Genesis 6:5.     ​And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination (intent) of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually (all the day).

Welcome, welcome one and all, to that great day called Monday, the first day of our new work week! Now, not because I am pledging allegiance to Monday, which so many people dislike, for one reason or another, means I have lost a mental screw. In fact, I am here to inform you that I am in complete control of all my mental faculties! (smile) Ah friends, somebody must stand up for Monday as it’s so hard done by, with so much abuse and derogatory remarks unjustly hurled at it. 

And today, I’ve decided to be its white knight in shining armour! Wow! What bravery and courage! (smile) And we even going to say: ‘TGIM! Thank God it’s Monday! Time for us to rise and shine and go to work – those of us who still have jobs that is, and are actually allowed to go out in the streets! 

Ah Lord, what a life eh? Who would have thought some months ago that life would be this disastrous eh? But it is…all over the world. So why have things deteriorated so far, so fast eh? I believe there is one common denominator: SIN! Our world is so evil, sinful and wicked that it has just reached a stage where it can’t handle it comfortably anymore. Yuh know, like when yuh have a container and you’re putting stuff in it, after a while it’s reached its physical capacity, and adding anything further will cause it to break or burst, the bucket bottom drop out, or it simply overflow? 

Well that is what’s happened to our world. It’s simply reached its capacity for sin, and like a swollen river, it’s now overflowing its banks and causing havoc all over. And remember way back when, after God created man and they populated the earth, what happened? The Good Book tells us: ‘And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination (intent) of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually (all the day).’ (Gen. 6:5) 

And yuh know what mih bredrin? We’re approaching that breaking point of sinfulness again. That first time it so disappointed the Lord that the Good Book relates it thus: ‘And it repented the Lord (He was sorry) that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me (I am sorry) that I have made them.’ (Gen. 6:5-7) 

And He destroyed the earth and all its people by means of a flood, it rained steadily for forty days and forty nights. Only Noah, who found grace in the sight of the Lord, and his family and two of each of the other creations were saved in the ark the Lord instructed Noah to build. Hn! That’s certainly food for thought! 

But before we go any further, let’s clarify one thing as the scholars explain. ‘6:6-8. Repented does not imply that God made a mistake in His dealings with men, but rather indicates a change in divine direction resulting from the actions of man. It is an “anthropopathism” (a human emotion applied to God) describing the pain that is caused God by the destructiveness of His creatures. It is used 30 times with God as its subject, each time speaking of a change of mind or intention that accords with His righteous purposes, and results in action commensurate with those purposes.’ 

And yuh think our current sinfulness isn’t grieving God’s heart? For sure it is! Especially after He sacrificed His only Son Jesus Christ so that our sin debt could be paid in full and we receive salvation and everlasting life by believing in Him. That would hurt even the hardest heart, and our God’s heart is certainly not hard. It shows our ingratitude like nothing else can. 

Now I don’t know if He’s planning to destroy the world again, cause He only promised not to destroy it by water, but it’s something we should certainly consider with the heightened level of sin that’s running rampant today. But as the ole people would say; ‘time longer than twine yes,’ and the Lord might just sit down and wait and leave us to destroy our own selves, because if we continue the way we’re going, that will be the eventual outcome. 

Oh mih people, I’m sure the Lord doesn’t want to destroy us again, but if we give Him no choice, what’s He to do eh? If we continue with the obstinate and stubborn disobedience it might just come to that. But thankfully, we’re wiser and smarter than we’ve been credit for, and we’ve come to our senses and realized our behavior is indeed foolish and shortsighted and can only lead to further calamity. (smile) Thus we’ve decided to give up our sinful ways and return to the God of our forefathers in true repentance and sincerity. 

And right now we’re going to go to Him through the medium that He’s appointed, prayer – our Monday Morning Battle Hymn, and tell Him just that. So all together, let’s pray:‘Our Father, who art in heaven, we, Your humble servants, praise Your Holy Name and thank You that this Monday morning we’re alive and standing in faith despite the mass confusion that’s currently prevailing in our world. 

We desperately need Your divine help, for You are the ONLY ONE with the power to solve our many problems; the pandemic of Covid -19, the racial, political, and religious strife that’s ignited worldwide, plus the natural disasters like storms, famine, drought, plagues, climate change, wildfires, earthquakes and erupting volcanoes that suddenly seem to be blossoming more and more as time goes by. 

Heavenly Father, we admit that we have all sinned and seriously come short in obedience and compliance to Your Word, but we know that You are a merciful, forgiving and gracious God, and You have faithfully promised to hear and answer our prayers when we humble ourselves, pray, and sincerely seek Your face. That’s why we come to You now, with sincere repentance in our hearts, pleading with You to give us, ordinary folks, as well as our leaders, employers and medical personnel, wise guidance and direction to bring our problems under control. 

And for those who are currently suffering from the many negative situations, we pray that You will ease their suffering and heal them. Father, please show them Your awesome grace and mercy, and keep Your promise that You’ll hear our prayer, forgive us, and heal our land if we turn from our evil ways. Show this evil world that You are indeed Jehovah Rapha; the God who heals! We pray this in the holy and blessed name of Your Son, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! Amen! And again we say: Amen!’ 

All I can say now is that we better had pay that vow we just made to God, for as Cousin Sol so rightly says, He hath no pleasure in fools. (Eccl. 5:4) Yes friends, it’s all up to us now! Much LOVE!

…only sincere repentance can save our world…from eventual implosion…or divine intervention…

Proverbs 15:5.   A fool despiseth his father’s instruction: but he that regardeth (keeps, accepts) reproof is prudent (sensible). 

Well, well, well! If it isn’t Monday, the day the workers like to hate! (smile) But Friends, we shouldn’t hate Mondays nuh, because it’s the opening of a new work week, which also means that there can be improvement opportunities galore for many of us.
 
We should be treating Mondays like we do Fridays – celebrating it with a ‘TGIM! Thank God it’s Monday! The new work week is here, and I’m going to go out and take advantage of it, just living and working for Jesus!’
 
Don’t laugh mih brethren, it is possible to build such a relationship with Mondays, but it’s just going to take time, possibly a long while to build that positive attitude, especially since we’re already mired in the negative Monday hating and bashing.
 
But until we do get our act together in that respect, we’ll stick with our tried and true Monday Morning Battle Hymn. Now let’s sing it like we really mean it; in loud voice and perfect harmony.  
 
‘Oh Lord God Almighty, Creator of the universe and all therein! We, your humble servants, praise your Holy Name and thank you that this Monday morning we have jobs to go to; jobs we don’t like, jobs that are unfair, difficult and even dangerous, but which serve a useful purpose here on earth; keeping lives and families together.
 
We also thank you Father for the renewed vitality and enthusiasm you’ve wrought in our weary souls over the last two days. It’s that rejuvenation of Spirit which allows us now to sally forth with confidence into the evil, ungodly world that surrounds us, to begin a new week of work, constantly buffeted and bombarded by the enemy’s wicked taunts, wiles and lies.
 
But heavenly Father, we’re not afraid, for we know we’re invincible, sure conquerors, once we’re wearing your powerful, protective spiritual armour. We surrender our all to you, and humbly ask that you let your incredible aura of LOVE, the Holy Spirit, lead and guide all your servants as we go out to meet the enemy in battle.
 
Fill us with steadfast faith, so that we can make worthwhile inroads into the enemy’s ranks, and thereby further your glorious kingdom. We pray this in the Holy Name of your Son, and our Saviour, Jesus Christ. AMEN!’ 
 
Mama Mia! That certainly was a boisterous and harmonious rendition my people! Jesus even gave us a thumbs up sign! I guess we’re more prepared than we realized, to go out and do battle with the enemy in Jesus’ name.
 
And today we’ll wrap up this series of messages on this Bit. ‘A fool despiseth his father’s instruction: but he that regardeth (keeps, accepts) reproof is prudent (sensible).’ And we’ll all agree that that’s a rather truthful statement.
 
So what other Proverbs can we find to corroborate it eh? Try these: ‘The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise. He that refuseth (disdains or ignores) instruction despieth his own soul: but he that heareth (heeds, accepts) reproof getteth understanding. The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.’ (Prov.15:31-33)  
 
Yes my people, the ability to both give and receive constructive criticism is a rather important aspect of our daily lives. And it all begins with the reverence of Almighty God, from whom the much desired attribute of wisdom flows. Unfortunately though, only a small portion of our society can handle constructive criticism.
 
And in this rather judgemental society of ours, we’re all quick to criticize, but then we rise up in supposedly godly anger, when we are criticized. As the old people would say: ‘do so, ent like so.’ (smile) And that’s gospel truth Friends, for we don’t like done to us, what we gladly do to others.
 
Anyway my fellow believers, none of us is perfect – that appellation can only be applied to Jesus – neither do we all think alike, so there will inevitably be differences of opinions, but we have to be very careful, sensitive and considerate in when and how we criticize, because strife is far too often caused by unwanted and unwarranted criticism.
 
Now hear these words of wisdom from Cousin Sol. ‘Whoso LOVETH wisdom rejoiceth his father (makes his father rejoice): but he that keepeth company with harlots spendeth his substance (wastes his wealth). (Prov.29:3)  And we have a very good example of that in Jesus’ parable of the Prodigal Son.
 
And this Proverb is like unto the last one: ‘My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that reproacheth me.’ (Prov.27:11)
 
Ah Friends, as we said, it all comes down to our relationship with Almighty God, whether or not we have the wisdom and common sense to do life in a decent, constructive and LOVING manner.
 
And these last verses nicely wrap it all up. ‘The fear (reverential awe) of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother; For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.’ (Prov.1:7-9)
 
That’s it in a nutshell right there my people! The parents ought to embrace and pass on God’s law and consequently wisdom, while the children ought to hear and put it into practice in their own lives.  That’s the only way wisdom and understanding will continue to grace our planet.  
 
So please, let’s try and adhere to it nuh; make it the basis of our daily lives, so that we can learn to give and receive wise counsel, and thus greatly enhance our earthly pilgrimage. Much LOVE!
 
…to choose wisdom over folly is a blessed thing…but it doesn’t just spring up from nowhere…it has to be taught and learned…preferably starting in the home…

 

 

 

Today’s Scrip-Bit 28 October 2013 Matthew 5:8

Matthew 5:8.     Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

And before you know it, Monday has come around again… Chuh!  

Yes Friends, it’s that wonderful day called Monday! Hn, hn!  

And wonder of wonders, this morning while walking down the street, as I passed one house, a middle aged gentleman came out on to his front porch and surprised me by raising both arms, his head and eyes towards heaven and loudly declared: ‘Thank God it’s Monday, and I’m strong and healthy enough to go back out to work today and spread some joy and blessings amongst the great unwashed!’  

Ah Friends, sadly, I hear the peals of laughter ringing out, not from the unbelievers, but from the supposed believers. Shame on you all! Because you’re not doing it, doesn’t mean that others aren’t. That attitude only shows that your faith is small!   

No wonder Jesus constantly criticized the people of His day, by saying: ‘O ye of little faith.’ In the gospel of Matthew, He says it three times – Matt. 6:30; 8:26; 14:31. Today He most likely would have said it more often.  

Remember Friends, we’re supposed to live by faith and not by sight. (2 Cor. 5:7) So if we don’t believe, don’t have faith that something good is happening, or going to happen, then how can we ever see it through to fruition eh? Unless you don’t think, want, or expect Christians to change their miserable Monday Morning behaviour.  

Anyway, enough castigating and tongue lashing for today. (smile) Let’s sing our Monday Morning Battle Hymn with much gusto, verve and vitality.  

On the count of three; one, two, three: ‘Oh Lord God Almighty, Creator of the universe and all therein! We, your humble servants, praise your Holy Name and thank you that this Monday morning we have jobs to go to; jobs we don’t like, jobs that are unfair, difficult and even dangerous, but which serve a useful purpose here on earth; keeping lives and families together.  

We also thank you Father for the renewed vitality and enthusiasm you’ve wrought in our weary souls over the last two days. It’s that rejuvenation of Spirit which allows us now to sally forth with confidence into the evil, ungodly world that surrounds us, to begin a new week of work, constantly buffeted and bombarded by the enemy’s wicked taunts, wiles and lies.  

But heavenly Father, we’re not afraid, for we know we’re invincible, sure conquerors, once we’re wearing your powerful, protective spiritual armour. We surrender our all to you, and humbly ask that you let your incredible aura of LOVE, the Holy Spirit, lead and guide all your servants as we go out to meet the enemy in battle.

Fill us with steadfast faith, so that we can make worthwhile inroads into the enemy’s ranks, and thereby further your glorious kingdom. We pray this in the Holy Name of your Son, and our Saviour, Jesus Christ. AMEN!’  

That was a tremendous rendition my people! It had to be, because Jesus was singing along, snapping His fingers and tapping His feet, while the Father sat on His throne smiling, overjoyed to see His blessed Son happy with His people’s behaviour for a change.  

Now that should wake us up, put us in the right frame of mind and give us the spiritual wherewithal to go out today and successfully do battle against the awful Beelzebub and his evil minions.  

And some of our capability to do that is based, or comes in part because of our Bit: ‘Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.’ Yes Friends, when our hearts are right, then God flourishes in us!  

And we’re continuing with this Beatitude because I have some scripture to share, re the second half; ‘for they shall see God.’  

Now listen to this scripture from way back in time, when that ole scamp, that consummate smart-man, Jacob, wrestled with the angel and eventually got blessed.  

The Good Book says: ‘And Jacob asked him (the angel), and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there. And Jacob called the place Peniel (lit. Face of God): for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.’ (Gen.32:29-30)  

Ah mih breddren, who would have thought it eh? But that’s how our God operates; in mysterious ways, not using the obvious to do His will, but instead using those whom man considers useless and unfruitful to confound man. Remember His ways and thoughts are ever so much higher than ours! (Is.55:8-9)   

And as you know, whenever possible, we like to end with the potent words of Jesus. Here, He’s talking about greatness, explaining that we have to be as pure, as trusting and humble as little children to enter the kingdom of heaven. And to end that section, He says: ‘Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones: for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.’ (Matt.18:10)  

Oh my people, again we see the simplicity and straightforwardness of our heavenly Leader’s words. He keeps reading and spelling for us, so why is it so difficult to adhere to His commands eh?   I don’t know, possibly because it’s just in our nature to be rebellious and disobedient. 

And since He gave us freedom of choice, I guess we figure we have to use it in a negative light, just to prove that we can. But whatever the reason my people, turning away from our Creator, Controller and Provider is a fool’s wisdom!  

Today therefore, please let’s seriously consider our relationship to Christ, and wisely try to improve it. For that’s truly, common sense and true wisdom. Much LOVE!  

…just like a little child looks up to and trusts his earthly parents…even so should mankind look up to and trust our heavenly Father…for to know, know, know Him…is to LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Him…

 
                          

 


Today’s Scrip-Bit 26 August 2013 Psalm 37:1

Psalm 37:1:     Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.
 
Oh Friends, as Jesus opened the windows of heaven this morning, before He could even look out, an unfamiliar strain from earth reached His ears. It sounded like a chant, but one that He’d never heard before. So He leaned out the window to try and hear it better. Lo and behold my people, a warm, fuzzy smile broke out over His radiant countenance as He heard these words rising up to heaven.
 
‘TGIM! Thank God it’s Monday! Time to be up and about Jesus’ business! The battle will soon be joined, for Jesus is already at the front lines! Up and at them Christian soldiers! For the victory is ours, through Jesus! Amen!’
 
Ah Friends, what a blessed day that will be eh, when we begin the workweek in such a joyful and godly mood and state of mind! But don’t worry, we’re working on it. It will become reality in God’s good time. But until then, let’s lustily sing our Monday Morning Battle Hymn.
 
As one sweet, sounding harmonious choir now: ‘Oh Lord God Almighty, Creator of the universe and all therein! We, your humble servants, praise your Holy Name and thank you that this Monday morning we have jobs to go to; jobs we don’t like, jobs that are unfair, difficult and even dangerous, but which serve a useful purpose here on earth; keeping lives and families together.

Ah mih breddren, that was good! Jesus was pleased. So with the adrenalin pumping, the faith, strength and confidence soaring, let’s go out now and engage Lucifer and his evil buddies in a fight to the death!
 
And our Bit ties in quite nicely with all of that my people. ‘Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.’
 
Oh Friends, I know that is often very difficult to do in this evil and ungodly world, when it seems that the wicked is forever prospering, while the righteous struggle and suffer. But please remember my fellow believers, that even the psalmist and man of great faith, Asaph, also had that problem, as he tells us in Psalm 73, the mystery of prosperous wickedness.
 
‘But as for me, my feet were almost gone (I had almost stumbled); my steps had well-nigh slipped. For I was envious at the foolish (boastful), when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.’ (Ps.73:2-3) 
 
But Bruh David then tells us why we should not be jealous of the prosperous evildoers. ‘For they shall soon be cut down like the green grass, and wither as the green herb.’ (Ps.37:2)
 
Now that’s the true state of the wicked my brethren! And I’m sure we don’t want to be a member of any group that’s eventually going to be destroyed by Almighty God.
 
Note too, that Moses in his only psalm, ‘From everlasting to everlasting thou art God,’ acknowledges God’s eternal staying power and man’s short, flimsy and futile nature. ‘For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night. Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which groweth up. In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up; in the evening it is cut down and withereth.’ (Ps.90. 4-6) 
 
Meanwhile Friends, the author of Psalm 92, in his praises for the Lord’s goodness, puts it thus: ‘Oh Lord, how great are thy works! And thy thoughts are very deep. A brutish man knoweth not; neither doth a fool understand this. When the wicked spring (sprout, spring up) as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed  for ever: But thou, Lord, art most high for evermore.’ (Ps.92:5-8)
 
And that’s undeniable, unalterable, indisputable gospel truth my brethren, for our God is the Creator and Controller of this universe and all therein! Please let’s not forget that very significant and salient point, because in doing so, we jeopardize our eternal destiny. 
 
Yes Friends, with His omnipotence, omniscience and omnipresence, there’s NOTHING or NO ONE greater than Yahweh, the Most High God Jehovah, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob!
 
It thus behoves us to pay serious attention to His Word, His commands, His statutes and His dictates, if we want to live a long, prosperous and righteous life, encompassed by salvation through the sacrificial death of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, with eternal life in heavenly places as our final reward.
 
And that, my fellow believers, is true wisdom, wisdom of the everlasting kind! Much LOVE!
 
…wickedness will never prosper for very long…because in the eyes of our righteous and just God…it is an abomination to His exalted Being…and therefore must be destroyed… 
 
 

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

 

Today’s Scrip-Bit 18 February 2013 John 11:35

John 11:35.          JESUS WEPT.

Oh Friends, it’s Monday! And surprisingly there’s a smattering of applause, along with a few shouts of ‘TGIM! Thank God is Monday yes!’ Wow! It’s taking hold people, we’re being a little more receptive to Mondays than we were. (smile) We still have a long way to go though, before we come to the stage where Monday’s don’t bother us, where Jesus is satisfied with our attitude towards the workweek. But thankfully, while there’s life, there’s always hope. So hopefully one day we’ll attain that eager beaver attitude to get up and go out to labour on a Monday with a big grin on our faces, joy in our hearts and the steadfast determination to excel at whatever we do in Jesus’ name, obviously with His awesome help. Yes Friends, I am hoping for plenty, dreaming very large. But until such time we’ll continue to sing our Monday Morning Battle Hymn. And today’s a lucky day for some of us in Ontario where it’s a holiday, celebrating Family Day. So if you’re one of the lucky ones that get to stay home today, please sing with great gusto and enthusiasm to encourage those who have to go out and labour. So in unison, sweet harmony and vocal strength, let’s sing. ‘Oh Lord God Almighty, Creator of the universe and all therein! AMEN!’ And now that we’ve got our motors running, heading for the highway – as I believe it’s BTO – Bachman, Turner Overdrive- sings in their song, (smile) let’s try and keep that verve and excitement going all day nuh, show unbelievers what a good example of true Christianity looks like in action. And Jesus just lifted His right hand, fist clenched in a power salute, and joyously declared: ‘Right on brethren!’ And that’s no joke Friends, for Jesus is always pleased when we perform as we ought to. He’s definitely not a one dimensional Being. Just as our Bit can say: ‘JESUS WEPT,’ because He was sad, He also shows joy when He’s pleased. Now yesterday we saw how our Saviour wept, sadly adding His outpouring of grief at Lazarus’s death with the family and other mourners. But that’s not the only time the Scriptures say He wept. Luke describes how on Palm Sunday just before His triumphal entry into Jerusalem, when the disciples and other believers were rejoicing and praising God, some of the Pharisees told Him to rebuke the disciples and make them stop. (Luke 19:39) Ostensibly, as the scholars suggest, because all the tumultuous activity would bring the wrath of the Roman soldiers down on them. And also because they didn’t want to see Jesus proclaimed king. But Jesus answered them: ‘I tell you that, if these should hold their peace (keep silent), the stones would immediately cry out.’ (Luke 19:40) The scholars’ think that reply might have referred to Habakkuk 2: 11. Please look that up for yourselves. Anyway, the Good Book continues: ‘And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it.’ (Luke 19:41) Then He spoke about it’s destruction in the not too distant future, (Luke 19:42-44) possibly the Roman devastation of A.D. 70. The scholars’ comment on that scripture thus: ‘Jesus laments over Jerusalem. He was not fooled by the ardour of the welcoming mob. The picture is one of Jesus being overcome with emotion following the months or years of preparation for a ministry whose terrible climax would take place here.’ So it seems He didn’t shed tears like at Lazarus’ grave, but here it was more of an internal crying, a weeping of His heart. And that Friends, brings us to the finale, (smile) two basic points. First that Jesus felt and experienced all the human emotions, suffering, joy, disappointments, the highs and lows that we feel because His ‘humanness’ was for real. Therefore, since He experienced all, and even much more than we’ll ever go through here on earth, it definitely qualifies Him to be a most powerful intercessor and advocate for us at the right hand of the Father’s throne. It’s as they say: ‘He who feels it, knows it.’ And Jesus certainly felt it! So my brethren, let’s not be afraid to call on Him for all our needs, both in the good times and the bad, because no one else understands what we’re going through down here on earth better than Him, since He experienced it all first hand, and thus has a deep compassion and empathy for our hardships. That’s why He’s our bright and shining star; both of the day and night! No one else can ever attain such majesty. Much LOVE!…until you walk a mile in my shoes…you’ll never really know my troubles…thank God Jesus did that yes…

Psalm 8:9.     O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

Oh Friends, it’s Monday…! And my pronouncement brings a sudden burst of joyous shouts of ‘TGIM! Thank God it’s Monday! Time to get out there and work for Jesus!’ Wow! Wonders never cease, but daily they increase! Ah mih people, I’m not idly day-dreaming, for if we live long enough, sooner or later we’re going to get that energetic and enthusiastic response on a Monday Morning. Right now the response is not as good as it could or should be, but it’s getting better with each passing week, and when the LOVE Revolution gets into full stride, that’s the genuine response Christ’s people will have. They’ll be ever so eager to get out into the wicked world and join the battle with Beelzebub and his evil cohorts. But until then, we still need to sing our Monday Morning Battle Hymn to put us in the mood, to kick start our motors. So let’s raise our voices in song to heaven with much enthusiasm. Fake it if you have to. (smile) But do raise your voices loud and clear. All together now: ‘Oh Lord God Almighty, Creator of the universe and all therein! We, your humble servants, praise your Holy Name and thank you that this Monday morning we have jobs to go to; jobs we don’t like, jobs that are unfair, difficult and even dangerous, but which serve a useful purpose here on earth; keeping lives and families together. We also thank you Father for the renewed vitality and enthusiasm you’ve wrought in our weary souls over the last two days. It’s that rejuvenation of Spirit which allows us now to sally forth with confidence into the evil, ungodly world that surrounds us, to begin a new week of work, constantly buffeted and bombarded by the enemy’s wicked taunts, wiles and lies. But heavenly Father, we’re not afraid, for we know we’re invincible, sure conquerors, once your powerful, protective aura hovers over us. We surrender our all to you, and humbly ask that your Holy Spirit lead and guide all your servants as we go out to meet the enemy in battle. Fill us with steadfast faith, so that we can make worthwhile inroads into the enemy’s ranks, and thereby further your glorious kingdom. We pray this in the Holy Name of your Son, and our Saviour, Jesus Christ. AMEN!’ Now that wasn’t too bad, but definitely not as good as it has been. There were too many obvious fakers. Anyway, the most important results were obtained; it got our adrenalin bubbling, and our minds focused on Jesus. Now let’s turn to a most appropriate Bit for today. ‘O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!’ And all God’s people declared: ‘Glory Hallelujah! Our God is indeed great! He is the ONE AND ONLY TRUE GOD, and most worthy to be praised!’ And that’s the gospel truth Friends! Our Bit comes from Psalm 8, where Bruh David talks about God’s glory and man’s honour. But my people, are we truly upholding those two principles? When you look at the evil, ungodly way our society behaves, you tend to doubt it very much. But it’s what we ought to do, how we ought to behave. It’s our bounden duty as believers to exalt and glorify our God, and to live honourably with each other. But sadly in these evil, disastrous times, those are two other things that have become the exceptions rather than the rule. When we should all be running to God for succour and solace, foolishly, we are running away from Him. My brethren, please listen to what our actions should rightly be, coming from Psalm 113 – God’s mercies are many. ‘Praise ye the Lord (Sing Hallelujah). Praise, O ye servants of the Lord, praise the name of the Lord. Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time forth and for evermore. From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the Lord’s name is to be praise. The Lord is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens. Who is like unto the Lord our God, who dwelleth on high, who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth!’ (Ps.113:1-6) Yes Friends, that’s what our words and behaviour ought to proclaim! Now let’s reinforce that with more truthful words from Psalm 148 – All creation to praise the Lord. The psalmist first calls out individually to each of God’s creations to praise Him, then ends: ‘Let them praise the name of the Lord: for his name alone is excellent (exalted); his glory is above the earth and heaven. He also exalteth the horn (strength, dominion) of his people, the praise of al his saints; even of the children of Israel, a people near unto him. Praise ye the Lord (sing Hallelujah).’ (Ps.148:13-14) Oh my people, why aren’t God’s creations praising Him the way we should eh? And don’t say because we’re too busy living our daily lives, for that’s hogwash, since our God desperately wants to get involved in all that we do, morning, noon and night. If anybody should be involved in all aspects of our lives, it’s Him! The truth I believe, is that we’re too taken up with false glitz and glamour of the world, and are constantly pursuing and acquiring its wealth and material possessions. That obviously leaves little or no time for God. Plus we feel that if we are true to God, then we’ll have to give up the things of the world. Now that’s true to a certain extent, especially when we begin to worship them, to see them as the be all and end all of our lives. But true believers, as I keep saying, have nice worldly things, not in spite of, but because they are blessed by God for their faith and sincere fellowship with Him. Remember Jesus also told us in no uncertain terms that if we set the kingdom of God as our first priority, that all of our needs would be met. (Matt.6:33) Obviously we all won’t live in wealth and splendour, but we won’t lack for anything in our day to day existence. But that doesn’t seem good enough for too many of us, so therefore we keep running down the things of the world. And don’t forget what the preacher told us in yesterday’s Bit; that it’s useless, futile, and vain to spend our lives amassing worldly possessions, since we can’t take any of them with us, when we return naked to the dust from whence we came naked. (Eccl.5:15) And we’ll end with some more truthful words from Psalm 113 – The greatness of the Lord and the vanity of idols. ‘Praise ye the Lord. Praise ye the name of the Lord; praise him, O ye servants of the Lord. Ye that stand in the house of the Lord, in the courts of the house of our God. Praise the Lord; for the Lord is good: sing praise unto his name; for it is pleasant…. For I know that the Lord is great, and that out Lord is above all gods.’ (Ps.135:1-3, 5) That says it all Friends! So today, let’s seriously ponder our reactions to the things of the world and to the things of God, and begin having them lean towards the latter nuh. That’s the ultimate in wisdom. Much LOVE!…a fool and his earthly possessions…are soon parted…but a wise man in tune with Jesus…lives richly forever…

Psalm 126:5.     They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.
 
Aw Friends, it’s Monday again… And behold I am suddenly bombarded by hooting and hollering, clapping and joyful shouts of ‘TGIM! Thank God it’s Monday!’ Hn! And see me just standing there nuh, rooted to the ground in shock, my mouth and eyes opened wide in surprise and amazement. Okay, okay, so I have the cold, and it might just be making me a touch light-headed. But doesn’t that reaction to a Monday morning just sound wonderful? God’s children ecstatic to go out on the first day of the work week, couldn’t be anything but wonderful…and miraculous too! That’s what I’m hoping for, working towards and praying on. And one day, with the Good Lord’s help obviously, I’m going to achieve that goal, because I believe, and I have faith. (smile) Oh my people, for the few that are above par this morning, and for the many that are sub-par, let’s sing our Monday Morning Battle Hymn as if we really mean it nuh. Let’s put our whole being into it. Let’s wake up the heavenly hosts this morning with a real rousing rendition of our battle Hymn. All together now: ‘Oh Lord God Almighty, Creator of the universe and all therein! We, your humble servants, praise your Holy Name and thank you that this Monday morning we have jobs to go to; jobs we don’t like, jobs that are unfair, difficult and even dangerous, but which serve a useful purpose here on earth; keeping lives and families together. We also thank you Father for the renewed vitality and enthusiasm you’ve wrought in our weary souls over the last two days. Fill us with steadfast faith, so that we can make worthwhile inroads into the enemy’s ranks, and thereby further your glorious kingdom. We pray this in the Holy Name of your Son, and our Saviour, Jesus Christ. AMEN!’ Awright mih breddren! All heaven sat up and took notice, riotously applauded and even gave us a Standing O. Wow! Let’s go out now and put all those daring words into action and make Jesus real proud of us. Yes my fellow followers of Christ, though it’s hard on plenty of us this Monday morning, let’s get out there and bring what our Bit says to fulfilment. ‘They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.’ And that’s the gospel truth Friends! As the verse after the Bit rightly declares: ‘He that goeth forth (to and fro) and weepeth, bearing precious seed (for sowing), shall doubtless come again with rejoicing (shouts of joy), bringing his sheaves with him.’ (Ps.126:6) And I’m talking here from hard, personal experience, not hearsay, because right now I’m feeling crappy, what with the constant sneezing, my nose sore and running like a pipe and all the various other aspects of the common cold, but the Lord, in His eternal wisdom raised the level of joy in my spirit, caused me to write our entertaining intro, then led me to an appropriate Bit. There were some other interesting ones, but as soon as I saw that one, I knew that it was destined for today. Chuh! I hate having to stop every so often and gingerly wipe my sore nose! But anyway mih people, let’s ramp up our joy today nuh! As I keep reminding us, Christians should be the happiest and most joyful people on planet earth. What with all the good news and stuff we have to look forward to in communion with Jesus, who wouldn’t be joyful eh? But sadly, we’re still some of the most rude, grouchy, unmannerly, gloomy, miserable, resentful people around, even though we live in one of the most prosperous and free areas of the world. Now let’s look at some scripture that talks about the joy of the believer, the joy inherent in believing. First off is Isaiah, re Israel restored to the glory of Zion. ‘And the ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.’ (Is.35:10) And Isaiah was so sure of that promise, that he repeats it almost word for word in Chapter 51:11. Please read that for yourself. Meanwhile, Jeremiah, also in talking about the restoration of Israel, proudly proclaims: ‘They shall come with weeping, and with supplications will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters in a straight way, wherein they shall not stumble: for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my first born. Hear the word of the Lord, O ye nations, and declare it in the isles (coastlands) afar off, and say, He that scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd doth his flock. For the Lord hath redeemed Jacob, and ransomed him from the hand of him that was stronger than he. Therefore they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall flow together to the goodness of the Lord, for wheat, and for (new) wine, and for oil, and for the young of the flock and of the herd: and their soul shall be as a (well) watered garden; and they shall not sorrow anymore at all. Then shall the young virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow. And I will satiate (fill) the soul of the priests with fatness (abundance), and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, saith the Lord.’ (Jer.31:9-14) Oh Friends, I didn’t plan to put in all of that, but after reading it, and hearing the wonderful promises, I had no choice. That means we’ll have to leave the rest until tomorrow, God willing. But my people, what more can we ask of our great, LOVING, merciful and forgiving God eh? Nothing really! For He’s kept all of His promises, given us His heart of LOVE, His Holy Spirit, and His sacrificed Son. There’s no more left to give, so let’s appreciate it, and as obedient followers, go out and do the same; give of ourselves, sow good seeds even in our most difficult times, so that eventually we shall reap an abundant harvest of joy. That’s our raison d’être here on earth. So let’s do it without too much complaining. Remember, Jesus never complained about the terrible ordeal He suffered to save our unworthy sinful souls, and neither should we. Much LOVE!…remember that old hymn…bringing in the sheaves…bringing in the sheaves…we shall come rejoicing…bringing in the sheaves…
