My heart will sing How great is our God.

Name above all names Worthy of our praise My heart will sing How great is our God. (Chorus: How great is our God, sing with me How great is our God, and all will see How great, how great is our God (2).’

And that’s the gospel, indisputable truth my brethren! Our God is indeed great and worthy to be praised! The song does Him full justice, as full as our mortal words and thoughts can do Him justice.

And the psalmist proclaims later on: ‘O Lord, how great are thy works! And thy thoughts are very deep. A brutish man knoweth not; neither doth a fool understand this.’ (Ps.92:5-6) But thankfully my people, we’re neither brutish nor fools, so we understand the might and power of the Lord God Jehovah, as much as our finite minds can understand it!

And furthermore, the psalmist declares: ‘The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow (strong and tall) like a cedar in Lebanon. Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat (plump) and flourishing (green); To show that the Lord is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.’ (Ps.92:12-15)

Oh friends, oh friends, yuh see what happens when we accept the Lord and hold on to His righteous right hand? We grow strong and tall and even flourish and prosper and bear good fruit in our old age! Glory to the Most High for His grace and mercy to the undeserving children of men!

So why are we foolishly looking to other avenues for righteousness and prosperity eh, when only the Lord in His high heaven can do it with any certainty? We’re just letting the enemy lead us astray. And it’s high time we stop doing that. Remember friends, Lucifer only has power over us when we allow him to, for Jesus has already conquered, hell, death and the grave and nothing can stop us.

As the Good Book says: we’re more than conquerors; like Jesus we’ve conquered life and the enemy through His victory. So let’s live like it’s true nuh, otherwise Jesus just wasted His time and life in sacrifice on our behalf. Much LOVE!

…great is our Lord…and of great power…His understanding is infinite…so sing unto the Lord with thanksgiving…sing praise upon the harp to our God… (Ps.147:5,7)

Today’s Scrip-Bit 31 July 2013 1 John 1:4

1 John 1:4.   And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.

Oh Friends, yesterday’s gone bye, bye. What a pity! And tomorrow is yet to come, so we have to wait patiently on it. But the good news is that today is here in all its glory and splendour!

Wow! Are you ready for it? Are you ready to receive the blessings and all the other good things that today is scheduled to bring? I sure hope so, else you’ll miss out on a lot of goodies that our omnipotent and magnanimous God has in store for you.

Remember too that the early bird gets the best worms, so you’ve got to be prepared. And we’ve got to live life in the present, not in the past or the future, for today is all we’re guaranteed.

And talking of the future, here’s a relevant quote form the famous American playwright, Thomas Lanier Williams III, (1911-1983), better known as Tennessee Williams, author of such popular plays as ‘A Streetcar named Desire,’ and ‘Cat on a hot tin roof.’ Tennessee says that ‘The future is called “perhaps,” which is the only thing to call the future. And the important thing is not to allow that to scare you.’

Now there’s a lot of truth to those statements, since we cannot truly predict the future with any real sense of accuracy, for none of us know for sure what’s coming down God’s pipeline, nor when. So we can only make ‘guesstimates’ based on the happenings of yesterday and today.

The important thing though is we cannot be afraid of the future, otherwise when it finally arrives, in the form of today, we’ll find ourselves up the creek, because we hadn’t planned for it.

However, by the same token, we cannot afford to have fixed and absolute goals, because the future is so finicky, it can throw a spanner into the best laid of plans. So we need to have some flexibility built into our plans for the future, while hoping and praying that it won’t be too different than what we expect.

And Friends, the only way to do all that is to stay in close contact with our heavenly Father, basking in the sunshine of His LOVE!

That’s why John wrote in today’s Bit: ‘And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.’ Yes my brethren, Christians are supposed to be full of joy! Otherwise, Christ’s death, His sacrifice on the cross would be all in vain. He would have died for nothing.

And we keep hearing that the joy of the Lord is our strength. (Neh.8:10) Now that’s the awesome truth! For if we don’t have that joy in Christ, which brings us strength, and enables us to repel the enemy, we’ll be weak and miserable and easily fooled by Lucifer.

And if you don’t believe me, then listen to Jesus when talking to His disciples re the vine and its branches. ‘These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.’ (John 15:11)

And later on, re the subject of their sorrow turning to joy, Jesus tells the disciples: ‘Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.’ (John 16:24)

So why then, do so many of us Christians walk around with these sad, hang dog looks, shoulders drooping, with false piety, behaving like ‘poor-me-ones’ eh? That was never the image Jesus wanted His followers to portray.

Oh Friends, I know that life can really be rough at times, and it’s often not easy to keep a smile on one’s face, much less in one’s heart. But as I keep reminding us, if all the stuff we teach about Jesus is true, and we sincerely believe it, then Christians should be the happiest and most joyful people in the world! For with all the wonderful things we’ve got to look forward to: mercy, grace, forgiveness, salvation and eternal life, what’s there to be sad and miserable about?

And as Peter declares of those believers who never actually walked with Jesus, which includes us: ‘Whom having not seen, ye LOVE; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.’ (1 Pet.1:8-9)

Oh my people, if we are to save the world, or even just make it a little better, then we believers need to have more joy, more spunk, more confidence and assurance in our beliefs, then show it to the unbelievers that they too can believe. For why would anyone want to embrace a sad, joyless, haphazard, inconsistent, hypocritical belief system eh?

Oh Friends, people out there in this turbulent and unfriendly world are looking for a reason, a purpose to believe in, and we have the best reason and purpose there is; Jesus Christ! But we’re just not putting Him forward properly, not stirring up the emotions of the unbelievers, so that they too will want all that He has to offer.

And we’ll end with a word from the scholars re our Bit. ‘The major purpose of 1 John is stated in 5:13, (please take a moment and read it) but another purpose is stated here: for the recipients, and no doubt John as well, to enjoy and share in the deep sense of satisfaction and purpose that knowing Christ and walking with Him brings.’

And all God’s people declared in a loud, grateful and joyous voice: ‘All praise and thanks be to Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Saviour, Author and Finisher of our Faith!’

Now Friends, I implore us to go out into the unholy world and let our lights, our saltiness and our joy shine brightly before the heathen, because that’s the only way we can bring them to Jesus. And that’s what He desires more than anything else, that’s why He gave His sinless life as a sacrifice for sin! Much LOVE!

…in this world ye shall have tribulation…but be of good cheer…I have overcome the world… (John 16:33)
