Psalm 89:1. I will sing of the mercies of the Lord for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.
Oh Friends, mea culpa, mea culpa, mea culpa! Truthfully, I don’t know what happened this morning. I went to bed at my normal hour, around two o’clock, expecting to get up by seven. Unfortunately though I got up after five to go to the bathroom and after that… Lord have mercy, I just turned and tossed, trying to find a comfortable position to ease the pain in my aching shoulders. Steups!
Somewhere along the line, I must have eventually fallen asleep because when I did open my eyes, it was after eight. And to make matters even worse, I got up with a cramp in my left thigh! Glory Hallelujah! What more can I say eh? (smile) And now I’m drinking a cup of caffeine that really doesn’t thrill me – not strong or sweet enough, but since I’m trying to cut back on my coffee and sugar intake, I just have to grin and bear it.
And those are my early morning woes! (smile) But yuh know what my people, I’m still very glad and thankful to be alive, regardless of my petty inconveniences. Lots of others have it much worse than you and I, so please let’s not complain too much when we’re beset by unfortunate circumstances.
Let’s just learn to take it in our stride, knowing that our wonderful God is looking after our every move. And though we might not understand how and why, He’s working it all out for our good. He has promised that and He ALWAYS fulfills His promises. So though the morning has begun on a somewhat rough note, I’m sure it will end up very well. Glory to God!
And my Friends, this morning I have a poem to share with you from the One Year Book of Bible Promises with writings by Ruth Harms Calkin. It describes us to a T. When I read it yesterday, I just had to laugh. It’s titled ‘What Is Your Schedule, God?’
And it reads: ‘Lord Many years ago Martin Luther said “It’s God’s nature To make something out of nothing. That is why God cannot make anything Out of him who is yet nothing.” In ways I had never anticipated, Lord Slowly but persistently You continue Your hammering and crushing In every hidden crevice of my life.
You seem determined to reduce me to nothing In order to make me something. I wonder… What is Your schedule, God? As You creatively continue To reshape and remake me How long will the process last? Lord, could You hurry a little?’
Oh Friends, doesn’t that sound just like us? The Lord’s trying to remake us in the image of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, but it doesn’t happen easily or quickly, and having become accustomed to the easy life and impatience of our times, we can’t stand the pain or the waiting. We want to be a beautiful image of Christ, but we don’t want to suffer the changes or spend the time necessary on the potter’s wheel of the Lord.
And the promise for that poem is a rather appropriate one. ‘Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform (complete) it until the day of Jesus.’ (Phil.1:6)
Yes my fellow believers, our God will continue whatever work He has begun in us until that day that Jesus returns in all His splendour and glory. So there’s no need to worry about what we’re going through, for we have a Master Builder and Master Potter looking after us.
That’s why Friends, we can confidently say like the Ethan the Ezrahite in our Bit: ‘I will sing of the mercies of the Lord for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.’
Yes my people, though it is indeed our duty to pass on the Lord’s goodness and faithfulness to the up and coming generations, our souls should be so full of the joy of the Lord that all those things should just come naturally to us.
And there’s no better example of that than Bruh David in his songs. Listen to this one, his psalm of thanksgiving, when the Ark of the Covenant was brought up to Jerusalem.
‘Then on that day David delivered first this psalm to thank the Lord into the hand of Asaph and his brethren. Give thanks unto the Lord, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people. Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him, talk ye of all his wondrous works.
Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the Lord. Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his face continually. Remember his marvellous works that he hath done, his wonders, and the judgement of his mouth; O ye seed of Israel his servant, ye children of Jacob, his chosen ones.
He is the Lord our God; his judgements are in all the earth. Be ye mindful always of his covenant; the word which he commanded to a thousand generations; Even of the covenant which he made with Abraham, and of his oath unto Isaac; and hath confirmed the same to Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant,
Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot (allotment) of your inheritance. When ye were but few, even a few, and strangers in it. And when they went from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another people. He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for their sakes, Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.
Sing unto the Lord, all the earth; show forth from day to day his salvation. Declare his glory among the heathen; his marvellous works among all the nations. For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised: he also is to be feared (held in reverential awe) above all gods.’ (1 Chr.16:7-25)
Oh Friends, we have to stop there, because the psalm is at least half as long again, and we don’t have the time nor space to capture it all. But it does show how Bruh David tied in all the different aspects of Israel’s dealings with their God. It was also a teaching tool, so that the people could learn of Israel’s history, something to be orally passed down to the generations, since writing and reading weren’t as universal as they are today.
Let us therefore remember Friends, not only the Lord’s goodness to Israel in their time, but also His LOVING-kindness to us in these trying days. And thus cause our voices to be raised in song, in thanksgiving for His everlasting mercies to us, His people, the flock of His pasture, so that others can hear it, and come to know Him like we do. That is indeed heavenly wisdom. Much LOVE!
…to true followers of Jesus…singing His praises…ought to come naturally and constantly…as breathing His breath of life…

Psalm 89:1. I will sing of the mercies of the Lord for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.
Oh Friends, please sing this ode to Wednesday with me. ‘Wednesday, oh Wednesday, the middle day of the workweek. Wednesday, oh Wednesday, you make me forget Monday and Tuesday.
Wednesday, oh Wednesday, you show me that there’s no going backward, only forward. Wednesday, oh Wednesday, you bring me ever closer to Friday and the weekend. Oh how I LOVE you Wednesday!’
Yes mih people, just a little fun to stir up our souls on this chilly Wednesday winter’s morn, after a hectic St. Paddy’s Day. Hope the green beer and other strange coloured beverages didn’t or don’t wreak too much havoc on you all. (smile) Thankfully I stayed away from it all, but not from the late night, hence my late awakening.
Now what shall we preamble about today eh? And I just saw the perfect preamble for today! It’s a poem on a birthday card I received last year. It was just sitting at the edge of my desk, and I was wondering why it was there. But after reading the words that covered the outside, I realized why.
Listen to these beautiful words and sentiments. I don’t know if I’ve shared them before, but I must have, because they’re so beautiful and appropriate for our time. But like most beautiful words and sentiments, they are definitely worth sharing again. The poem’s titled: ‘Each Day Is a Gift from God.’
Please say with me: ‘He has given us morning, brightness, and sun, Laughter to share, and work to be done. He has given us rainbows, flowers, and song, And the hands of our dear ones to help us along. He has given us prayer, with its wonderful power To lighten our hearts in a troublesome hour. He has given us blessings to brighten our way, And always – the gift of another new day.’
Wow mih people! It’s all so wonderful and true! But do we really appreciate it all? I don’t think so nuh, otherwise our spirits and souls would not be as troubled as they are. And many of us unfortunately just take the beautiful things of nature and blessings of God for granted.
However Friends, we shouldn’t be doing that, because then we foolishly shortchange ourselves of the joy of God, and also shortchange the Lord in giving Him His rightful due of thanks and praise, so it just turns into a lose – lose situation.
Instead, we ought to be doing as our Bit so wisely declares: ‘I will sing of the mercies of the Lord for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.’
What wisdom Friends! And why should we do that? Ethan the Ezrahite, author of the psalm tells us why, as he continues: ‘For I have said, Mercy (LOVING-kindness) shall be built up for ever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens.
I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant, Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Selah.’ (Ps.89:2-4)
Yes my people, for all those wonderful promises, which have been fulfilled and passed down to us, we too should be joyfully singing of God’s great mercies and LOVING-kindness!
Now let’s check out a couple of other scriptures that encourage us to sing praises and thanks unto the Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
In Psalm 95 – A psalm of praise to the great God – the psalmist joyfully proclaims: ‘O come let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise (shout joyfully) to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise (shout joyfully) unto him with psalms (songs). For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all Gods.’ (Ps.95:1-3)
Oh Friends, there’s nothing but gospel truth in those statements, statements to which we should all be adhering to!
Then in Psalm 100 – A call to praise God – the psalmist also proclaims with great wisdom: ‘Make a joyful noise (shout joyfully) unto the Lord, all ye lands (the entire earth). Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.’ (Ps.100:1-5)
Oh my people, with all the good things we have coming from our magnificent and magnanimous God, how can we not be thankful and appreciative eh, and make us just want to burst out in song, to sing His wonderful praises, and glorify His holy name!
It ought to be the natural reaction of a true believer, one who has put their sincere faith and trust in Jehovah God, and is enjoying His blessings, mercies, forgiveness and LOVING-kindness!
Oh my fellow believers, please, oh please, let’s try and rectify that situation nuh, by increasing our appreciation of God’s goodness, and thus being ever more willing to break out in song, giving thanks and praises to the Most High God, for all He’s done, is doing, and has promised to do for us.
That is certainly the wisdom of the truly wise! Much LOVE!
…it is meet and right…for followers of Jesus…to break out in praiseful song…every time they consider His goodness…

Psalm 25:12. What man is he that feareth the Lord? Him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose.
Ah mih people, we have to start it off on a positive note, else we’ll just make a shambles of the whole day. And per this quote from one Lewis K. Bendele (couldn’t find any pertinent info on him): ‘A man without a plan for the day is lost before he starts.’
And that’s gospel truth my brethren! We have to begin the day with at least some idea of where we want to go and what we want do, else we’re liable to go nowhere and do nothing at all.
And as we keep saying, the best way to start the day is in conversation with our heavenly Father; thank Him for life and all our other blessings, then tell Him our desires and ask what He wants us to do. Have no fear, if we are truly sincere in our desire to be obedient to Him, He will guide us to His will.
So without further ado, let’s get to our Monday Morning Battle Hymn, and sing it with great gusto, in thrilling harmony. As one now: ‘Oh Lord God Almighty, Creator of the universe and all therein! We, your humble servants, praise your Holy Name and thank you that this Monday morning we have jobs to go to; jobs we don’t like, jobs that are unfair, difficult and even dangerous, but which serve a useful purpose here on earth; keeping lives and families together.
We also thank you Father for the renewed vitality and enthusiasm you’ve wrought in our weary souls over the last two days. It’s that rejuvenation of Spirit which allows us now to sally forth with confidence into the evil, ungodly world that surrounds us, to begin a new week of work, constantly buffeted and bombarded by the enemy’s wicked taunts, wiles and lies.
But heavenly Father, we’re not afraid, for we know we’re invincible, sure conquerors, once we’re wearing your powerful, protective spiritual armour. We surrender our all to you, and humbly ask that you let your incredible aura of LOVE, the Holy Spirit, lead and guide all your servants as we go out to meet the enemy in battle.
Fill us with steadfast faith, so that we can make worthwhile inroads into the enemy’s ranks, and thereby further your glorious kingdom. We pray this in the Holy Name of your Son, and our Saviour, Jesus Christ. AMEN!’
Now that was a good rendition Friends. It didn’t cause heaven to give us a standing ‘O’ or call for an encore, (smile) but it had them all paying attention. So now with our motors running and the adrenalin just driving them, let’s go out and put into action the plan the Lord has devised for us today.
And our Bit thoroughly backs up all that we’ve said above. ‘What man is he that feareth the Lord? Him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose.’ And as we said yesterday, we do the same thing for those who choose to follow us, so why wouldn’t the Lord?
Now listen to Bruh David earlier on in Psalm 25. ‘Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he will teach sinners in the way. The meek (humble) will he guide in judgement (justice): and the meek will he teach his way. All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies.’ (Ps.25:8-10)
Yes Friends, the Lord our God is indeed a wonderful deity and will NEVER reject or turn away anyone who comes to Him with a sincere heart and desire to serve Him. He will most definitely give them the opportunity to learn His ways, nurturing them like children at school.
And Bruh David in Psalm 37 – The true state of the wicked – wraps it all up thus: ‘The steps of a good man are ordered (established) by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand. I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed (descendants) begging bread.
He is ever (always) merciful, and lendeth; and his seed (descendants) is blessed. Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore. For the Lord LOVETH judgement (justice), and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.’ (Ps.37:23-26)
Oh my brethren, Bruh David has said it all right there. The Lord is a fair and just God, who will fight for and uphold those who truly desire to serve Him. The sincere man will lend and show mercy to those in need, and his descendants will not suffer want. As Bruh David says, he’s never seen them ‘begging bread.’ Neither have I.
Meanwhile, the wicked and their seed will be destroyed, face eternal separation from the Father. So I can’t understand why we are so hot to trot after Lucifer and his fleshly, evil ways, since that will only bring destruction. So please Friends, let’s smarten up and do the wise and sensible thing nuh; live for Jesus. There is so much evidence to prove that that is wisdom of the highest order, and we ignore it at our peril.
So now that we have our plan for the day, made in conjunction with God, let’s go out and work that plan, obviously with the help of Jesus, for He is indeed the Way, the Truth and the Life, and no man comes to the Father but through Him! Much LOVE!
…as for me and mine…we will follow the Lord…

Psalm 10:4. The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God. God is not in all his thoughts. (All his thoughts are, there is no God).
Oh Friends, I’m cogitating, considering, pondering, thinking how to start the Bit on this spring-like Saturday morning! (smile) Obviously the brain isn’t coming up with anything that will grab my readers’ attention right off the bat, as a good author is supposed to do.
But in self-defence, I plead the fact that I’m a mere human, and thus liable to lapses and breakdowns in my mental functions, especially at my advanced age. In other words Friends, the ole fella’s suffering a brain cramp. (smile).
However though, on a serious note, I do have the perfect way to continue our discourse, and that’s by asking us all to pray for the healing and relief from pain of a friend and fellow church goer, who has recently been diagnosed with some form of stomach cancer. I won’t mention her name because she’s a very private person, and when she reads this – yes, she is a member of our Scrip-Bit family- I know she will be embarrassed.
But that’s okay, I don’t think she’ll mind too much if our prayers and good wishes help her to handle her tough situation with Christ-like courage and faith. I guess we can call her the Unknown Cancer Fighter, for she is a fighter, and the Lord in His great wisdom will know whom we are talking about.
Remember prayer is the most powerful force on earth, so please let’s use it to help alleviate her unfortunate situation. And what’s great about prayer is that even when our prayers haven’t been answered, just knowing that there are fellow believers out there caring, rooting and praying for us, that fellowship gives us a lift, boosts our emotional state. So please, let’s remember our Scrip-Bit family member, the Unknown Cancer Fighter in our prayers.
And for this Saturday morning we also have a quote to make us get up off our fat fannies. (smile) It’s one I received a couple of days ago from my friend Anselm, inspiring us for a better tomorrow. It says: ‘Get going. Move forward. Aim High. Plan a takeoff. Don’t just sit on the runway and hope someone will come along and push the airplane. It simply won’t happen. Change your attitude and gain some altitude. Believe me, you’ll love it up here.’
And that’s a challenge we all ought to accept my brethren, because we have become a lazy, slovenly, uninspired society, spoiled by the relative ease of life that we enjoy. And life will never improve, but just keep deteriorating, if we don’t get up and get a move on. Friends, that also goes for believers, because we too have been very lazy, wishy-washy and non-committal to our Christian tasks.
That’s one of the reasons why the dark and evil aspects of our society are currently in the ascendance over the good, Christian, spiritual forces. We can’t just sit down and expect things to get better my people. We have to do positive and constructive stuff to make them improve. And it’s only by bonding together, like the true church of Christ, not in small petty divisions, that we can wield real power and make a real difference, bring about much needed improvements to our crazy mixed up world.
And why is our world in such a mess? Because the wicked are ruling it! And here is what the psalmist says about the wicked in Psalm 10, from which our Bit comes. ‘The wicked in his pride doth persecute (hotly pursues) the poor: let them be taken in the devices (plots) that they have imagined (devised).
For the wicked boasteth of his heart’s desire, and blesseth the covetous (greedy), whom the Lord abhorreth. The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in his thoughts. (All his thoughts are, there is no God)’ (Ps.10:2-4)
Oh Friends that’s true in one sense, but not so much in another. Yes, the wicked is too proud to seek God, and He doesn’t sit and meditate on His word, but God is in his thoughts in the sense that he is very aware of Him, of His might and power, and thus plots to destroy Him and all those who follow Him.
But as Bruh David declares in Psalm 14 – The foolishness of men: ‘The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. The Lord looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. They are all gone aside, they are altogether become filthy (corrupt): there is none that doeth good, no, not one.’ (Ps.14:1-3)
Oh my people, that’s a rather harsh judgement of our fellow man, but unfortunately there are too many who are wicked and live their lives doing evil instead of good. Corruption is the middle name for our world right now. And it is our job as believers and followers of Jesus Christ to break down those evil walls and systems of the wicked and corrupt.
But we won’t be able to make even a dent in the world of wickedness unless we become active rather than passive, and come together in true power, rather than in small, unable to do much alone divisions. Friends, our world is desperately crying out for a LOVE Revolution; the LOVE Revolution of Jesus Christ and His followers!
Are we going to move it along, or are we just going to rest on our laurels and let it stagnate and finally drift into oblivion? I do hope not, else Jesus’ death and all His ‘sufferation’ on our behalf would be a wasted effort.
And I’m sure that we don’t want to remembered as the generation that let Jesus down. So please, let’s get our act together nuh, remember there is strength in numbers, and let’s get going to retake our world. It’s the only way it will improve. Much LOVE!
…and He said unto them…go ye into all the world…and preach the gospel to every creature… (Mark 16:15)

1 Corinthians 3:11. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Oh Friends, oh Friends, it seems that a late night has begotten an even later morning. Hn, hn! You know I was up at around five a.m, even before the duchess’ alarm went off. And even if I don’t get up just then, I usually get up and see her safely off to work shortly after six.
But this morning I didn’t even know when she left the bedroom, much less the house. The Lord in His everlasting wisdom obviously realized that I was in no fit shape to write such a profound document as the Bit. (smile) And the ole body obviously needed more rest, so He allowed me to sleep in.
And I was quite surprised when I opened my eyes and saw that it was already eight o’clock. I haven’t gotten up at that hour here at home in ages. But who am I to query the Lord’s wisdom eh? (smile) And the body does feel much better for the unexpected rest. All praise and glory be to Him!
And in this third week of Lent, on this bright and balmy Thursday morning– the sun is shining beautiful and bright outside and it’s not too cold – I want to remind us that this is a season of introspection, where we sit down with God and review our convictions, beliefs, behaviour, and all the other things associated with our lives, which help us to live obedient to God’s will.
This is a time for a spiritual spring-cleaning, where we get rid of all the junk that’s cluttering up our lives and making it difficult, if not impossible to walk sincerely and faithfully with Jesus Christ.
And to help us do that here is this interesting and inspirational quote, which I believe I’ve already shared some time before, but is most worthy of sharing again, from Dr. Orison Swett Marden (1850–1924), an American inspirational author who wrote on success in life and how to achieve it.
Dr. Marden wisely declares: ‘The hopeful man sees success where others see failure, sunshine where others see shadows and storm.’
And isn’t that the living truth, my people! Ofttimes we get lost and caught up in our problems and weaknesses, physical pain and illness, whereby we end up with a general feeling of malaise and disinterest in life. But we can’t allow that state of affairs to exist for long my people, especially if we are followers of Jesus Christ.
We need to get back as quickly as possible to the positive imagery outlined in Jesus’ philosophy and lifestyle. He said He came so that we could have life, and have it even more abundantly. ( John 10:10) And being down in the dumps for too long a period is surely not having life, much less abundantly.
So my brethren, it’s in our best interest to try and get the negative pictures out of our lives almost as soon as they appear, because they are only the wiles and lies of the enemy coming to try and steal our joy in Jesus Christ. We can’t work diligently and sincerely for Jesus if there’s no joy in our souls.
That’s where our Bit comes in. ‘For other foundation can no man lay that that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.’
And I want to apologize for saying that yesterday was the last day for the Bit. Lucifer must certainly have gotten in to my mind, for there is till stuff concerning it, to say today. And we’ll kick it off with Bruh Paul writing to the Ephesians about the unity of all believers.
‘For through him (Jesus) we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God; And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
In whom all the building fitly framed together (being joined together) groweth unto a holy temple in the Lord; In whom ye also are builded (being built) for a habitation (dwelling place) of God through the Spirit.’ (Eph. 2:18-22)
Oh Friends, that scripture is so convoluted, and could be so confusing, that I would be greatly amiss if I didn’t give you some of the fine explanations of the scholars.
‘2:19-20. Now therefore draws a conclusion from verses 14-18: Christian Gentiles are no longer alienated from God, but now enjoy the same intimate relationship with Him and the same spiritual blessings as do Christian Jews.
Three figures express this unity and equality existing between believing Jews and Gentiles. (1) A city: This figure comes the Greek city-state political concept whereby all inhabitants of a particular city-state were fellow citizens enjoying the same privileges.
(2) A family: Since Gentiles have been reconciled to God (v.16) and to His people (v.15), they are now members of the household of God, that is, children of the divine family.
(3) A building: Believing Jews and Gentiles are part of the same divine structure, the church. The church’s foundation is composed of the apostles and prophets, its chief corner stone is Christ, and its superstructure is composed of Christians.
Oriental architecture placed greater importance on the cornerstone than on the foundation, for it connected the walls and concentrated the weight of the building on itself, thus bonding and holding together the whole structure.’
‘2:21. Paraphrased, this verse would read, “By whom the whole building, being carefully and harmoniously joined together, rises into a holy temple for the Lord.” Fitly framed together is translated above as “being carefully and harmoniously joined together.” This implies the harmonious blending of the Jewish and Gentile believers in the church.’
‘2:22. Ye also in Greek, is emphatic. It stresses that Christian Gentiles, as well as their Jewish counterparts, are part of the church. Christians are viewed as a habitation or dwelling place in whom God lives through His Holy Spirit.’
Ah mih people, I know that is a lot of explanation, but I believe we all need it, possibly some more than others, and I do hope that it clarifies any problems we have with understanding the relevant scripture.
Consequently, we’ll end there today, so that we can have time to read, ponder and digest all the wonderful information we’ve shared today. For that’s the only way we can truly become avid and true followers of Jesus Christ.
So my fellow believers, until tomorrow, the Lord willing, may we all walk hand in hand with Him, safely, wisely, LOVINGLY, and at peace with ourselves and all mankind! Much LOVE!
…for the scripture saith…whosoever believeth on Him…shall not be ashamed (put to shame)… (Rom.10:11)
