The Importance of Understanding God’s Grace as it pertains to Believers’ Weaknesses

Today’s Scrip-Bit   2 October 2026   2 Corinthians 12:10b.

2 Corinthians 12:10b.         for when I am weak, then am I strong.

And then it was Friday, that long awaited day. And though the morning opened somewhat damp and cloudy after a little overnight rain, the Friday Mantra still went up loud and clear to heaven. ‘TGIF! Thank God it’s Friday, and the weekend is here at last!’ It seems like very little will stop us from welcoming the weekend and the two days break it gives us from work. But let’s remember that Jesus is always with us; always walking by our side, so whatever our circumstance, there’s no need to fear, because He is our Guiding Light and Shining Star, our Cloud by day and Fire by night. And all of God’s people said, ‘Amen!”

Now, remember yesterday we were talking about living life forward but only understanding it backward? Well last night while running through the day’s events in my mind, I discovered one such situation in my day, and it made me chuckle, for God does really move in mysterious ways. It so happens that yesterday morning I went to do a blood test. Got to the lab around 8 a.m. only to find some two dozen people waiting in line before me. Now, my patience is not the greatest, and when I saw the crowd, I wasn’t pleased, but since the blood work required fasting and an early morning withdrawal, I decided to stick around instead of retuning home to fast again and go back even earlier the next morning.

So I stood up in the narrow corridor with two dozen other people as the line slowly snaked around to the door of the lab. And would you believe it, I stood there for fifty minutes, quite pleasant and not feeling overmuch pain from the old joints, while the majority of the others were entranced with some nonsense on their phones. What struck me as funny last night was that if you had asked me to stand anywhere for fifty minutes with only a wall to lean on, I would have said I couldn’t do it, but yesterday I didn’t have that much trouble doing it.

And why was that? I finally discovered that it was through God’s grace. Remember we talked about Bruh Paul’s situation with the thorn in his body, where God  refused to remove it, because His grace was sufficient for whatever state of weakness he found himself in. The same goes for us; God will always be pouring out His unfailing grace to us in any situation of weakness. And that’s exactly what He did for me yesterday morning, while standing for so long in that line at the lab. Yes, God gave me divine strength, empowered me to stand strong despite my physical weakness.

And our God is so contrary, that although we were talking about grace being sufficient soon after than situation occurred, He didn’t chose to remind me about it until late in the night. I guess he wanted me to write about it today, rather than yesterday. (smile) And since the Lord told Bruh Paul that His grace was sufficient for all he needed to do, I guess he could rightly  say: ‘Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.’ (2 Cor. 12:10b)

Yes friends, when we are weak in our own strength, then are we ever so powerful with God’s divine strength through the power of His awesome grace.  But the problem here my fellow believers is that we need to believe it with all of our hearts, bodies, souls and minds, for if we don’t believe it, and grow strong in spiritual maturity, it won’t happen. And we only grow strong in spiritual maturity when we experience hard times and see God pull us through them. That means the next time it won’t be so hard. And it gets easier with each problem we endure and solve with God’s help.

That’s why these wonderful words of wisdom from Cousin Sol in Proverbs are so important in our Christian walk. ‘Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct (make straight or smooth) thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear (reverence) the Lord, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel (body), and marrow (strength) to thy bones.’ (Prov. 3:5-8) Oh my people, that’s the essence of our Christian  faith in a few words! Follow it, and you can never go wrong. So let’s spend some time contemplating those words today and then making any necessary changes, obviously with God’s help.

Now, let’s go to the throne of grace, through our Friday Chant, seeking divine aid for the numerous problems we have in our world. Altogether: ‘Oh Lord, thanks for getting me safely through another week of work. It hasn’t been easy, but with your generous help, I made it through. You know our many serious problems are escalating instead of improving, and we desperately need your help to fix them. Heavenly Father, with your omnipotent help, and our trusting faith, we know that we can stand strong and steadfast and defeat the simmering unrest in our land. So please give our leaders the wise guidance to handle these unexpected storms properly.

And despite the anxiety and confusion of these ungodly times, help us to be responsible, and get sufficient fun, fellowship, rest and relaxation in these two short days off, so that we can be renewed and refreshed in soul, body and mind, to go back out next week and further your glorious kingdom by the good example we, your faithful believers set. So that our sinful world can wake up and smell the coffee, wake up and smell it sweet and strong! We pray this in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! Amen!’

And having said all of that, let’s not get too full of ourselves, because we Christians also need to wake and smell the coffee, since our witness for Christ is clearly unacceptable. So let’s wake up, smell that coffee sweet and strong, then get out into the world and do a better job for Christ! It’s what He expects of us! Much LOVE!

…God never leaves the faithful in the lurch…His grace is always there to help…
