Philippians 1:11. Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the praise and glory of God.
Oh my wonderful Friends, neighbours and co-workers, it’s Friday! And a joyous shout of ‘TGIM! Thank God is Friday yes!’ rises up to heaven as the words register. Yes mih people, we’ll soon be released from bondage for a couple of days. But by the same token, we have to use the short time off wisely. So let’s chant our Friday Chant, which helps us to keep the weekend in its proper perspective. With great joy, enthusiasm and sincere praise, let’s chant. ‘Oh Lord, thanks for getting me safely through another week of work! It hasn’t been easy, but with your generous help, I made it through. Now, please help me to get sufficient fun, fellowship, rest and relaxation in these two short days off, so that I can be renewed and refreshed in soul, body and mind, to go back out and do it all over again next week, furthering your glorious kingdom with each step I take. I pray this in Jesus name. Amen.’ Now let’s settle down and try not to overdo anything over the weekend, but make sure we find time for the most important aspect; fellowship with other believers, regardless of what day you celebrate the Sabbath. And it’s certainly true that wonders never cease, but daily they increase, for when I looked outside awhile ago, the lane was snow-covered as well as all the driveways … except mine. It’s not plenty snow, but mine was pitch black, the asphalt totally bare. What’s amazing is that usually mine is the one that’s covered with either snow or leaves, or whatever is blowing around the neighbour hood. But we all know that our God moves in mysterious ways, too high for our simple brains to understand, and that’s why He IS God! And that finally brings us to our Bit. ‘Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the praise and glory of God.’ Now in Bruh Paul’s usual highfalutin style, that verse can be a challenge to understand, so we’ll use the simpler translation the scholars gave us. ‘Filled with the fruit that is righteousness, which comes through Jesus Christ for the purpose of glorifying and praising God.’ That should make it much easier for all of us to understand. Yesterday we ended by looking at corroborating scriptures, and today we’ll continue to do so. And believe me, there are quite a few. So let’s go way back to Moses, who, in the course of telling the Israelites about clean and unclean food, reminds them: ‘For thou art a holy people unto the Lord thy God, and the Lord hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people (special treasure) unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth.’ (Deut.14:2) Oh Friends, we need to remember that because as believers, followers of Jesus Christ, we also are a chosen gathering, a special treasure, blessed by Almighty God on Jesus’ behalf! That means we also have to behave as a specially chosen and blessed people. But that’s something I don’t think we’re doing too well, otherwise so many people wouldn’t have such a bad opinion of us as Christians, often considering us hypocrites, which is often true. And until we change our lifestyle, until we bring it into true accordance with God’s Word and the principles found therein, we’ll never be filled with that righteousness that sincerely causes us to praise and glorify the Most High God Jehovah. So that’s something we’ve seriously got to work on. Now we’ll turn to Colossians, where Bruh Paul is writing to them about his prayer for their spiritual wisdom. And for us to understand what’s happening, I’ll quote from the beginning of that passage to the verse that actually corroborates our Bit. ‘We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you. Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the LOVE which ye have to all the saints. For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel; Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth.’ (Col.1:3-6) And we’ll get some amplification from the scholars of most of it. According to them: ‘Evidence of a person’s faith in Christ Jesus is his LOVE…to all the saints. Hope is salvation, as it refers to the object for which one hopes. Word of the truth of the gospel could be rendered as “the message of the gospel which is true.” This is meant to contradict the Colossian heresy: unlike its false teaching, or “vain deceit” (2:8), the gospel is true indeed. The universal spread and effectiveness of the gospel verify the assertion in verse 5 that it is the truth. The Colossian heresy is merely local; while the gospel has come to the Colossians, it has gone beyond them in all the world. And it bringeth forth fruit; that is, when embraced by faith, the gospel produces godly character and noble conduct in its converts.’ There we have it my brethren; when through faith, we sincerely embrace the truth of the gospel, it leads us to right thoughts and actions in Christ. And we’ll end with some words from Psalm 100; A call to praise the Lord: ‘Make a joyful noise (shout joyfully) unto the Lord, all ye lands (all the earth). Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.’ (Ps.100:1-3) And that’s more gospel truth Friends! Now let’s read, mark and inwardly digest all those things, then go out and do what is right in the sight of God, as our Lord and Saviour, Jesus expects of us. That’s wisdom at its zenith! And only then can we be called true believers. Much LOVE!…to sin is human…but the righteousness of God is given to believers…to help us keep our transgressions to a minimum…

Isaiah 40:8. The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
One more morning, one more day, filled with new mercies, filled with new blessings, showered down from heaven with fatherly LOVE! Yes Friends, that’s what is happening on this new Today, and what happens on every new Today! And before we get too carried away, let’s realize that it’s not because of our goodness, or what we rightfully deserve, but because of our wonderful God’s LOVING-kindness towards us! His heart is so overflowing with LOVE and tenderness for us, that despite our lack of enthusiasm and strong faith, He has a hard time saying No to us. So in grateful appreciation, let’s offer a few words of thanks nuh. Pray with me: ‘Oh heavenly Father, we, your humble servants, created and so richly provided for by You, offer our sincere thanks and praise this new day. We don’t know what lies ahead, but we know that whatever comes our way, You’ll be right there with us to help us through it. Please continue to bless and protect us. We pray this in the holy name of Your Son, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, who sacrificed His sinless life at Calvary, so that we could be reconciled and once again have glorious fellowship with You.’ And all God’s people declared a loud and sincere, ‘Praise the Lord! Amen!’ Ah mih people, I’m so glad that it was only supposed to be a few words. (smile) But yuh know, sometimes when you start giving our awesome God the praise and thanks He so richly deserves, you often get carried away by the deep LOVE for Him that’s in your heart. Now let’s turn to our Bit, which, as promised, is the same as yesterday. I’m trying my best to be like the Lord and keep my promises. (smile) And our Bit boldly proclaims: ‘The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.’ And that’s no lie, my brethren! The Word of our great Deity will never depart from the life of this world, as long as it exists, be it in physical or spiritual form, because it comes from the Mighty One who created it and all it contains. Unfortunately many don’t believe that, and I’m genuinely sorry for them, because it means they are not enjoying the rich and fulfilling life that comes from believing and following the Word of the Most High God Jehovah. And as Isaiah confidently declares before our Bit, in this Chapter 40, that deals with comfort through trust in the Lord: ‘And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it. The voice said, Cry (out), And he said, what shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the godliness (loveliness) thereof is as the flower of the field: The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit (breath) of the Lord bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.’ (Is.40:5-7) Yes Friends, in the time line of our God, we certainly have short lives; lives comparable in our understanding, to that of the grass and flowers that spring up rich and beautiful one day, but by the next are withered and faded. However, the glorious Word of our omnipotent God will live much longer, indeed forever! Why? Because it comes from the One who is Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End, who created everything that exists, controls it all, and can do whatsoever He wants with it! As the prophet Micah promises, when talking about turning swords into ploughshares: ‘And I will make her that halted (is lame) a remnant, and her that was cast far off (the outcasts) a strong nation: and the Lord shall reign over them in mount Zion from henceforth, even for ever.’ (Mic.4:7) What an awesome promise my fellow believers! And it will eventually come true, because our God is ever faithful to keep His promises. Meanwhile, Isaiah solemnly delivers another of God’s promises in Chapter 24, that after judgement comes upon the earth: ‘Then the moon shall be confounded (disgraced or ashamed), and the sun ashamed, when the Lord of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients (elders) gloriously.’ (Is.24:23) Wow mih breddren! That will be such a glorious day that even the sun and moon will have to step back from the marvellous light of our enchanting God! And as we like to do whenever possible, we’ll end with some moving and meaningful words of the Master Teacher, Jesus. Here, He’s telling the people of His upcoming death, resurrection and ascension. ‘The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man? Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest the darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knowest not wither he goeth. While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light.’ (John 12:34-36) Oh Friends, that’s the Word of our God, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! And yuh know what? It will certainly live on forever, so if we’re smart, we’ll consciously choose to follow it, so that we too can live on forever with Him. Much LOVE!…true believers…must use the wisdom generated by the Holy Spirit in them…to LOVE and obey the Word of God…

Proverbs 26:11. As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.
Oh Friends, oh Friends, it’s another beautiful day in the life! Wow! Praise the Lord! Yes, praise our wonderful God for it, because regardless of the suffering, the hardship, the heartache, the pain and illness we may be experiencing, we still know for sure that our God is good and fair and just, and He will not allow us to handle more than we can bear. And furthermore, whatever He brings us to, He’s faithfully promised to bring us through. And all God’s people declared a loud and joyful: ‘Glory Hallelujah! For the Lord He is indeed good to the undeserving children of men!’ Oh my brethren, that’s the basic beauty of the omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient Deity we serve and worship! And now, here’s one of those inspiring, positive, uplifting prayers from Dr. Robert H. Schuller’s Hour of Power Devotional, to get us started on the right foot for the day. It’s a prayer of joy, optimism and great expectations that today we’ll do well in the service of our Leader and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Pray with me: ‘Thank you, Father, for the beautiful surprises you are planning for me today. So often in my life, when it looked like the day would be dismal, depressing, and dark, an unexpected burst of golden sunshine exploded through a black cloud sending inspiring shafts of warm, beautiful sunshine into my life. Father, it is happening now! I can already feel the power of your LOVE, through Christ my Lord. Amen.’ Yuh know Friends, it truly amazes me, that I’ve been reading that Devotional for a few years now, but every time I come to one of those uplifting prayers that I share with you, it just seems like I’ve never see them before. It’s the same thing with the Good Book; every time you read it, you discover something new. That happened to me recently while reading Job. I discovered that his friends had actually come and sat down seven days and nights with him in the dust and ashes of his grief, without saying a word. It’s only after that, they began to rag on him about his supposed sins. (Job 2:13) That brings us to our Bit: ‘As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to (repeats) his folly.’ Ah Friends, that’s so true of so many of us today, it’s not funny! Just like a dog goes back and plays in its vomit, it seems very difficult for too many of us to learn from our mistakes, and thus we keep repeating the same ones over and over. As Sister Joyce (Joyce Meyer) likes to say, you can’t keep on doing the same thing and expect different results. Now listen to Peter, as he talks about false teachers and those who once knew God, but fell from grace and again became entangled in the shoddy, disgusting affairs of the world. ‘For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned (returns) to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.’ (2 Pet.2:21-22) Oh mih breddren, is that ever so true! I guess it’s where the saying, ‘you can take the mud from the pig, but you can’t take the pig from the mud,’ comes from. And we do it all the time. Jesus washes and cleanses us of our sins, but we then let the wily Lucifer tantalize us with his glitzy but empty and useless worldly things, and we fall right back into the mire of sin again. And a good example of that from way back when is Pharaoh, when Moses comes and asks him to let the Jewish people go, but Pharaoh refuses. It took something like (10) ten disasters upon his land and people, before Pharaoh agreed to set God’s people free. And my people, the worse thing that can happen to us when we’re undergoing tribulation or making serious mistakes is a break in the action, where we get a little relief from our misery. That unfortunately often gives us the wrong message, and causes us to continue our folly. That happened to Pharaoh after the plague of frogs, when Moses cried out to the Lord about it. (Ex.8:12-13) The Good Book declares: ‘But when Pharaoh saw that there was respite (relief), he hardened his heart, and hearkened not (did not listen) unto them; as the Lord had said.’ (Ex.8:15) Likewise do we my fellow believers, usually to our subsequent hurt. Pharaoh foolishly suffered through another five plagues after that, before he finally saw the light. And we’ll end with an interesting scripture from the hymn of praise in the day of salvation per Isaiah, re the foolishness of the wicked. ‘Let favour (grace) be showed to the wicked, yet will he not learn righteousness: in the land of uprightness will he deal unjustly, and will not behold the majesty of the Lord.’ (Is.26:10) Yes Friends, such is the deceitfulness and stupidity of the wicked, that even though Almighty God shows them favour, pours out His grace on them, they will not learn righteousness but continue their wicked ways. Please my people, let us not be numbered amongst that sorry, unfortunate lot. It’s a fool’s folly! And followers of Jesus are anything but fools; wisdom is our middle name. Much LOVE!…a wise man learns from his mistakes…but a fool continues in his foolish ways…

John 4:10. Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink, thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
Oh Friends, the ole fella doesn’t have a catchy, tantalizing intro for us today as the edicts of writing dictate. But I have something even better: a free gift of living water in a land of broken dreams. I have Good News Friends, the best news ever! That the Creator of the universe came to earth as a man and dwelt amongst us here on earth for approximately thirty three years, during which time He taught us about our heavenly Father; what He expects of us. Then this God-man sacrificed Himself on a rugged wooden cross, so that we could be reconciled with the righteous and just God, from whom we’d been long estranged by the abomination termed sin, because of the disobedience of our first parents Adam and Eve. And my people, if that ain’t Good News, then I don’t know what is! Anyway, today we’re going to check out an interesting story between an earthly woman and this God who came to earth as flesh and took the name of Jesus: Salvation, Saviour. One day, as this Jesus journeys overland, note by foot (P2), from Judea to Galilee, He eschews the circuitous route usually taken by other Jews, and instead passes by the city of Sychar (old Shechem) which belonged to the Samaritans. Now the Samaritans were looked down on by the Jews because though originally Jews, they had been bastardized by intermarriage with the pagan tribes that inhabited the land when they originally conquered it. On this particular day, Jesus is tired from walking a long distance in the daytime heat, for though He is God, He has taken on all the attributes of man, except sin. So He sends His disciples to buy food and sits down near this well on a plot of land that the Jews’ forefather Jacob had given to his son Joseph, many generations back. (Gen.33:19; 48:22) Now while Jesus is sitting at the well, waiting for His disciples to return, this Samaritan woman from the nearby town comes to fill her pitcher at the well, whereupon Jesus asks her for a drink since He had no utensils to use for that task. Obviously the woman was shocked, and asked how come He, a Jew, asked her, a Samaritan for water, when the Jews looked down on the Samaritans as scum, and had no dealings with them whatsoever? That brings us to our Bit. ‘Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink, thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.’ Wow! Can you imagine the further shock the poor Samaritan woman must have experienced? Not only was a Jewish man actually having a civil conversation with her, but was also talking about giving her ‘living water’! Thus, ‘The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle (livestock)?’ (John 4:11-12) That was rather perceptive on the woman’s part, but she hadn’t really understood Jesus’ words. ‘Jesus answered and said unto her, Whomsoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well (fountain) of water springing up into everlasting life.’ (John 4:13-14) Mama Mia! Imagine that nuh people! Water that will cause you to never thirst again, that would instead keep bubbling up in you forever, like a fountain! Now, I believe if that scene took place today, the woman would laugh the man to scorn, consider him mad or simply a scam artiste, because we have so much intelligence, education and technological savvy at our fingertips, and the laws of nature says that sort of thing just is not possible. But note Friends, this woman two thousand years ago didn’t even bat an eyelash, didn’t miss a beat; ‘The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.’ (John 4:15) Ah mih people, despite all our supposed advances, we’ve become a very cynical society, and if something isn’t completely logical, or can be scientifically proven, we tend to ignore it, or look on it with scorn and distaste. But that woman back there was smart. She wasn’t sure what Jesus was offering, but what ever it was, she wanted it, at that time, primarily because she figured it would cut out the laborious task of coming to the well to fetch water. But then Jesus unexpectedly changed the subject, telling her to go and bring her husband, to which she replied she had none. And when Jesus told her about her unusual lifestyle – five previous husbands, and a current common-law one, she realized that He was a prophet, otherwise He could not have known about her unconventional situation. (John 4:16-19) Oh Friends, I wonder if we know what Jesus was talking about, re ‘the gift of God, and living water’? I’d surely like to get into it now, but time and space have run out, and I don’t want to give us too much to ponder all at once. So like all the drama and suspense shows we like to watch, I’ll just keep us dangling on a string till tomorrow, when I’ll reveal it all in living colour. (smile) Seriously though, the rest of stuff I want to talk about would just make the Bit way too long, and I’m very aware of our short attention spans. So till tomorrow, God in favour, please walk safely, and may He bless us and make His countenance to shine on us and give us His everlasting peace. Much LOVE!…not because something doesn’t sound logical…means it isn’t possible…through the eyes of faith…

2 Corinthians 1:2. Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
Aye Friends, whoever says that our God isn’t something else, doh really know Him nuh. Listen to this story: A couple days ago He worked a magic on me, a nice magic obviously, and now would you believe that He wants me to testify to it. Hn, hn! But you know, since I try to be obedient as much as possible, I am going to testify, though not simply out of obedience, but more so out of LOVE and gratitude for God’s awesome goodness, and as usual, He was just in time. Anyway, the story goes like this. That day I guess I was feeling somewhat tired and low down, plus the weather was sort of wet and damp, and to make matters worse, my old bones were acting up with the arthritis, so I was having a bit of a pity party, day dreaming about the wonderful weather in Tobago. And right at that momentous moment in time (smile) the duchess called me from downstairs to pick up the phone. And lo and behold, it was one of my sisters in Jamdown (Jamaica) calling to wish me a Happy New Year and also to tell me that my niece and nephew from Tobago had just had dinner with them. And I don’t have to tell you all what that caused – my joy was most thoroughly renewed! And who says that our God isn’t a real great God eh? Foolishness! Much thanks Sister Audrey! I’m sure she didn’t even know that she was then being used by the Most High to revitalize me. And some of you must be wondering how come I have sisters in J.A. But they must be my sisters since some forty years ago, when I was living there, their parents took me in when I had no place to go, and the family showered me with plenty, plenty LOVE, a true action of Jesus. Thanks so much Aunt Amy and Uncle Aubrey. I won’t even venture to think what would have become of me, if the LOVE of Jesus hadn’t penetrated your hearts and caused you to take me in. And as I keep saying Friends, we miss the best part of our God when we don’t see His wonderful actions in our daily lives. Ah sorry for you people who don’t look for Him in the everyday situations, and thus cannot appreciate what He does in the ordinary, day to day moments, but the Lord has done so much ordinary magic in my life that He’s made me a sure believer. Unfortunately, most of us keep looking for big miracles, which are obviously few and far between, when we should be looking for the small ones, which happen almost everyday. However, from today, RIGHT NOW, I want us all to look for and thus enjoy those smaller moments of magic, cause that’s when we truly come to know, appreciate and LOVE Him. I also want us to be serious about our New Year’s resolution to increase the level and intensity of our LOVE Walk with Jesus. That means being more committed in thought, word and action to the LOVE REVOLUTION we’re trying to foment. Oh Friends, I guarantee that if you all really tried to get closer to Jesus, you’d be amazed at the good changes that will start taking place in your lives. Then you’d start to believe more. In other words, you’d be growing in faith. And that’s the name of the game my people: believe… experience… more belief… more experience, at an even higher level… faith grows even stronger… with righteousness not bad at all… and you just keep growing until He’s ready to call you home. In fact, once you come to really know Jesus, you never stop growing because there’s such an awesome amount of stuff to learn about and from Him. And that Friends, is my testimony for this Tuesday morning, early in January, in this new year of 2013 with its promised watershed, unexpected, and most interesting happenings. Ah mih people, if we can’t find joy in the Lord, then something’s wrong. But here’s our Bit: ‘Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.’ And like Bruh Paul, I’d like to wish us all that this morning. That greeting came to be his signature at the beginning of almost all of his writings, beginning with that to the Romans. ‘To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.’ (Rom.1:7) The scholars explain that thus: ‘Called to be saints. This tells how they got to be saints, namely by way of God’s call (cf. 8:30). Grace is the typical Greek greeting, whereas peace is a traditional Hebrew greeting. Note Paul’s greeting in his other epistles, for this characteristic expression of Paul.’ And re our Bit, here is the scholar’s note. ‘Grace to you and peace: for Paul, grace always precedes peace. Peace is subsequent and comes because God’s grace has been received by faith. Nothing brings this peace as much as the undiluted gospel of God’s grace (cf. Eph.2:14; Phil.4:7; Col.1:20; 3:15). From: The single preposition ‘apo’ links the Father and the Son in an indissoluble union, thus pointing to the deity of Christ.’ And all God’s children declared a loud and grateful, ‘Praise the Lord!’ Now Friends, we’ll close with the words to the chorus of another li’l reggae ditty I recently heard that are most appropriate to our Bit today. It’s called ‘Beauty for Ashes, and is sung by Germaine Cowan. Please sing the chorus with me: ‘Beauty for ashes, In a shower of grace. Hope for tomorrow; It’s a bright and brand new day. He took away my sorrow. Put a smile on my face. Beauty for ashes, In a shower of grace.’ Isn’t that just plain beautiful and filled with so much gospel truth my brethren! Let’s ponder on those things today nuh, let’s consider the many instances where our wonderful God has taken our ashes and given us beauty in return. Let’s start looking for His glorious presence in our everyday lives, because that’s where He wants to be and is mostly to be found. Much LOVE!…And of his fullness…have all we received…and grace for grace…(graced heaped on grace)… (John 1:16)

Proverbs 22:15. Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
Oh Friends, that wonderful day called Monday has come around again! And all God’s children said a hearty ‘Yeah!’ No, I’m not crazy or foolish, just a tad eccentric in wanting to change the attitude of followers of Jesus, so that we don’t abuse the weekend and when Monday rolls around we’re not so blue, tired, whiny and miserable. Instead we’ll be bubbling up with energy, brimming over with it, just dying to get out into the evil, ungodly world that now surrounds us and bring the many lost souls out there to Christ. And I’m going to do it, if it takes me until my dying day – with God’s help of course. And I can hear some of you chuckling and shaking your head in sympathy, sadly muttering, ‘Now we know that he’s truly crazy.’ Aye mih people, I’m just trying to do what God has put it in my heart to do. Anyway to help us accomplish that God-given task, let’s therefore sing our Monday Morning Battle Hymn with a whole lot of enthusiasm and sincerity. All together now, let’s rock the world this Monday Morning: ‘Oh Lord God Almighty, Creator of the universe and all therein! We, your humble servants, praise your Holy Name and thank you that this Monday morning we have jobs to go to; jobs we don’t like, jobs that are unfair, difficult and even dangerous, but which serve a useful purpose here on earth; keeping lives and families together. We also thank you Father for the renewed vitality and enthusiasm you’ve wrought in our weary souls over the last two days. It’s that rejuvenation of Spirit which allows us now to sally forth with confidence into the evil, ungodly world that surrounds us, to begin a new week of work, constantly buffeted and bombarded by the enemy’s wicked taunts, wiles and lies. But heavenly Father, we’re not afraid, for we know we’re invincible, sure conquerors, once we’re wearing your powerful, protective spiritual armour. We surrender our all to you, and humbly ask that you let your incredible aura of LOVE, the Holy Spirit, lead and guide all your servants as we go out to meet the enemy in battle. Fill us with steadfast faith, so that we can make worthwhile inroads into the enemy’s ranks, and thereby further your glorious kingdom. We pray this in the Holy Name of your Son, and our Saviour, Jesus Christ. AMEN!’ Oh Friends, that wasn’t as good as it could or should be, and I’ll chalk it up to the lingering after effects of the Christmas and New Year’s frivolity, but it should be good enough to get us moving. Now let’s move on to our challenging, controversial, but oh so right and truthful Bit. ‘Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.’ Yesterday we looked at some scriptures that warned and encouraged us to instil the Word of God early into the hearts of our children, so that there would be less cause for us to seriously discipline them at a later date. And granted even a century ago we were too harsh and abusive with our offspring. But now we’ve moved right along to the other end of the continuum, where we’re absolutely too lenient with them. In the last few decades we began listening to the wisdom of the world rather than that of God, to the crooks and charlatans about the distastefulness and abusiveness of corporal punishment, and have now abandoned it completely, giving them instead mood and mind altering drugs at a very tender age to combat a whole set of ridiculous neuroses dreamed up by those same crooks and charlatans. All to what good eh my people? To none whatsoever! Because we’ve ended up with a generation of weak, spineless, suicidal, drug addicted, rude, unmannerly, disrespectful, disobedient, selfish, immoral, ungodly, greedy children. Yes people, sadly we listened to all the namby pamby supposed mind doctors and others bewailing that we can’t hit little Johnny or Jenny because that would just make them turn out badly and resort to violence too. Hogwash! What have all the little Johnnies and Jennies’ that didn’t get a good cut-tail every once in a while turn out to be now eh? Violent and undisciplined, ending up in jails and mental institutions at an alarming rate. If we’d pay attention we’d notice that the majority of crime, particularly the violent kind, is being committed mostly be young people, then hopefully we’d ask ourselves why. Why do you think God punished His chosen people Israel so harshly for their disobedience eh, even to the length of several times removing them form the land of the living, or allowing them to be carried into captivity? Because He knew man’s penchant for sinful, unfettered, take it to the limit, ungodly behaviour, and He LOVED them too much to allow them to destroy themselves with earthly lusts and evils. Friends, that’s how we were supposed to LOVE our children too, but unfortunately we did not, we got too soft and lenient with them and thus they took, and are still taking advantage of the situation. Instead of some corporal punishment as the Good Book advises, we sent them to their rooms, where they had all the toys of today to play with, so they never missed nor learned anything from that. My people, as followers of Christ, we cannot pick and choose what to believe of the Bible. It’s either we believe and live by all of it, or we don’t believe any of it. If it says that we must administer some corporal punishment to our children every so often, then so be it. But a lot of that is our fault because we never taught them the Word of God properly in the first place. When you’re taught that from an early age, you understand what’s what, and thus you don’t make half as many mistakes or be as disobedient to require much corporal punishment. My Friends, there’s method in God’s seeming madness. Enough of my spiel though, because this is a very touchy subject with me. And you can see which side I’m on. I’ve been around too long and seen too many children lose their way because of both parental and societal misguidance. Let’s turn now to some scriptures that uphold the wisdom of our Bit. And isn’t it strange that many of them come from the Proverbs of Cousin Sol. Listen up my brethren. ‘He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that LOVETH him chasteneth him betimes (promptly).’ (Prov.13:24) And again: ‘Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying (do not set your heart on his crying).’ (Prov.19:18) And one more time: ‘Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.’ (Prov.23:13-14) Ah Friends, as I’ve said on several occasions, we’ve done a great disservice to our children by trying to raise them as though we were bleeding hearts and they would break if we touched them too hard. I can understand the reasoning behind some of it since some of us grew up in real tough situations, but I’m sure you’d agree that many of those tough situations have since proven beneficial when the hard times of life have accosted you. Sadly though our children cannot handle hard times since they are not accustomed to it. As the Good Book says, we get stronger when we face adversity, it forms strength of character. Anyway, it’s not too late for us to begin rectifying the situation. Obviously for those already grown we can’t administer corporal punishment, but we certainly can use other more supposed civilized methods. On a point of interest, I don’t know why we insist on thinking that we’re civilized nuh, when we’re the biggest barbarians ever, just well camouflaged, like wolves in sheep’s clothing, as our actions prove over and over. And here’s one last example to prove my point. Have you ever noticed that the children of rich folks who have everything handed to them on a silver platter, without any responsibility or accountability, more often than not turn out to be the biggest wastrels ever, as opposed to those who are taught to be responsible at a young age? All we’ve done is just lowered the level from mostly rich children not being taught responsibility to children from all income groups. But remember Friends, the results we get come from what we plant and how we nurture it, and we can’t expect to do the same thing over and over and get different results. Please ponder on how we are raising our children today and let’s get back to the godly way, which doesn’t mean a whole lot of corporal punishment, but certainly more of the Word at an early age and more teaching of responsibility and accountability. Much LOVE!…you can’t plant corn and expect to reap peas…or even not nurture the corn properly… and yet expect to reap a great harvest…

Deuteronomy 28:2. And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God.
Oh Friends, I have some wonderful news to share with you this morning! I want to tell you that, ‘I, I am blessed. Yes, I’m saying that I, I am blessed. I want to tell the world, that I. I am blessed! Oh mih people, we out here in Western society are so blessed, we have so much to be thankful for, and yet we don’t appreciate it. We’re always complaining about what we don’t have and never seem to stop wanting more, even when we can’t use what we already have. But Friends, if you have a roof over your head, clothes on your back, food on your table, a job to go to, no matter how lowly and humble – remember Jesus was a lowly carpenter – and your children are healthy, then you can join me and sing: ‘I, I am blessed. Tell the world that I, I am blessed. Let’s tell the world, that we, we are blessed!’ Oh my brethren, the followers of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ are the most blessed people in the whole wide world! Please let’s act like it nuh. What could be better than the sure promise of LOVE and peace, harmony and contentment, salvation, eternal life and joy in heaven, where there will be no more tears, no more pain and no more sorrow eh? My people, we have such a lot to be thankful for here on earth; 90 percent of the world has so much less than us. And we have so much to look forward to when Jesus comes again. Let us therefore give much praise and thanks and glory everlasting to our great and wonderful God, who LOVES us with such a stormy passion, that He even sent His One Son, Jesus, to die a horrible sacrificial death on our behalf, so that we could be reconciled, be reunited with Him. That’s the greatest blessing ever! So let’s sing again, and really mean it. ‘Oh we, we are blessed. Let’s tell the world that believers, followers of Jesus are blessed.’ Oh Friends, I don’t even know who sings the song, but I’ve heard on the radio a few times. It’s a nice l’il reggae ditty that just resounds with so much truth, that I couldn’t help but sing the chorus. And today, the Lord just made it erupt in my soul and share it with you. So for whatever it’s worth, let’s sing again nuh, let’s give thanks and praise to the Most High, the Father of LOVE and all wonderful things: ‘Oh I, I am blessed. Yes we, we are blessed. Let’s tell the world that God’s children are blessed!’ And there’s absolutely no doubt about that my breddren, as is clearly stated in our Bit, which falls under the blessings of obedience. ‘And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God.’ My fellow believers, from the very beginning, the Lord promised to bless us if we followed His dictates. That’s the just, kind, righteous and thoughtful God that He is. Hear how Moses put it to the Israelites at the outset of their journey through the wilderness, en route to the Promised Land. ‘And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all the nations of the earth.’ (Deut.28:1) Now here are some of the blessings the Lord promised for obedience to His Will. ‘Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shall thou be in the field. Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body (offspring), and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine (cattle), and the flocks of thy sheep. Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store (kneading bowl). Blessed shall thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shall thou be when thou goest out.’ (Deut.28:3-6) Oh Friends, how could there be any better promise than that eh? No way! The scholars even say that those three verses contain six blessings that extend to every sphere of life. So why wouldn’t we follow the Lord’s Word eh, if such goodness and mercy is going to follow us when we’re obedient to it. And is not like we haven’t seen it in action. It worked for the Israelites and for numerous nations over the ages. But somehow or other when we get fat and prosperous by following the Lord, some weird thing creeps into our minds and souls that then tends to turn us away from Him. I believe we get a bit too big for our britches, thinking that all the prosperity was our doing, when in fact it had everything to do with God’s goodness to obedient followers. So what happens then? When we get too proud and arrogant for our own good, the Lord simply takes away His goodness and mercy and allows us to do it our way, which eventually ends up in a fiasco every time. Note our present situation. A couple decades aback, when we were obedient and prosperous the little gnat from Lucifer invaded our minds and told us that it was all our doing. And fools that we were, we believed him and removed Jehovah God from the prominent position He once held in our society to an also ran role. Now look at the sorry state we’re in. Ah mih people, I don’t know what to say or do to get us to see the light nuh. And what I find interesting is that in this chapter the section on blessings only runs from verses 1-14, but that on curses for disobedience runs from verses 15-68. Wow! Doesn’t that tell us something Friends? I’d strongly suggest that we read Deuteronomy Chapter 28 a few times, just to get it indelibly imprinted on our minds, that disobedience is both foolish and way way more disastrous than obedience to the Creator’s Will. In closing Friends, I ask that we listen to these oh so truthful words of the psalmist: ‘It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.’ (Ps.118:8-9) Now my people, please, please let’s write them in our hearts, minds and souls so that we can obey God and be blessed. That’s wisdom at its highest height! Much LOVE!…I have set before you…life and death…blessing and cursing…therefore choose life…that both thou and thy seed may live… (Deut.30:19)

Psalm 135:5. For I know that the Lord is great, and that our Lord is above all gods.
Ah Friends, welcome to another day in the life! One filled with plenty blessings, mercy and forgiveness from our heavenly Father, Creator and strong Provider. For His undeniable LOVING-kindness to us undeserving children of men, we ought therefore to be very thankful, and in return show Him the utmost honour, reverence, respect and worship He so richly deserves. But on the other hand, being the true ingrates that we are, too many of us expect to experience and bask in that LOVING-kindness, but refuse to give Him the glory that’s rightfully His. That’s a very unwise move though Friends, because the Lord is greater than the useless idols to which so many of us bow down. Our Bit puts it quite succinctly and truthfully: ‘For I know that the Lord is great, and that our Lord is above all gods.’ And that’s the living truth Friends! How do we know that? Listen to the next two verses. ‘Whatsoever the Lord pleased, that did he in heaven, and in the earth, in the seas, and all deep places. He causeth the vapours (water vapour) to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings for the rain; he bringeth the wind out of his treasuries.’ (Ps.135:6-7) Yes my brethren, the entire universe is the work of His hands and His imagination. Like a potter creating pottery from scratch, He created the universe, doing whatever He pleased with His creation. So how then can any of these other supposed gods be stronger and greater than Him eh? NO WAY! And today we’re going to get into some scriptures that justify our contention…sorry, it’s not a contention, but a definite fact. We’re going to begin with Moses, a man who certainly experienced God’s greatness in his life; what with forcing Pharaoh to set the Israelites free, then parting the Red Sea for them to cross over on dry land, while swallowing up the Egyptian army, then leading a bunch of miserable, ungrateful people, their animals and their belongings through the wilderness to the Promised Land of Canaan, promised many years before to their father Abraham. Moses could therefore rightly state in his song: ‘Who is like unto thee, O Lord, among the gods (mighty ones)? Who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?’ (Ex.15:11) And the definitive answer to all those questions my Friends is, ABSOLUTELY NOBODY! None of the other supposed deities can hold a match to the candle of our God; the ONE TRUE GOD; He of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob! And later on, when Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, brought Moses’ wife and two sons to meet him in the wilderness and heard about the wonders the Lord had done on behalf of His people Israel, he too was forced to concede: ‘Now I know that the Lord is greater than all gods: for in the thing wherein they dealt (behaved) proudly he was above them.’ (Ex.18:11) Even Cousin Sol, when he was planning to build God’s temple, he was so overwhelmed by the magnitude of his task and the awesome power of God, that he declared in wonder: ”And the house which I build is (will be) great: for great is our God above all gods.’ (2 Chr.2:5) And my people, those men not only heard about the great God of Israel, but more importantly they experienced His greatness personally. So there is absolutely no reason to doubt them. And I daresay the lives of many of us modern day believers are also filled with the mystical, miraculous works of God. So why then do we still doubt Him eh? I guess because we’re just naturally fickle and fainthearted, wanting everything easy and now for now. But sorry Friends, that’s not how our God operates. We need to do His will first, and in His time, He will reward us. Remember, He’s the Creator, and He runs the show, not us, the created. And now, turning to Psalm 95, listen to the psalmist declare the Lord’s omnipotence. ‘Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise (shout joyfully) unto him, with psalms (songs). For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand (possession) are the deep places of the earth: the strength (heights) of the hills is his also. The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land.’ (Ps.95:2-5) Meanwhile, in Psalm 96, the writer confidently proclaims: ‘Declare his glory among the heathen (Gentiles), his wonders among all people. For the Lord is great, and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the Lord made the heavens. Honour and majesty are before him: strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.’ (Ps.96:2-6) And in Psalm 97, we read: ‘For thou Lord, art high above all the earth: thou art exalted far above all gods.’ (Ps.97:9) And last but not least, hear Bruh Paul’s proclamation on the subject. ‘For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,) But to us there is but one God, the Father of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we (live) by him.’ (1 Cor.8:5-6) And that my brethren is the gospel truth! So today, please, let’s rethink our priorities, and give praise and thanks where praise and thanks are due – to Almighty God! That’s true wisdom. Much LOVE!…no other supposed deity…has the power of the Lord God Jehovah…for they are mere idols…creations of man…

Psalm 124:1. If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, now may Israel say;
Oh Friends, it’s Monday, that glorious day that begins our work week! Oh please stop the foolish moaning and groaning! Yuh know how many billions of people around the world would give their eye teeth to have what we have! Hn! hn! Haven’t heard that one in a while. Yes mih people, it’s time we cut out this bad habit of complaining and feeling blue every Monday morning. We all want the benefits, but not the hassles of going to work. Remember what Job told his wife when she advised him to curse God and die? He wisely informed her that we can’t expect to receive only good and no bad, because that’s just the way the universe is set up. (Job 2:9-10) And furthermore, that’s definitely not Jesus’ style! He knew His earthly purpose and took it seriously, getting up early every morning to talk quietly with the Father, to get strength and encouragement before hitting the dusty road to heal, teach and generally do good. Now if we’re truly Jesus’ followers, then that should also be our modus operandi, instead of the whining and complaining, that’s possibly caused by too much partying on the weekends, plus a natural laziness that’s recently been bred into our dissolute culture. By the way, today is certainly a glorious day for some of us who don’t have to go to work because Remembrance Day, yesterday, fell on a Sunday, which means we get Monday off for the holiday. And many of God’s people joyfully cried out: ‘Praise the Lord!’ (smile) But unfortunately many of us still have to go out and labour today, so to help and encourage them, let’s all sing our Monday Morning Battle Hymn in loud voice, with strong conviction. All together now. ‘Oh Lord God Almighty, Creator of the universe and all therein! AMEN!’ Ah mih friends, that was wonderful! Actually, the ones who aren’t going to work sang more lustily than those that have to go. (smile) But that’s the nature of the beast! Anyway, with that boost to our spirits Friends, please let’s go out there and battle mightily for Jesus. For as our Bit so rightly says: ‘If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, now may Israel say;’ It’s all about praise and deliverance from enemies my brethren. And who knows more about that than Bruh David eh? That’s why he could continue: ‘If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, when men rose up against us: Then they had swallowed us up quick (alive) when their wrath was kindled against us: Then the waters had (would have) overwhelmed us, the streams had gone (swept over) our soul: Then the proud waters had gone over (would have swept over) our soul.’ (Ps.124:2-5) Ah Friends, those are the same things our forefathers were able to say because they had the Lord God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as their stalwart knight in shining armour, fighting their battle for them. But our generation has become so proud and full of itself, beating its puny chest in false self-sufficiency, foolishly believing that we have no use for God. Oh my brethren, that is such a fallacy, such a foolish notion, as is being proven everyday by the degeneration of the supposedly Christian nations of the world. But we either refuse to see it, as the saying goes, there’s none so blind as he who refuses to see, or Lucifer’s evil machinations have simply blinded us, made us desensitized and thus indifferent to the sinful, ungodly lives we’re now not only living, but even worse, craving to live. However, Bruh David was so encouraged by the valiant help of the God of his fathers, that he further enthused: ‘Blessed be the Lord, who hath not given us as prey to their teeth. Our soul is escaped, as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers (bird trappers): the snare is broken, and we are escaped. Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.’ (Ps.124:6-8) And all God’s people declared a mighty ‘Glory Hallelujah! Praise be His Holy Name!’ And that’s the gospel truth my people! The psalmist in thanksgiving for the Lord’s salvation even went as far as to proudly declare: ‘The Lord is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?’ (Ps.118:6)And the truthful answer to that Friends, is a big, fat NOTHING! Thus Bruh Paul could also boldly declare to the church at Rome: ‘What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?’ (Rom.8:31) And the answer to that my brethren is one single word ‘NOBODY!’ Please then Friends, I’m imploring us, just like Bruh David and Bruh Paul did so valiantly, let’s rise up in faith and with the help of our omnipotent God, powerfully fight the evil spiritual forces that are trying to conquer us and lead us to everlasting death. But we can only do that when we truly and sincerely surrender our souls and put our unending trust in the ONE and ONLY TRUE GOD of the universe – the Lord of Hosts is His Name. Much LOVE!…onward Christian soldiers…marching as to war…with the CROSS OF JESUS…going on before…
